Reviews of Wellington Underground Market
J.
Really enjoyed the feel of the place. The layout and the decorations gave it that extra bit of style that other markets sometimes lack. They can do better with their food selection (not a huge variety but quality good).
G.
An excellent market with some real hand made products from NZ. The food stands are excellent. Can recommend the Taiwanese food stand Spanish paella
B.
Interesting mix of art, food and clothing for sale. Normally open on Saturdays but this weekend includes Sunday.
D.
Good place for Art lovers, you can find wonderful photos, frames, 3D cards, accessories for women, lamp shades, jewellery old and artistic.
T.
Great gifty things, creative local business and quality goods. Worth a visit.
r.
It's a great weekend quick activity searching for food and bites. Loads of sellers but nothing caught my eye.
B.
A great place to visit on a good day in Wellungton
d.
Cute precious items to buy, mostly homemade and crafted by locals.
F.
Loved it! The goods were amazing, spent up large that we weren't intending to, because of the irresistible offerings. The only downside was the food. We had the "authentic paella" and only managed three mouthfuls before binning it. Had far better.
D.
Great on a rainy day. Could be a bit larger but overall really nice. Various food options.
Z.
Fantastic craft market full of interesting and wonderful stalls. One of my favourite places to explore on the weekends. Great to browse with a cup of coffee in hand and most of the vendors are super friendly and great to chat to. Highly recommend for a fun day out!
J.
Some wonderful handmade creative products for sale. I especially liked the wooden Christmas ornaments. Lots of people looking but not sure there was much buying going on. Hard to price items cheap enough to attract customers but high enough to make a profit.
J.
This wasn't quite what I was hoping for but the location and views are fantastic. But you don't go to this type of place for the view. So we had a coffee and I added carrot cake. Both were good but the coffee seemed lots smaller than ordered. Otherwise it was all kind of disappointing. But having said that I'm sure that there are lots of people who would enjoy the products on sale, which we're varied.
D.
Good range of crafts and unique gifts for when you are wanting something special you don't normally see in shops. This isn't always a cheap market although there always seem to be some specials at some stalls. Recommend a visit and a browse. Food available.
C.
Good market for clothes, household goods, jewellery. Some food stalls but could always do with more. Some of the stalls are quite expensive, as most are crafts its unlikely you'll find anything akin to an op shop bargain but the goods are great quality. Seating for food is really limited. When the wind whips through there on one of those choice Wellington days you'll feel it
L.
Lots of interesting stalls with art and crafts. Food choices were good. Now allow dogs and they ours attracted plenty of attention and pats.
W.
A kitsch place to visit. Craft stalls and local artists’ exhibits. Cheap and cheerful good options such as paella and dumplings. A fun place to have a look and pass some time and possibly pick up a good buy or two. Keeps you out of the wind too so that’s a bonus.
A.
So much great stuff (technical term that) but true!
N.
One of the best local artisan market in Wellington. Lot of great, amazing and unique stuffs available here. My favourite is wax melts and candle collections available. Great fragrances on a reasonable price. Enjoy shopping with some tasty local food!!
B.
I was just visiting New Zealand. The day I was in Wellington, I thought I go see the downtown. Then I ended up by the water front. then babysit at the museum and just walked around and suddenly actually surprisingly I ran into this underground market. it was rather interesting I thought because they had so many jewelry maybe pictures photo frames and all this local stuff and mostly they were handmade I think. They had a few food options I personally prefer more options. They had some Asian food than a Vietnamese restaurant and some seafood paella and hot dog stand. That was a coffee shop but it was closed. it wasn't even for and I don't know why everything closes so early in Wellington. I ended up getting the hot dog and some Vietnamese fried rice which we actually enjoyed eating.
F.
Just popped in here for kai with relatives. I noticed great craft work in the stalls. Beautiful products which I will come back to see. We had yummy Ethiopian food.😎
G.
Amazing place to discover. So many incredible stalls with great variety for all tastes. Wish had found it earlier as would have been able to buy direct from the craftsman and artist.
M.
Fantastic market that we always take our guests to as I believe in supporting local artisans. Always a great range of crafts & products and something to suit everyone's taste & budget. Food & drinks are available too
S.
Not amongst the best discoveries in Wellington, it is a mixed bag of handicraft some quick snack food stalls and random crafty items. The handmade gem sold by a local is highly recommended and so are the fancy tall a lamps
A.
Covered market so it's really convenient during winter and rainy days. Overall I found it not too interesting apart from a couple of stands. Like the 2 food trucks and few tables to eat at the back.
K.
Neat place to look around. Some of the things are expensive.
B.
Pretty good market, lots of crafty stalls but not many food stalls, paella looked nice though. There are chocolate / sweet stalls here. I did get a cool bone carving at cheap price - also ate dumplings but thought they were a little average & overpriced & not cooked fresh when ordered. The warm Chilean pumpkin bread was nice though. Pretty good market for gifts or interesting knick knacks you can't get other places like the miniatures in tiny bottles - they had all sorts from toys to tiny magazines or food packets etc - hand made pop up cards were also really cool & great range. For food try the Sunday market by Chaffers St / wharf instead as range there is much better.
S.
Decent sized market, lots of craft and food stalls. Whilst a high number of stalls do accept Card Payments, highly recommend you bring cash as that's obviously accepted by everyone.
M.
This was pretty awesome. Something for everyone. And some lovely nude photos our kids could see as we walked through. Seriously? Come on people! Other than that I would recommend a visit.
P.
A lovely eclectic mix of crafts, fashion, etc, etc. All in a snug 'underground' venue. Nice food & drink available as well. Well situated on the Wellington water front.
H.
A great place to go to get out of the rain or the sun. I had a lovely lunch there of paella. Many vendors selling a multitude of crafts and other goods.
S.
I enjoy the Underground Market but it was half the size from when I visited during WOW weekend a few years ago. Lots of great offerings. Definitely worth a visit.
p.
Pleasant market showcasing local artists and some clothing and food stalls. I got some socks here at good price. V quiet when i visited - definitely a good place to stop by in the cbd on the weekend.
J.
Lots of interesting and unique Kiwi inspired items. Loved the threepence coin earrings and exposed watch mechanism pendant I bought there.
k.
Bought some lovely love things the market caters for a broad range of products and tastes
Final market for 2020 is 14 March so try and make it if you have the time.
J.
Good fun, I had a lovely paella
R.
Pretty small market. A lot of very similar shops. Worth going in if you're passing but wouldn't go out of your way to stop here. A few good food options as well and several tables to sit at.
D.
Lovely market. I happened to see when and where it was, although not listed in tourist info I had. I enjoyed strolling around the stalls, a mix of art/craft and food.
H.
Pretty fun. It can get crowded in the afternoon especially on fine days. Some food stores selling pizza, sausages, brownies, dumplings on the other end.
C.
Great place to find that gift that's a bit different. As described by the name, it's under cover so you can even shop on a rainy weekend. There's food here too.
J.
Fantastic space! Great variety of products on offer and not all '$2 dollar shop' like so many other markets.
One of the highlights from our weekend in Wellington.
P.
Awesome market, great food and stalls. Variety and quality. Great for gifts and special buys. Def worth a visit when in the capital!!
G.
Almost walked past and missed it. Glad I went in.Lots of good quality goods.Food,clothing,creams,souvenirs.I had a very nice hour there. Would go again.
J.
The only part left of Wellington's team system. Currently has two new cars that operate as a counterbalance to each other. They travel up a steep hill from Lambton Quay. A museum on top provides a history of the system including to of the older cars refurbished. Views at the top of the city and harbour are spectacular on sunny days. It's a good way to spend part of an afternoon.
M.
A beautiful hidden place full of food and great things! I really liked it. Not too busy either. A variety of stalls from all over.
M.
Brilliant place to find kiwiana have some nice gourmet food, baby clothing, socks, essential oils, greenstone jewellery, unique paintings and much more. Totally loved it.
V.
Good place to spend time on Saturday.
T.
Lots of stalls, friendly atmosphere. Has a little food court area. Sells alsorts of arts and crafts
C.
Fantastic market, great central location and being in underground carpark is safe from weather. Well with checking out for local goods on Saturdays. During sept/Oct while WOW is on is open both sat& sun.
L.
An extensive market in the carpark - not much hot food, but lots of crafty things and specialty food. It's just a pity it's only open for a few hours on Saturday though.
D.
Loved it. Such a small little craft market within a parking area. Absolutely must do!!!
L.
What an amazing place, so many stalls, something for everyone. Many more stalls since the last time I visited. If you like shopping this place is a must visit.
J.
Love The vietnamese food stall. Really yummy. Great stalls many different varieties. Something for everyone
M.
Great place for one of a kind hand made items. Perfect place to find a special gift for someone.
N.
I used to go there every sunday during my stay in Wellington to visit a friend.
It is next to the harbour and a nice place to stop by during a walk.
A.
Meh. Consumerism of a somewhat different sort, not my cup of tea, really... I personally find the venue rather drab, even with all the stalls and tables. Quite crowded, too.
K.
Check out the performing poet who will write a poem for you on the spot on her trusty type writer for $10. She was awesome.
M.
Great variety of stalls and a choice of food and good coffee is also available.A good seating area is also provided under cover.
M.
Brilliant markets with lots of stylish and unique gifts and knick knacks. Delicious snacks thrown in plus a unique Wellington vibe 👌🏼

K.

A great place to find something a bit different.
A.
Great market, will be relocating at some point, so visit while you can.
R.
Wish we came before our xmas shopping. Could have sorted half of them in one go. Cheap and good honey
Q.
Great atmosphere but not a ton of selection, and half of the products seemed commercial
A.
Super artsy little market in a beautiful part of town. It's not that big but there are definitely some worthy finds to be had. It's also sheltered from the wind.
J.

(Translated) A perfect little place to fill your suitcase with New Zealand souvenirs. This small underground craft market will allow you to acquire for sometimes very good prices jewelry in paua or greenstone, sweaters, but also less cliché items such as essential oils or leather articles ...
