It's the seat of the Kingitanga - NZ Maori royalty although they don't really live in the palace but it's ok for Maori and pakeha alike to see the coronation and Regatta.

The Kingitaanga Anniversary was the most enjoyable experience ever. The way it was set up, no problems, the marae was spotless, the entertainment was awesome, the Wakas salute was beautiful, the haangi was delicious.I must say...Kia Ora King Tuheitia, thankyou and all whanau who made it helped to making that day such an amazing experience for everyone.

My local marae. Has been improving over many years. Has been visited in my lifetime by Nelson Mandela, Princess Anne, Prince Charles, The pacific Island ariki or Royal bloodline & it continues to host very important people from different nations. Built by Te Puea Herangi & her Te Pou O Mangatawhiri band. Has an awesome story behind its foundations.
I.
Great people and always have a laugh. Sometimes even a feed.

Visited TuuRangawaewae For 160 year's of KINGITANGA In Aotearoa. These are significant times for myself and many other Màori born into my generations and those of my remaining Tuàkana, Tàina and Tungane of which I have Seven. We were all Orphaned from February 21 2014.
The Coronation of our Màori King, Kingi Tuheitia was a ceremonial occasion. I attended the celebrations with three other colleague's, it was my first for over Forty year's, and the first time in attendance in the capacity of KUIA. The preliminaries took a good portion of our day.
We arrived at 9:30 am, the weather was atrocious and during the long morning we experienced a deluge and intermittent showers. After the speech making, accompanying songs and a special word from our Màori King we were all invited to partake of a feast at the "Kings Table." A lavish affair with each one of the guests at the HUI. A Kapa Haka Roopu attached to the Marae, Surrounding Kura, and Haukainga Tangata WWhenua entertained us as we waited for the guests to take their places and especially for the arrival of Kingi Tuheitia and his Euntorage of dignitaries to be seated.
The faire was sumptuous and the Kapa Haka Roopu turned into waiters and waitresses.
A most prestigious event and inspite of lengthy politics of the morning is set among my most memorable experiences of a lifetime.

A Native place of gathering for special events & occasions. The home of the Maori King. A place of historical importance to all NZers.
