Steve is lovely and makes you feel like part of the family. His mechanic is also fast and efficient with both of them going above and beyond. I was quoted $300 and $500 for my service with two other mechanics but doing this with Steve I ended up paying $250. Thanks guys :)

It's safe to say we would have not finished our trip in New Zealand without Steve's hard work and dedication to getting us back on the road. He is the nicest mechanic we've ever met in our life and explained every little thing he did when repairing our van. We had a mysterious issue with our engine which stumped 3 other garages, but Steve saw it through, even when it looked to be unsolvable. He has an incredible experience of everything mechanical and taught us a lot about carburetors over the weeks. He's an extremely honest man and treats backpackers like fellow Kiwis. Steve made us feel incredibly welcome and would recommend him to anybody.

Above awesome service by Steve! Couldn’t fix an electrical problem with my Peugeot but was very helpful in directing where to go and didn’t charge for the diagnostic! Awesome that he made time to look at the car even though they were quite busy! Very knowledgeable and reassuring and being a girl it’s very hard to find a mechanic that’s doesn’t rip you off! Even went the extra mile to fix the keys 😊 highly recommended!

Fantastic service! Booked in a car for a pre-purchase inspection and had a thorough report come back that was very competitively priced (better than the local franchises). My entire interaction was via the phone, as I had the dealer drop the car off and collect it at the end, and I cannot fault the friendliness and warmth of the experience. They kept the report confidential and did not share it with the dealer and responded with patience to all of my questions. I would use Steve Welford again and would recommend them over the local franchises who have surprisingly poor reviews. Great job Steve and team :)

If you need a mechanic for anything in Christchurch, come to Steve. By far the best mechanic we've ever used, and it's no exaggeration to say he saved our trip around New Zealand. It's hard enough to find an honest mechanic at the best of times - but knowing the propensity of some mechanics to take advantage of backpackers, we were especially nervous. We'd been having some pretty significant issues that a couple of other mechanics had looked at and not been able to solve (though they were happy to charge us a fortune regardless!) and were starting to think that we'd have to scrap our van. Thank god we found Steve! Where others took a quick look and gave up, Steve spent an obscene amount of time working through every possible option for us to get us back on the road. And on top of all that, Steve and the team are just really nice guys. You couldn't find a more honest and dedicated mechanic if you tried - our only regret is that we can't continue to come back to him now we've left NZ!

We have been by steve because of our disc rotors of the front brakes. He have done the work pretty well. Now we have no problems and the service was great. But the price was to high. Because we had a other offer from a other workshop and there we would have pay for the same work, but plus new brake pads 270 $ And by steve we paid much more just for the machine surface. We are disappointed because we decided to come to steve to support a familiy buisness.

I highly recommend this car garage. Steve is so experienced and kind. My car has been noisy for 6 months and he solved it in one minute and told me "no charge", at the same time he found another hidden problem. I will definitely go to this place for my car in future. :)

THE BEST! Experienced, fast, friendly, and honest! You know how horrible it is to go to a bad mechanic? Imagine the relief of finding a shop that's the exact opposite of every bad experience you've ever had with a car. Why am I so happy? Because Steve, in addition to being a great guy, just saved me hundreds of dollars AGAIN! Seriously, giving your business to anyone else is a mistake. See all the other five star reviews? Steve Welford Automotive really is that good!

Arranged a pre-purchase inspection through Steve Welford Automotive and they inspected and test drove the vehicle for a good price. I felt we got good value and of all the mechanics I have come across, I felt we could trust really trust them. The car has just been delivered (we purchased remotely) and all seems great so far.

Steve is a really reliable and friendly person. We wanted to get a new WoF for our campervan an he did all the work on the next day. After we had some problems with the breaks which he adjusted before Steve refunded us all the money. I came there twice. The first time, I did not know a place for wof so it was on Google. Then, from reckless driving l, my car got a bit trouble so I went to the shop near my house. They promised me to get it done in a day. I arranged meeting at a friend place 2 days after and hoped I would have the car to go. Sadly, I had to cancel the meeting because they made it late for my car. I got so many call from them about the cost and stuff. So, this time, I had to walk nearly 40 minutes to the place to pick up my car but it worth it. They got the car done on time. I am not really an expert in the car stuff so I just trust whatever they said. I think they told me the right thing. My car runs well, that is all I care.
