Reviews of Bohemian Bakery Cafe

Bohemian Bakery Cafe, St Asaph Street
For some time now, I have enjoyed and liked the almond croissant of Bohemian Bakery. But recently, I had brunch here on a Saturday morning, which was my first experience of dining in here.
The very first item on the brunch menu - shakshouka - caught my attention. But I requested for fried eggs instead of poached eggs, which the chef readily agreed to.
The service was prompt. We were seated upstairs which was nice. The place was full with diners as well as those who came to buy the cabinet food items.
The food was delicious and the hot beverages were good too. The ambience is nice and welcoming.
I will be happy to visit again as well as recommend this place to anyone.

Highly Recommend place to go! If you want to have some fresh pastry products or other bread products with a cup of coffee just come here early in the morning! I had a soup of day with extra bread, it was really nice, staffs were very friendly and kind with smiling face. As far as remember, there are 6 tables are available. I didn't try all of menus but I can tell most of menus are really reasonable price.

This bakery smells so good. My grilled croque monsieur was delicious. Melty Gruyère cheese and ham snuggly held by two thick crispy-edged slices of dense dark seeded sourdough. The side of 2 poached eggs was a bit steep at $6, but such is Covid prices I guess. The seating area upstairs is warm and green with an interesting outlook on the action happening on the bakery floor.

Their soup of the day was amazing!
I was told that their cinnamon rolls are the best but the first time I went there and asked about it the staff said: "are u seeing any cinnamon roll? So, we don’t have it". I definitely didn’t check before I asked, but wasn’t expecting this kind of answer.
I really thought to not return there after this but I gave another chance returning early in the morning and still no luck and I’m afraid of asking when is the best time to return or if there is a day that they have it and the staff be blunt again.
Anyway… as I said, good soup but not the best attendance.
A.
Such a cool place! Europe meets Christchurch rebuild! Was here on a Saturday morning (straight from the plane) and try had live music playing, delicious Avocado Toast and a seat with a view of the kitchen. Will try the pretzels 🥨 next time!
C.
The Riverside Markets are full of wonderful eateries and artisans. Like a modern version of Melbournes markets. A must if visiting Christchurch. Loved the array of bread and pastries to chose from at Bohemian. One of those places to go back to again and again.
C.
Great cosy coffee shop and bakery.
Flat white has a great taste and the almond croissants is awesome.
They’re playing cosy life music it’s super relaxing tho.
Staff is super friendly and helpful. Highly recommended place
D.
Best croissants in Christchurch. Baked fresh every morning. Open early worth the drive on just to buy them. Fresh
J.
Love love love the beautiful bread and stunning pastries, my brothers beef cheek pie was the bomb, my croissant was fresh and beautifully filled, staff are so lovely, would go back in a heartbeat!!!
P.
You need to find this place! A European style bakery with everything made on the premises. Croissant, Pain Au Chocolate, and Danish pastries. Throw in fresh baked bread and you have a winner. Coffee by C4 Coffee Co. Served in bijou cups and unexpected. Very friendly staff. I sense a passion in the business.
B.
Nice bakery with good coffee! The almond croissants 🥐 are also very delicious!
J.
All the baking they have are above average. Very good croissant and other goods, but customer service wasn't that nice as their baking.
B.
Very good service and good but can be very busy on Saturday morning so if you’re eating in grab a table first before ordering.
K.
Lots of Vegan options. Aroma of fresh bread feels soo good. Lots of varieties to try.
V.
Absolutely amazing french(?) pastry. Definitely recommend!
G.
Best croissant I’ve had so far in New Zealand! The sourdough toast was also amazing. Everything is freshly made daily - you can see the bakers in action in the open kitchen (we were told that they start preparing every day at 1am!) Couldn’t resist a second order and the cinnamon roll was absolutely delicious. We went on a Saturday morning and there was live music which made the whole experience even more delightful.
G.
Food was nice, as usual but staff we’re very rude. Didn’t see one smile, just grumpy faces. Won’t rush back, lots of places in Christchurch with staff who welcome my business with a smile.
We have been back to Bohemian Bakery numerous times since my review. Totally different place, food as always is fantastic but the service now equals the food. Go to any of their stores.. you will love it!!
N.
Love, love this bakery, one of the best pastries in Christchurch! Their catering service is also amazing. If they would have better coffee definitely they wouldn't have much competition. Anyway will be there again and again!
A.
Delicious and love that there are vegan options would love to see more and some gluten free options too!
C.
Best ever artisan baguette. But only available 3 days a week. Excellent cafe
All round top Christchurch cafe
G.
Great coffee and range of vegan baked pastries and pies. Get in early!
P.
The name says it all. Enjoyed the pastel de nata - first since Portugal.
T.
They have vegan pastry options which is great for my partner because I love the blueberry custard tart and feel bad when she can’t have something yummy too! 😊
C.
Absolutely incredible little bakery and cafe. I have been a regular customer at their original Sumner location for many years now - making the trek out to Sumner regularly to get their bread and other baked goods. They are easily the best bakery in Christchurch; everything is done by hand, the correct way. Their sourdough loaves are to die for and their pies are insane! No trip is complete without a danish or croissant.
The selection of vegan options is a real treat. The vegan pies, croissants and danishes are all excellent.
Their new location is lovely, with a nice mezzanine with seating that overlooks the kitchen. Tastefully decorated and it is a relaxing atmosphere.
Highly recommend checking this place out, you won’t regret it.
m.
Passed by today and called in by chance. Bought a Ciabatta to have at home. Mind blown! Having gotten used to mediocre supermarket offerings, this was just heaven. Good crust, irregular bubbles in the dough, nice and chewy, great taste - magnificent!
L.
perfect croissant!love the atmosphere here!
L.
Beautiful place, delicious pastries, friendly staff so many reasons to visit Bohemian Bakery. Special mention for Yvetta. She is smiling, nice and helpful. I really enjoy time spent inside this bakery. I will be back for sure !
J.
Loved their coffee and Croissant(served warm)which was crispy from outside and soft inside, one of the best croissant I ever had. Also, staff was amiable too.
N.
Want proper, delicious sourdough bread as if you were in Czech Republic or Germany? Bohemian Bakery should be your number one destination in Christchurch. The Cafe itself is lovely too and staff is very friendly and welcoming.
T.
A must have whenever you’re in quake city
K.
I stumbled upon this place and was so pleasantly surprised! The sourdough is amazing (and not just fancy whitebread) and the cappuccino reminded me of Europe. The staff people were so lovely to chat with and had great recommendations. Would highly reccomend stopping in for breakfast or a sweet treat.
H.
Most gorgeous bread and pastries. Really lovely small brunch menu, I recommend the Eggs Benedict. The St Asaph location is such a nice spot to pop in for a lazy morning coffee and pastry. Delightful friendly service as well!
K.
Delicious food, friendly staff, a nice ambiance and a great central location. What’s not to like? I want to go back to try more delicious baked goods (but the waistband of my pants is telling me to tread with caution). Try them for a coffee and snack stop, or brunch, or lunch, or afternoon tea.
B.
Simply awesome. Great people serving great food. 6 stars if I could. Update: came back with my 12yo son. His quote "These guys need to chill out, the food is TOO good, it's dangerous"
Z.
Wonderful place all around. Super kind, caring and attentive staff and some of the best baked goods I’ve had anywhere in the world. It’s easy to see why they have such a great reputation in Christchurch and beyond. Highly, highly recommend.
M.
Awesome. The pain au chocolat is perfect 👏🏼👍🏼
f.
Outstanding food options, something for everyone. Great Pastry and bread 🍞 items ~ get in early. Having said that, the staff are friendly and kind and will make you a fresh filled crossiant if none left. Worth a trip to town for this particular café 😊
I.
Savoury Danish is the best! Also the French Hot Choc is something to die for.
K.

A.
Eating my food As we speak and I had to come straight here to rave about it. Food is incredible at standard Cafe prices. If you haven't tried this place yet... change that.
C.
It's a nice bakery inside riverside market. We had
a vegetarian crossiant, a pizza, and a banana walnut cake here for breakfast on two consecutive days. Everything tasted delicious. Highly recommended if you visit riverside market.
W.
This place is absolutely delightful. Awesome pastry and coffee with extraordinary service. Simply the best bakery in the town... Recommend CINNAMON BUN, it`s absolutely mesmerizing.

B.
I’ve been in before for bread but stayed for breakfast today and it was delicious! I shared the gorgeous french toast and the salmon tartine with my partner and we both thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Great and friendly service as well. Thanks!
L.
coffees are great but takes awhile ,$16.80 for a coffee and slice of Banana & walnut loaf was a bit expensive
C.

Loved the pannini and also pain au raisin! Good coffee and lovely space as well.
A.
I was very impressed with the range of baked goods in here. And the quality is amazing! Everything I tried was delicious. I particularly like the mezzanine floor up above where you can look down at the shop area or the kitchen area. There's nice wooden fixtures inside, and plenty of parking outside in the SALT District carpark. The staff are friendly and helpful. This is a must try if you are down in the SALT District. Also located in Riverside Market
Z.
I absolutely love their filled pretzel bread rolls. The sweet treats look pretty tempting, but I try to keep it healthy.
D.
Bloody delicious! Had a sausage roll, a pretzel, Portuguese custard tart, choc brioche and cinnamon roll. With homemade lemonade and a coffee.
Everything on point, cant fault it whatsoever. Come and have a try

The best bakery I've ever visited. I always look for a good european bread on my travels to remind me home and I found best sourdough. 5 grain sourdough is divine.
Huge selection of european pastries, (the best almond croissants!!!), but also amazing NZ pies. Absolutely recommended. For brunch, you need to try avo on toast.

Let's go!!!!!!
A.
Best vegan baked goods in NZ. Great pies and croissants 🥐
A.
Most probably best vegan croissants in the world! Nut & seed loaf is something you wouldn't believe even exist - I still can't understand how they are able to make it so tasteful and so inexpensive . Bought it few times - never been able to take it home - just disappeared on the way ... I've been told they are using spray free flour and that makes they bread so special - my colleague is gluten intolerant but still can eat their bread. Or is it because of sourdough? Don't remember for sure, but definitely the best bakery - cafeteria in Christchurch. Did I mention 4 different plant based milks they are offering for the coffee lovers? No doubt will return again and again. Thank you guys, you are amazing!
N.

(Translated) Foreign atmosphere. It was Saturday, so I was playing live. Everything was good, but customer service was unkind.
(Original)
외국 분위기 물씬 남. 토요일이라서 라이브 연주도 하고 있었음. 모든 것이 좋았지만 고객응대가 불친절했음.. ㅎ
