Reviews of The French Baker
a.
Best coffee in town. Pastries light and fresh fruits. Bread reminds me of Paris. Salmon on bagel was enough for two. Fast service.
T.
10/10 great spot, awesome customer service and the of course the food is delicious!

t.

D.
Even though he looks like he has just got out of the shower, Rusty bags my bagettes with an efficiency and somber panache that leaves me breathless.
The coffee is hot and usually quick, and smells and tastes like coffee should. Try the lemon tart.
J.
Stopped here for a coffee and lunch - the most delicious pies, pastries, cake and coffee!
J.
Fantastic food and coffee. A perfect stop when on the road or for the lucky locals who live nearby. 🙂
M.
It is a great local cafe, with nice staff and lots to choose from, in the French style
J.
Fast efficient service. Vaccine Pass was checked. Delicious danish but the coffee was burnt.
s.
Brilliant the cafe to go to in Greytown, its an institution great food, and easy place to feel at home and meet friendly people
S.
Great food, efficient service. Love a place that serves double shot coffee by default
B.
Great food. Your barrister is amazing. Always have an awesome coffee
P.
Nice coffee and bread, well worth a visit
J.
Always love stopping in here for some good Allpress coffee and something sweet and delicious. Great jam brioche or almond croissants but you've got to be in quick to get one before the sell out. Service is relatively friendly and there are a few seats if you want to eat in. They also have various styles of bread by the loaf & excellent savoury items. Très bien.
D.
Coffee was great but the pastries didn’t look too fresh! air con inside during the summer !
M.
Good for quick bite, quick lunch sandwiches
service is fast and good
S.
Pastries and tarts to die for. Nice coffee too!
G.
Great baked goods, but had to wait for coffee and they'd got my order wrong. Said they'd remake it, no apology, but I declined as I would have had to wait again. A pity - thought this place would have been better as very popular.
N.
Sometimes special. I love the french fruit pastries.
g.
Excellent brioche and the best croissant in the Wellington area.
J.
Bread was lovely and they made me toast despite saying the regular menu was not available. Coffee was excellent (my friend had 2) and tea very good
B.
This place is great. I had a smoked chicken cos cos, a sticky pastry thing and coffee to go. Loved the lot. Excellent service, polite, caring and efficient. Generous serve.
Place had a busy foodie hum to it, but plenty of spare places.
Highly recomended, a not that pricey but not that cheap, the quality is worth it.
Great place to treat yourself.
L.
My son love this place! My son calls him. (Mr French Baker) We see you around alot lol! Always happy and friendly!
Great food! Amazing coffee! Good vibes!
Consistent! Perfect place for lunch xx
P.
Excellent brioche and tart! Coffee was good, but I found the blend a little sweet for my liking.
Will be back though!
F.
Gets pretty close to genuine French bread!
T.
The ham and cheese croissants are my favorite, great place except for some annoying children. They were my children though, so that's on me.
C.
In just before closing on a hot day so packing up seating outside where we would have preferred to sit. Could see an air con unit that should have made things cool - but was hot and stuffy. Great pot of tea though and last donut was still fresh and tasty. Will still be back.
S.
The French Baker is an iconic treasure of the South Wairarapa. Everything is excellent including the baking, coffee, service and cute seating area. A must stop on your way through Greytown and a local favorite.
E.
Good bread patisserie and coffee. Though I don't like blue cheese myself my friend says their blue cheese and walnut roll is excellent.
J.
Beautiful coffee and great service
J.
Not much choice during weekdays.
S.
Good bread is hard to find. Good French bread is even harder, unless you are in the South Wairarapa. Delicious French style breads and an assortment of cakes & pastries make this an essential stop if you find yourself in the area. The soup of the day is always a treat at lunchtime, or maybe the bacon buttie is more your style. And the coffee is really good as well, served by the friendly staff. Whether a local or passing through it is a place to stop.
D.
The French Baker is my go to whenever I visit Greytown. Good coffee & classic french pastry & baguette.
K.
Nice welcoming place, good food, petite portions of good quality, good coffee for not in the city...
G.
Great selection of cabinet food for a light snack, or a blackboard menu for something more substantial. Very friendly staff and a bright relaxing vibe make for a very worthwhile stop if passing through Greytown.
A.
Best place for coffee especially if you’re an All Press fan. Delish pastries , and food.
T.
The best coffee in Greytown. The staff is always friendly. Food is always ready when then open. Their croissants are delicious and their meat pies are the only ones I'll eat now.
M.
Really sound coffee. I ordered a soy flat white which was spot on. Can't go wrong with Allpress Espresso! The croissants were also banging.
C.
Great little coffee shop, curry veg pie is top shelf.
J.
People love this place. But the (savoury) cabinet food is expensive and so-so quality, and my table wasn't wiped. Last time I had a poorly made sandwich, and this time I had an okay (but small) quiche. Probably will stop somewhere else in Greytown next time, or stick with the pastries.
R.
Our regular coffee and food stop in Greytown. Good range of cabinet food and excellent bakery goods. Highlights include palmiers and yummy quiches. Would like to see a vegetarian roll option without blue cheese.
K.
Friends and I had just finished a tramp and desperately wanted a coffee. We called and they left the coffee machine running for us although they were about to close Perfect service, and the best danish’s ever
M.
Tasty fresh baked all sorts of food! Nice coffee, fast service and lovely staff. 😍😍.. thanks for sharing such a great vibes with all the guests 😊😊
M.
Friendly staff, yummy food with good choices, very clean and cosy environment
t.
fantastic bread and. coffee that is strong and full bodied. great array of pastries and lunch dishes as well. service from the staff sets the standard
A.
The first place I stop for coffee when driving over from Wellington. Rusty has a finely oiled machine in the French Bakery. A++
G.
Have been here a few times. Sadly todays coffee was not good. The pastries were reasonable with the bacon and egg quiche being excellent.
F.
To pricy, not value for money. Coffee was average. Lots of turists are passing there and they need to step up. About year ago I was more impressed to come back but not anymore.
L.
Average service, not rude but not friendly. Coffee nice but too much froth so only ended up with half a cup. Nice brioche and eclair.
D.
Very good lunch options, I had a quiche and a bread roll, and a tarte with pears and almonds for dessert. Everything was very good and tasted as would taste in France.
A.
Coffee is good and the lemon tarts are so good. It is a must go to place when ever I am in New Zealand.
B.
Lovely French Bread. You may think it is a little pricey but you do have to pay to get good French bread. A little cramped in side and obviously has a good reputation.
A.
Great baked goods (pain au chocolat, almond croissant), OK coffee, friendly service. Just what you need after a decent bush walk. :-)
B.
Total jealousy when our friend Liz gets her name printed in her coffee. Great food and coffee as always. Well done
M.
Everything looks very nice but be selective about what you buy...I have found many don't taste that great and you will be disappointed if you think they will taste the same as you may have eaten in France!
S.
great choice of excellent food and good coffee to accompany it....
M.
Very nice Bakery, loved the Palmier and array of French breads
d.
Yummy yummiest pastries!
M.
The staff at French Baker will make you feel like a local even if it's your very first visit to Greytown and they'll know your name by your second visit ;) Great team, great pastries and great coffee.
j.
Friendly staff, good coffee and a nice hot croissant.
H.
Great coffee, but please don’t microwave your croissants - a minute in the oven would be perfect!
s.
Superb croissants and coffee with cheerful, friendly staff.
E.
Good pain au chocolate and Danish pastry. Great coffee.
c.
Awesome coffee and pastries. Multiple choices to go for. Go early in the day to try yummy pastries
C.
Excellent pastries, great coffee, and they often have a soup of the day which is a great winter warmer.
T.
Great position. Prompt, friendly service. Very good food. Fair prices. Poor selection for restricted diets.
E.
Delicious coffee and food every time we stop by. Friendly service and good atmosphere. A must stop place when in Greytown.
L.

d.

O.

K.
Great food and coffee
C.
Selection of breads, sweet treats and some sandwiches. Bit expensive. Hard to get parking nearby
J.
The pastries from here are excellent. The coffee has been of variable quality, most times OK, but one time just undrinkable.
R.
Roll I had almost broke my teeth and the filling was sparse. Coffee was over extracted making it quite bitter
L.
