Great pies; Crispy pastry and good flavour of fillings. They are a bit smaller than other pies but perfect for my appetite.
-.
Everything was amazing! The pie was amazing and reminded me of the mince pies my mum made when I was young. Savory scroll some of the softest bread and best sauce. Cinnamon scroll, Caramel doughnut were beautiful and the guy serving was really lovely. 100% deserves the reviews

We stopped here for a break on our drive and got a coffee and several cakes and a pie. The coffee was fabulous and the cakes and scone huge. One very happy hubby with a huge piece of coffee cake as well. Everyone who turned up were so friendly as well. It’s a must stop.
M.
Wonderful food! Very friendly owner and not rushing us :) Yummy steak and mushroom pie was perfect, lots of steak and not salty! Great Beef Chili pie also, very fulling. Had a nice large and tasty ginger slice and cinnamon bun as well.So glad you were open when we arrived in Murchison and we will certainly return - thank you! Highly recommended to stop and have something to eat and a coffee!
C.
Gotta be up there as the best pies I’ve had. Had the lentil pie and it was so good I went back and got another one, the leek and potato. Both so Damm good.
S.
Great stop for that quick meal when passing through.
Person behind the counter is the core of Tutaki.
Ask about how a celebrated Auckland foody made his way to the Tasman district.
Try the crunchy crusts of his home made pies.
Loved the Pototi and Leak and you'll have to try the Steak and Mushroom with good sized steak pieces which weren't dry! Having a lower amount of gravy may get you wondering why? But if your meat held its moisture you wouldn't need more.
Will pop back for more next time.
M.
Fantastic pies!! Must visit. Come early before he sells out!! My son says steak and cheese pie was best he’s had! I had the vegetarian one which was very good.
P.
Great coffee, snacks, pies and fresh bread (if you're in quick enough). All produced and served from a little caravan in front of the museum. You've got to be early for the breads - he'd sold out by 10am on the Sunday morning we were in Murchison.
T.
Stoked to discover this little gem on my journey back to Christchurch. Best food I've had in Murchison, great pies and great coffee!
E.
Pit stop on our way to Hanmer Springs - gem of a find food truck. Best steak and mushroom pie I’ve had in NZ. We enjoyed the white choc caramel slice as well - good pairing with a coffee. Friendly service and quality food. 5/5
a.
Excellent pies and very friendly owner. Highly recommend their coffees and vege pies. Yummy!
S.
Best pies in the South. Delicious, daily made, sour cream short crust pastry filled with classic and creative fillings - perfect for driving + eating.
J.
This is not a bakery, it is a magical comfort food emporium & its chief satisfaction scientist is a genius. What a gem, if only I lived closer - will make pilgrimage to this gastronomic mecca again.
Thank You Tutaki Bakery, outstanding!!
C.
Had a delicious venison and mixed veg pie from here while passing through the town. Good flavours and nice pastry, if you want a pie then Tutaki is where to get it.
C.
Loved this. Enthusiastic owner, great produce, sensibly priced, speedy service with a smile. Lunch, (swiss cheese, hummus and salad roll) dinner (bean and cheese pie / chicken, bacon & sweetcorn pie) and breakfast (homemade bread) in that order, enjoyed from here (we added our own salad to pies for dinner).
아.
It was really good! Especially the spicy cashew was VERRY good and also the Bacon and egg was perfect for lunch! I wish I could taste ot again... 5 pies was not enough for 7 people!
M.
Great selection the fresh baked bread is seriously good
M.
Great little bakery, lots of steak in pie. Cinnamon roll was really good!
P.
Well, after ‘inhaling’ a venison ‘Hunters’ pie, it was so good I returned for some cold ones to take away for dinner the following day. Tried the apple and salted caramel mini loaf which was also very tasty. Many thanks for the culinary excellence. Definitely recommended if your round this way. Awesome, Cheers.
J.
Tasty pies and beautiful crusty bread, all served with a smile and friendly chat. The coffee served in a takeaway cup is very good. Prices are reasonable and good value. All the wonderful fare is served from a small caravan situated just off the main road in Murchison, in the side street, by the hotel. It is a very welcome break for travellers, and has clean public conveniences across the road. Interesting shops close by. A real pleasure to stop by there and talk to the owner/baker who can you about all product that he sells with pride and genuine interest. Well worth your while.
J.
Amazing pies, lots of variety and great pastry
A.
Very friendly with great pies. Beef hash maybe the best in NZ
M.
We had the mince and cheese pie and the leek and potato pie. FOR BREAKFAST :) Totally delicious food. The bread was awesome too. Great little bakery. Only wish you were in Hamilton!
K.
What a surprise to find this bakery in Murchison. We fell upon it while having a look around the town. 2 yum pies and a donut each for lunch and we were 2 happy chappies. Well done Tutaki Bakery. It is wee gems like you that make the small towns so special 🥰😋
M.
Stunning little bakery. So qute. Delicious food
M.
Yummie. If you happen to drive through Murchison, you should definitely stop here to buy some bread and eat some pies. We tried three different veggie pies and they were all amazing. So were the sweet slice for dessert. We took a bread for our next breakfast and it was the best bread we had so far in New Zealand.
E.
Yep, excellent pies the pastry is unique with a tangy almost sourdough like edge to it.
D.
Great pies - both meat and veg with more focus on the meat/veg than gravy. Owner is also dead nice and very chatty!
Cakes also looked good although I didn’t try them.
N.
Best pies and NZ donuts we’ve ever had! You can taste the high quality of the ingredients and the expertise of the bakery’s owner! What a friendly guy as well. Make sure to stop by. :)
L.
We stumbled across this little gem by accident on a rainy day when we needed some warm comfort food. I would highly recommend this place if you are in the area. We tried steak and cheese pie and creamy chicken bacon mushroom and sweet corn pie. yummmm. I wish we bought some more pies for later as these were the best pies we tried in New Zealand. Delicious home made pastry and fresh ingredients, full of flavour and only $6. Seriously tasty!! If you are in the area and even if you are not hungry, buy some pies for later. I regretted not buying some for dinner later today
R.
Nice location. Amazing coffee. And the guy that owns it is super friendly!
J.
The best potato and leek pie I have ever had in my 60+ years - I wish I had purchased every pie in the shop while passing through Murchison NZ. Great pastry, great filling - make sure you find the van selling these - not to be missed.
T.
Amongst the ten or so different types of pie flavours they offer, we had the Cashew & Veg and Moroccan Spice, and we also had a scroll bun. Both pies were very flavorful and had lots of spice, which we loved. The scroll was tasty as well. The gentlemen behind the counter seemed very passionate about the products. Too bad this place doesn't exist where I live because I'd love to try out all of their pies. I'll definitely stop by again next time I'm passing through Murchison.
T.
Just had a steak and cheese pie from here, SO GOOD!! Proper handmade pasty, delicious meat and real cheese. 1000% recommend!!
D.
My partner and I each had a pie here back in April. I still think about it from time to time. I recommend it to anyone who's heading to NZ. Even if they're heading only to Auckland. Consider ducking down to Murchison.
We bought a loaf of sourdough as well. I recommend pairing this with some of the cured meats from the butcher next to Tutaki and some roadside free-range eggs. As these pies show, there's no substitute for superb ingredients.
R.
Fantastic pies. We started with two to share between two, and they were so good we had to go for one more. Great vege options. Full and happy tummies.
S.
I shouldn't say this because everyone will buy all the pies and I'll miss out, but hands down they are the best pies in NZ and Perhaps the world!!!! And the bread is so good it only lasts maximum of an hour in our house.
S.
Best pies ever. Excellent jam doughnuts too.
L.
A must if you are In the area! Infact even if you're not, make the effort to come here. Fantastic pies, all handmade, the pastry was perfect, not too thick, light and clearly not from frozen. The filling for the chickpea curry was up there with the best I've had in this country. Skip the French bakery and hit this guy up instead. His sourdough is also chronic!
J.
Best pie ever!!! Didn’t expect to be offered 5 different veg options (all looked amazing).
S.
You don't often find a decent bakery these days, but this place is fantastic!!!. The pies are the best I've had....love the steak'n'cheese same for the cinnamon scrolls. We also took back a couple loaves of bread, a ciabatta and a rye loaf.....wow!!!
Hands down best bakery I've seen in NZ and simply awesome smiley service. Goodluck guys, you're doing an amazing job
M.
Really good coffee truck with a very friendly owner. The custard doughnut was delicious too. There was an excellent selection of hot pies but unfortunately didn’t get to try.
T.
The best pies you'll find in the South. We go every time we're in Murch. The bloke is a bit of a legend too
D.
Best pies we've had in a long time. Don't usually eat more than 1 but had to go back for more. If you pass through without getting one, you're missing out!
J.
You know this pie is going to be memorable from the outset. Lee is a pukka chap like your granddad yarned about, the sourdough pastry is mint, the filling actually fills the pie. It's full of goodies and there's none of that gelatine muck in sight. Woah. Get one whenever you're within a 100km radius. The coffee was well above average too.
T.
After reading the great reviews I was fascinated to try and was not disappointed. I drove 3 hours for this and made sure we passed by again on the return journey from Nelson to Christchurch. The best pies I’ve ever had. Wish it was in Sydney
R.
Put this on your itinerary, you won't regret it 35 out of 35 on my pie scale!
A.
Incredibly good pies. We only bought one each for a snack later in the day but we should have bought more!
I’ll be coming back here every time I drive through Murchison.
T.
Absolutely the best pies you can imagine!! Top quality ingredients and perfect preparation make for an outstanding "quick-lunch" experience! Buy more to go, you'll be glad you did!
J.
The BEST! These pies are just brilliant. Proper pastry and excellent fillings. Just wish I'd bought a dozen for the journey ;-)

(Translated) We happened to stop by Tutaki and buy bread there. It was even warm. An hour later we ate a piece and now regret that we did not buy another one. That is, in fact, the best bread we have eaten in New Zealand. Too bad we did not read the reviews before, otherwise we would have bought the whole car empty. If you come by, you should definitely stock up with the delicacies.
