Cute little place with meticulously crafted sweet delights and coffee. Just look at the beauty I had today!
If you're fancy to please your eyes and taste buds definitely it's your place. I wish they offer a high tea menu and croissants.

Here we have a lovely little shop that is tastefully decorated and feels like a special place to visit. There is really not much to see when you enter though. A drinks fridge, a display case and a coffee machine is pretty much it.
But have a look at the display case and you will be impressed. The cakes are tiny pieces of art, full of fun colours and shapes. You may want to just get one of each to find out what they are like, but then you'd see the price and rethink that option.
In many bakeries you could probably pick up a slice, cream bun or custard square for 3-4 dollars. These are not your run of the mill cakes though and a price of $9.50 each reflects that. And I would not object, except...
Food for me needs to satisfy 3 senses. Sight, smell and of course, taste. There is no doubt these cakes satisfy the sense of sight. However, because they are all covered in a sugary coating of some sort, there is no smell until you tear them open. And sadly, for me at least, there was very little smell even then.
My biggest issue though is the flavour, or lack of it. I find this consistently with French patisserie. Sugar is not flavour, and most of the time, sweetness is all I get from fancy French cakes.
Of the cakes I tried (and to be fair, I didn't try them all!) only around 10-20% of the cakes had any flavour. And by that I mean that only the small centre of the cakes had flavour while the mousse cake outsides were colourful but just sweet.
So, bottom line, if you want real flavour, this is not for you. But, if you are a fan of French style patisserie and want to be wowed, you can't go past Karl Felipe.

Tidy premise and nice staff. Creme brulee was delicious and we liked the base. The raspberry egg was good. Beautiful presentation.

Tiny place but it has nice desserts. The egg one is hard to transport without it falling over!
Side note, the name needs to be updated on Google maps (Felipe not Felice).

I know that this place is amazing because by the time I get there they've sold out of their little treasures! And as for Norma's RIDICULOUS review about requiring 'nice' china ... I'm pretty sure the proprietor would have explained to you that due to Council regulations they may only use takeaway containers right now. You might wish to apologise to these guys Norma.

Appreciate having a local French patisserie in Mahara Place Waikanae . The cakes are very presentable and every piece of it is an art.
