D.We just came for a drive from Nelson checking out what's further down the highway. After first stopping at the cafe starting with R across the road and leaving because it was stinky and underwhelming, we said let's just go to this bakery. Best choice. We had a chicken pie (excellent apparently) and a vegetable pie - best I've ever had! Wonderful swirly potato top, lightly crispy and sesame seeded. Inside full of carrot, potato, leek and white sauce. Very good. If I could I would just add cracked pepper. Also had nice ginger crunch and took home a French stick which was unusually sprinkled in rock salt and rosemary (?) very nice. We sat outside munching our pies and there was a constant stream of people with a queue out the door! Lots of pies and delicious looking classic sweet treats. We'll be back for sure.
A.Can't go past a famous Wakefield Bakery pie! Just what you need after a long drive, or even just a short one! Hadn't been here for nearly 15 years & those pies are still amazing. Also good coffee & a whole range of other bakery items, I just really love those pies though. yum!

Beautiful range of fresh products, very inviting and one heck of a busy place, I can see why. Coffee was delicious 😋. We will be back on our next trip.
A.Great local bakery. They have seating inside and out. There's a good selection of pies, savouries, sweets and cakes. We got pies, and they were filled to the brim. Their mince and cheese was fantastic. Free water is available too. There's a large field next to the bakery and across the road are two tame sheep.
M.Can not drive past, have to stop at least for a sausage roll. Coffee is a bit too hot but still nice ny wife asked for almond milk and they had that. Have not any complaint on any food everything so far is fantastic.

G.This place is world famous around these parts. If you are a local or on a roadie then stop in to food up. Great range of goodies and excellent coffee. Takeaway or sit for a while. Also remember they are open at 5am for the early birds.

Don’t worry if you see a shop filled with people, the staff are highly organised and service is friendly and slick.

C.Best bakery in the area - when you talk to anyone about pies, these guys are who you measure others against. They are the BEST!!! Not to mention they have the only custard squares that I will eat. Would love to try more of their goods but I can't manage to get past the Steak and Cheese pie and a custard square.

A.Beautiful spot to stop for breakfast/lunch if you travel between Nelson or Picton and Nelson Lakes National Park.
We had breakfast there and scones and pie and coffee were just delicious.

f.If you do not stop by here, you are making a mistake 😄 absolutely magnificent baking. Wow ~ fleshly baked EVERYDAY, delicious ~ ate my cream and Raspberry bun before I even left the shop😋, purcgased more though ~ would be rude to leave empty handed 😅 well presented cabinet. Staff super friendly and locals proud to promote their BAKERY. Shop is on the lefthand side of the road as you enter the town of Wakefield, pull in, plenty of parking. Best find ever - great job.

M.No, actually 12 stars. The biggest complaint is that I have to drive past it - one of the best bakeries I've ever found - every time I go home from Nelson. Their pies are substantial, their Marmite or savoury scrolls are yummy and inexpensive snacks, and their cake cabinet is a work of art. They care about what they make, and it shows. A constant wave of locals, travellers and tradies refuel on their quality food. Cheerful service as well!

J.I have to give the "Wakey bakey" 5 stars for the category it is in... the best modern example of a down to earth "old style no frills bakery, if you are looking for one. Everything is made on the spot, and there is none of that horrible out of the bag formula bread base that so many bakeries have sold out to in NZ as far as I am aware. The pies ar really good, as are items with cream or custard in them and the main reason we stop. The coffee isnt. If you are Gluten or dairy free, forget it, but DO stop here if you are not
