The Best Family Holiday Experience!
Our family group of 6 were blown away at the hospitality Pauline and Nick provided. We had the most incredible time! I don’t even know where to start.
The accomodation was wonderful, owned and operated by these two wonderful people. The tour was detailed and they literally think of everything down to every last detail!
I cannot say enough about their knowledge and passion for the area, the rail trail history and for hosting.
Our kids loved spending time with Pauline while the adults did things outside of riding like curling and enjoying the lovely dinning offerings around the region. We really felt they became a part of the family and we were so sad when the 5 days had to end.
The bikes are wonderful and new and comfortable. The tour van new and spacious and lovely. I could go on for hours about how great this trip was.
Experience it for yourself! Our recommendation is the whole big package. You won’t regret it one minute.
Thanks so much Pauline and Nick.
We look forward to exploring another part of your beautiful region with you again soon :)

Our family of four, including two somewhat ornery teens, just completed the Otago Rail Trail with OffTheRails. We had a fantastic experience! We loved all the history that Nick provided, the attentive check-ins along the way to ensure we were doing OK, and the thoughtful extras like curling in Naseby! The accommodation in the cute cottage in Ranfurly was very comfortable and the dining facilitated by OffTheRails in amazing places like St Bathans exceeded our expectations- thanks Nick and Pauline for some wonderful family memories!

I was a bit nervous about whether I would be up to biking this far (as a non-biker) but I needn't have been at all. It is totally doable for all ages. With Off-The-Rails you get a personalised service from the moment you arrive (even the family made home baking for along the way!) Nick has done this before! He knows what you'll be thinking, what you need to know, when you need to know it, and absolutely everything there is to know about the history of the area. You feel in safe hands the whole way through - and you learn so much! Nick is a professional, he is very health and safety conscious, and has everything planned out for you from the moment you arrive. Having said that, it isn't a race and he is also aware it is a holiday for most, so there is flexibility along the way. We weren't interested in racing off, but enjoying the journey - the scenery, the cafes, the little towns along the way - and that was all fine. The bikes were great and made the bike ride so much easier to manage on the occasional slope. The accommodation was warm and welcoming, and in our case with our own bathroom. We are so pleased we did it and are keen to progress with the Clyde to Lawrence Stage 2 trip. Thanks Nick and Pauline - it was a fabulous experience!

Fantastic! This was an amazing way to do some of the rail trail (although they offer tours of all lengths), it was definitely VIP and extremely reasonably priced. We were provided with a couple of high-end ebikes, driven to the start of our section of trail and met our guide (Nick, no, not me) at points of interest where he shared his amazing knowledge of the area and its history. A delicious morning tea and Cafe lunch was provided along with water and everything we could need to stay safe on the trail. This was well worth it despite the inclement weather and Nick kept in touch to ensure we were happy to continue. We will definitely be back to do some more!

Just completed the cycle tour - best experience ever. Nick & Pauline are superb hosts and managed the whole process with great communication. Nick has an enormous knowledge of the history and geography of the area, with stories to tell from daylight to dusk. Staying in one location for the tour was a real bonus, and having dinner in different towns each night provided great variety. The accommodation was superb, - modern with plenty of space. Doing the "Curling" experience in Naseby was great fun - highly recommended!
I rode a normal hardtail mountain bike that was maintained in great condition each day.
I'm looking forward to doing a different tour with Nick & Pauline in Central Otago.

Excellent organisation of our 4 day OCRT trip by Nick and the OTR crew - would highly recommend them to anyone planning to do a supported/guided trip.
Nick's encyclopaedic knowledge of all things relating to the history of the railway, the gold rush era, the development of the Rail Trail and Central Otago in general was a huge bonus - his minibus commentaries are exceptional!
The Ranfurly accommodation was very comfortable (& split new - which probably accounts for the lack of any wall art and bedside lights, which are the only shortcomings we could scrape up!)
Nothing was too much trouble - but our particular thanks are due to Nick and Yvonne for their assistance when one of our group was injured when she (& bike) were blown over by fiercely gusting sidewinds between Auripo and Ida valley.
Notwithstanding this unfortunate incident, we all had a memorable experience, and will treasure (mostly!) happy memories of our Central Otago holiday.

Great company, premium service. Very accomodating, if you are considering a cycle trail in Central Otago this is the company to use!

We didn't actually hire bikes (we have our own), but I rang on a Sunday to inquire about spare parts. The response was incredibly forthcoming, with an immediate look at workshop inventory and helpful advice on alternate repair options and locations. It is very apparent this operator is not "just about money", but rather, provides a great service to ensure visitors get to enjoy their local experience to the max.

An amazing experience - to cycle through so much of Central Otago over 4 days. I still feel I need to pinch myself to check if it was real. Pauline was a wonderful cycling companion. Nick was always there where he said he would be - with snacks on the trail or somewhere to stop for lunch. Both Nick and Pauline have a wealth of knowledge about the trail and the history of the region. Their one-stop-shop with one payment for the whole tour, including bike hire and accommodation made it very easy. The offtherails accommodation in Ranfurly is superb and being transferred there each night meant that there was no packing up and moving on each morning. Highly recommended.
