E.I cannot recommend Big Al’s more highly. The whole team is so friendly and helpful, they call everyone by name and keep all your hire history for a later date to make return trips easy. Their service is fast, and their gear is great quality. Love them!
A.Awesome service and price, super friendly and very helpful staff. We rolled in after 7pm and the staff sorted my girls boots for the next day and buying some poles at a very reasonable price with great local knowledge. Highly recommend! Keep it up team!
M.Amen for this place. They know what they are doing, and provide a fantastic service. From phone booking right through to returning hire gear, they were all over it. The staff were so friendly and helpful, and shop is open early till late to accommodate whatever your needs may be. Pricing was fair and the gear provided was A+. It made my week 100x better. Don’t hire on the mountain when you have this option ✌🏼
A.Great ski rental, friendly and professional staff. Ski quality was very good. Rented 3 days but the mountain was closed for 2 and they refunded the unused days which was not expected but much appreciated. Will definitely rent here again

S.Great rentals, good quality almost new ski boots in the rentals which I was pretty impressed by. Best rental boots I've had in NZ! the staff were good too and very accommodating. Good price as well.
R.My husband and I hired ski gear. We showed up at midday without an appointment which seemed to throw the staff. They were quite frantic and a bit short/abrupt, despite us being the only customers in the store at the time. We left a little bewildered, but the gear we hired was good and fit well. We were able to pick up our skis at 7am the next morning on the way to the mountain which was very convenient.
N.Rented Skis an boots here. I grew up working in the ski industry and can tell this is a great shop. Good bootfitters are hard to find for rentals. They had a pair of Langes that fit my thin calves better than any boot before.
R.My husband and I hired snow clothing and some ski gear from Big Al’s. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The gear was mostly great. They were happy for me to swap gloves one day and goggles another. The hiring was very relaxed from day to day. There was some mix ups with costs but that was all sorted out. We were sooo warm in the snow gear up on Mt Hutt!
D.We had 1 board waxed and another waxed and fixed - it needed a whole lot of p-texing. They did a great job, assured me it would be done by the morning and it was! Picked it up and it looked great, and it was super affordable as well. Thanks Big Al!
S.Service wasn't friendly. I couldn't use the snow boot at the ski field because there was a sharp edge in it which i hadn't checked earlier. When I brought it back, instead of being apologetic the lady there tried to say it was my fault for not checking earlier. She did eventually give me a refund, but she wasn't friendly about it. Need better attitude in such a retail business. I'd go to the Alpine snow rentals next time
b.Big Al'S Methven, Wow ! what an amazing store. We hired Ski gear (Aug 2019) from these guys. Initially we selected this store due to the pricing but were blown away by their incredible service. I'm not just talking about friendly and helpful when selecting and being fitted, For example, a few days in, we (our group of 11) asked about swapping our skies so we could see what change the different types would make to our skiing , not only were these guys more than happy to swap them, they spent heaps of time explaining what the different features would make on the mountain. Anyway, I could rave about these guys for hours, Do yourself a favour, and hire from these guys. Fair Dinkum they were bloody Great !

We had a problem with our boots on the first day, and then changed them for a better fit, with no extra charge, even though they spent 30min+ helping us!
Prices quite reasonable too.

S.Way better gear than Mt Hutt and really cool staff working at Big Al's. The lady sorted me out with a perfect fit of shoes and the skis she gave me really helped me go from being a beginner to easily handling intermediate slopes.
