P.We have been thinking about trying e bikes for a while now and managed to hire 2 through Planet bike over a busy period. The staff were awesome, very accommodating and helpful. When we showed up they got us properly measured and set up on the bikes, gave us a run through, made sure we were comfortable and happy with our bikes and then we were off. The bikes were in very good condition and obviously well maintained. The hand back process was also very simple. Over all a very enjoyable experience and next time we are looking to hire bikes we will definitely look to planet bike again.
C.We hired e-bikes for the first time. Great bikes with full suspension. They make sure the bikes fit you and run through how they all work. Really helpful staff. Rode the Forest trail - awesome.
A.Fantastic service is really the standard here. Beg/Int mountain biker from Tauranga. Decided that I wanted to give an e-bike a try on the trails. Rented a full suspension E-MTB. I had so much fun I returned less than a week later to do it again! Both times they took the time to measure the sag in the suspension, install my pedals, and switch the brakes around (I'm American). All done @ NO additional charge... to ensure that I had the best ride possible. Great shop, great equipment, great location! What more can you ask for?
J.I decided it was time to be a bigger again and travelled to rotarua with my mates. I took my hard tail that I bought 13 years ago. After one day of miserable tail riding I rented a bike from these lovely people. They didn't even laugh at me, they just took my money and set me up on a banshee so I could send it more than my mates.
D.The best place to rent quality bikes and eBikes. Super friendly people, family run business. Coffee cart outside was bonus. Just go for it.
J.Out of towners looking to bike in Rotorua? This is the place to go. The staff was super helpful and friendly, their bikes were well equipped and well taken care of, and their prices are totally reasonable. The biking right outside their door is pretty nice too.
Also, they rent e-bikes if that's your thing.

j.Top quality bike hire. Staff were really friendly and helpful. The bike was excellent and great condition. There's a lot of routes to do in the forest. Sam gave me an excellent 4 hour route which worked out perfectly. Can't recommend them enough. Thank you!
P.I don't usually bother with reviews, Ed went out of his way to accommodate us for a mere 2 hour rental on muddy trails. His mechanical skills are outstanding and the quick bike fit proved to be perfect for myself and my wife, including putting our own SPD pedals on. On a rainy and miserable morning, we had smiles on our faces after chatting to Ed and his feline assistant. The bikes (Scott Genius and Avanti Plus) worked perfectly, despite the wet and were higher spec than Rotorua MTB and in better working condition. Also cheaper. Could not ask for better helpful service and even got given free chocolate as we got into our car! Will come again.
G.Far less crowded than the main car park rental company, and only short trip away (plus cheaper).
Bikes are in great condition (hired Banshee Rune). Friendly staff who give great tips on where to ride.

D.Mountain Bike Rotorua, up the road shut, despite google saying it was open, and someone pointed us in this direction. If it wasn't for them we would have missed out on mountain biking. Staff gave us a good briefing, and checked we had the right bikes for our heights and weights. Good service. If we go MB again, we will come back here.
M.Highly knowledgeable and skilled mechanic. I've rented and come in for servicing and every time I am impressed. This isn't a run of the mill bike hire and servicing, these are top of the line bikes kitted out with the best you can buy componentry and maintained to the highest standards. Also great coffee.
B.Best place to rent. The bonus is that it's also the best place to grab a coffee.
B.Have always wanted to take the family mountain biking through the redwoods and Planet Bike helped make the experience so easy and enjoyable. I believe it is a family owned business and they were all so friendly and great to deal with. The bikes we rented (at very reasonable rates) were excellent and we all had such a great time. I have already recommended Planet Bike to other friends and we will use them when in Rotorua next. Thanks Planet Bike we will see you in September!
S.Seems like good value for money. We rented two bikes for two hours at $35 per bike with a helmet included. They do take your credit card details and write it down on paper which doesn’t seem like the most secure approach. Would rent from there again.

A.First time on a bike in years the team were great at finding a bike for me. The Scottish blood in me meant I only asked for front suspension, but after 3 hours on the bike I wish I had rented the soft tail. All the same the bike was tuned immaculately and the staff super friendly. Super close to all the trails and ample safe car parking. Highly recommended!!
L.Turned up to hire some bikes. Met Sam and Lennore. They gave great service and asked about the type of riding I do.
They suggested a Dual suspension Banshee Rune which was a great bike and ran really well.
Sam also took the time to go through a map and wrote down a suggested loop.
The mountain and tracks are awesome with something for everyone from beginners to advanced.
At the end of the day upon returning the bike I got a coffee which was great. Very chilled out atmosphere very friendly and good for a chat.
Thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommended.

T.Great service and great bikes. It does add 2.0km distance to start of trails but its all flat and a good warmup, wind down. Would def use again. Great staff. You wont go wrong here.

A.Typical laid back Kiwi company, in that they combine great service with a relaxed attitude. Bike was available at the time requested, was in good condition, they changed my pedals to SPD quickly, and rates very affordable. This was my third visit.

D.Great - couldn't ask for more. I rented a bike two days in a row, and both days the bike was in good condition. The brakes, shifting and suspension was on point. The staff was helpful in showing me a suggested route, and friendly conversationalists. The location was also right by the trail head. If I'm here again, I'll rent here again.

Just to mention, I did rent a bike from the local MTB trail centre on the previous day and the bike was a bit bashed up and the service wasn’t half as good, I actually found Planet Bike folloing that disappointing experience, just FYI.
G.My nephew and me spent 3 weeks mountain hiking throughout NZ and landed in Rotorua for our last spot. After quite a bit of research, we determined the best riding area and bike shop. We showed up at Planet Bike with no reservation (not recommended in peak season) and were greeted with a terrific reception and input from the owners and their son. We rode out of Planet Bike for 4 days and still didn’t get enough but had to head back to the US.
These folks have been running this shop for 20 years out of a super cool old lumber mill. Oh ye, they have excellent coffees (try the flat white).
Cheers to being halfway around the globe and feeling like an extension of their family with initially just MTBing on common.

J.Just had a completely wonderful 4hrs MTB in this beautiful forest. The hardtail bikes are great quality and well looked after. Great service, we were spoiled with treats when we returned looking hot and tired. Worth renting here right on the doorstep of all the trails.
A.Great lil (big) independant bike shop, right on the edge of the Redwoods trail system! Large fleet of bikes, including top of the line electric MTBs that'll have you ripping up trails without getting exhausted.
M.Great bike facility. Ed is a brilliant mechanic and a great guy. He fixed my broken suspension in the morning, then cleverly and patiently adapted some other disc brake pads to fit my Hope brakes in the evening. As we were just starting on a 3 week biking tour of NZ this was especially important. Many thanks Ed. And I agree, the coffee is excellent
M.Lovely staff! Great coffee, cold drinks, cheap bike hire and guided tours, direct access to the awesome mountain biking area at the redwoods! You also are able to get a shuttle ticket paid with credit if you don't have cash for paying it directly at the shuttle bus.

N.Best coffee had in months! You must stop here for coffee at least. The guy gets his own special blend made up. Great service, friendly and knowledge and nice place to sit and chill. You can buy shuttle tickets here too.

R.These guys fixed my bike when I had a bad crash. I twisted my forks, bent my axle and buckled my wheel. Ed managed to wrench my forks back into place, chucked in a stronger axle and trued my wheel. No stress. If I took my bike anywhere else they would've gotten me to replace my forks and pay mega $$$. They are always welcoming and the place has a relaxed environment. Would recommend to go there to hire a bike, buy a bike or get your bike serviced at.
T.If you like quality workmanship, friendly service and not being made feel like a muppet when you don't know what's making 'that' noise on your bike, just go here. I don't bring my bike anywhere else when I'm in Rotorua.
Also, they rent banshees! That's pretty sweet...

F.Rented a bike from these guys, cheaper than all the others and right in the middle of the trails. Bike wasnt cheap, a nice Avanti HT with all of the gear.
Ended up being a little over 2 hours and they still charged me the 2 hour rate.
Great bunch and would use them again!
G.I tried hard to have a 'good business' dealing with Planet bike, but I ended up leaving with an unhappy experience.
The bike I hired was old and had many parts replaced which were not original spec. The derailleur hanger broke while riding on the track from town to bike park. I was blamed for braking it.
I ended up only hiring for 1 day and then getting a boring Giant from the MTB Rotorua guys who were much more accommodating and who I am happy to recommend.
T.I'm not sure what some of the other reviewers here have been smoking...the service from Planet Bike is absolutely top-notch. Lennore and Ed (owners) are passionate about what they do, and go out of their way to make sure you get the most from your time in Rotorua. Talk to them about what sort of riding you do (or want to do), and they'll sort you with the right bike for it. Have used on both visits to Rotovegas, and recommend highly.

G.Saved the day with a last minute repair to a dodgy dropper post and makes superb coffee. Very cool spot to hangout and always welcoming.
E.I checked out bikes from here and MTB Rotorua before renting and the spec here was better. Shimano XT, and rockshox forks. When initially renting they made sure we had the right size, checked our ability and came up with a loop that would suit our skill level which I thought was a good touch. We were 10 minutes over the 4 hours and they didn't say a word which was really good too as you get places that can be really fussy on times. Overall decent bikes and decent staff.
J.Hired bikes from here and also got patched up (first aid). Reasonable prices and very convenient. People here are lovely and show what's best of the Rotorua and cycling community!

S.This is a biker's Disney land. Vast selection of trails with all kind of difficulties. The bike rental is a bit off hand but well worth the distance as it is where many trails start and you can ride all day without ever seeing a car or non biker's. The bikes are in immaculate condition and a vast selection, even for big groups.

Un servicio increible, acogida calurosa e información de todas las actividades para hacer con la bicicleta, encima la zona es una maravilla para hacer el recorrido en bici de montaña, son pistas con niveles y dificultades muy variadas (profesionales y tambien familiares) . Os lo recomiendo al 100% .
