Had the reuben sandwich. It took awhile to consume it. That tubular-looking thing is a dessert. Very nice. Washed it down with a white coffee. Extremely good value at $18.00.

It's pretty fabulous! You do need to be aware that their coffee offerings are quirky: you certainly can't get a standard café flat white, even if that's what you order. My favourite is the hard sheep cheese with infused truffle.

Really liked the location, quality, and variety of stuff available here. We heard about the Reuben sandwich here so traveled from Wellington to try it first hand. It was delicious and a half portion was enough for two of us. While you’re there be sure to check out all the diverse range of delicacies.

Delicious Ruben, the large size is really large, very delicious and perfectly made. The selection of biltong is outstanding. The Jagveld and the Wet are among my personal favourite.

Delicious coffee and good sandwiches. I tried the Reuben which has a very savoury kick, the hot dogs and ham and cheese sandwiches also looked good and I'm looking forward to trying those next time. The rest of the deli offers great variety, and as a big bonus they have Biltong which is a bit hard to find around here!

If you want a "deli" sandwich, this is the best place in Petone. The meat in the sandwiches is sliced thing and stacked on, instead of having one or two slices of medium meat. The bread, cheese and other ingredients are the ones you would expect in a classic sandwich. They don't try and fancy it up by adding things that are not meant to be in the sandwich.

Greek deli choices but now they've stopped free tasting because people were abusing the service but tasting a lot but not buying much. That's s shame the tasting of some different cheeses was what attracted me. Updating review. Visited on 23 Dec and tasting is back again. That might not be a good thing since I tasted more choices and bought more 😜. Still go to place for dried meats and imported cheese Visited again March 2021. Now they have a brunch menu including a monster Reuben sandwich. That would serve two easily. It's a great sandwich but perhaps my only criticism is the vogel's bread is a bit thin to hold all the pastrami. Perhaps a thicker roll would be a better vehicle to hold all the fillings. But highly recommended

Always a great experience coming to OnTrays. They had just opened after renovations and are now serving food which you can eat on proper cafe tables. Some new staffing along with old ones but the experience is lovely as always with the owners and staff being very warm and friendly. Food of course is the same excellent quality. Highly recommended!

The deli is the highlight with an astonishing selection of cheeses (plenty in the cooler not on display, speak to the staff about what you want and they will sort you out). I popped into OnTrays on Sunday with my husband to but lots of SA goodies which remind me of “home”. The mixed veg pickle was off and smelt awful, sadly. This was the first time I had this experience, as I have been shopping there for the last 15 years. I called Steven and had a chat about it this morning, and he said to bring it in. I popped in this arvo, he was surprised as he said this never happened before. He was nevertheless polite, professional and offered another bottle or a refund. A friendly south African deli that, as well as a big selection of biltong, has a large selection of international foods of all kinds. You'll probably be offered a free coffee when you go in and can taste biltong, cheeses and probably most other things in the deli. Another nice touch is you get the option of paper bags at checkout. There are only a few downsides to the shop. The main one is that it can get quite busy and the aisles are quite narrow so it can be difficult to move around. The other is that you spend more money than you mean to 😄. A highly recommended shop.

I place we almost any foodstuff you can think of can be found. Specialises in foreign food with the emphasis on the owner's home country of South Africa. A good wine selection. All customers are welcomed with the words, 'Would you like some coffee?' Coffee is served in cups and both skim and full milk are on offer.There is no pressure to buy if one accepts the coffèe but people invarably do as the food samples one can try are too good not to take home. OnTrays also supplies the restaurant trade.
