Reviews of Auckland Budget Cars
L.
My friend and I bought a 1998 Toyota Estima Lucida from Auckland Budget Cars. The car seemed very nice to us because it had some new mechanical parts (brake pads and a radiator) and tyres which wouldn't be necessary for us to renew during our time in New Zealand. Furthermore, new mattresses, cutlery, a gas cooker, dishes and more were provided. The WOF, REGO and oil service were also new.
For our test drive Ati picked us up which was very nice! During the test drive I noticed a very present noise. Because of that I told Shane I would tell a mechanic to take a look at it. Shane kept pointing out to me that the car was in good condition which sounded very promising to me. Since we were under time pressure, we decided to buy the car at a negotiated price without their guarantee.
The same day I had the sound checked by a mechanic who told me that a belt was about to tear. So we let him renew it.
During the days the money got transferred (we used TransferWise) Ati and Shane seemed a bit suspicious on Messenger which I didn't like much because they saw how we did the transfer.
After my friend and I travelled to Northland, another problem became apparent. The brakes sometimes partially lost their braking effect which is known as 'brake fading' and can extend the braking distance in emergency situations. For this we had a change of the brake fluid which didn't improve it. So I came up with the idea of having the brakes renewed. But since it was caused by the quality of the brakes which had been replaced by Auckland Budget Cars (the pads), I would have liked them to pay for it. After a discussion on Messenger they refused and only wanted to pay a small amount. So we waited with that.
Weeks later another mechanic said it would be normal. So we didn't renew them.
In my opinion, however, this shouldn't be normal. I never drove a car with brake fading in my whole life, even though I drove old cars, too.
I hope that Auckland Budget Cars uses brakes of a higher quality in the future or also changes the disks.
Because of the belt Shane and I had a conversation on the phone.
Shane called me a rude person and that I would try to take advantage of Auckland Budget Cars because as I already got a negotiated price. But that they would also pay for the belt and the brake fluid change which they already wanted when I was about to renew the brake pads.
I told him that I would have just liked to get a car in "good condition" like they told me at first which I think I didn't get (belt change and brake fading). And that for me negotiating the price is just a way to buy a used car.
In the end, I think it was a misunderstanding with the negotiation of the price. Shane thought I would use it for reparations and I just did it because I think it's normal.
Anyway we're happy with our car 'Kyle' and that Auckland Budget Cars decided to pay us the money for the belt and brake fluid change.
I would like them to take more care of the brakes in the future and to not seem suspicious if the money transfer isn't working just in time.
Thank you, Shane and Ati!
EDIT (answer to comment):
- I still don‘t think that I asked for a discount because of the belt as this is something I do all the time buying used products. If I did, I’m sorry.
But even if I had asked for a discount because of that, Shane and Ati pointed out that the car is in „good condition“ which for me means that it hasn’t a belt which is about to tear.
- For me it seemed suspicious that you guys didn‘t trust your customer as we did the transfer with showing you our phone. But that‘s just my opinion.
- I know what I feel while braking. And that‘s a sinking pedal.
- I explained and apologized earlier. In my opinion a belt which is about to tear is still no „good condition“. Even with a negotiated price.
- We have been happy with the car even though we have had other problems not mentioned in the review. But we didn‘t like the support.
- I think the review is fair for both, Auckland Budget Cars and me, as I also mentioned a lot of good points.

I purchased a 2009 BMW X5 from Auckland Budget Cars and found the whole process stress free. Shane was more than obliging when I requested some minor issues be fixed/replaced. I have no problem in recommending Auckland Budget Cars for a great deal on a quality car. I plan to return here when it is time to trade in again.

Honest secondhand car dealers do exist, and Shane is one of them. A pleasure to do business with. We love the Nissan Caravan we bought from him. Would recommend to anybody looking to buy a vehicle in the Auckland area.

I purchased a 2008 A4 3.2 Audi Avant from Shane late last year. My review is purposefully late because I like to give my run with the car about 3 months before writing a review. Shane receives 5 stars from me for his honesty and work ethic around the car I wanted to purchase. initially there were some problems with the vehicle which Shane rectified swiftly, shortly after purchasing it another problem. which again, Shane was more than happy to fix. since then I have had an amazing time with the vehicle and have enjoyed driving the head turner around!

Amazing prices on these vehicles. We bought a Ute from Shane and the team just over a month ago and it was the best vehicle purchase we have made in ages. Shane made it all so easy and he even popped in a new stereo and reversing cam. We are stoked and will be back in the future for sure!

We live in NZ and bought this campervan from Auckland Budget Cars. Great value for money. Besides that, Shane is an awesome guy. Super Friendly. Sent friends to him as well.

We purchased a quality camper van for a very reasonable price thanks to Shane! He helped us with a few different things about the car after buying with no hesitation at all. Really great guy and honest prices. We are very satisfied with the van we purchased and were pleased to do business with Shane!

Shane is a truly honest person.
We bought a van from him 2 month ago, and he has always been available to help us when we had a problem.
Indeed, when you buy a camper van you have to expect to face some mechanical or electrical issues sometimes. Shane always helped us to solve those problems as fast as he could so we could enjoy our road trip with a free mind.
If you want to travel safe, go for it and buy you van at Auckland budget car!

Shane is a guy you can trust. He runs a company with his family who give you excellent service. They can pick you up from your hostel and they also go with you to the post office for transferring the ownership. We bought a car few weeks ago, but sadly it had some minor problem after a couple of days. Because the cars that Shane sells come with 6 months warranty and road assistance there was no problem. We had contact with Shain and he assured us that everything would be taken care of. We only had to pay the excess. He later gave us the excess back because it had happened shorty after we bought the car. After the quick repairs we are back on the road again. We are really happy we bought the car from Shane and the service he offers
