Reviews of Britz Campervan Hire Auckland
W.
Used their relocation, very good vehicle, actually impressive.
2 points I provided them to improve their service:
- fleas in the campervan.
- wastewater (and fresh water gallon) been stale and wasn't emptied previously causes bad smell when starting the rental.
Otherwise it's been a pleasant experience, I liked the performance, the setup and the trip itself alongside the useful thl app.
R.
Really happy with our two week motor home rental. Clean and reliable vehicle, well fitted out for our needs and a good navigation system. Bike rack on the back was good. Drove (via the West Coast) as far south as Arrowtown and back to Auckland.
M.
Very cheerful customer care experience and good pricing even in the high season. The van was exceedingly tidy and drove with decent power handling unsealed roads perfectly. Would book again.
A.
It took quite a while for the busy staff to get round to us on arrival. The handover briefing was adequate.
The Campervan was clean and reliable, but in use there emerged a number of niggling problems with the on-board equipment. The on-board Tablet contained out of date information (5 years old) on campgrounds. the WiFi monitor did not show how much data we were using out of our allowance and we lost connection for 4 days in the middle of our month's travel. Both flame safety devices on the gas barbecue and on one of three hob gas flames did not work (flames went out). The supplementary electric fan heater was broken. We had one set of pillow cases provided for a whole month away (two duvets and blankets plus three bottom sheets). The bed made up with seating cushions was not great for comfort, but I suppose is a limitation of this kind of transport where you don't have a dedicated sleeping area. There was no working TV and there was something wrong with the radio antenna as it could not find or hold even local stations.
On the positive side, the van performed well and economically, with enough power to maintain good cruising speeds and climb passes, and with a choice of speed limiter or cruise control the selectable automatic gearbox was very useful on long journeys and steep roads once we had worked it out (there should be specific mention of such drive train functions in the handover for vehicles to which this applies). The turning front seats and small table enabled us to keep the bed made most of the time (awkward to set up cushions). The refrigerator was very good and the vehicle auxiliary electrics were fine for camera battery, phone and toothbrush chargers.
Our Britz return was booked in Christchurch which was a bit busy and chaotic as everyone seems to turn up at 4 p.m. Overall experience was good value for money, if you don't mind the niggles.
B.
We had a 4 berth camper for 5 days and even though it was mid winter we were cosy and warm. The bed was adequately sized and comfortable. I was very impressed with how easy the camper was to drive.
n.
Check in our car here. The check in is totally easy and hassle free.
Staff are friendly, they can answer your question if you have any doubt
They provide shuttle service from airport to their office. Just show them your receipt and you can ride for free.
Car is good. Really enjoyed for their services.
D.
The deals they had were fantastic, we spent almost 6 weeks on two trips in both the South and North Islands. The vans were clean and tidy and performed well with good economy..
G.
Awesome Voyager, served our purpose. Lovely to drive and very comfortable. Great service from staff also! Spacious inside too! Well worth the money.
A.
Was a bit nervous as we saw some mixed reviews online. The experience was perfect though:
The 4 berth Toyota van was very clean, including duvets, pillows towels and an extra blanket in case it gets cold. It even came with washing liquid for the dishes and clothes washing detergent.
We cooked several times and used all pots, cutting knives and cutlery as well as the camping table and chairs.
Driving was great, loved the car, turning radius etc.
Drop off was convenient, took 10 minutes.
Check-in had a 45 minute wait which seemed unnecessarily long but we got coffee and tea.
Would definitely recommend!

This was our first campervan experience, and one that we fully enjoyed, it would have been even better but for the following issue's with the campervan.
1. GPS for Sat nav not working when Campervan was handed to us, obviously never checked before being released to the client.
a. Auckland staff resolved issue.
2. After a few days on the road, decided to make sure that we had no waste water, was surprised by how long it took to empty this tank. Especially considering that we had hardly used any waste water. Was using the campsite facilities. Seems as though the waste tank had never been checked prior to client handover
3. We are having to use our luggage bags to wedge the fridge door and crockery drawer closed, as they have a tendency to open on the road. It would have been nice to stow these bags away.
4. The rear bed reading lights do not work.
5. The underside of the awning is filthy.
6. Supposed to be provided with three sets of bedding. Third set did not have bedding sheets
7. Door handle for fly screen door snapped off.
8. Windscreen washer Tank empty
9. Water Heater temperamental
10. No screw adapter for fresh water hose
Pointed out to Britz this was very poor customer service, no excuse for some of the points mentioned above.
Britz did offer to pay our Road user fee of NZ$172 which we accepted.
G.
Excellent service! Nami, Sam and Daisy are very nice. We had a wonderful journey. Highly recommend Britz for holiday trips.
M.
We loved our little family getaway in our 6 Berth Britz campervan. The van was well equipped with the essentials - good amount of bedding/ kitchen equipment etc. Even camp chairs provided. Would recommend to anyone thinking about hiring one and touring NZ . We are a family of 4 and the 6 berth was a good amount of room for us.
V.
Thanks to Daisy, she helped us so much. We had a very wonderful holiday week with this camper-van.
P.
Everything about our hire went perfectly.
From the moment we arrived at the base in Auckland to pick up the van to when we got back a week later and returned it the experience was nothing but good. The pick up and drop off was hassle free and quick, the staff were friendly and helpful and the camper was explained to us. The camper itself was very well set up, it had everything that we needed for our trip and it drove well and was breakdown free. We would not hesitate to hire a Britz camper again and would happily recommend them.
M.
We have just returned to the UK from New Zealand where we hired a Britz camper van for 20 days on a tour of both the North & South Islands. We had a great time and must complement Britz on their good organisation and efficient service. We did have a problem with the camper van when our fridge was not working, but Britz quickly sorted out a replacement van which was delivered to us on one of the camp sites. We would certainly recommend Britz for this type of holiday. The photo is on the Top 10 Holiday Park in Kaikoura.

We had an enjoyable, memorable, and wonderful family trip to Northland. This is my first ever Google review, and that is for Britz, as we really love their service.
C.
We had a great experience with our camper. It wasn't 100% clean, the awning was wet and dirty when we put it out, the fridge had defrosted and was leaking and the outside was definitely not clean.
But everything worked fine, including the diesel heater, we had plenty of room for the four of us in a 6 berth and overall we really enjoyed our first time camping in a motorhome.
F.
We booked our rental with Britz through a third party Travel Agent, who secured us the wrong rental motorhome for our 21 trip around New Zealand. The team at Britz Auckland went above and beyond to rectify this and get us the right van on the same day, reorganising their fleet and working quickly to turn around a vehicle and get it ready.
I would recommend the team at Britz to anyone who was renting a motorhome in New Zealand; the free shuttle bus from the airport, free hot drinks, solid WiFi and a shower in the building after a 26-hour flight are a welcome bonus too.
R.
We enjoyed our trip overall. Kids got car sick in their kiddie seats cos can't see out the front and also lots of rolling movements of the camper. Was well set up and drove well. Needed a bit more cleaning but that only took 5 minutes. Kids had fun. We saved on time setting up and pulling down a tent but lost on time driving to the airport for pickup and drop off. We enjoyed it but will stick with our tent in future.
W.
Our first-time rental of camper van has made our 10 days’ trip in South Island joyful and memorable thanks to Daisy.
Without her help and assistance, my family wouldn’t have enjoyed our kiwi vacation so much! Our son even didn’t want to go home because our camper was just like a new home on the go!
Thank you so much, Daisy! You did an excellent job!
C.
Great travel with the 3 Bertha Britz. So convenient with great space with all the amenities and everything you need. Would definitely use them again A++
M.
Good campervan, very poor service from the office and poor support via phone. If you have previous experience with campervan is ok but if your case is different I recommend to think twice, if you need they support will be bad. Britz, Maui, Cheapa Campa is all the same. Overall the travel was very nice after we figure out our doubts and how things worked by ourselves.
J.
Enjoyed our short holiday in a campervan. Would have liked to have been given a bit more of a run down as to the Van's features before we left the depot. Videos on the app were good but sometimes seeing things actually would be helpful. Inside cooker needed maintenance on the ignition switch. Otherwise all good. Van was comfortable and served its purpose.
T.
We ended up with a Maui, although booked a Britz. We had an extremely long wait at pick up, despite having done it all online (and with 2 small people it was a trying time!), however they did offer us an upgrade (which we didn't take as we didn't want a huge 6-berther to drive). The Discovery Camper itself was clean and drove very well. We had a lovely week away, and would do it again. Only comment I would make is that the radio/ stereo can only be heard in the cab, so we struggled with the driving entertainment that we had planned for the small people.
C.
Thanks for providing a comfortable & reliable vehicle for our week long trip around Northland NZ. We loved the camper-van experience and will definitely be repeat customers in the future. 😊
D.
Hired a 6 berth for 11 days. Mercedes sprinter drove very well . Satnav was slightly temperamental especially with some German words! Bed and seats were not to our personal liking. Would always seek out walk round bed and cab seats that turn around. Other companies offer these features. Check out and check in were smooth. Britz address not easy to reach with alk the roadworks.
K.
Thoroughly enjoyed our home on wheels in the beautiful Bay of Islands recently, but would take our own own bed linen next time as the sheets provided had a disgusting smell and were unusable. We'd take a couple of tee-towels too, as we had nothing to dry dishes with. The vehicle registration had also expired, so we were a little concerned about insurance. Nobody was interested in our complaints when we returned the van, so sorry it has to be public broadcast.
B.
Really enjoyed our campervan experience having perfect weather helped a great deal. Was essential to have played the videos explaining how to operate the van before take off. Other campers were only to happy to assist with any problems we had. Driving was easy and the ability of the front seats to swivel made live easy when dining etc. Bedding toilet etc very good. Loved the BBQ attached to the van. Cant wait to experience campervan hirte again.
D.
We had a great holiday trip using a Britz campervan. We travelled with a 1yo and 4yo, and they were great. Watched DVDs while we travelled. Easy to pull over and have a kai and relax. Will definitely be hiring one in the future.
Some issues though with a broken window bug screen and curtain rail on the top bed and the tv kept coming loose and falling out while driving. Noted those on return for repair.
Pick up was easy at 9am and drop off a bit busy at 12pm. Overall great experience. 4.5 stars.
M.
Ended up in a Maui van so can't comment on Britz. THL app very helpful but even better if users would take the trouble to update- at one point we almost ran out of diesel heading for petrol station closed 3-4 years ago.
Van cleaning at pickup could have been more thorough- the black mould around the fridge seal wasn't great.
The Aircon only seemed to work for about 30 minutes at a time.
After a night of heavy rain we ended up with water running in to the van from under the kitchen cupboards.
Consider the limitations of a large vehicle- parking, narrow roads, sharp bends. We missed out on some places because of this. (6 berth Frontier)
130L water sounds like a lot but will barely see you through 24hrs and only one very brief shower. (That's one shower in total - not per person, there were only 3 of us).
You will need a multi- pack of T-towels to subdue some of the rattling from pots, pans and cutlery.
The beds are very hard and the slats were inclined to fall out when trying to make up the middle bed.
Overall we had fun and got to some amazing places but wouldn't hire a large camper again.
P.
The shower in the camper didn't work and the hot water at first didn't works so we had to contact you which was a painful wait. We couldn't use the table in our camper as someone previously had broken something. The upkeep of the campers needs to be improved. Travelling around in the camper was a novel first time experience.
R.
This was my first time ever renting a campervan. We rented a 6 berth camper for 4 days even thou there was only 3 of us using it. The camper showed signs of a hard life as there was a good amount of scratches and dents on the outside, the fridge vent cover panel was missing and the cutlery drawer kept opening and closing everytime we turned a corner but nothing a few bits of sellotape wouldn't fix. Due to an incident at their main depot the day before my pick up date, i had to pick it up from a temporary yard and because the better ones were at the main depot, they had to give me what they had at the time which i fully understand due to their situation. The camper handled the trip really well and it gets along at open road speeds easily and at some points i was overtaking slower cars on hills and are very easy to drive but the built in GPS could be updated as i had to use google maps on my phone to find the road our campground was on. They are thirsty as it used almost 70 litres of diesel from Auckland to Palmerston North but this was expected being a large heavy vehicle plus i was mucking around as we needed to be at our campground before 10:00pm. The diesel heater was great and it heated up quickly even on a low setting in fact we had to turn it off every once in a while as it was getting to hot. The bedding and linen provided is warm and comfortable. I would like to give them 5 stars but when we arrived at our campsite at 9:30pm i went to turn the lights on and found that there was no power and the how to video wasn't much help either. I tried calling the helpline but couldn't get through so ended up having to ask other campers if i could borrow a torch for the night. The next morning i got through to someone on the helpline and they told me what to look for and discovered that the power isolation switch had been turned off and the circuit breakers had been switched off as well but these were meant to be checked that they were on and working by a staff member before i collected it.

Had a great time traveling the far North in our maui voyages plus camper. It had everything we needed. Double bed in back was comfy the fold out single bed was comfy but definitely only for short child our daughter is 13 and 5ft 1 tall bed was to short for her. Camper had plenty of power no problems with the steep hills and windy roads of the far North. Very economical on fuel.
We will be hiring and slightly bigger van next time so our daughter has a bed that's comfy for her. Would hire this camper for my husband and I, plenty of room for 2 adults.
A.
A great 17 days away in the Britz explorer. Loved the pull down, push up bed.
It was a shame Britz took 2 hours waiting to pick up our motor home. We had ordered a 10 am pickup but was 2hours later before we got it.
Once we sorted out all the rattles and bangs within the motorhome it was great. Just as well we were avid motorhome users and were able to understand everything quite easily. Having the solar was awesome, as we only plugged into power 4 nights out of 17.
Was a pity the person explaining the ins and outs of the motorhome on pickup , didn't even now if we had solar panels or not. Just as well we were savvy on this issue.
K.
Helpful/friendly staff at pick up. Camper was comfortable and easy to drive, great instruction before i left site on use of the camper. I used whilst renovating a property and was a great solution for the lack of services at the property!
j.
Our road trip experience was awesome! THL staff Malia and Nenie were accommodating during our checkin & checkout. Upon return they waited for us until the last minute, thank you again Malia and Nenie. Easy to contact if we needed assistance. At the end of our trip, the RV performance was perfect and comfortable for the whole family. We highly recommend RV to our friends. Thank you. AAA+++

Highly recommended company. This was our first time hiring a campervan and our experience with Britz was so good, we will be looking to become repeat customers for sure.
We were so impressed with the service, the communication, the staff were amazing and the vehicle/facilities contained were so impressive!
The other thing which I completely appreciated as a novice campervan’er was the amount of clear and helpful guides available about almost every door, switch, hose, key, dashboard, everything. Either by the clear guides included in the vehicle to the excellent app with helpful videos, anything that I was unsure about was surely covered by their guides. It felt like a had my own support person on hand 24/7.
I can’t speak highly enough of Britz. Also, right at the top of the list was the amazing staff in Auckland. So helpful in getting us moving and so accommodating and understanding on our return.
Thank you for making a very memorable family trip!
D.
Fantastic experience, staff was friendly and the Camper was great. Unfortunately, a tree branch hit the roof of the camper and our full cover insurance took care of it with no hassle. I am very impressed and will always get full cover in the future as a safe guard.
D.
Check in and pick up took around 3 hours: nobody knew how to use the bike rack, and it was obvious that the campervan had not been cleaned properly. Inside was very smelly, there was a handprint on the back window, grease on the glass cook top, and we only had one duvet for two beds. It was only thanks to wonderful Nenie that everything was sorted. The excuse for the lack of cleaning was that they were busy. Not acceptable. Added to which, we are in the age of Covid 19, so it was very disconcerting. At the end of the first day, we had trouble emptying the sink of water, and only discovered that the orange waste water handle had sheared off so it was very difficult to open and drain the waste water. We assume the previous people had given up and nobody had checked that it had been done or noticed the lever was broken. We managed with improvisation as the on road support was not organised despite promises.
Apart from that, the campervan experience was most enjoyable; the van was easy to drive, had plenty of power, it was comfortable, and the solar panel was great. It was wonderful to be able to experience the North Island and the excellent freedom camping sites, some of which had hot showers. Would do it again but would expect a properly serviced and checked van.
J.
Such a great deal for school holidays and for first time campervanners it really was a good experience. The van itself was user friendly and had everything we needed, even down to bedding towels and a potato peeler.
The check in service was super easy, the staff knew what they were doing and off we went.
The vehicle itself was easy to drive and manoeuvre (I had been worried about that - and emptying the toilet cassette) but I was a total professional by the end.
Loads of fun and highly recommended for seeing the country!
P.
We had a family trip with Britz Campervan. They have given first Britz campervan and it was not clean and very dirty. I asked them to change it to another one. Then they gave me Maui one. In side it is ok. Outside not clean. Any way we had fantastic trip. Van was comfortable.
In wellington I asked some help to Britz staff at top ten holiday park in Lower hut. They are very help ful.
I think Britz needs to upgrade their vans with new ones. Most of them are pretty old very well used.
Over all we are happy and enjoyed the trip.
Many thanks to the team.
A.
Fantastic experience from 1st phone call to pick up and drop off. 24/7 assistance which was used twice and went smoothly. A brilliant 2 week road trip in a very comfy well set up Motorhome.
Would recommend.
M.
Couldn't argue about the price but the mobile home was certainly a bit tighter around the kitchen area than I thought it would be. Vehicle itself was great and ran very well. Main concern was that the gas cylinder and valves were left open at time of pickup, which we didn't realise until the next day. Phoned Britz and advised them. The lady on the phone asked me "What do you want me to do about it?". Sorry but to get that sort of response to a major safety concern which could have endangered our lives wasn't acceptable. Was told it would be noted on our file. No real apology was given at that time but I expected a formal apology at drop off, which didn't happen either. A process review of pre-checks and customer issues definitely need a review. However, we'd still seriously consider using Britz again in the future.
A.
Hired for a week, excellent pick up and delivery service only issue was the gas tank wasn't full but was compensated for on return. Was clean and tidy all things worked after a bit of trial and error, comfortable, easy to drive and handled metal roads with ease even in the wet weather which we had our share of!!! The special "covid" price was the deal clincher and we would strongly recommend this deal is repeated over the coming months to encourage more kiwis to get on the road and experience our great backyard. No point in having hundreds or thousand's of these sitting idle in the yards!
D.
Pick up site was quite busy but amazed at how well it was set up considering the fire 2 days prior to our visit. Well done to all for getting things up and running so quickly. Camper was great. Enjoyed our trip very much and great price enabling Kiwis to explore their country. Would recommend organising a shuttle to ferry customers to and from airport as we found it awkward and frustrating (and expensive) to locate a taxi for 4 plus luggage
B.
It was great experience overall. Staff is very supportive at branch, calls were answered every time I called. 24/7 on the road service line is attended each time I tried and staff communicated patiently. I hired a Britz Frontier 6 berth, experience was great overall but there were couple of small issues that is why I gave 4 star.
Back seats did not stay in place, kept sliding out from the base so it was uncomfortable for family to sit during driving, bedding was good though
Fridge lock didn't work properly, door kept opening many times while on road and we had to pull over to close.
We hired 2x Vans, heater in one of the Vans didn't work (that was Maui)
What I like the most from them is their customer service over the phone and in person.
Mine was Britz, I liked that one
My mate drove Maui and he hated it, he said it was uncomfortable and he said mine was better (Britz), I am sure he will do his review.
Thank you...
D.
From the check-in and collection to drop-off we found the experience great. The first surprise was being upgraded from a Britz to Maui. The cleanliness of the van could not be faulted and the level of equipment available was excellent. Our first experience with a campervan was certainly a good one. Thanks.
A.
We hired a 6 berth camper for 9 days 27th-7 jan,
Then camper itself worked, but there were a few issues with some things. The pots were not clean and had baked on grime. The awning was dirty with mould on it.
The front left tire tread was quite worn down, the pick up and drop off was quite fast and well organised.
With it being peak season we paid $6500 for 11 days. A good way to see the country but expensive.
W.
Our family of 5 hired the 6 berth Maui River and had such an awesome time cruising around the North island, we had an issue with the water tank and Britz went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure our holiday was not interrupted or ruined by the unforseen set back.
This is the 2nd Camper we have hired out for a 2-3 Week period and loved it so much we are already thinking of booking in again. Everything you need, super fast pickup and drop-off and service was exceptional, can't wait to use the service again.
My only recommendation is that you definitely purchase the no liability pack as there were quite a few branches that were overgrown on some of the back roads which could scrape the sides or roof of the camper and the no liability pack will give you peace of mind =).
Thanks Britz =).
10/10.
K.
3 and a half stars
Side mirrors excellent, GPS easy to use. Easy to drive. 3 burner has cooker great.
CD player broke, waste water fitting broke off, wasn't explained properly about electricity cable and another camper showed me the knack, took a week to figure out hot water and some displays on steering wheel, knives all blunt. Laminated cards for water, toilet etc very helpful.
I suggest you take your own non slip mats (for bench not floor), pot scrubber. Also remember dish wash liquid, toilet paper, matches, thermo cup, scissors, grater (I could go on).
Holiday was great, lots of challenges along the way with campervan as mentioned above and GPS/directions, but together with my mobile phone I found my way through.
Good to look up sites for deals on activities and times. I was surprised that many places I visited in Taranaki were free.
Met a number of people along the way holidaying. Saw mountains, lakes, Bush, waterfalls, rivers, windy roads, sea /beaches, gardens. I had a daily plan but revised it each night for the next day. Need to add extra time for finding your way there and parking in suitable places.
Overall, I would hire a campervan again.
r.
Was great!!, a couple of minor issues but nothing we couldn't handle. We hired the 6 berth. Unsure of when we would ever get another opportunity to experience our own backyard at an affordable rate. Well done Britz and the team for getting kiwis out there the chance to explore this own backyard in a camper. My family thoroughly enjoyed every memory that was captured. Cant wait to try it again, this time longer and further :)
M.
We collected our BRAND NEW camper van from Auckland for two amazing weeks travelling around the North Island. The check in/collection experience was excellent (they even kept the office open beyond closing time as our flight was delayed) and we were on our way in no time.
The van was superb. perfectly equipped and so comfortable for our family of four. We were sad to hand it back at the end of our trip. Returning the van was an easy process, and all staff were helpful and friendly. Thank you Britz Auckland.
T.
We rented a Maui Venturer Plus for 3 nights. The pick up process was very easy. This van drove like a dream, it communicates with the road nicely, and cornering was a breeze. Only issue for me was the backing of such a long vehicle into the camping space, but even this got easier (more a reflection of my little experience with backing long vehicles). As we were two friends, we used the rear seating area as single beds, and my friends little dog sat on the safety-belted 3rd seat whilst travelling. The electrics and plumbing was easy to use, DHL's guide videos were very helpful in educating me regarding this process. Only small negative I would say was that dishwasher fluid and matches were not included as was specified on their website. We stopped for lunch to cook up bacon, and found that the ignition switch on the LPG cooker did not work, and then found there were no matches. :-( Luckily I was able to flag down another camper and get a lighter off them, else we would have gone hungry! I had a family drama back home which necessitated returning the camper a day early, and even that was easy which was amazing as I had to return it after 4pm (but a phone call was all it took for them to sort everything for me). So all in all, very happy with our experience, and hoping to get away again in the school holidays (if COVID plays ball)!
L.
Loved our second campervan trip using Maui 2+1, we got a free upgrade from the Britz we booked. The online booking service was great. Van came with everything listed and clean. Pick up and drop off process went smoothly. Found really nice freedom camping spots in the Hawkes bay too.
H.
My husband and I had a lovely time in our campervan. We were able to go wherever we wanted. It was especially lovely being able to take our two wee dogs with us. After hiring this campervan I wouldn't ever buy one as Britz took care of any problems. I particularly want to thank Shiyan and Jin who were so very helpful when we returned our van. We had spent ages trying to find our own car. They both went the extra mile and we were able to pick up our car within five minutes. thank you to you both.
W.
I would like to give 5 stars but unfortunately the van wasn't checked properly before we took it as it was missing one of the bed boards to make up the rear bed. Caused a fair bit of stress and resulted in a trip to Bunnings to purchase a piece of plywood. We arrived just in time for the event we were attending but had to excuse ourselves to get to Bunnings before it closed. Not what you expect, so very frustrating. Otherwise a goog clean camper.
M.
Generally ok, staff were friendly and the link with aeroparks was convenient. Camper drove well.
The camper itself was extremely noisy on the road due to oven trays, pots and pans and cupboards rattling. On pickup, the outside of the camper was unwashed and dirty. Our main complaint would be that the freshwater hose, that you use to fill the camper was stored in the bag with the waste water hose, which was still dripping with waste water 🤢 consequently we didn't drink the water from the camper.

Had an amazing experience/trip, largely because of our Britz camper van. I would recommend it to anyone, such a perfect way to see New Zealand.

A few pointers that may help with you when making a booking-
On top of the daily rate you pay for the van you need to add on “express checkout” or “full liability cover” which works out at around an extra $290. If you don’t add this you’re liable for any damage on the vehicle up to $5500 AND liable for “kilometres tax” (which our booking agent failed to mention) which works out at $7 per 100 km. If you’re planning to do a lot of km, express checkout is more that worth it as it also covers your km tax- it’s just a cost you may not have taken into account.
We collected the van after a 24 hour flight from the UK. We were told we had full coverage and express checkout, meaning that we were covered in case of an accident or damage to the vehicle and we could return the van with an empty fuel tank etc...I hadn’t paid for this option so I asked two members of staff at collection who said “yes you have full liability cover” then via email two days later. The email reply I received was poorly executed but clearly confirmed that I had the cover and express checkout.
When we took the van back 10 days later, empty of fuel etc, we we’re told that we didn’t have any excess cover or express checkout. I showed them the email from a member of their team stating that I had express checkout and was told “unless your can prove to me via credit card or bank statement that you’ve paid for this then you don’t have express checkout”. All was eventually resolved with us paying $285 express checkout.
The van we had was a beautiful nearly new Mitsubishi Sprinter, although we hired the basic “sleeps two” with outside cooking facilities i would strongly recommend that you upgrade to a “sleeps 3 “ for two people with indoor kitchen and bathroom. We were upgraded to one of these for the second part of our trip on the South Island and it made our journey so much better. The basic “sleeps two” van has no leisure battery, the fridge only works when you’re driving and no high roof but it was exactly what we ordered and more spacious than we thought it would be. Also another point to take into account is underneath the mattress gets wet every night through condensation. We took our mattress out every morning to air it- I think they may get a little grotty nearing the end of the season.
Overall I would use Britz again- they seem a little unorganised, lots of people had a big wait for their vehicle when arriving from the airport when you would really think that they’d have everything prepared, as these people had their booking for months previously; but we had a good trip and the van upgrade for the latter part of our Journey really made a massive difference.

Good experience at Post Covid cheap rates. Camper was older and a bit cramped for 2 people (4 berth...would be fine in the summer but in winter not much space in the cold). Pick up and drop off went smoothly.
Main annoyance was we left some bottles of spirits in a cupboard and they kindly put them aside for us but once we got home and checked one was missing presumed stolen. Totally our fault for forgetting to pack them but just a bit disappointed that it wasn't all returned.
Otherwise we had a nice time exploring NZ.
K.
Great customer service. Also a nice surprise to get a Maui instead of a Britz.
This was our 2nd time renting a camper and it was a much better experience. Our campervan had all the things it needed to have eg. tea towels, dish wash, wine glasses too!
It was such a good thing to take to the festival we went to..sure beats putting up a tent and lugging all the camping gear around.
We all had a great time and enjoyed our weekend camper life.

This was our first camper van holiday. We have four young boys and were travelling to NZ from the UK for a family wedding. We decided to do a three week road trip. Our experience with Britz was very positive, getting the vehicle was a clear process. Dropping it off was also very concise and actually was less stressful than the experiences I’ve had returning some rental cars. I’ve only rated four stars as our vehicle was pretty beaten up (it worked in our favour as we could drive without worry of marking a pristine vehicle but it was a little tired on the inside).
S.
Enjoyed the campervan trip, equipment satisfactory van good to drive and fuel efficient. Bed not thick enough. Watch out for road user charge at the end. Positive experience.
S.
The Experience was good, like any hire a car company this one had few issues too, but, they dealt with it really well.
1 Mistake I did was failed to report the issues I had, so don't do that mistake if you have any issues any time just call their 0800 number they provide and it should be sorted (were ever you are).
They have dealt with the issues well, over all experience was good it could be better and I am sure they have the team and attitude to improve.
L.
We've had a great experience with britz. Speedy pick up from the airport, prompt service at the depot and our van is sparkling clean! Thanks daisy for getting our holiday off to a great start :)
K.
We were so excited to get an amazing deal thanks to the great promotion for NZ's to enjoy a cheaper camper holiday this year. We'd never normally hire a camper as the prices don't compete with accommodation readily available. So this was a great way to try it out.
Our 4-day trip was lots of fun, with amazing sights and brilliant campgrounds to enjoy. The van was easy to drive, park and manouvre (for my hubby anyway) for its 7.2m size. It was perfect for seeing a lot in a short time and with no packing up to do aside from securing the cabin, it was easy to head from place to place.
With four of us there was enough room to do everything as long as we were very tidy and organised. The kids loved staying in the 'bunk bed' up top, and we were pleased that there was a cargo net to stop any rolling out in the night.
The toilet was handy for night times, though fearing the horrors of emptying it meant we opted to use the campground facilities most of the time. Didn't try the shower but it looked serviceable if a tight squeeze.
On the negative side, the check in for vans at the base was bedlam with very little visitor parking and nowhere to transfer belongings into the van. We parked up on the side of the road later to load our van and the longish wait meant we got stuck in a bit of traffic later on that we'd hoped to avoid.
The van wasn't particularly clean when we got it, it felt grimy in the driver's cab, on the surfaces and floor. Not like I expected during a global pandemic. I had assumed there would be a greater focus on cleaning and sanitising. The linen was all fresh and clean and we had plenty of cleaning gear provided but I was a bit disappointed to have to give the place an extra once over myself after we collected it.
The bed we slept on was uncomfortable and a good night's sleep was pretty much impossible as it was bitterly cold. We did travel in winter - so had brought plenty of thermals and blankets but still the freezing storage cavity beneath the main bed meant it was impossible to stay warm. The fan heater provided never worked which didn't help and the only option was to keep the main heater running which was pretty uncomfortable and sometimes changed temperature and blew cold air randomly! We all wore beanies and socks with extra layers and were glad of our additional blankets brought from home.
Overall it was a great adventure, the ability to move around without packing and repacking was cool, the van was well equipped and had everything we needed for a weekend away.
T.
We had an amazing 5 nights away, pick up was nice and easy, staff were friendly.
We couldn't get the camper help app to work so we had no hot water, didnt know what we were doing wrong but we just worked around that and had showers and washed dishes at the camp grounds.. So easy to drive, beds were comfortable, love the camper van life. Will definitely hire one again.
S.
Thanks to the friendly and efficient Britz team in Auckland. We had a great four day weekend away with our dog! It was brilliant to be able to take her with us on our adventure. The camper was spotless clean and was a dream to drive!

Absolutely loved my experience with Britz! I rented an electric campervan for a week and it was lovely. Really clean and comfortable and great to drive. No RUC and free charging at ChargeNet stations was a great incentive for me to try an EV and I would honestly recommend it. When I arrived at the rental centre I was told my van wouldn't be ready for an hour (which turned out to be more like 4) but I was refunded for half of this day's rental. I appreciated the time they took to check the van over from the previous rental, but this would have been really frustrating if I'd been on a shorter trip.
Overall the EV was great though! There are just a couple of downsides - you obviously have to do a bit more planning as you can only go 120kms on one charge and need to know where you can stop to charge up again (luckily there are great apps for this!). This wasn't really a problem for me as I don't want to drive much further than that in one go anyway and stopping to charge means you're forced to stop and take a break (albeit in some strange locations). The only other thing to note is that most of the ChargeNet stations are designed for cars and the cables don't always reach to the van's charging socket easily - if you can pull in sideways then you're ok but this can sometimes be tricky!
The other downside is that the electric stove only works if the EV is plugged into a 24v socket i.e on a campsite. It makes sense to stop at campsites overnight to charge the vehicle while you sleep, but not being able to use the stove on the go, as you would in a traditional camper, is a bit of a setback. I couldn't use freedom campsites because I'd have to plan ahead with my food, but then again the cost of a campsite per night to charge and use all your campervan facilities, plus campsite facilities, is much much less than the cost of fuelling up every day!!
I wasn't aware of these things until I picked up the camper so I'd say Britz could put out more detailed information about EVs, but given how much money I saved I wasn't too fussed about either of these things. I loved knowing that I could drive around beautiful NZ with no emissions! And the camper itself was really new and clearly well looked after.
Some other small pieces of feedback: a squeegee to use on the floor of the toilet/shower room would be helpful to keep it dry! Another blanket and a mattress protector for the bed would also be helpful - as a solo traveller I was pretty chilly and could feel the cold underneath the bed.
I also felt that the instructions I was given when I picked up my van were pretty brief - it was all pretty easy to figure out but more details would have been reassuring!
Overall, I loved my trip and my experience with Britz. It was such a smooth, easy process and the van was a dream to stay in. Would definitely recommend hiring an EV if you're not keen on covering super long distances and enjoy staying at campsites :)

We hired our van for 14 nights. We thought pick up was ok but once we got on the road we found we had items missing. We had a bed board missing which is vital to a comfortable trip 🤔 we also needed to use the jack but couldn't as the pole was missing. We let Britz know the problems and contiined our journey as we were travelling with friends who also had a Britz van so we cobbled together missing items (their power cable was missing).
We had a great trip round Northlands and stayed in some wonderful places, which we couldn't have done without being self contained.
When we dropped the van back the staff were very helpful and compensated us for the missing items. The 24 hour line were also very helpful and caring when we rang on our first night asking for help. So thank you to them.
Our advice is don't be hurried at pick up, double check you have everything before you leave including a valid reg as we had to go to a post office to get ours printed, the fuel tank is full and gray water is empty with taps closed as ours was open.
Z.
Awesome experience. Check in was quick and smooth, phone assistance was efficient and the drop was equally quick. Staff were friendly and helpful. Did have the van show the ABS warning twice otherwise the drive was pretty smooth. Bluetooth connectivity to entertainment devices would have been great.
Overall I was pretty satisfied with the hire.
M.
A wonderful holiday. Everything you need although somethings a bit tired and repairs needed. Would do again in a heartbeat now we know the set up. Great to get to off the beaten track. The Discovery was great for 2. 4 would be a squeeze. Receptionist at airport pickup and drop off delightful.
J.
We hired a two berth and we thoroughly enjoyed our break up north and then south of Auckland. Level 3 alert made getting the van back to Auckland interesting along with securing a flight back to the South Island but that had nothing to do with our Britz experience. We found the staff at pick up and drop off very good. Perhaps a little bit more information about the campervan before driving off would have been helpful. We are experienced caravanners so we worked out most things. I also think the van should have some cleaner in it as we have to leave it clean when we return. Also I am older so a short handle broom would be useful, the dust pan and broom meant I had to get on my knees to sweep the floor. Just saying. Overall the experience was awesome and we had a wonderful time. I am not one to let little things ruin a perfectly good holiday. Thanks Britz.
J.
This was my first Britz rental and fourth campervan rental in Aus/NZ. My wife and I rented a 4 berth high top for 3 weeks on the North Island. It worked perfect for a couple, but could be a little tight for more adults. The Auckland Depot was very nice and all transactions went smoothly. The vehicle had 74,000 K, was clean and mechanically sound, with good tight steering. The included kitchen and bedding amenities were very good. We could have gone with a cheaper van at another company, but I think that Britz is good value.
B.
Van was good, very functional for our needs, easy to drive, good on fuel and maintaining the shower, the black and grey water was no problem. However collection took well over three hours with the van not being ready. Issues with water leak, GPS not working after 1 week, water and grey water sensors did not work, grey water tank squeaked really badly when tank fully empty and a broken table did leave a bit of a sour taste in our mouth. Mattresses were very firm and after 22 days were causing some significant soreness.
C.
Really enjoyed my first experience of campervanning at the age of 57, using a Maui 2 berth. It was invaluable having the video guidance on the THL app as well as the briefing, and also the 24/7 roadside backup. It felt spacious and comfortable inside, everything worked well and the van itself was easy to ride especially with a good reversing camera. Check in and check out were both easy and staff were friendly. Would definitely like to repeat the experience.

Family of 5 (2 adults, 2 teens, 1 toddler)Hired a 6 berth vista and traveled from auckland around the east coast to taupo then back to auckland. Would say it was pretty average. It was quite nice to drive, nav was handy but a bit outdated, comfy in the front but a heck of a ride in the back. Felt sorry for the kids sitting In the back, was super noisy and rocked side to side quite a bit. Kitchen was pretty good as was storage but beds were made for short people and not very comfy. I did find a pair of baby pacifiers in one of the cupboards which made me question cleanliness? Also why would they ask for linen to be folded if it was just to be washed? Dunno. Overall if I dont think terribly much about if they actually clean the camper before hiring to someone else, the uncomfortable beds and the noisy ride in the back it was good. If I hadn't of got a super discounted price and had to pay the full price I wouldn't hire. Was our first camper hire by the way.
J.
Started a bit rough. Vacation delayed 1 day due to someone putting petrol in the diesel engine of the rv we were supposed to get so we had to wait for another. Ended up getting some credit, and an upgraded rv. Felt it was fair. Had a wonderful vacation. Would rent again.
M.
The campervan experience was a great idea. The van was roomie for both of us. There was everything we needed in the camper apart from a TV, didnt reliese that we could only use DVDs or USB sticks. The vehicle was very easy to drive and very ecomoical on the diesel. Would very highly recommend doing this trip and hiring a van and exploring NZ.
C.
We had a great trip around Northland for 2 weeks and the campervan performed well. The preparation of the campervan could however have been better. We found out after we left Auckland that the power cable was missing (we bought one on the road for $230 and were refunded for this on our return); two of the three gas rings on the stove didn't work; both radios didn't work and the fridge didn't operate on battery (it switched on and off all night but didn't cool down).
The introductory briefing when we picked up the campervan was limited to pointing out the external features and any existing damage for insurance purposes. The internal operation of the vehicle was not covered.
We're glad to have had the opportunity to see more of New Zealand and doing this by campervan was a great way to go. If a little more time had been spent in the preparation of the campervan and the introductory briefing it would have been 5 stars.
C.
The campervan served us well on our 8 day trip. We had a very compact 3 berth van, just perfect for the two of us. Highly recommended. Thank you Britz
J.
Great experience and value for money.
Our motorhome was excellent and almost new.
It would be 5 star if a closer carpark was available. Dropping the car in a car park at 1.5km away and walking to the branch between all the roadworks and the traffic was quite a nightmare.
S.
Huge delays collecting the van in Auckland. We had to wait outside on camping chairs for over an hour We had booked and paid (a lot of money) to go white water rafting later that day but we nearly couldn't do it because we arrived so late due to the 90 minutes we spent waiting. This is really unacceptable. Whilst I appreciate that the Auckland airport fire means that they are in temporary accommodation and the vans are returned to a different location - Maui were in the same position and yet they ran like clockwork. At busy times there just aren't enough staff on and it is completely disorganised. The van was good but missing a lot of the plates and bowls we needed. Wasn't exactly cleaned to the highest standard when we collected it and we were given little/no instructions as to how to operate anything. Van was fine but clearly in need of a service. Thankfully we got it on a deal as if we had paid a lot of money for this, we'd be very disappointed.
G.
Staff were really helpful at both pick up and drop off. Had a minor issue with some of the cooking equipment which was dealt with quickly. Other than that, the Van drove well and was reliable so we had a great three weeks driving both Islands which left us with some fantastic memories.
B.
Pick up and drop off was easy and didn't take too long. The campervan went very well, plenty of power on the hills. We did 1250 km and used 123 ltrs of diesel, about 10 km per ltr. Our northland trip was great. Cheers
J.
Amazing first time camper experience. From pick up to drop off - all hassle free.
A packet of clothes pegs, potato masher and an extra teatowel would have helped, but everything supplied is so convenient.
L.
Pick up was quick, an inspection was done on outside of vehicle. We asked if they wanted us to look inside too but said it wasn’t necessary. However we took photos of inside as there were a couple of marks etc that we didn’t want to fall back on us. Also, I didn’t think the cleanliness was up to par, considering the times we are in at the moment but just my opinion and personally, it went back cleaner than when we got it. (Not OCD at all lol) THL roadside assistance was shocking (rang to ask about a message that was displayed on dashboard) 45min later!! Bit long! Minor issue but I wasn’t to know that! At drop off there was no inspection done on inside or outside which I found odd. But overall we thoroughly enjoyed our time in the camper and would absolutely do it again! It was awesome to see other kiwis cruising with their families!
I.
Our Britz voyager camper van became our home for 28 days exploring New Zealand’s north and south islands beautiful, stunning and challenging scenery and topography. Our camper homed and cosseted us throughout keeping us warm and dry through everything that the elements could and did present us with. Being diesel fuelled with an automatic gearbox it was both easy and economic to drive with plenty of power when required to negotiate often hilly terrain . In all a very happy experience which we would thoroughly recommend. The service and attention to detail in the Britz Organisation is second to none .
T.
Easy process to pick up and drop off. We hired the 6 berth Maui Motorhome for 3 adults over 7 days. Was the ideal size for 3.Having 6 adults would be too cramped in our opinion. Vehicle was easy to to drive, you just have to remember it's length (7.7mtrs) and height (3.25mtrs) when travelling, particularly where there are bridge height restrictions in some towns. The only minor negative was the vehicle rattles alot inside, particularly on rough roads.
L.
It was a great way to see our beautiful country. The Camper facilities were of a very high standard, everything was clean and in good working order. Check In and Return was straightforward and efficient. For the company to offer such a great deal that encouraged New Zealanders to take a holiday in their own back yard, was exceptional - thank you for making it possible and affordable.
m.
The Auckland staff were pleasant, knowledgable and professional but from arriving for the van at the time specified, to actually driving away, took nearly 2.5 hours. This was too long!
Had a number of issues during the trip with the van, but these were quickly resolved via the OnRoadCareNZ2 team. They arranged for me to pick up replacements from Britz at Queenstown. Impressed by their excellent response!
The Automatic gearbox on our almost new LDV campervan, was not very refined. It had an inconsistent shift pattern by intermittantly hanging on to lower gears far too long. We overcame this by manually overriding when needed!
Overall, my Britz camper van rental was good and I could not fault the helpful friendly Britz staff. I would not hesitate to hire another vehicle from Britz to travel again through this amazingly beautiful country.
S.
The campervan (155 000km) was comfortable, well equiped and designed. However, the steering wheel went to the left by itself, the wipers were out of order (even if the Britz customer service was very helpful to change them in a garage on our way) and the traction control stopped working during our trip... So our experience with Britz was good but the vehicle had some problems, for the high price we paid ! Thanks anyway :-)
S.
Now we're home I'd love to speak warmly about our experience with Britz, but...
Our Frontier 6 berth looked every day of its "maximum 5 years old". My wife nearly fell out onto the road when getting out for the first time, assuming the passenger step was sturdy. Turns out it was broken and flexed quite a lot.
The microwave door flung open early on in our 10 day adventure, followed shortly by the glass turntable. It's quite fortunate that no one was leaning under it at that moment!
The fridge door had no latch and continually flung open. We did lose a meal or two a a result.
The brief verbal instructions on setting up the rear bed were quite inaccurate and resulted in 9 of the 10 nights being more uncomfortable than need be. The last night we accidentally figured it out for ourselves.
The pressure of being at the van pickup venue by 16:30 was ludicrous given we landed after 16:00 from O.S. I was told at time of booking this would be fine, but subsequent emails all advised that 16:30 was the latest, resulting in an anxious taxi fare from airport to van pickup instead of waiting for courtesy shuttle.
The satnav database was at least 4 years old. We discovered this when looking for Top 10 caravan parks that in reality no longer existed or had changed ownership 4 years ago!
On a positive, the engine ran fine and never skipped a beat.
E.
Staff member Daisy is very professional and friendly. Awesome experience!
ع.
I had the pleasure of travelling in Britz's mobile car. All the friendly staff were trying to help me as it was the first time I rented a car of this type. They gave me abundant offers, including chairs and a table, also a navigation device. The most important thing when returning the vehicle did not take more than 5 minutes. I recommend dealing with this company.
B.
I appreciate that times are tough without tourists but the standard of our van was very poor. There were no towels or connectors supplied with the hose. The fridge door flu open as we rattled along. And with full insurance we paid $150 per day for the van and with camping charges this was more expensive and less comfortable than motel accomodation. We have hired campavans in NZ and overseas but this was the poorest condition we have ever experienced. Come on THL set a reasonable standard if you want repeat business.
K.
Customer service was great, as was roadside assistance when we needed it. The campervan itself wasn't well designed and the bed was so uncomfortable that we bought an air mattress to survive the month long rental. A fun way to experience New Zealand.
S.
We had the fortunate delight of travelling through New Zealand for six weeks in a Camper-van hired from Britz.
There are a couple of things which they need to look at on pickup. We waited 2 1/2 hours to get everything sorted and collect our van. Had we just arrived, this would have been very annoying, fortunately we had two nights in a hotel prior. They really need to sort out distribution, they did apologise and gave us a Bottle of wine!
Couple of other things. We asked for levelling wedges (been standard in other vans we have hired) we were told they were not necessary, I can assure you after six weeks they are, don’t leave the depot without them.
Also the fresh water hose needs the full connection to a screw tap. Without the stew connector which the push fitting goes on, a number of sites do not have the push connector fitted to the tap, so you spend time trying to find a fresh water hose you can use!
Other than this after leaving the Auckland Depot we had an issue with a key for the gas and fresh water cabinet, fortunately this happened as we were passing Auckland and we called in and had it fixed, after phoning the help line and agreeing this action.
There were a number of issues with the van, none of which warranted immediate action. However they were reported on the return, and to their credit we were compensated for the problems.
Be aware. The fridge is great on hook up, but very poor when on battery, and will defrost and leak all over. I believe this was a fault and not normal.
The vans power system would shut down occasionally when not hooked up to power, you had to start the engine for it to reconnect.
The drop off process is excellent and our agent very helpful both in checking us out and compensation for the issues.
Things to make sure you have:
Levelling wedges
Step for older vans that do not have them built in, getting in and out can be a problem without
Oven gloves
Grill handle
Chopping board
Other than this, they are a good solid company at a reasonable price.

I booked our week away in a campervan as a surprised for my husband's birthday. Neither of us had traveled by camper van before and really enjoyed the freedom it afforded us. We definately weren't hardy campers, we ate out most nights and stayed at campgrounds with good amenities.
The campervan was clean and tidy. It had most of the things you would need. The pre holiday info sent by britz was very helpful, especially the bit about only packing what you need.
We would definitely consider a camperan holiday in a Britz van the future.
J.
Britz have been awesome both times we decided to go on campervan trips around the north. Just finished a 12 day stint last week and the team were clear, friendly and made the process a breeze. Can't wait for our next trip together.
R.
Had a wonderful time traveling around lower Norh Island in our 4 berth campervan. It had everything we required and was easy to operate. We had a slight hiccup when picking up the van as there were 4 large chips on the window screen which when we brought back the van (just drove to drop our car off at ParknFly) they offer a replacement van or wait for the screen to be replaced, we opted for the new van which took about 30mins to be ready. Thanks Britz hope to travel with you again.
A.
Check in and return was a well oiled machine despite the number of vehicles going in and out. We had a spectacular trip around NZ - I highly recommend campervaning to anyone and everyone. Even cleaning the waste was easy!
O.
We had an amazing holiday in our campervan! I would have happily given five stars if not for a few minor issues.
The van itself had quite a few dings and dents, and the tyres were only about 40-50% tread. The mattresses for the beds were unbelievably uncomfortable but we made do with it all.
We also had a big blow to our holiday after our flight was delayed from Brisbane to Auckland by nearly two hours. Britz had no sympathy and would not stay open a minute past 4:30pm apparently. We left Auckland airport at just after 4:20pm and could have got to Britz by about 4:50pm. It was frustrating standing around trying to find local accommodation for the night.
I am aware it's unfortunate about the flight delays however, I was hoping Britz may help us out since we'd paid well in advance. I don't think asking for half an hour was being unreasonable.
R.
Great little holiday doing a circuit around the broader Waikato region. As it was mid winter, most destinations were motor camps with hot pools, which was ideal for our group (2 adults & 2 grandchildren). 4 berth campervan was easy to drive and very suitable for our needs. Had one issue with the gas water heating system but this was fixed by service agents in Taupo several days into our trip. Pickup & return processing staff, and service agents all very friendly and helpful. Overall, highly recommended for a travelling holiday.
B.
Well what can we say but Wow, from the minute we picked up the van at Auckland to dropping the van off in Christchurch it was all amazing.
The motorhome was extremely easy to drive too.
Great customer service from start to finish.
Comfortable drive, spacious & everything needed to make it a great ride.
I have to say that diesel is very reasonable in New Zealand, as we travelled both islands we thought we would spend a lot more than we did.
The drop off was so easy & quickly done too.
S.
We had quite a wait for our van which seemed unnecessary .After starting out our sat navigation stopped working as it wasn't charging it seems they all did that and we returned just as they were locking up and were given another charger and mount. When we got to our campground the hot water would not work apparently all the summer hire vans had the same problem, first night off plane cold shower ....we had to wait until the depot opened again the following morning to get the electronic boiler reset which gave us a tight schedule to our first booked activities.
After a rocky start when going to refill water the supplied hose was missing the part that screws to the tap, I had to buy one, as well as the waste pipe connection being wrong, the van has chemlock the supplied pipe some sort of bayonet so this leaked everytime we dumped and had to be held in position.
But otherwise a fantastic van to drive although it could use a second camera on rear as the one on it was for close reversing only .
Very economical and comfortable.
All issues were explained to rep when dropping off so could be rectified for next holidaying lot.
I would suggest you ensure hot water works before leaving depot other than that happy holidaying.
r.
I spent 2 weeks driving in New Zealand in a Britz Discovery 4 berth home. Checking in was smooth and easy. Even when we had a problem the help line was amazing. They forgot to include the power cable and we were advised to buy one and keep receipt and were refunded for it. The motorhome has everything you need and was a fantastic way to spend time with family. This was the first time with in-laws and the first few days is getting used to being in a small space but by the end of two weeks you are really comfortable in the van. We all enjoyed the experience and will consider a bigger 6 berth next time. Thank You Britz.
S.
Pick up was easy and was a good start to our holiday our camper was amazingly clean and well appointed. Paid extra for quick drop off, which was just over £200 but was well worth it. Drove in, handed over the keys and got transfer from cheistchurch to the airport, amazing.. x

we Hired a voyager, (lwb Toyota hiace) the smallest of the three on offer but still 5.4 Mtrs long and easily big enough for two of us. The van is well equipped and although my initial experience of the bed was discomfort, after the 1st night I found it surprisingly good, in fact it kept a regular back ache at bay. While the camper was well equipped we would advise anyone renting one to ensure the agent fully explains every aspect of its equipment and facilities as we felt uninformed and subsequently completely missed some of its features. My daily driver in the U.K. is a 2019 transit custom and a Porsche 987 for pleasure, both give me back ache after any more than an hour as does any vehicle I can remember: We covered 3500km in 18 days in the Toyota and not once did the dreaded ache arise. The driving seat and position are fantastic for long journeys. Swerve the offered 400 dollar easy drop off option unless your planning on more than around 6000km as it’s not worth the money. The tank to fill cost no more than 70 dollars max Would definitely rent one again

We had an amazing experience, the crew was really attentive and helpful to manage changes due to COVID. For returning the vehicle David and Daisy gave us an excellent attention making our way back home smoother.

When booking the Motorhome, Joedy the sales rep was excellent and went well beyond to ensure we were happy - 5 stars for Joedy! Picking up the Motorhome in Auckland was a slow process involving a one hour wait - and we had paid extra for a bank holiday pick up. The motorhome had a dashboard fault on the brake light and the battery was not charged fully as we found out on our first night! Other than that, hiring a Britz Discovery proved a great choice with its panoramic window at the back. It was very rattly, but the rattles were to some extent subdued by putting padding in all of the cupboard doors. The Mercedes spec vehicle was excellent and we fully enjoyed our motorhome experience and also that (at a cost) we were able to reduce our excess to $0, so no extra costs or risks.

We rented a camper van for our vacation, driving from Auckland to Queenstown. The only trouble we had was that it was such a good idea that many others were as well, so getting our van took about 3 hours. It was easy to drive, easy to use all the amenities, and was clean and comfortable.
N.
Was an awesome experience, the camper van was fully equipped with everything, you really need to watch the video so you understand how to use everything properly. I'm glad I did. Just need to check tyres pressure on your journey, I found the van was sliding a bit going down hills and sharp corners. Hence is why I had added air into the tyres. Other then that everything was all good, make use of the top ten camping grounds, they are absolutely good, has dumping station, also showers and a place to wash and dry your clothes😊😊😊👍👍👍

Arriving at THL In Auckland was chaotic to say the least, there seemed to be no order at all with clients waiting varying lengths of time to be seen by a members of staff. However, after about an hour of utter chaos we were seen by a lovely lady who went through all the details of our hire van showed us round and helped to get us on the road answering all our questions which made the handover feel comfortable. We were also given a bottle of New Zealand wine to sample and we left on our month long trip feeling very optimistic.
The next day we realised the heating in the drivers cab had broken and after a phone call we were quickly booked into a service centre in the Bay of Islands where we were advised they could not repair it and we’d have to take the van back to Auckland for a repair. Auckland however treated us like we were moaning for nothing and the best they would offer was a repair that could take anything from half to two days. We asked for a replacement van but were told that was not possible so we made the decision not to risk losing up to 2 days of our trip and potentially have to find accommodation whilst the repair was completed. So we continued with our itinerary. The days were very cold but at least we had an electric fan heater to use once we were set up.
On arrival in the South Island we decided to contact Christchurch HO for their advice and after a trip to a mechanic in Kaikoura, who was great, and then calling in to Christchurch HO the problem was fixed within 40 mins and we were on our way. At the end of our trip returning the van to Christchurch couldn’t have been easier and we were offered a refund for our earlier troubles. So overall our experience was very good.

Good quick service, however the service person was in a hurry to get us out of the way so as to move onto the next customer. (yes they were busy) but I believe they should run through all Campervan operating procedures with the client before letting them drive away. doing this will also ensure that what should be in the van is actually in the van, i.e no matches to light the barbeque, or did not inform us that the TV did not actually work for television purposes only DVD or streaming.
The campervan experience was fantastic, using the van made things so easy for us to go places and do things with no hassle. We had a great holiday thanks to the decision to campervan our way around.
Thank you Maui

Our first road trip in a motor home but we're used to tents. Driving in New Zealand, being from the UK, was not much different, single lane bridges on the west coast being the exception. First time driving an automatic too, took a little while to acclimatise to that working with the cruise control especially uphill with bends. We did north island to south, ferry was easy. MH was easy to manoeuvre and once in it driving was not an issue, size didn't matter, although when driving along the fittings did rattle and bang a bit( t towels helped). I came having programmed my expectations to drive at 50mph (80kmh) and generally did that only rarely having to pull over for a queue behind me. New Zealand roads are different to the UK so allow more time than the GPS says.
We both found the van well equipped and comfortable, the wind down bed was comfortable and saved making up one each night as we hoped. We stopped at camp site each night with electric hookup. The campsites came with many facilities we didn't expect, so we rarely used the hob and not the grill or shower.
The MH gaves us a bit more freedom to route our day, and allowed us to reroute to avoid the worst weather.
Dependant on your MH choice you may not have much storage, two rof us in a four berth meant we managed leaving some stuff in the suitcase, and laundry rooms helped, brought too much clothing.
All in all very enjoyable.........

We booked a rental campervan soon after the THL lower cost deals came out. We found the booking process through the website easy to navigate and as we got closer to our departure date, THL communicated with us on a regular basis. Our original plan was to hire a van for 5 weeks between the school holidays to explore Northland and the Coromandel. Pick up was simple and a HTL representive spent 30 minutes with us explaining all the vans functions. The van was well presented, clean and tidy. The 5 weeks went by without any problems and overall we had a fabulous time and a great campervan experience.
Dropping the van off was a simple, efficient process even after the unfortunate fire HTL experienced. We highly recommend hiring a campervan from HTL and would also encourage anyone who wishes to explore New Zealand Great Back Yard to get out there and do it. Barry.

Very helpful. Dog friendly. Great way to travel.

My husband and I have just finished a two week road trip around the north island. It was am amazing two weeks, our camper was great, it had everything we needed and drove like a dream. Nothing beats a kiwi road trip, getting lost, exploring and relaxing. I think we have the big now 😍
R.
We had a quick trip around the East Coast (Pacific Coast Highway) via SH38 Lake Waikaremoana which was mostly gravel road so that shaked and rattled the campervan but we survived and still enjoyed it. It was a amazing experience and we will no doubt do it again but in a 6 berth next as the 4 bert was to small. The van no doubt served our purpose and that was all we could have asked for so great stuff.
R.
Enjoyable but much more expensive that previous rental of camper. I possibly could have had more eduction about the idiosyncrasies of the vehicle . The second battery was inadequate due to it requiring up to 3 hrs travel to charge to run refrigerator overnight, rooftop solar panel would fix this, having it replaced removed one day of our holiday. The mattress became to compressed and uncomfortable after a few nights( I’m 90kg) and finally bean bags not used and there was no where to store food.
Otherwise, the van ran well and we enjoyed our holiday.

Everything was quiet smooth. However if you travel during peek periods please be advised that the pick-up process takes longer than you can expect. The campervan was nice and easy to drive and comfortable to stay in both in freedom camping sights and in regular camping areas. Britz could be a little better with the information as they missed to inform us how to refill the flushing water to the toilet but it was sorted out after a phone call and unfortunately we did not get any hot water in our campervan during our stay due to a supposed central issue.
R.
BRITZ LET YOU TAKE DOGS FOR A SMALL FEE!
Get the full insurance pack - it meant when we ran in to any problem they just fixed it at no charge to us & we could drop the keys & go on return.
We unfortunately got caught as levels were changing & we weren’t sure what to do. Britz online chat reassured us, emails kept us up to date and we felt safe to go.
The van was clean, in good knick and easy to drive. Make sure you watch the videos on the YouTube channel or you won’t know how to use anything.
Fantastic service, should the prices stay accessible we will be a repeat customer.
T.
Our second time and only a few weeks apart lol. We absolutely enjoyed our campervan experience and are so happy to see that our family and friends have jumped on the campervan experience after seeing all our social media photos. Unfortunately for us I couldn't book it for a third time as they were all booked out for the dates we wanted 😆😆. Thank you Britz Campervans for making our holiday extra special and comfortable for us ❤️ Highly recommended for all travelling families😊
R.
I booked a 4 berth Discovery ex. Auckland. Intended to head north but weather up there was wet so beauty of a camper we could chase the sun. Ended up exploring Taupo & Rotorua.
I have Cerebral Palsy & never drove a camper before. It was easier than I expected. Vehicle really well maintained and lovely to drive.
We had a 4 berth for me & my 3 year old for 6 days. The size was perfect & am do glad I upsized.
Would highly recommend tiki touring around in a camper. So much fun & excellent customer service
C.
A long wait to get the van. Much shorter time to drop off. Our van was exactly what we wanted and needed. Easy to handle. Britz were great. Had a blown light bulb. Went to a supplier, had it fitted, the bill went directly to Britz. Make sure you pay your tunnel bills on line in time.
L.
Really fantastic service. And we don't say that very often. Nothing was an issue, the staff were always helpful, and the service was professional and organized. We got one of the campervan deals, and expected to get an older van. We didn't. We had a great time on our trip and would definitely recommend.
l.
from the day we picked up our camper to the day we dropped it off, great service from all who helped us , couldn't find any faults and we were blown away by the camper features and space!!we even got an upgrade at no extra cost!! def do it again, the team at Maui /Britz you guys rock!! even better we did camped with our 6month bubbah!
I.
Greatg holiday in a well serviced vehicle. The vehicle manual in the van was for a sprinter. Our van was an explorer! The vehicle never missed a beat all trip. The vehicle inspector took me over the outside of the m/home but neglected to go over the interior with me. Glad that there were no faults evident inside or outside that we could have been blamed for causing. The outside was checked on returning the vehicle to Puhinui Rd. without any problems evident. We will be only too pleased to use the discount code that you have very kindly offered us in the near future for another adventure. Thank you
G.
Rented an RV for 14 days! Staff very friendly, had a minor issue on the road but the 0800 number was very prompt and helpful.
RV was clean and spotless.
my wife and didnt find any fault with the vehicle or staff.
If I can give more than 5 star I will.
Thanks guys!
A.
Great little camper we hired! Good experience overall, only things that were a miss but Britz quickly apologised and made up for it was that the matches were missing, the water line for the tap was a bit mouldy and the GPS cable didn’t work.
But overall good experience and great holiday! Hopefully britz can make it a 5 star next time
K.
We had a seemless pickup and drop off, very efficient team!
We hired a 2 Berth Venturer which went like a dream, great for getting to some awesome off road destinations. Comfortable for 2 people, plenty of storage space.
P.
Collecting the van was little problematic as it was a busy morning, and it didn't look like enough staff had been brought in to handle the numbers (and let's face it, they know how many are being hired out on any given day). So, a rather long wait, made worse by the fact the coffee machine was broken and while the staff did attempt to fix, it couldn't be sorted out. And made even worse when our van was brought out and the fuel gauge was found to be faulty meaning further delays while this was sorted out. I find it hard to believe that this wasn't known when the van was returned from the previous use and flagged up for repair at that point. This was our third van pick up experience and the worst by some margin. So, allow plenty of time for the process - we departed about three hours after arriving at the depot.
Of course all these niggles vanish the minute you're on the road and had no real impact on the great trip that followed and the van performed flawlessly and met all our expectations.
Returning the van was the complete opposite of pick up - fast, efficient and trouble free. No hassle over a stone chip in the windscreen that had been caused by a passing truck on the previous evening and I was glad that we had purchased the additional insurance cover.
Will we be doing it again ? Of course !
J.
The van was good, but for the money we spent it really needed to be great. We travelled in Feb and left our booking a little late which is why our rental was so expensive, but when you are paying over $500 a night with every extra they can sell you, then you expect everything to work and everything to be included. It is the details that let this down.
A USB not working on the dash may seem trivial, but when you are needing to constantly charge phones and devices while driving this is a hassle.
A navigation system that is a little outdated and works fine most of the time seems like it would be okay. Until it costs you a half a day travelling to the wrong place costing valuable holiday time, energy, and petrol.
Missing sleeping pillows. For a trip going for about 20 days I find this to be unacceptable. It was promised in the 'all inclusive pack' but was not there. How can this be missed? This is more than an inconvenience and isn't really good enough, no matter how much you are paying.
Missing pegs. Sounds trivial, right? Wrong. This is a real inconvenience as there are a lot of things to buy and think of when travelling in a foreign country and camping for the first time. Another little detail like this can leave you with wet clothes and a big problem that effects you for days of your trip. Why am even having to think about this. Who isn't doing their job to check for these details!?! It is infuriating.
Broken awning pole. Lucky my husband is 6'4" and could pull it down and put it back up by hand. Not easy for him, and meant the pole was constantly falling over as we drove. Another small detail that becomes a bit boring when travelling through the country.
We had a great trip. The van performed well. Had a great engine, and the mechanisms in the van were all in good nick. but, this is merely the expectation of what has been described. Overall, the service and the product given to us for the price paid was underwhelming and as first time campervan users, makes us doubt if we would want to do it again. Would we use your service again, only if we had to!
Sorry folks, but 4 stars is probably being too generous. 3 stars for giving us a van that worked and was safe and clean.
S.
Pick up at Auckland was long winded and chaotic, took 3 and half hours to get our van, even after a collection time on Britz website.
Everyone seemed to be having the same problem.
The campervan can experience was however very enjoyable.
Great roads to drive on , never stayed on a bad site , all clean and good services.
Lovely , stunning, clean country, well done New Zealand !
Van return into Christchurch however was straight forward, thanks
C.
Picked up our Campervan for our Honeymoon in Auckland. It was so easy!!! Arrived, small amount of paperwork shown our van and told to have a great adventure. Tom-Tom provides so you will never get lost. The van is comfortable and has everything that you need. Took our van on a adventure of a lifetime and dropped her off in Christchurch again very easy and lively friendly staff. So far we have campervanned Australia and now New Zealand. Where is next!!!! Thank you Britz great job.
P.
Awesome experience renting through Britz. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Alison went the extra mile and provided outstanding customer service. Will definitely book again.
c.
The motorhome we hired from Britz helped make our 3 week tour a truly wonderful experience. We had everything we needed in the motorhome and we really liked the additional external gas hob which we used every day. It was also very pleasant to drive.
m.
Fantastic experience. Vehicle worked flawlessly and did everything we needed it to do. Was pleasantly surprised how long we could go off grid with it for. Fuel economy was impressive .Will rent again, Thanks Team.
S.
A place located very conveniently nearby Auckland Airport. There is a bus transfer from there which makes the whole process much more friendly. We arrived within a High peak season and the office was full, but stuff was very friendly and polite. The campervan had a pretty low mileage and we had no problems with it within a whole trip.
S.
We hired a Britt camper for 6 days and toured the winterless Northland of NZ. Whole experience and service was fantastic from THL even after the fire they suffered. Highly recommend seeing the country in one of these.
C.
Had some initial problems with the Britz 6 berth camper but after contacting roadside assist with Britz, we returned camper to RV super centre and they gave us a replacement vehicle so came through in the end. Would still hire again.
L.
We rented a 6 Berth - Frontier at the Motorhome Republic.com for 31 days traveling in New Zealand. The renting process was easy and the service was fine. One thing to note is that the size of the RV is not big enough for 6 adults. We are 5 adults in the family, so it was OK.
T.
Camper a little worn out. Recieved it with a loose housebattery connection and a partial broken aircon. This gave serious initial problems the first nights until this was solved.
When you only have 20 days in NZ im sorry to have to spend time at autoservice for the RV.
Othervise Brits had a good service at end station and nice conversation when we had to solve the problems.
The guy who introduced the RV gave several wrong informations (water and diesel capacity etc).

Family of Four,
We had a great Trip across NZ with BRITZ RV. We drove over 2500 KM across the country in a cozy and comfortable Camper-van provided by BRITZ.
My only complaint is the incredibly high price of the rental which doesn't include fuel and a road tax you have to pay at the end of your trip!
BE CAREFUL! you will be charged a road tax based on the amount of KM you drive. that and campsites can range anywhere from 30 to 70 dollars a night (for powered lots). It was a great experience but I caution you to research the cost purely on the high price of the rental and the additional costs. Just remember when you book that the price does not include:
1. camping fees Approx 10 nights = $500 Not including 2 hotel stays
before and after;
3. fuel Approx 2500 Km = $600;
4. road tax Approx 2500 km = about $200;
5. food and drink Approx 500;
If I could go back knowing what I know now, I'd simply rent a care and buy a tent! Every campsite across the country is very accommodating with shared facilities (showers, rest rooms, shared kitchens and laundry rooms).
That said: I can't deny how incredible it was traveling the country with the RV. If you have the money DO IT. BRITZ was easy, friendly and very convenient. Check in and out was super quick - almost too quick. Fortunately the RV had a built in digital help / guide if you had any questions it was there to help with well written explanations and even how to videos. Also all the staff were friendly and knowledgeable with us.
From our first night to the last we had good sleep on the comfortable beds. the RV had AC and Heat which was nice during some of the cold and warmer nights. The refrigerator was a good size to store a lot food and drink for two adults and two young children. Not to mention the storage space all over the RV.
PRO TIP: If you are going to rent an RV travel only with BAGS (duffel, ruck back pack) not suit cases / luggage. there's no storage for big bulky suit cases.
That's as honest and unbiased I can be.
All in all I can't complain too much about the price because I truely do not regret it at all. I had the trip of a life time thanks to BRITZ. In fact my kids cried their little eyes out when we returned the RV because they did not want the trip to end. Now I think I may have to buy one one day. So thank you to the BRITZ company and employees for giving us such a good vacation!
Also a note to the Britz company: thanks for the coupon you E-mailed but trips like these typically only happen once every 2 or 3 years with most people so the 12 month expiry date is a bit rushed. Needless to say it won't be used but the thought was nice.
S.
Great experience. Easy transfer from airport to location and vice versa. Quick comprehensive hand over on collecting vehicle, easy and quick return. Best way to see NZ. Having the WiFi helped also, bonus we hadn’t planned. Everything we needed for 3 week trip.
V.
My family and i had a great time in the 6 berth campervan we hired. It was an excellent way to see the top half of the North Island. We were fortunate to get a great deal which made it really affordable for us. The campervan was in excellent condition.
A.
The adverts for Brita show a new campervan but the reality was a bit different, the van had 260 000k and showed with rattles galore, the engine was good and pulled well.
It also leaked in the torrential rain of fox glacier.
There was no room to store the duvet so it remained on the back seat and making the bed became a chore.
The fridge would not switch off.
Everything needed was included
And was well thought out.
The staff member at aukland was lovely and very thorough.
Overall average.
We did 2500k with no other problems or faults
T.
Really enjoyed our campervan which was a 6 berth! Perfect for a easy family holiday without the stress. The only thing that was a real struggle was the power cords, especially the kitchen one which was in such an awkward place the jug could barely fit on the bench while being plugged in. We didn’t think of bringing extension cords which would of been handy. But was very pleased!
Did have to wait for over an hour to be seen and organise the campa so definitely be aware of the wait which we didn’t quote expect as we had booked in a time so thought the process would be faster.
K.
This review is solely on the customer service of Britz. On arrival, the greeting or lack there of seemed like i was an inconvenience to be served at front counter. Then when i was called, ready to collect my rental i walked out side excited, but to be shown a van that had cobwebs all over the front grill, mirrors. Everything felt dirty, blankets stink. Also, they tell me to return in a full tank, but i collect it on 3/4 fills. Drove 250kms and its half a tank already.
R.
We booked a 4 Berth explorer one month ago, in Auckland. The campervan that we got broke down (the turbo went down) a few km after we took it. Hopefully we could go back and take a new one. The problem was that the new one hasn't been fully revised and prepared and it had some issues (battery went off the night that we didn't go to a powered site, grey water hose was missing, gas bottle valve was stuck,...).Anyway, we could enjoy our trip. Personnel at Auckland were very busy and they didn't spend enough time to explain us the campervan. In my opinion, they should dedicate a little more time with the customers. But I have to say that the girl at Christchurch that attended us was very nice and understanding (she also spoke spanish), and even managed a compensation for us for the problems that we had.
E.
Hi
Yes we have enyoyned our trip so well. It was awesome .
We had very nice trip with the van. An when whe are coming back, we will sure rent a campervan from Britz again
Only pitty, we had a breakdown, but the manager at christchurch was so friendly to give us a refund, coz we lost two days.
But it can happen.
Its a so nice country to visit again.
Regards
Eise Boelens

Campervan was great. Had a few small issues but pretty pleased overall. Check-in process took far too long though. Was due to collect at 11am. Arrived at 10.45am. I never got campervan till 1.20pm! Therefore didn't get out of Auckland till after 2pm. Had to completely change route due to late departure 🙁
R.
We used a maui campervan through britz and it was superb. Great service. The team were awesome and the van was super easy to set up and enjoy. Thanks for a wonderful 20th anniversary trip. Rod & Jodi
J.
The camper van was very good. We didn’t use the shower and only used the toilet and cooker very occasionally as we were generally on campsites and facilities on those were excellent. The staff at Britz were friendly and the pick up and drop off were very smooth. The WiFi in the van was useful and worked in most locations. TV reception was difficult in most places. The SatNav generally helped but could be annoying/ confusing at times (usual problem).
M.
The campervan itself was great. However service was super slow, it took more than an hour to be taken care of. Our account was debited of an NZD5000 deposit whereas usually an imprint of the credit card is just taken. Bad surprise, wish someone would have told us! Also their opening hours in full season are just ridiculous, closing at 4.30pm, forcing you to spend a night in Auckland if your flight arrives mid afternoon... Can do better.
E.
We rent a Britz 4wd 5 years ago in Australia and were very happy with that.
After some research we decided this year to go for a Britz 2p Campervan in NZ.
Check in in Auckland went very good. Very helpful friendly staff. We got a 3 persons Campervan instead of a 2 persons Campervan. The van was very easy to drive and we liked the extra space! Our Wifi didn't work so we visited the branch in Queenstown and we got a tablet for the wifi. In the end we delivered the car in Christchurch, went very good too. So happy with Britz!
j.
I rent Action pod for 7 days. but All roads to Christchurch was closed by flooding, the dams was damaged. so I had to changed the flight and couldn't take the campervan.
I rent Maui on Christchurch for 10 days before and paid over 2000 NZD to change the flight for my wife's international flight and my domestic flight. when i dropoff, i drived 450km to return another office(Queenstown) but I can't get there on that day (because office's close time is 4:30PM). Next day the manager of Queenstown give us the present that free of charge to extended 1 day.
and At Auckland, they refunded two days insurance cost even not their fault. I appreciate it. I will choose Maui / Britz next time and recommend to everyone.
M.
Great vehicle, brand new Fiat 4 berth motorhome. Luxurious and drove well for its size. 7.1metres
I booked the vehicle through a third party company which was very straight foward. The staff that served me at the Auckland branch varied in ability and customer service. The christchurch branch was quick and efficient especially considering it's the xmas period. They also did very well negotiating with some demanding customers who spoke English as their second language.
K.
Had a great trip with Britz. Very helpfull group and service. Quick pick up and return. Even sorted us out with a replacement vehicle when we got stranded on the New Zealand West coast at Franz Joseph.
F.
The morning started off really bad, like a 2
Hour wait bad !!! Due to the detailer’s missing there was a cracked windscreen & the battery was flat ! I wasn’t a happy camper 🤬🤬🤬 But then we were served by Seth who was awesome, he apologised and took us through the entire Campervan, as first time hirers we
Had like a “million questions” but calmly and professionally he addressed all of our question’s, put us at ease as we prepared for the long drive up north thank you for the wine, beers and chocolate! You turned the miss’s frown upside down! Excellent comeback & A+++ Service.
J.
We had a great trip away in our 6 berth campervan! We picked up our camper the day after the fire the business experienced and I can imagine they had so many things going on but still managed to make the pick up and drop off seamless! Thanks again!
C.
Picked the van up within an hour which I don’t think is too bad and dropped off in minutes. Few issues with the van, an engine warning light came on (so had to phone their ‘free’ on the road number, obviously it’s only free if you have a nz phone so it cost me the equivalent of NZ$18 for a short call) I was told to turn the van off and on again to fix it. Obviously that didn’t work but as they said they don’t do anything unless it affects the performance of the van I happily did the rest of my trip with the light on. Shower leaked which was annoying and the water level indicators didn’t work, another annoyance. In the cab you get a choice between radio or cd (bit optimistic taking my aux cable). Annoyances aside I would rent a van from them again. Last point - they take the security deposit out of your account and don’t just ‘ring fence it’ so they took NZ$7500 out of my account and put it back in after I returned the vehicle, which meant I lost money due to the change in exchange rates.
S.
campervan was clean and tidy. Easy operate even for the first time user. traveling around with campervan is relaxing and fun. Britz is a experience provider and understand the needs of their customer.
s.
Had a poor start to our holiday , as our van was not ready for us and had to wait 2 hours , due to technician issues .But after an upgrade from the staff, who tried to help and make the delay as quick and painless and possible , we were on our way . Loved the camper and would recommend to everyone . Thanks again to a wonderful adventure
A.
Had a great experience with Britz - our van was the perfect size and had everything we needed. The check in and return processes were extremely easy. I would definitely recommend britz and will rent with them again in the future.
E.
We have used both Apollo and Britz. Overall, we found Britz to be far superior. Check in and pick up took around 40minutes. The service was good, but not excellent. The van was in very good condition - we had a porta-potty, chairs and tables, a heater, gas cooker, sink, holding tank, and water tank, and Tomtom GPS. The price was very reasonable. The only point here is that Britz didn't advise that all of these would be included with the van. But they offer it to hire? We hired a camp table because we didn't think one would be there, but it was. Communication could be better here. The van drove well, and was comfortable for a couple. Overall, would definitely pick Britz over Apollo, and would recommend and use again.
E.
The first campervan was aged and bed broke so Britz replaced van. The new van was superb. The service we received was excellent. Would use them again but would make sure to select van carefully and not just accept what we were allocated as some were rough and needed replacing.
A.
We really enjoyed our experience with THL. We had a Maui Venturer+ for over 2.5 months from lock-down and it was great. The only sad thing to say about the vehicle is that the power outlets do not work unless your plugged into hard power. Very annoying when you want to make your morning Nespresso's and Toast off grid. Otherwise, amazing and will definitely hirer a camper again when at the local discounted rates.
Also want to throw a huge shout out to Shreya. She was the rock to all our enquiries, challenges and questions. In times of chaos with hundreds of people picking up and returning vehicles post lock-down she was always smiling and running the show. Shreya's service was friendly, fast and efficient. If only we could have a few hundred Shreya's in our life.
Stay Safe, Be Kind and Shreya along!

The van itself was good. No problems. But strangely to us it did not have a cable to plug in at campsites. This meant the fridge was warm shortly after turning the engine off. Apparently the motor is supposed to keep the battery working for the fridge but this wasn't the case. Also the wifi we paid for was very patchy and often simply did not work - a problem when you have planned a trip with wifi support. We ended up paying for wifi at campsites, but was a problem when we were relying on google maps for directions. This was a big problem when we realised the navigation was also out of date and tried to take us onto a motorway that did not exist. So we spent a while the morning of returning the van driving around without wifi or navigation trying to find our way to a back.

We were let down by another camper van company in Auckland.
Called up Britz as we had passed it on our way and I knew it's close by.
The friendly lady of the hotline called me back on my mobile within minutes, despite I had used my foreign country number.
Within very short notice they made a brand new Sprinter camper available.
The pick up office in Auckland (as well as drop off in Christchurch) is modern, large, offers free coffee and has a clean set of showers and toilet. Plenty of free information booklets from AA available. A good start for beginning your holiday.
Once on our way we discovered that the fridge was not working properly. Britz offers 24/7 online chat and phone hotline, a real plus compared to some other companies. We were given the address of the nearest service center. Those found the problem within minutes and half hour later we were on our way again.
Few lessons I had learned: use a larger reputable company for renting your camper (like Britz, Maui,...) and never ever book through an agent (ours, Adventiv Ltd. had let us down bad time)!

Great way to travel.the van I had was on the older side, and it showed
T.
Our experience with Britz campervans exceeded our expectations. The van was totally outfitted with everything we needed! The only thing that didn't work was the GPS/wifi unit, which we were refunded for - good thing we had google maps ;) Mahalo!
S.
We experienced good customer service, and the vehicle we received was in good condition. It had everything we needed for a week away from home. Easy to drive, once you become of its size. We'll equipped.
R.
Hired the camper for 8 days and travelled from Auck to Rotorua going around the Coromandal and over to Opotiki (cheapest fuel in NZ). Living in the camper was a new experience as we usually travel and stay in a tent, this was such an awesom experience and hats off the all the staff at THL, the whole process was seamless and all staff were extremely helpful, Camper was in excellent condition and drove well, it was easy to handle such a large veh as the Frontier 6 berth Camper and was equipped with all requirement, We will most definitely be doing this again.

I'll separate this review into "Service" and "The Van".
Service:
Collection times are meaningless, there aren't enough personnel, and the office environment is best described as chaotic. Get there as early as possible, or later in the afternoon once the rush has abated. Once we got our van (90 minute wait) everything went reasonably well, apart from them not closing the sink waste, which resulted in a stinky van until we realised later on.
Returning the van was slightly better (20 minute wait), but be aware that you will be charged $7 per 100 km travelled diesel tax, as well as filling up with fuel and cas canister. If you have taken the enhanced liability waiver you can pay $375 to cover the tax, return empty (gas & fuel) and not empty waste/toilet. Worth doing if you've done a load of miles, and are running on fumes, with full waste tanks, and a flight to catch (just drop keys in a box and jump into an Uber).
The Van (Stan):
Stan was an Action Pod (2 berth) based on a 3 litre turbo-diesel auto LWB Toyota Hiace. Whilst not exactly nimble, Stan had more than enough power for overtaking and cruising (the 2.0 litre must be horrendous!). Fuel consumption was around 11 litres/100km, but fuel is cheap in NZ, so not really an issue. Driving Stan was good fun, if a little bouncy, and very impressive turning circle. Use low gears going downhill as the overdrive freewheels, and you will wish you had taken the rollover insurance! Corner carefully, Stan is not a race car and is rear-wheel drive.
This van is incredibly basic (no fitted carpets, curtains etc) and is based around a large pod structure in the rear that serves as your seats, beds, kitchen, storage, and loo. There is a fridge, but no leisure battery (or site power), so once the vehicle battery voltage drops past a set point the fridge turns off, then on, then off, then on, as the battery voltage recovers and drops; this is annoying! Turn the fridge off at night as it will irritate intensely (directly under the bed), we froze bottles of water in campsite freezers to use as ice packs.
The kitchen (accessed from the rear tailgate, which offers cover) was well stocked with utensils and cookware, but not well secured (just in plastic containers) so lots of rattling. Teatowels helped keep things in place. The stove was good once I removed the gaffer tape from the air intake holes (just behind control knobs), but before that had a yellow flame which covered the pots with black soot. The sink (also accessed from the tailgate) is a big grey plastic box that stores the grey water, with a 25 litre tank and pump tap being your fresh water. If the sink is allowed to fill up completely it will be very heavy, and has to be completely removed to empty.
The seats and bed are made of fabric-covered foam about 75mm thick. It was a little too thin for my liking, so consider bringing additional sleeping mats if you like a softer bed. There are magnetic blinds and blackout panels, which keep most of the light out, but bring an eyemask if you're nocternal, or have thin eyelids. There are two beanbags which were quite comfy, but don't leave them outside as ants seem to like them. There are large storage lockers under the seats, but these aren't accessible once the bed is folded down. There are two usb ports and a 12v accessory socket on the driver's side of the bed; hard to reach but work well, bring long USB cables. We didn't use the loo, but it seemed ok, although not recommended for "solids".
We opted to get additional chairs and a table, which were very useful (summertime, good weather). There is also a metal BBQ shelf at the bottom of the cooker drawer, which we used once we discovered it, but charcoal BBQ usage may be prohibited due to fire risk in some areas.
So given the price Stan performed admirably, but nothing like a fitted campervan in terms of neatness or style (VW T5/6), and we shed a tear or two when we handed him back to the shambolic rental office.
K.
Had an awesome 2.5month trip recently in a Britz Venturer+ around NZ, super comfortable size for 2 people and was surprisingly warm in winter. Had a couple of minor mechanical issues throughout the trip but always solved super fast, great customer service especially Shreya, Thankyou!
t.
Campervan reliable. Had basic items needed.
Staff in Queenstown very welcoming.
Picking up van in Auckland a nightmare...bus needs to take people to Britz. Auckland need shuttle service like Queenstown. Auckland pick up centre closed at 4pm and flight landed at 3.45pm..we were never going to make it by 4pm. Staff in Auckland not very helpful.
l.
I had rent a car twice from here. Basically, Britz is the cheapest Brand while Maui and other Brands are a bit expensive class.
First time I rent Campervan, it was VW 2.0 DTI Transporter with manual transmission which tend to stall due to the lack of the power. Everytime I stop at the corner, I had to roar the engine so that it wouldn't stall.
The car had a problem with side panel door locking system, and every time I shut the door, I was locked in completely inside, the door never open from inside handle!!! So I brought back the car to Britz office, and saw only thing they did was just sprayed it at the locking place. The problem soon arose just after a few hours later, but I had to give up to be fixed there by them, talking to myself "it's Kiwi quality in the end".
Next time I rent Campervan, it was almost Brand new Toyota Hiace with less than 3000 Kilometers, and since it had 3.0 Turbo Diesel engine, there wasn't a problem at all. It was a pleasant journey.
However, the employees in the office were bit dull, chatting all the way, and just in case Manager came down to ask customer, they looked begin to work hard. Maybe they need to be trained a bit more.
S.
Super professional crew and although busy they worked hard to get us on the road as quick as possible. We had an issue with the fridge while away from major cities and they located a service agent 5kms away who checked it out and fixed it quick as.
A.
We were able to find a good deal and the staff seemed a little overwhelmed and fairly inefficient as it wasnt busy at the time we were there. Was a longer pickup process than planned and weren't very helpful with questions about the ferry to the south island. We were given 2 different answers and the staff didn't communicate with each other. The older grumpy lady didn't seem to get on with the younger lady who seemed to be doing all the legwork.
Add around 2 to 3 hours minimum to your planned pickup time. There was alot of wasted time waiting.
You are able to catch the bus from the airport to a stop close by.
R.
The motorhome: we hired a Britz Explorer; this is quite a large vehicle, larger actually than the images suggest. Although reasonably new, it had done well over 100,000 km and felt it - I expect this is typical for Britz vehicles. Everything still worked on the vehicle, but the leisure battery was a bit feeble - don't expect to get more than 1 night on it unless you are literally using nothing (so typically if we had the the fridge on low power, some lights in the evening, diesel heater on for an hour, bit of water use for washing up and by the time we'd had breakfast the next morning, the majority of the power supply had been exhausted). Maybe it's the hammer the vehicle gets, but this is poor compared with (much older!) motorhomes we've hired in the UK. Otherwise all good though. Quite thirsty - expect no more than about 8 or 9 km per litre of fuel. Ours was an "automatic", but it's a semi-auto really rather than a true auto. I'd recommend using it in manual mode as the auto mode is pretty hopeless. Watch the revs; below 2k rpm power drops off very suddenly - we came to a halt in 1st gear, despite foot to the floor, as a result of this when crawling slowly up a steep hill and because it's not a true auto, there's no torque-converter to help you out. It did get going again but had to do a hill start (the handbrake isn't brilliant for this either!). Not major problems, just something to be aware of.
The pick-up experience: allow lots of time, and I mean lots! Several hours minimum. We were off-peak season and had this sort of wait, it must be worse in the summer. The people working there were working hard, but there isn't enough of them and I suspect organisation is lacking a bit. Some customers were getting extremely heated with frustration! We were OK, British stiff upper lip and all that . . . secretly raging inside though.
Overall, reasonable - nothing to shout about but nothing to complain about either. It'll do the job, don't expect anything extra though.
S.
It was loooong wait when picking up the RV. But the service is good, especially if you talk to Fernando. Get there early in the AM for shorter wait times. We had to return our RV 3 days in to our trip for some maintenance repairs but Fernando got it fixed within 2 hours and even bought us lunch while we waited. It was a very easy, positive experience especially of you get the express return package.
B.
Loved it! Campervaning is awesome and easy. We had no issues with pick up or delivery despite the premises burning down prior and covid. Would do it again if ever we could..!
K.
Check in was so easy. The camper van was is great condition, it even had a DVD player to entertain the kids on the drive! Would definitely recommend hiring one!
w.
Awesome motor home holiday experience from the ease of booking, to the holiday and touring around the North Island. Just sad that we didn't book it for longer. 2 adults and 3 children were extremely happy.
Thank you
V.
Had an amazing experience with thl and britz. We hired a 6 berth and it was perfect for our holiday. Great service at the thl service desk!
J.
Hiring a campervan at Britz is a great way to discover New Zealand. Campervan is equipped with everything you need. Pick-up and drop-off of campervan is quick and easy. service from Britz in case of problems is good
m.
the staff knew their vehicles and flexabilities, hardly any wait, noticed a lot of campervans parked up for weeks, however no deals going maui were 1/3 cheaper and motels were a cheaper deal
N.
Booking staff great and friendly
We booked Britz given a Maui didn’t expect problems
We queried tyres they didn’t have much tread but were assured Van had a current warrant of fitness
Every time we used the toaster it blew the insulator this was at Various campsites
The last night we camped no power after a long day driving and the fridge defrosted
The maintenance seems to be lacking in these vans at the moment
Just little things but irritating on your holiday
We have hired Kia a few times over the years and no hassles
Won’t be using Britz / Maui in near future
a.
we hired a toyota hiace hi -top which was severely wind affected in the 20 knot winds we experienced. Also the bed on the first night was uncomfortable but we fixed this by putting the mattress from the second bed on top. Other than that it was fine.
K.
Excellent service. Britz were very responsive and flexible in making changes for our booking. The camper we got was very clean and exactly as advertised. I can recommend Britz and looking forward to booking with them again.
P.
Great few days away, camper went well. Took a little while to learn which switches did what but once mastered it was a breeze. Definitely be doing another trip.
G.
absolutely superb. Clean and nice van, great welcoming service and made for a great road trip. Even upgraded us to the Maui, which was an unexpected bonus.
K.
Gave me a campervan that had a faulty gps/reverse sensor and camera. After 3 hours they gave me a portable tomtom GPS. Gave me a $100 discount at the end of 5 days, but I would have preferred a working reverse camera for such a big vehicle.
C.
Fantastic Service with the exception that the toilet flush would not turn off on the last two days. Otherwise a fantastic holiday with the option of either motor camp or freedom camping
G.
The entire experience was great, from pickup through to delivery. The camper was easy to drive once you got used to the size and the whole trip was enjoyable.
E.
They only open at 8am but make sure to catch the free yellow bus a little before 8am. It comes every 30min. After you got to the pick up place, you check in at the receptionist and wait again (as of this review, I've waited 40min). At least there's tiny kids play area, water dispenser, coffee/hot chocolate maker and shower complete with towels. There's only 1 toilet stall though. Will update my review again
S.
Beautiful mothorhome super new and clean, the Fiat ducato help us to enjoy this trip for 20 days without any issue. Real reccomand and real cheap in Diesel aswell.
S.
We had a great time in the Maui 4 berth but we did have trouble with gas grill not working which resulted in having to use matches to ignite it the whole trip, also our side door wouldn't open so we had to use the driver and passage doors which was a nuisance not mention been a fire hazard, they did however credit us for one free day rental for future use but I think considering we had no door most of the trip and trouble with the gas and hot water one day free rental isnt substantial enough, however we have booked a trip next March and will be throughly checking these areas...thank you
S.
We hired 6berth home from Auckland to South Island amazing experience especially if u moving with family . Now my kids loves motor home more then my actual car
P.
All in all a pretty good experience. There were a few things like the screens on the windows that came off but other than that a really pleasing experience. Highly recommend.
B.
Enjoyed it 1st time hiring a camper.....advice when you see cheap petrol stations along your ways Gull etc price of Diesel is under $1 per litre....saves you bit of dosh on filling up the tank etc.....
P.
Excellent vehicle and agency generally good. Incorrect information provided re bike rack. Would hire again.
N.

E.
Fantastic experience 😄✨ absolutely spotless and so easy to drive! Can’t wait to book again!! Such an easy process too collecting and dropping off
R.
Great service. From walking in we were approached buy friendly and helpful staff, we were shown our options and prices were given prices telephonically. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and upon return again welcomed by friendly staff, we had a small hiccup with the van but we were reimbursed financially
D.
Camper was what we expected. Not currently running the shuttle to the airport and Uber will cost $12-14. (Or a 30minute walk but due to road works not sure if it's possible)
H.
Great Holiday. Great staff and excellent vehicle. We do live in Gods own, get out and see it with Britz, you will not regret it. Awesome holiday.
d.

+ Well organized and efficient team
