It was definitely an unusual experience. I'm not sure if DriveNZ have an actual depot or not, but the experience wasn't really any worse off for that. They arranged to meet me at Auckland Airport domestic terminal. I was expecting a shuttle of some sort but instead a guy showed up with the car. He had a backpack with him and just hopped out and after seeing our licenses said, "here you go", someone was coming to pick him up. Dropping off was much the same. Rather than going to the airport we were renting a campervan so arranged to meet there, which was really convenient. He showed up in another car and asked if I could follow him to drop the car off, and he'd drop me back. A short drive later I parked the car on the side of the road and he was dropping me back at the campervan depot. On the whole it was actually really convenient. The car was pretty average - but was what I was expecting at that price point, actually possibly even a little better than I expected. The only negative aspect to the experience was that the car was dropped off with only 2 bars (digital gauge) of fuel. I contacted the guy and he said just return it with 2 bars. That did feel a little vague, and trying to return the car at that level is actually pretty inconvenient. I definitely prefer to just fill it up around the corner from the depot. The other thing that weighed on my mind a bit was that we didn't do any pre-pickup inspection. This meant if accused of any damage it could have got quite difficult. I took some photos around the car and a quick video, but as we were in the airport pickup lane I didn't have as much freedom to look around as I would have liked. I was a bit hesitant after reading reviews, but on the whole, very happy with the experience and would happily use again (it's the second time I've used them but first time with this pickup/drop-off experience).

They make it super easy for pick up and drop off, delivering the car to you and the airport pick up area, and dropping it off at the same place! Have regularly booked hire car from Drive NZ over the last few years after having used a couple of others first that I wasn’t happy with, until discovering Drive NZ. Fantastic service (regular pick up from Auckland airport), efficient & friendly car pick up which helped massively each time. Drop offs also just as easy regardless of what time flights out, free transfer service a blessing. Prices are fantastic and haven’t been disappointed with provided vehicles. Definitely my only choice over past year+ when coming back home to see family. You can’t go wrong with them and their insurance package is reasonably priced compared to other companies- without the hard sell too.

Happy with the communication. Easy pick up and drop off. Car was completely fine for what I needed, clean. My only gripe is that the fuel tank was only half full on delivery . The driver did apologise and explained that I should return it half full. However this is much harder to gauge than a full tank so it was returned almost full at my cost. I would definitely use this company again.

I was got angry in the morning due to delay in pick up but later on I realized that it was different time showing on Drive NZ Rental cars end and mine was different. However, the boy delivery the car at front of Domestic Airport and gave the key straight way which was fabulous and reached at my meeting on time. On the hand, when I came back and drop off the car at front of Airport door at same place. I have been hired with most of the hired company but this company has tremendous service. With the other rentals, need to go to the based location and pick the car and spend lot of time to do the sign in process which waste the lot of valuable time. Pick-up experience was good - Car was excellent - Return of car felt rushed with no time to discuss issues. Seemed a bit like a one-man-band! (one person doing everything - paperwork, airport shuttle and car shuffling) As occasional visitors to Auckland we did not realize that there was no longer a petrol service station for topping up the car at the airport - A warning would have been good.

The ease we had to obtain our rental car was exactly how we were instructed via email. Friendliness and customer service on point. When we returned our rental I forgot my work laptop and how the company went over and above to retrieve it before my plane departed I would love to say a huge thank you to the kiwi female that assisted us (she is a true asset to the company). Picked up our car at 1am from Auckland airport. Everything was smooth and efficient. The bus picked us up in no time and we had our collected with a full tank in under 30mins. The car was perfect, no issues, smells or funny noises. Drive for four days without a problem. Drop off was just as easy and stress free.

Maria was fantastic, before we even flew up, she got the paperwork sorted and informed me what my booking agent didn't with the insurance and how they don't talk to each other. She made the whole process so simple and easy to understand and could tell she was genuine and down to earth so I was able to relate to her easily and she cared about me. Maria T went above and beyond what she needed to do for me and made my first rental car experience a breeze. I'll definately book another rental through them again. She even had the car running and warming up all ready to go when we arrived, no more paperwork, easy pick up and drop off plus shuttle. Couldn't have been more convenient.

Good service, easy to arrange and very reasonable pricing. Pick up from Auckland airport at 9pm was stress free. Great that you can fill out your details online prior to pick up so all we had to do was get the keys and we were on our way.

Very well priced rental cars, not brand new, but not too old either. Well maintained and good price for insurance options - $14 day for reduced excess or $19 day for no excess. Free shuttle, however their 0800 number to call the shuttle is not operating. I hope they sort this out soon. I was a bit stressed arriving at night and wasn’t able to get hold of DriveNZ on the phone. Luckily a Fliway shuttle just arrived so I just got in and it took us to the pickup area for their cars.

Pick up and drop off shuttle was quick and easy. The vehicle had a flat battery at first but was quickly fixed and i was on my way. The vehicle was what i needed and no troubles. Thank you for the experience will definitely use again in the future.

When we picked the car up in Auckland at 7:00pm, the car had very little fuel. I mentioned this as well as the marks on the car and was told by the office staff that we only do the pickups. You will need to tell the company that. We also received no paperwork, damage report or contact details. After two days an engine light came on, we were told to go to the local Bridgestone depot for them to look at it. No major problems found, the car did not run properly for the rest of our holiday. I returned the car with more fuel than was in it when I picked it up. The lady behind the counter was very understanding, as we had spoken to her when we first had the problem. She said that the car had been a problem for a few previous rentals. She also offered to refund the difference in the fuel. Two weeks on, I have emailed Drive NZ about the refund and it still has not been credited to my account. I have

We hired a car from Christchurch and dropped it off in Auckland. The car was far from new but was in decent condition and was a pleasure to drive. The collection place in Christchurch just acted an an agent so there was no signage there and the depot in Auckland was also small but was permanetly staffed with their own courtesy bus. They are clearly a small company but my experience was very good, the staff were nice and helpful, and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

Although we were surprised by the austere appearance of your Auckland offices, causing us some initial concern, we were promptly reassured by the kind, friendly service that we encountered. Upon our return, we pointed out damage to the rear of the vehicle, the agent, rather than weighing us undo concern, cheerfully transported us to International departures and assured us "not to worry, the problem would be dealt with and we would receive an assessment, but in the meantime...have a safe and peaceful flight home". Friendly and cheaper then the others. Everything was fine..my only negatives were that I got a flat battery, went in boot to see if there were any jumperleads but there weren't and whilst looking in the boot saw there was no spare tyre. That would be such a hassle if got a flatty. And car was not full either. Apart from those minor issues...everything else was fine.

Cheap affordable car to run around on, amazing steering, brakes, tires especially in the wet weather. When I needed to extend more days on hire, easy to communicate to via email and on the phone. Excellent experience. When we picked up the car they did not have the one we booked and the car they had assigned to us was not suitable because of my physical limitations. The young lady who checked us in went out of her way to assist and very soon found an alternative vehicle that worked for me. We were very impressed!

The service for pickup and drop off was terrific and timely. The drivers were really friendly and chatted with us throughout the short drive from and to the airport. The car was at the office door by the time we'd finished the paperwork and was beautifully presented. Though small, the car was plenty big enough for our needs and was very "zippy". A very good price for the few days we needed transport in Auckland. Shuttle pick up from the airport easy and although the return was out of hours shuttle back not a problem. Only 4* because there was no petrol in the car on pickup!!

Competitive rates, Corolla sedan was satisfactory and the pick up/return procedures were friendly and efficient. The only deduction was because we waited at AKL for 30 minutes with no Drive NZ shuttle. That may not sound like a lot of time but we had a 3hr drive to Tauranga so time was of the essence. We tried 9 times to ring the number on the instructions, but the phones went unanswered until the 9th time. At that point, the lady told us to jump on the FlyAway shuttle. We'd seen several of them but we passed them up because the instructions told us to look for Drive NZ (and the driver never said he was taking Drive NZ customers). Had their communications been correct from the outset, it would have saved us anxiety and I would have given them 5 stars.

It was our dream to visit south island the most beautiful part of New Zealand.I had planned a surprise trip for my family for 7 days.We had a life time experience trip and most important was DRIVE NZ rental car.When I have booked rental car for 7 days and due to very cheap rates I consoled myself that it will be an old car.On our arrival to Christchurch airport we were picked up in less than 5 minutes.We reached their yard in 5 minutes and our eyes were popping out in disbelief when we saw the car.It was NZ new Nissan tida. We drove from Christchurch via Dunedin, Invercargill to Queenstown and from Queenstown to Christchurch. The car was very fuel efficient and the ride was perfect.Few days we drove 5 to 6 hours and my wife is pregnant and she never complained about being tired.For people who are planning their holidays and looking for cheap rates for immaculate condition cars,you can take my assurance. Im a very satisfied customer for their prompt and friendly service.

I have used Drive Nz on several occasions both in Christchurch and more recently in Auckland and have found the company very good to deal especially because i fly in from the States and i always arrive in the early hours of the morning and because they are a 24/7 operation there is always someone on hand to deal with. We were just held to ransom at 2:30am from the guy at flyaway as drive nz’s agent asking us to sign a blank manual credit card slip, with no dollar amount entered to “pay for fines and such”. We left in an uber rather than a rental car. Update: We returned the next morning, and picked up the car. We used a credit card for the deposit like normal people, and dropped it back. The car was great and the guy was sympathetic to our reasoning for refusing to sign a credit card authorisation for a blank amount. I hope they stop this unethical practise.

Sorry....cant give more than 3 at most. My experience at getting to airport to be told my car was cancelled due to late arrival. I was actually on time and at no stage did anyone ring me to see why i was supposedly late....would have been common manners considering i had checked in online. I was then given a tiny mitsubishi colt which had one headlight that went out when you hit a bump....shockies gone....radio wouldnt work....nav set on japan. All up not good . Reason for 3 stars is because girl in iffice did find me a car at all
