After getting several quotes this was one of the cheapest for a sleepervan. $1800 for 16 days including: $0 excess, transfer from airport to pick up location, kitchen equipment (inc. camping stove, table, chairs, crockery, cutlery, pans), bedding, roadside assistance, unlimited km, 2 drivers, GST.
The van had a few aesthetic blemishes but ran very well. It had done approx 150,000km (in comparison, our friends van had done over 400,000!). It had plenty of oomph to get up all the hills we could throw at it. In over 3,500km of driving we only had one slight concern with vibration coming through the steering wheel but popped into a garage who said it was likely from some slightly worn brake discs and that there wasn't a safety issue. Elements were very good in responding to our concerns and gave us the option of getting them replaced or keeping an eye on it - we chose the latter but got the impression doing the former would have been straightforward to arrange.
The conversion is fairly basic with plywood and a couple of large plastic containers forming the sink supply and drain for the self-certification sticker. Generally we left the bed up the whole time and sat outside or in the front seats. In the day we'd put our bags on top of the bed, at night in the front seats.
n.b. A general note about sleepervans (not specific to Elements) but worth bearing in mind; neither my partner or I are tall (5' 7") but the bed was slightly too short. This was easily overcome by sticking our feet through the gap between the driver/passenger seats but may be slightly more of an issue for the taller person!
Elements were very easy to communicate with over email although every time I tried ringing them once in NZ their line was busy.
Overall we had a fantastic time and really enjoyed the flexibility of having a self-contained sleepervan (rather than a larger camper). A bit more crockery/cutlery and better availability on the phone and this would be a perfect 10/10. Recommended.

Not your usual 5* review.
My partner and I rented a Toyota Estima from Elements.
The check in to the car was standard. Offered a drink, walk around the car, signed the paperwork and a handshake to confirm the transaction.
Got behind the wheel and it drove like a dream. Few knocks on the old girl but nothing you wouldn’t expect looking at the majority of New Zealand’s second hand car fleet.
Anyway, we drove down to Taupo for 5pm to jump on to one of the Maori rock carving tours, which comes with high recommendation. We returned from said trip aiming to tee up a place we can stay for the night for free only to realise that our self contained documentation was missing (meaning we could not freedom camp and stay at free camp sites). Mother f@@@@@s. By this time it was 8ish and elements was shut so had no one to vent my disgust at, bar my girlfriend who equally as pi$$ed off.
We luckily found a camp site which and took non self contained vehicles for free (which you won’t find in many places) so we took the blow on the chin and decided to address the following morning.
I called elements that morning ready for a dust up only to find one of the owners super keen to help and extremely apologetic at the other end of the phone. She was actually on holiday at the time and promised someone would call me to sort everything.
Dunya called within the hour and everything was sorted, as was promised. She said any cost incurred from having to pay for stays at camp sites would be absorbed by elements at the end of the rental and again, apologies in the dozens. Dunya put this into writing immediately after and said that they may be able to get the self containment info out to me if it comes in time but not to stress over the next 10 days.
I’ve just returned the camper (which done everything we asked of it) to some of the owners of the company and their two children following my trip. All equally as charming. We chatted for 20 minutes about my trip and they showed interest asking many questions and then told me about his journey starting this company. Its clearly a young company with all the right intentions and goes above and beyond when things don’t go according to the script.
They refunded my incurred costs without even looking at the receipts. You cannot buy class.
Would highly recommend. Decent car, even better service.
