M.Rented a 2m box truck to help a friend shift flat - chose James Blond as they are local to me but they also had the most competitive pricing and options. Pickup was a breeze, the truck was in great nick and the staff were very helpful. Definitely the easiest rental process I have had, will be coming back if I ever need anything else and have just recommended them to my parents for moving their house too. Excellent service.
T.I was expecting a newer model as it was advertised as 2017 or similar. I was given a 2011 model with 220k on the clock. The van is ok to drive and economical considering it age and mileage. Customer service is fine without any issues.

P.I have hired from James Blond for several years (9), during that time, all vehicles have been modern and in good serviceable condition and therefore, certainly fit for purpose. The staff at James Blond pick up and drop off have always been pleasant and very knowledgeable helpful and attentive.
Whilst in New Zealand James Blond in my opinion is the best, I would not hire from anywhere else.
Even in these difficult times they were good to deal with and recently they went beyond good service for me.

S.The staff at the counter when we returned our vehicle was very friendly. What can be better improved in the future is that when we rang up to inform that we are returning our vehicle early, the staff on the phone should let us know that we can get a refund if we are returning it a day earlier. That saves us a day of rental and that also helps James Blonde to allocate this vehicle to another customer.
P.Rented an RAV4 for 8 days in December 2018. Very good service from beginning. Made a booking from Sydney and they did not ask for a deposit. Got a very good clean car for a reasonable price. Only had a problem returning the car on Christmas eve because the shop was closed before the normal time. But a staff came out of the way and helped to return the car. A bit of panic for an hour but we had happy ending.Thank you James Blond for making our trip to New Zealand a wonderful memory.

They team were very friendly, helpful and escorted us to the vehicle with umbrellas and raincoats. I couldn't fault the vehicle. We chose to have the car delivered to our hotel this was a great option for us. The men that turned up with it were lovely, because we didn’t know Auckland at all and they were going our way, they drove slowly so we could follow them out of the city (thank goodness I think we would still be trying to find our way out!!).
The car was an older model, but nothing wrong with it at all, we toured the North Island over 3 weeks and clocked up more than 2,000 kms, the car never missed a beat (and it is very mountainous in places, with very tight corners).
We returned the car to Auckland airport, where a van was waiting to drop us at the terminal (7 minute ride).
Everything went so smoothly, we were thrilled with the car and the great service and would thoroughly recommend James Blond.
B.Absolutely brilliant company to deal with,. Nothing was too much trouble but i was most impressed by they way they made absolutely sure that we would be absolutely safe to tow the furniture trailer and checked all out lights and indicators were working before we left the yard. I have to say I felt like they really cared and were just out to take my money. I will most certainly recommend this business.

S.I have high regards for James Blond as a rental company. It was very no nonsense and easy to deal with them. After researching online or a while I came across this company and chose them for the quality of the car and price they were offering. Even though I had to travel a bit to get to them in West Auckland it was well worth it. (they do offer airport pick up but I was already in Auckland) Within about 15 minutes of arriving we were ready to go in the car and driving on our holiday.
Easy airport drop off ensured us an easy end to our holiday.

C.I discovered James Blond when I lived around the corner in West Auckland several years ago, and thanks to their excellent airport drop-off service, I've been able to continue to use them whenever I'm in Auckland visiting. Their prices have always been among the cheapest, the cars more than acceptable and I've noticed the quality going up in the past couple of years with newer vehicles on the fleet.
I have recommended them to many friends, and none of them have come back to me to fault that recommendation. We have used them well over a dozen times, and service has always been fair and friendly.
M.Everything worked well. Even when I had problems with my Credit Card to rent the car the company wrote back several times and helped to to finish the contract. We had a wonderful 4 weeks holiday and drove the car for almost 3000 km. Everything was fine. Thanks a lot!
P.As usual for car rental, advertised prices conceal huge insurance excesses, but despite this James Blond is pretty good all things considered. You get what you pay for vis-a-vis mileage and vehicle capabilities. Better, without a doubt, than big-brand airport options. No complaints here!

P.Rental was booked on line and was an easy straight forward experience. Prepaid Airport pickup service to car rental site was slow with over half hour wait on sidewalk. Car rental pickup was quick and vehicle was excellent. Would definitely use James Blond again however Airport pickup service needs to be looked at.

The service from the grumpy old man when I picked the truck up was a let down, but the nice young men who received the truck back and filled it up for me made me feel better about the company. Up until that point, cheap or not, I wasn't going to recommend or use James Blond again.

R.Great service! Thor helped us out and pointed out that I had paid the wrong amount for the length of time for my rental. I ended up using it for the 24 hours but really appreciated his honesty. The truck was great, clean inside so none of my things were damaged or dirty.
B.The vehicle performed well despite being 15 yrs old. It was delivered to my hotel, as requested, and the return was just as smooth as I would have liked. All in all, I was very satisfied with the service I received. The rental rate was the best I have had in my various trips to NZ and I will definitely be in touch if and when I come over again.
J.We are from the UK and we hired a car from James Blond for 18 days over Christmas.
There are some very high prices on offer generally for car hire and horror stories with excesses and claiming back damage deposits which we are very wary of.
So we opted for one up from the backpacker special to keep costs reasonable but with full insurance cover for whatever might happen - nothing did.
I'd never heard of a Toyota Ractis but that was what was on offer, 11 years old and with 137k kilometres on the clock.
This is a small car on the outside but tall and it turned out to be more than spacious enough holding all our luggage easily in the rear.
It coped with all the hills no problem - you can't exactly go very fast anywhere in New Zealand with the speed limits and the roads are just fine for 100kph/62mph. Car behaved faultlessly and my only comment would be that the a/c was cool rather than cold but if that's all you can complain about on an old car things are pretty good.
Hiring from an Auckland depot with additional $20 dollar each way transfer to the airport worked out a lot cheaper than pick up and drop off from the air port and only added half an hour to the process.
Total cost for 18 day was under $1,000/ £480 and well worth it.
Instructions for the pickup were to wait under the clock - I couldn't see a clock so asked a man in a high vis jacket if a clock used to be attached to a rusty bracket on the roof - he said all the clocks were removed some years ago because they had to keep adjusting them for daylight saving twice a year!
For me an older reliable car was far more relaxing to drive as it took away the worry should anyone else or myself have done something stupid and lets face it not many of us function at 100% after being on an aeroplane for whole a day.
James Blond were really on the ball for all the booking and pre-hire emailing of info - the 'clock' detail in the instructions needs an update though. We always knew what to do and where to go.
Very pleased with the whole process and excellent value.

Compared to other providers, I used in the past in Auckland, the service is higher in quality, the vehicle is better equipped, the service is more flexible, the prices are more reasonable. S.I rented a car for 4 weeks. Picking up the car was quick and easy. When the windscreen took a stone on an unsealed road and developed a long crack, dealing with the office to arrange for repair while out in northland was pretty efficient and the insurance took care of it with no hassles. The car was quite new and performed very well. Dropping it off at the airport was quite easy and again, no hassles.

G.We rented a Nissan Bluebird Automatic for 5 days from Boxing Day till the 30/12/17.
The booking process was easy, the correspondence regarding sending my driving licence to them was simple and efficient.
We arranged to pick it up from Auckland Airport through the company they use for airport pick-ups, which they gave us the instructions for and was so smooth and organised! Once at the other company’s office at 17:00, we were away in 5 mins!
All information needed was there waiting in the vehicle, and payment had already been taken. The car was old, but this was reflected in the price (£29 a day), but nethertheless was reliable and comfortable. Fuel efficiency was not great, but again, this was reflected in the overall rental cost!
We returned the car to James Blond’s headquarters in West Auckland, and staff were so friendly! They saw that we had only effectively rented the car for 4 days (due to rental being taken as 24 hours from pick up time equalling 1 day), and then refunded us NZ$48! They even dropped us at the train station free of charge!
Couldn’t recommend highly enough; efficient, easy, friendly service!

D.Very simple and straight forward service. Much cheaper than any of the other companies I found. Even though there is no James Blond office at the airport or in downtown Auckland, the team was very helpful in delivering the car to us at our downtown hotel and we could drop the car off at their partner's location very close to the airport. From there we got a short shuttle ride to the airport. No complications, no waiting and no problems.
We chose a newer car (2014) and therefore a slightly more expensive rental rate so I cannot comment on the older models that can be rented at the cheap rates, however, after traveling around NZ and seeing very many quite old rental cars from other companies, I am sure that this is a much more common situation in NZ where one can save a few bucks.
D.James Blond were absolutely great to me. As a graduate student renting a car from overseas, cost effectiveness was important to me. I got what I paid for: a very reliable, small and efficient car that was nothing flash but did the job very well for almost 3 months. Don't be scared away by the fact that James Blonde is not one of the big car rental companies - they offer a fantastic, personable, reliable service and a quality product for the money you pay. Highly recommended.
W.My family and I rented a Toyota Camry just after Xmas, for some 11 days. To begin with, the price was reasonable and James Blond was really very quick to respond and amend; we make several amendments on the type of car we wanted, etc, but the response was always quick and no-fuss! Picking up the car at Auckland airport was relatively hassle-free except for the fact that we arrived slightly ahead of schedule, could not find the pick-up van, and when we approached the airport information for help, nobody seemed to know about James Blond. It was our own fault really, as the pick up was to be by a different company! Anyway, things ended well and picking up the car was easy - we just went into the office and picked up the keys, and the car was already waiting for us outside - nice and clean!
The car turned out to be very good - silent engine, sufficiently spacious even for a family of 5 adults, and for the one sitting in the middle of the passenger row! The luggage space was ample too. Driving it around North Island was a breeze, and finally returning the car was also a piece of cake - just park the car in front of the office, and hand in the keys, before they shuttle us off to the departure hall!
If I ever visit NZ again, I would certainly go James Blond.
P.I chose this company initially because the location is convenient for me but I would happily use them again. I booked online easily, the service desk personnel were efficient and helpful, the car was clean and mechanically sound, and the price was very reasonable.
April 2018. I recently rented a small truck (2 ton) overnight and the staff were kind enough to serve me even though I arrived to pick it up 15 mins after they had closed. However both the cab and the cargo space were a bit grubby - I noted this particularly after the emphasis on penalties for smoking, returning it dirty, etc. when I signed the lease documents. I haven't driven a manual for several years and I found the gear box was rather loose, but the truck ran well. Finally I was told the company could replace the diesel I used and as I was only travelling less than 100kms I didn't refill it and was rather surprised to be charged $1.50 a litre when gas stations were charging $1.30 to $1.35. Obviously only a small difference for me but that could really mount up in another situation. The final bill (for rental + the per kilometre rate + the diesel used) didn't seem like much of a bargain.

A.The pick up and drop off service was quick and trouble free. Staff were good to speak too. They gave me a grace period of 1 hour over my return time. The only reason i have given them a 4 star is that the trucks mirror wasnt secured porperly die to which it shifted at high speeds and made it impossible to look out from the left side, was a little dangerous. The water sprayer for the wipers was empty so had to fill it myself. Otherwise all good. Will definitely go back if i need a truck rental
J.I had compared the price and other conditions among 8 car rental companies. Finally, I chose James Blond and now I can say I made a good choice. The service, the price, and the car quality are all good. The pick-up and return procedures at the airport are simple and quick. No need to sign any paper. Just one thing, I hope I can have a map in the car next time. That will be very helpful for a foreigner who can't find anywhere to buy a map at the airport. Anyhow, thank you very much. A.We rented a car for 3 months at very competitive prices. It was not new but did the job well. The James Blond team was very helpful during the booking process and the pick up and drop off were both easy. Did not rate as a 5 because the tyre pressure was all over the place when we got the car and we ended up replacing one at our own cost and the car stereo did not support an external source.

Simple trustworthy, honest and reliable car rental company,
they don't have branches in other cities hence car has to come back to pick up location which is bit of pain but that compensates with competitive prices and their excellent services. :-)
R.We rented a car for an 8 weeks period early 2013. The vehicle was almost new and exactly the model we wanted. We tried very hard to find a better price but it has never been beaten, not even for a much much older car. Swift pick up and drop off. The same experience as the year before. James Blond's backpacker range suited nicely, 10 years old, scratched, dented, but economical, comfortable and most importantly reliable,. Perfect for our requirements. A.Needed a Mini Van last minute for a few hours to pick up a bed and James Blond came through, most rental companies you have to book in advance etc but booking through James Blond made is so easy and less hassle. Great service and would highly recommend.

Used a 3 tonne auto with tail lift: my first experience driving a truck - wow! Never before, first time lol and possibly my last as there was a mishap with my refund on bond ;( Winz told me I couldn't have it when it was refunded back to payment card if they paid it upfront and that I should've got it in cash but not before it had been repaid back to the card - bye, lost it! Mistake no 1 ;( Upon phoning thinking truck was going to be late back by 5 was nicely surprised to hear it was a 24 hr hire and that Winz failed to inform me, mistake no.2 these guys are awesome, but Winz 👎 stink! G.James Blond was great. They let us add on a trailer at the last minute, and delivered the cars right to our hotel! That was awesome, because it would've been a pain to try to go and pick the cars up at 8.30am. There was unlimited mileage (very important), and the vans gave us no problems at all. R.The best rental company I have used in the World. The cars are quality, there is no salesmanship and you are quickly on your way. Drop offs are easy too. Overall the prices are very good for the service you receive. The only negative is the quality of the GPS you receive.

G.The vehicle was definitely older (2006), expected with the lower car rental rate. It did perform, so no complaints there. Oddest unexpected was that the side view mirrors lowered automatically when backing up. Not as helpful as a backup camera as on newer cars, but helpful nonetheless.
I found them rather scattered in their processes for check out and check in and their yard was very crowded. Perhaps just lucked into busy times when I was there?
Rental vehicle was not cleaned well - failed to clean inside of windshield creating a safety hazard driving into the sun right off. Had to procure my own window cleaner as we were already on the road. I mentioned when returning the vehicle. I thought they might give me at least a courtesy credit for my extra expenditure and inconvenience, but nope.
While there was lots of body damage, dents and scratches, prior to rental noted, they had no sheet to mark it so, instead encouraging me to take photos, which seems less than efficient. 20 or so photos later, when returning, I didn't see them check for damage.
Air conditioning button worked sometimes, took repeated presses and good thoughts.
Also to note for future renters, they do not offer a grace period for partial days early or late return. That's fine as long as one knows.
R.Hired a furniture trailer. Was a bit rough and ready. Had to sweep and vacuum floor and sides before using as found it unacceptably dirty for transporting furniture and personal belongings. Trailer also had an annoying small hole in the front corner floor. Customer service was excellent.
A.Good service. Very helpful and easy going. Car was good for the price paid. $10 extra for zero access insurance is great as you drive worry free. Not lengthy paper work. 5 min to get the car and same for returning time.

A.I've only ever hired through Avis and Jucy in the past who have always had immaculate, lovely vehicles. I've used James Blond twice recently. Twice was emailed the rego of a vehicle and on the day of hireage got a different car. So I expected a certain model but got a different vehicle on the day. The first vehicle I hired was in the backpacker range and very small. Needed more attention to cleanliness on exterior and interior. Wonder if it was full of petrol when I collected it as I hardly did any kms and it used nearly as much petrol as the larger vehicle I hired 2 weeks later and which I would have done well over double the mileage. The second vehicle I hired on a different day needed more attention to the interior as it had some spots which should have been cleaned. I felt there should have been a light showing when the e-brake was on. Although I made no mistakes I believe it could be easy for some drivers to drive with this on. Yes I would use this company again. Great location and pleasant service. Excellent rates and I like that you can take out insurance which gives you peace of mind that if anyone hits you you're covered.

J.I needed a small truck to help a mate move house. James Blond = top service, best price. The thing that swung it for me was the $30, zero excess insurance deal. The lowest excess I could find elsewhere was over $4k. Not that I'm ever intending to go out and demolish my rental, just that you never know when you're throwing furniture around. OK, the truck wasn't exactly flash, but hey, it's a truck, we're not looking for luxury. Next time I need a vehicle I'm going straight to these guys. Plus the special agents in the office have a decent sense of humour. All good.
D.They gave the best price, and we were expecting an older car but the car we got was less than 1 year old. It was a wagon like we requested and was extremely economical. Very easy process for the pickup and drop-off. Will be using James Blond again.
M.I was welcomed by a lovely friendly gentleman who had waited for me to arrive for pick up at 5pm. He also processed my rental agreement promptly and was a real gem to deal with, thank you for that old school good feeling kind of service. He did prefer that I drive a better truck as it would be easier on the drive down to Whakatane some 300kms away, however it was not pulled out in time for me to tak. I did drive the DYNE which was ok and did the job. Only problem i had was the leak in the roof as it rained over night, my lounge suite was water soiled. I've let them know and they were already aware of the corner pre existing damage that perhaps may have caused the leak through to my contents. This was the only thing really and there was no radio nor did the lighter receptacle work for charging a phone. I would like to have seen some sort of compensation for the soiled lounge.

The back seat of the car does need a clean as it is water stained.
Would be good to have a form where scratches and marks etc could be noted on pick up. We took photos.

M.Reliable and Good Price. Hired a Ford Transit to take a sports team down to Rotorua for 3 days. Booking online was easy to follow, when I arrived for pick up the guy who processed the order was professional and friendly. When I returned the Transit, I was greeted upon arrival and my bond was reimbursed within 5 min of arriving. Friendly staff, will definitely book here in the future.

We had enough room (just enough) for our 6 people and plenty of space for all of our luggage, which was a lot of luggage as we had to pack for NZ (cooler) and Moorea (beach). The process to get the van was easy... just call from the airport phone and meet the shuttle who took us to the lot. Gave the worker the confirmation number and we were handed a the keys... took less that 2 minutes to get the van. After touring for 6 days, we just returned the van to the same place and were shuttled back to the airport. Worked great for us. Highly recommended.

B.Buses were clean and worked well. Minor malfunctions with the side step in both buses. Not much customer service from the Aeroparks staff accept for one woman worker that went out of her way to help. Buses were very reliable and economic. I would rent again without a concern

C.I have rented cars from various car rental companies whenever I visited NZ over several years. This was the first time I rented from James Blond - a little-known car rental company (Google-wise). I chose it primarily because it offered one of the cheapest rates in Auckland.
I liked the fact that I got to pick up and drop off the car near the Airport and it was entirely fuss-free. But what I liked better (and it completely blew me away) was James Blond's excellent customer service. There was a hiccup with my rental car and the response from them was astounding! James Blond not only responded quickly, they also remedied the issue so efficiently that it far exceeded my expectations. Of all the many car rental companies that I'd come across, James Blond is by far the best that I'd dealt with. I am totally impressed by their professionalism in this business despite my hiring only a low-end car. They did not label me a 'cheapo' unlike one car rental company which insulted me last year.
If James Blond continue with competitive rental rates and excellent service, it will be the fastest growing car rental company in Auckland. D.You could not get a better car hire company, anywhere. We booked our car from Perth, Australia on a Monday, and picked up our car via a free shuttle service at Auckland airport on Tuesday. Absolutely hassle free. The car was clean, the tank was full and we were able to travel directly to Waima, Northland at 4 a.m. Returning the vehicle was just as easy. Last month I rented a car for a week with zero excess. I accidentally damaged the left rear quarter of the car when reversing on a rural road that I was unfamiliar with. After I returned the car, John Pederson of James Blond sent me an email asked me for an explanation for what happened so that they can file an insurance claim and repair the damage. I apologised and explained to them what happened. Zero excess as it was, no more questions asked!

J.Good experience renting a large 12 seater van from these guys. They use AeroPark to pick you up from the airport so the experience with them is out of their control.
It rained heavily on the first day and this uncovered a leak in the driver's side door. I called them up and they offered to replace the van straight up. I was quite far away from the depot and they said they didn't have enough staff to bring me the replacement, so I had to drive it there when I was free later on. When I did get around to this, it was smooth sailing from there.
The second van seemed a bit older and much less grunty than the original van (maybe turbo is on its way out), but was still fine. The vans were clean and didn't smell. Enjoyable experience all up.

L.Second time using James Blond and happy to return to them as the process is so easy. Really easy to deal with and pick-up from the airport easy enough too. Only issue we had this time was that the radio had a tiny bandwith so didn't really work, so we picked up a couple of CDs only to find that this didn't work either. A bit annoying since we spent a lot of time on the road this trip & like to listen to music. Feel this is something that really should have been checked in the car first before hiring out. Nevertheless would still recommend them.
D.I hired a Super Economy small car for the day. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. I thought the cost for the hireage for the vehicle was reasonable but the price for a zero excess was excessive (normal excess $2000.00)
M.Very good prices are available over here possibly the lowest on the Auckland market especially because of the cheapest deposit, but to be fair the whole fleet is quite aged and the location is quite a bit fare from the main routes (I mean far fom the city centre, but it's up to where you are living)! A.We were offered a car well below the quality of the vehicle originally shown. The car was replaced by another one which looked much better however it had a Japanese GPS which could not be turned off and we were bombarded with Japanese instructions throughout the whole trip, which was very frustrating.

E.Thanks to James Blond we were able to replace a damaged van straight away! This time of the year we are extremely busy and with one van down our cash flow would have suffered straight away. James Blond was able to kit out the van in several hours and we installed a hot water cylinder the same day.

R.Hired a Toyota Corrola Estate from 12th December to end of January 2012. No hassle car hire, extended the hire twice by phone from 10 days to 41 days. Almost new car 3400k/m when collected. Economical and comfortable. Hired an optional Sat Nav but unnecessary as we only used it twice. Drop off at the airport went smoothly and was a great help. Would certainly recommend and use James Blond again.

If touring North go to Russell 3 Hours drive, look up Sail Haven as accomodation and Pacific Rendevous near Whale Bay , you will not be dissappointed. Rainbow Falls good and explore the coastine from Russell in all directions.

D.Online booking was fast and effecient, the truck was a bit old and the brakes grabbed fiercely, had to be very conscious of light foot on brake. Passenger window would not open. Staff seemed quite abrubt-ish, didnt feel like they were interested in making it a pleasant experience, rather more in rushing us thru the process, and saying what they had to say, as it seemed they had "more important" things to attend to. The price was the cheapest we found, and the truck did get the job done, There was just not the same "wow" factor, that we have found at other rental lots. A little more friendliness could go a long way towards enticing repeat patronage.

t.Just traveled through lightning, windy and wet roads, debris on road, a tree fully covering the road, 9 hrs on the road with half hour break, unpacked furniture and nek day returned to Auckland. Over a thousand kilometers, could not have afforded any other rental 4 ton truck for $900, and then on the return with full tank, received $200 back as bond. Oh and did I say that as this was Easter weekend, I got a friendly smile from Hayley with a complimentary chocolate Easter egg.

I.Was a bit expensive for only a few hours but the truck worked just fine. Book in advance otherwise all the automatics will be gone by the weekend.
