We have just finished a trip around northland in the MAD2. We had an absolute blast in the vans. The team at Mad Campers have thought through every small detail to ensure the trip is the best possible, from the comfortable large bed, ample storage space, fully functioning sink and water to the pull out kitchen & fridge. They really have thought of everything. You can tell that this is a product that has been developed by a team of people who are obviously passionate about travel and care for their customers experience. I wholeheartedly recommend Mad Campers for your next trip!

Had a blast on our 10 day South Island Camper trip. Highly recommend Mad Campers! The campers are great and comfortable, there was nothing that left us wanting as they really thought of everything. I suggest grabbing the mosquito nets for the windows - serious help against the sandflies! We had an issue with the original camper we were given, and despite it being a public holiday we had it swopped out and sorted within a couple of hours. Seriously amazing service!

Me and my partner had an absolutely amazing experience with Mad Campers!!. We were so close to not doing anything on Christmas & New Years holidays. We have a small car and can barely fit anything in it. Went on google to search for a camper van and Mad Campers was the first thing that popped up. Called the team straight away, we booked the MAD2 and left on the same day to explore the East Coast. That’s how easy the process was with such a chill and an awesome team. We have experienced camping in tents before but, using the Mad Campers was a whole new eye opening experience. Being able to experience multiple locations with Mad Campers as it was easy to pack up and head back on the road. It was so convenient. My fiancé LOVES listening to music and the sound system was just perfect!!. The kitchen had all the utensils that we needed, towels, pillows and blankets was included and the bed was reeeeally comfy. We were able to charge our phones and iPads overnight to use for the next day. No need to worry about storage, the roof top storage and also inside the van has plenty of storage for 2 people. Literally EVERYTHING you need is included. The van itself was super easy enough to drive. The Mad Campers team was very helpful, the service provided was just excellent with emails and phone calls from beginning till end of our 8days trip. Connor curly hair guy was taking us around and showing us where everything was also with the keys and today on our drop off, Andy was there to greet us with his big smile, super cool guy. THANK YOU TEAM!! Me and my fiancé had made memories in the MAD2 that we would never forget. Was truely the best holiday we’ve ever had!!. Would definitely use you guys again fam :). HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

We went on a convoy with 4 mad campers and had the BEST time, Andy has thought of everything you could need for your trip. The bed was super comfy, the kitchen has all utensils & enough room to cook your meals. Adding the table + chairs was perfect too. Overall experience 10/10! Mad Campers made our NZ tour amazing! You immediately become part of the ‘Mad’ family when you walk through the doors- everyone is so friendly and unbelievably helpful. Be it booking activities or letting us extend our van rental- every week for two months- they made life easy! So much thought had gone into the layout of the vans and you can tell when you’re living in it. The bed is so comfortable and also quite spacious! The kitchen is perfect- with two burners for cooking and a refillable has cylinder! The canopy was a great addition and definitely worth having for extra space and privacy! (And so easy to set up and put away). We had a lot of stuff and bags but had plenty of room! We were so well taken care of by Mad Campers and I can’t wait to go back and do it again! Do NZ in a Mad Camper!!

Mad Campers made my wife and my trip to New Zealand awesome! They gave us a very warm greeting when we arrived and made the check-in process and camper tutorial very easy. The van was a champ and did us well. Maybe it looks smaller than other campers you might see cruising around but it with its strategic placement of everything, it did not make us feel cramped. We slept well and were very warm with the blankets provided. My only note would be that the pillows be a little thicker (thats just my preference). The roof storage stored our two carry on sized luggage great and could even hold more if we wanted it to. When we wanted to take a tour somewhere we contacted Mad Campers and they quickly responded and were able to book us and for a cheaper rate. Before you book a tour somewhere make sure you check in with them to see if they get any discounts. We had the van for 16 days and cooked everyday at least one meal. We refilled the propane tank once over half way through and that was only $13 NZD. We didn't have a problem finding good free campsites most of the time. We wish we could have stayed longer! If we come back to New Zealand then we will definitely use Mad Campers again!

What an awesome company! There is truly no better way to experience New Zealand than by campervan. The Mad2 we rented had pretty much everything we needed. The kitchen set up was fantastic (we were really excited by the sharp cutting knife), the bed was warm and comfy, and the van was easy to drive. Sure, we struggled up the more steep hills but the van was small enough that it was rarely difficult to find a place to park. I wholeheartedly recommend Mad Campers to anyone planning a campervan trip in New Zealand! The rental was the right balance between luxury and budget, at least for us. Pickup and drop off of the van were both really easy. Mad Campers was organized and easy to work with. We picked up the "you're good" insurance and luckily didn't have to use it, so I can't speak to any of that. Also, do yourself a favor and do the Mad Challenge. It was fun, and got us to dig into the "Kiwi experience" while we were here. Can't recommend this company enough!

My boyfriend and I took our little Lucy (Yes, we named our van!) from North to South, approximately 3800 km, in September and it was a blast! Not only is NZ amazing, but Mad Campers is too. Lucy was spacious, the bed was surprisingly comfortable and utensils were sufficiently provided. We also ordered 2 camping chairs and a camping table, which I would definitely recommend as it enables you to eat on the beach and other amazing places! Moreover, the service provided by Mad Campers was really good. They took their time to explain every little aspect of the van, but also helped us plan our roadtrip with first hand, local information. Thank you so much, Matt! Though we didn't use them, the hot water bottles provided were a really nice touch, showing Mad Campers really cares about the experience as a whole. Indeed, details matter! We did have a little issue with our water pump, which had a minor leak. But it was fixed really quickly, as Mad Campers immediately contacted a garage in Wellington. All in all, a more than perfect experience with motivated Mad Camper guys. As we told them: we'll be back and we will definitely rent another campervan through Mad Campers! I spent over 3 weeks driving the cute little MAD1 (single person van). The bed is super comfy and the car is very easy to drive thanks to the small size. It’s certified self-contained so you can park it in any campsite even the very remote ones. The van is well organized and has everything you could need (dish soap, laundry powder, etc). Do it!

We rented an RV from Mad Campers for our 11 day / 3,500 km one-way road trip starting in Auckland and ending in Christchurch. We loved our little van - cleverly designed and m surprisingly spacious. The size of bed, the kitchen that pulls out in the back, the spare battery and the canopy were the highlights. I had the pleasure of taking ‘Bluey MAD1’ out of the paddock for 10 days. I had the best time. I felt warm safe and very content as a single travelling female. I free-camped in some breathtaking locations and truly had a real adventure. Bluey was so well equipped and handled like a dream. I spent a glorious 2.5 weeks ripping around New Zealand in two Mad Campers vans with three friends this summer. It ended up being one of the BEST trips to date! The vans are equipped with everything you could ever need because the Mad Campers team has thought of every little detail. They are easy to drive, spacious, new and goodlookin'! I will never forget the hospitality the team showed us throughout our entire experience. They always lent a helping hand with planning our roadtrip, gave local tips and put a smile on our faces. I rented a mad2 for 5 weeks of solo travel. It was perfect for me, it's small, but not too small, gas mileage is descent compared to larger vehicles. It came with everything I needed, blanket, sheets, pillows, fully stocked kitchenette, the refrigerator is of great size for a camper. It comes with a portable toilet, but flush toilets in NZ are plentiful and I never had to to use. The value of the rental is good compared to what's out there. It also saves you the hassle of buying and selling a camper which takes away from your adventure and time on the road. The customer service was good, and when I did something or had a question, it was always taken care of and quickly. "It's not a rocket ship", I kept it around 80km most of the time, and max 100-110km on straight road. Which is good for safety, because you need to be a defensive driver in NZ. It does take a few minutes to make and unmake the bed properly, but that's ok, because it's that way to maximize space for your journey. The storage unit on the roof is a huge help for extra space, not many campers have this...it's great for keeping your larger camping equipment, luggage, ruck sacks and bits and pieces that you'll only need here and there. The 2nd battery unit is great and lasts a long time...it never died on me, but I speculated it would of lasted me a full 3 days with no charge. It powers the refrigerator, blue tooth / radio, water pump and LED house lights. It powering the radio is a bit plus, because you could listen to music with the engine off and at all times. I did a lot of research for my 5 week trip on the road in New Zealand. I felt confident with this rental, and I was very happy with my decision, and would suggest it to anyone on the road for a short or long amount of time.

After three weeks, I was literally IN LOVE with my Mad1 and tried to keep her longer, but alas, it was the summer holidays in NZ and she was rented to another. I cried turning her in. She and I saw every inch of the south island together, crossed into the north on the ferry and made friends and memories in the campgrounds, cafes and along the roads of NZ that I will never forget. The Mad1 was easy to drive, cheap on gas and simple to camp in. I would recommend picking up your Mad1 in Christchurch and taking 3 weeks to see the south island - it was the experience of a lifetime for me. I'll be back...

Amazing company! My wife and I had a great New Zealand adventure in their car, the team was very helpful and we ended up having wonderful time traveling through the south and north islands. The car was very well thought-through and the bed was extremely comfortable (which was a worry for us as we are both rather tall). Also the Mad Challenge was a fun way to try out some new things. Epic NZ Adventure! after a 3 week trip at the end of 2020 is our little van around the northern part of the North Island that included Cape Reinga, the Coromandel Peninsula and Rotorua/Taupo, it was only natural to approach the team at Mad Campers for a further trip to explore the rest of gorgeous New Zealand. We spent a magical 3 months traveling in our little van and it was perfect knowing that Andy, Fer, Matt and the rest of the team were only ever a call away if we had any issues.... Our little van ran absolutely perfectly and we explored some amazing areas across New Zealand spending many a night in breathtaking campsites. LOVED my MAD1-Solo Traveller van! It was the prefect size for just me and it had everything I needed for my 2 week road trip. No car issues, easy to drive and navigate, and easy to park. One of my favorite features is the bluebooth audio. That kept me pretty sane during the long drives. I believe Mad Campers is the only company offering solo campervans so reserve early!

Honestly best customer service I’ve had when renting a vehicle, friendly and helpful staff! Had the Mad 2 for 2 weeks, was class everything you need in the van comfortable bed, cooking facilities, everything you need for the open road, was using the dish hose for a shower probably shouldn’t have been though 😅😂 also get the fully comp insurance because I scrapped the bumper and was glad I was, cheers for an awesome time 👍 Shaun

Hands down the best company to rent a campervan through!! They really care about their customers. My trip was very last minute and I tried booking a RV/ campervan during a holiday weekend in NZ and it was a nightmare. Everything was sold out! I was seriously debating whether or not I needed to cancel my whole trip. But I called Mad Campers one more time and they worked really hard to find me a campervan in another city and got me a relocation discount because I had to pay to fly to another city. They also booked a lot of my activities for me with a discount (2%-10%). I also forgot my passport in the safe and I only realized when I got to the airport at 9:30pm (and my flight was at 11:55pm). I called the number that they gave me and someone met me at the office after hours (they closed at 4pm) to find and give me my passport. I was able to board the plane. So all in all, if you are traveling alone or with another person in NZ, Mad Campers is the only way to go!!!!!!!! PS. the campervan is also very photoesque for all you IGers.

I spent 7 days road tripping around the North Island of New Zealand in the new MAD1 camper van. My entire experience with Mad Campers was awesome! The team who work there are classic Kiwi's, really nice and genuinely want to see you go out and have an epic adventure in NZ. I was mainly chasing waves throughout my trip and was unsure that I would have enough space inside the van for my surfboard and all the gear that I was travelling with. However, the MAD1 has a really clever design, making it super spacious with plenty of your room to store your gear when both driving and sleeping. I loved having the ability to sleep wherever and live in this camper van whilst still having the connivence of a small, easy to drive, fuel efficient little vehicle. I highly recommend the MAD1 to anyone travelling solo who wants to check out New Zealand or just go on a little adventure. I think this is a perfect choice of camper van for surfers who want to have the freedom to follow the swell wherever it's best. Yeow!

Mad Campers made my first ever solo adventure feel super safe and easy. They were incredible communicators, always available to answer my questions. When I arrived, they talked me through every detail of the van, and even let me drive around with them to ensure I felt comfortable driving on the left side of the road. I felt protected knowing that if any issues arose, they were always a phone call away. They even told me they'd drive out to meet me wherever I was if I had an emergency. The van was perfect, too. It had everything I needed, was incredibly comfortable, easy to drive, and attracted a lot of interested. Thank you for a grand adventure, Mad Campers!

Mad Campers made out New Zealand adventure fun and easy. The van was perfect for two people for twelve days. It made it possible for us to be as loose or structured as we wanted to be with our trip. Great little vans with all you need for a good trip. The vans are set-up very smart and everything you need is within hands reach. For instance the kitchen is at the back which leaves a lot of space in the van itself to move about, the little vans become quite spacious because of this. On top of this the kitchen has a good stove and he right cooking utilities. For sleeping the benches fold down to make a bed that is surprisingly comfy.The vans themselves drive great and don't feel run down at all. The best from Mad Campers however may not be the vans but their service. From picking up the van to dropping it of the service is very friendly. A good introduction to the van is given which gives you a lot of confidence to start your journey. Also if you have any questions during your journey they are quick to respond. Luckily I did not run into any trouble during my trip, but if that would have happened I have no doubt they would do anything to get you on the road asap. Overall great experience and I highly recommend Mad Campers.

From start to finish the customer service was brilliant, Fernando is such a nice, friendly and knowledgeable guy and made the process so easy. Picking up and dropping off the van was quick and easy, we were briefed on all the features and how to use everything, the fact that we had a sound system that could be linked to our phones via Bluetooth was also very helpful. I had big pleasure to drive one of Mad Campers van from CHC to AKL. 5 days to complete the journey. Great memories, great van, great set-up ... After I did my grocery shopping in CHCH realized I did`t buy salt and pepper. How to eat scrambled egg without bit of salt? Well no worries! Mad Capmers van has it all! Happy days. When you driving slow while enjoying landscapes of New Zealand and there is traffic behind you ... nobody beeps on you - because you are Mad Campers :) When you park your van on No Parking spot - don`t worry - you are Mad Campers! For my 4-week trip through New Zealand the MAD1 was perfect! I'm so glad, I found a Camper for just one person, because everey other camper would have cost me more money because of the fuel that bigger cars need. The car was supre reliable and the bed really comfy. The fridge had the perfect size for my needs and the water tank a good ammound of fresh water. The service is ecellent and even before my arrival I got some tipps and thoughts for my stay. The staff is really friendly (in both offices) and helps you arrange your ferry-crossing or other trips you may have in mind. It's like a big family and I felt welcome from the first second! road trip around New Zealand really is a one in a lifetime experience. I was lucky enough to venture to Mount Cook, a place i've been meaning to tick off the list for a while. Mad Campers was fantastic in their service of showing me around the van, it's features and uses, getting me set to go on the road. We had a great experience with mad campers! We will use them again. We hired a two person camper and drove it all around the top end of the north island. The camper was built great and they even provide you with bedding, pillows, towels and pans ect. Using a mad camper is like having a little travelling community around you whenever you see the other mad campers. Would 100% recommend using this campers company!! :)

What a way to see the North Island. All I needed was some food and gas and we're off. The people at Mad Campers provided just the most enjoyable van riding/sight seeing thing. We had a fantastic trip renting from Mad Campers! Everything was as advertised and the team was super accommodating and exceptionally responsive (no matter how many times you contact them while on the road)! Everyone on the team was very nice and incredibly helpful. We also appreciated the size of the van. They even helped with booking our ferry from Picton to Wellington. Enough space for storage underneath for bags and food (and beverages of choice), a nice sized cooler, and the van is small enough to drive and get around! The price was very reasonable and we would definitely recommend using Mad Campers to anyone looking to travel around NZ and see all that the country has to offer!

Mad Campers is superbly rad! Booking with them was easy, getting updates from them were constant, and when we finally met them in the Christchurch branch we were stoked to be renting with them. We knew we made the right decision. Right off the bat, our service rep and master mechanic Elliot welcomed us and kindly showed us through road rules and what to do and what not to do with the DOC. We had already driven 1200 k's in North Island, and we were very familiar with road rules, but Elliot was great with reminding us of those rules and then also going over our vehicle. He allowed us to film the campervan walkthrough and was super cool with getting everything setup and places to go and see. Super chill dude and officemates in the Christchurch office, hats off to you all! We had such a blast going everywhere with Lindsey (the name we came up since its number plate started with LSY, but her real name is North Head). She made it up Arthur's pass without eating too much petrol and was fine going through the northern way through Queenstown with excellent brakes and stopping ability, and glided through some wet rainy conditions down to Milford Sound from flow control of brake happy Asian tourists! We will be back and I would definitely love to spend a few days helping to do maintenance and maybe we could do some awesome retrofits or improvements! Or likewise come on down to Hawaii! My partner and I chose Mad Campers because we saw such fantastic reviews online and the Mad2 looked perfect for us on the website. It is fair to say that we were not disappointed!! The communication we had with Fernando was fantastic. He was able to adjust the booking for us multiple times due to changing circumstances and there were no problems at all. The team was unbelievably responsive, even late at night! We were given a brilliant explanation on how to do everything in the van which meant we could leave confidently and with piece of mind that if we did happen to be unsure of anything we could just contact the team and they would be available to help us wherever we were. The campervan is equipped with everything you need- the perfect set up for any trip length! Plus, the bed is super comfy!! Andy and the team go above and beyond to make sure you have everything you need, and the campers are fully kitted-out, super comfy and very well maintained. We had a great experience with Mad Campers. The staff was really polite and answered all our questions both online and in person. The van worked well, it had everything advertised and it was in pretty good shape. We only had one issue with the van and it was that the fridge didn't work when the van was not running but it did work when the van was on (i.e., when we were driving). Unfortunately, we realised this a couple of days after we had started our trip and given that it was during the end of year holidays and we were pretty far from Christchurch already they couldn't do anything about it when we called them. This was a bit annoying but it didn't ruin our experience. They were very sorry about this issue and gave us a significant refund once we returned the van so all in all it was a positive result. We'd definitely rent from them again on our next trip.

I can't say enough good things about Mad Campers! I had the pleasure to cruise around New Zealand in one of their MAD2 campers and it was the perfect way to explore the south island! They even had a lock box to keep valuable safe, coming from Canada it was a super nice touch as I was able to leave my passport in the van without a worry! Wow! If you are not renting a camper from Mad campers for your trip to New Zealand, you are wrong. We rented one of their campers for 6 weeks and were more than satisfied with our kiwi experience. The camper itself was well-organized, clean and spacious, but also small enough that you don't have to worry about having to drive a huge car around. Throughout those 6 weeks, we had no technical problems with it, which also showed how the camper is well maintained. Customer service was impeccable, which definitely made a difference. Everyone we dealt with was friendly and very helpful. They helped us book tickets where we wanted, gave us some local tips and responded quickly to all our inquiries. We had an amazing experience with Mad Campers. We hired a MAD2 for 2 weeks, their customer service is the best I've ever experienced with a company. From my initial enquiry, booking, pick up and drop off, everything was explained clearly and in a friendly manner. You can tell the company really care that you enjoy your visit to New Zealand. This is our first time staying in a camper (we usually camp in a tent), but we are truly converted and now looking at possibly buying a van to convert ourselves! The van looked like new on this inside, everything is thought through really well. It was so easy to put the bed up and down that we put it away every day to have the sofas, then popped it back out just before bed. The roof box held our 2 wheelie suitcases and there was enough storage to keep our clothes inside, which was great. We hired the canopy and would really recommend this. It easily popped on the back and meant we could cook in the kitchen in the evening without being attacked by bugs. It also gave us protection from the rain and wind (we only had bad weather for a couple of days, but having this protection so we could cook comfortably without getting wet was great). The second battery is a great idea. Being able to charge our mobile and keep the fridge cold (without worrying about the battery of the van) was excellent. Overall a fantastic experience. We just wished we could have stayed longer. Thanks Mad Campers!

Mad Campers made our NZ tour unforgettable! Greeted by a very friendly welcome & a thorough walk through of our new home for the next 4 weeks. Van life takes some getting used to, but their design is really well thought out which we appreciated a lot! Definitely recommend the table & chairs as they're easy to stow/take out. The canopy was a handy addition, but we didn't need it routinely; usually just for cooking at night to help keep critters at bay or else on a rainy day. Worth noting that all their vans come with a roof box too - very useful for the stuff you cart around but don't use much! Point worth noting - there's no mains outlet nor power hook up, so best to try and bring usb charged devices. Alternatively use the mains plugs in campsites. The MAD2 is on the smaller side of the vans you'll see driving around NZ, but that suited us just fine and made life so much easier when going through towns/cities & want to stop off. Just find a normal parking spot & you're good! Drop off in Christchurch was straightforward, even included them calling us an Uber to take us to the airport! Would definitely use these guys again, and hope that I'm back in NZ in the not too distant future to be able to do so...

My wife and I spent 10 days traveling in a Mad Camper and were absolutely blown away. Although we have driven around the South Island in other camper vans, this was our first trip in the winter. And it was, by far, the best trip to date! I highly recommend a winter trip if you're considering it! There were no sand flies and far less tourists to contend with. In our experience, Mad Campers is very attentive to their renters needs. They provided extra blankets and hot water bottles that kept us plenty warm on the cold nights. You can tell that they have put a lot of thought into the design and functionality of the van. They were also very attentive to our post-trip feedback and seem to take every oppertunity to improve the vans. The kitchen came with everything you need, stove, stovetop toaster, extra gas, dishes and cutlery, cutting board, dish washing brush, dish soap, salt, pepper, and a REAL chef knife. The two-berth camper is the perfect size for two people and it's easy to maneuver around those small New Zealand roads. Also, unlike many other campers here, you can actually park it in a normal parking space without hassle. It was all a very personable experience. We felt like we were actually dealing with a company that cared about our experience. Would definitely recommend Mad Campers and will happily travel with them again!

My Wife and I rented a 2 berth Campervan from Mad Campers, and were extremely pleased with our experience! From the time of check-in & orientation, to the minute that we returned the van to Christchurch......there was always a Staff member to assist and answer any questions. The excellent customer service ratings was the main deciding factor for us, and this crew did not disappoint! We are from the United States, and we are "Van Campers" here, so this type of rental was right up our alley. Two of us traveling with one large backpack each and smaller carry on backpacks, and we had plenty of room for everything. Our journey began at Christchurch, and from there we toured the South Island for 10 days. The Van (we nicknamed him "Frodo") was a great size, and got really good gas mileage. It also had an extremely tight turning radius, something that was very useful in tight campgrounds and parking lots. We had a minor issue with a circuit breaker that was linked to the auxiliary battery, but the Mad Campers team responded immediately to our calls, and helped us to get this issue resolved quickly. Recently, they added the rooftop box and rack to each 2 berth van at no charge, and this was a HUGE help! We were able to store our table, chairs, and toilet atop the vehicle.....which left more room in the main cabin. We had extremely great weather during our visit, and spent very little time in the van except for sleeping and driving. This allowed us to keep the bed assembled the entire time, and we used the sofa/table configuration minimally. If you are a couple that wants to travel with minimal gear, and travel light and fast.....these guys are for you! Thanks to the Mad Campers Team!

We had a Mad2 for 28 days this summer and I would totally recommend this company. The Van itself is perfectly small, so you don't have to be afraid of driving a big car, but it has enough space for relaxing and your luggage as well. We haven't had any breakdown or likewise at all. The interior is well-thought out and has all you need. Although be aware, that either one of you has to sleep on the side of the sink, so be small or cuddle a lot. The kitchen-equipment is mostly accessible when the back-door is open, so if you are planning to cook a lot, look for good weather, otherwise the chief is exposed to the elements. Btw. the light inside is really bright and you can't dim it, so if you wanna read a book at night, maybe you should bring a smaller pocket lamp with you. The Team of Mad Campers is helpful and usually pretty quick with answering your mails etc. After the long flight from Europe we got picked up from the airport and felt very welcome. Even after returning the van we could charge our batteries at their office and get some rest before heading back to the airport. All in all really friendly and helpful company with good vans. I would rent a van again.

Absolutely incredible company and team that I can’t recommend highly enough. Easily 5* I did a last minute two week solo trip in a MAD1 and it was amazing. The camper was so well kitted out and every inch of space utilised. It was still pretty chilly at night during my trip but they’d provided a hot water bottle, fleece blanket and had doubled up on the duvets too so there was no issue there. The camper itself felt super spacious inside and pulling the front seat forward at night made it feel even bigger. Being a solo traveller camper, so the size of a regular car, meant you could park almost anywhere and it was easy to drive on the windy NZ roads. The bed was really comfortable and interior was spotless and smelt fresh, they clearly take their standards seriously and it definitely showed. I loved the extra small touches like being provided with washing up liquid, cooking oil and laundry powder. The team itself were amazing, always on hand when needed and able to organise additional activities at a discounted price on request. They were also able to give me lots of advice on the best hotspots to visit during my trip. I’d definitely travel with them again. Thank you for making my trip so amazing!

I really cannot express how much fun it was to get to explore NZ (both islands) for almost 3 weeks in the MAD1. I fell in love not only with the country but also with the car. It is the perfect size when travelling alone, has everything you need (even a sharp cutting knife, very excited about that) and more, and it is so easy to feel at home. The bed is comfy and larger than you expect, and if you flip around you can see the stars through the front window at night. The fact that you can comfortably sit inside on the back seat when the nights are too cold to sit outside is just awesome. Good Amount of space, good fuel economy and the smaller size was helpful in getting into places other vans wouldn't be able to go. I found it comfortable and easy to drive. The only things that could be improved (small things): a cup holder for the driver seat, a coffee press and including an extra blanket or pillow on request. I would recommend this van for any solo traveler.

We hired a Mad Camper for 3 weeks and drove from Christchurch up to Auckland (the long way round). We were generally very happy with everything. The van was very comfortable and soon became a second home. The fit out in the back was to a high standard and cleverly done. It was also clear that care had been taken over the small details, for example the kitchen knife had been freshly sharpened. We met other people who had hired with alternative companies and we're unimpressed with sloppy fit out, missing bits and pieces and uncomfortable beds etc. We had none of these problems. One thing to mention is regarding fuel consumption. Our vehicle was a 2008 Nissan Vanette with 111000 kms on the clock when we picked it up. In total we drove 3119km and spent 700NZD on fuel (approx 359 litres), so we got about 8.7km per litre. This was way worse than I'd expected having done some reading up on standard road tests for this model. This isn't just an issue for Mad Campers but old camper vans in general, so consider this when budgeting! For a young company Mad Campers are doing a great job, would definitely recommend.

We had an amazing couple of weeks cruising around the North and South Island in our Mad2 (Mt Lincoln). We did a bunch of research and was tempted to go with one of the bigger brands (we had previously had a Spaceship and Wicked Camper in Oz). But after reading all the reviews, comparing photos and pricing there was only one winner. The camper van was literally spotless when we picked it up, we were given a personalized tour of the van and didn’t feel rushed at all- we even were given two T-shirt’s to complete our Mad Camper challenge and chocolate!! The van had relatively low mileage and you could tell it had a recent facelift. We booked campsites all around NZ, so we only used the gas burner a couple of times, but when we did it was super easy and fast. The bed only took 2mins to set up and was very comfortable. There was plenty of storage for two of us. We did stay at one freedom campsite as we had the self contained sticker (didn’t use the toilet onboard once, but it’s there for emergencies). A massive bonus is that the van has two batteries. One that starts the car and operates headlights etc. the second operates the fridge, LED lights in the back and power outlets inc. USB’s. So you don’t have to worry about the van not starting in the morning or paying extra for a powered spot at a campsite. After seeing the Juicy/Spaceship/Wickeds, we were so happy with our decision! Many of the other campervans looked run down and identical to what we rented a few years ago! We completed the Mad Camper challenge (doing things like eating fish and chips on a beach with your MadCamper T-shirt on and posting it on Instagram) it was fun to do and we got 5% off our rental! I don’t write many reviews, but felt compelled to for Mad Campers as it’s such a cool company and made our trip so easy!

This may well be the world's nicest car rental agency! Our van was great, certainly above par with nice extras (great stove, running water/ shower, awesome fridge, comfy bed, spotless) and mad campers are very accommodating for extra requests (roof rack for 2 mountain bikes was great). Best of all was their passion to make our holiday great -- thanks so much guys and we hope to be back!

I rented a MAD1 for a week in Christchurch. Iris has been a doll with me and showed me how the van worked etc - she really took the time to explain everything. About the van, it is a pleasure to drive it. It is more than enough for 1 person, got everything you need to cook yourself some nice meals (it even has a fridge!!) and has an amazing bed (I might be biased as I experienced another campervan with a less comfy bed ^^'). I had a flat tyre on the second day and couldn't call them as I didn't have a NZ number, so I messaged them on FB and got an answer immediately. Hannah was the one who helped me with the situation and got everything sorted out (mechanic, etc.). Overall, I am pleased with the van and the service and definitely recommend them!

I wil recommend Mad Campers to anybody who travels to NZ and want to have a awesome time there...Excellent service (we had a flat tire, and where in the neighbourhood) they replaced all 4 tires for new ones, got great tips for our last 5 days in the North island NZ which where absolutely stunning! received a generous gift for the inconveniences and waiting which we spend on an absolutely stunning campsite and a drink. Me and my girlfriend went on a roadie in a Mad Camper in March and had the best time exploring the amazing country that is NZ. The vans are amazing! The layout is so clever and means that you actually feel like you have a lot of space inside the van. We had the roofbox and the canopy added extras and I would really recommend both. The roofbox means that you have even more space inside the van and the canopy is just a great idea as it makes cooking in the rain and at night a lot easier. Alongside the great vans, the guys who work hear are great, they’ll go to amazing lengths to help you out and it’s a really personal experience renting through them. The vans are easy to drive and you will end up falling in love with yours, we ended up naming ours Betty...all in all a campervan roadie is the best way way to see NZ and Mad Campers are definitely the best camper company to use! We spent a month in a Mad Camper for our honeymoon - we had the most amazing time, and those boys a Mad Campers made it a breeze for us. From the fiendishly designed camper van features, to their unerring customer service, the whole experience was a pleasure. We were completely disorganised, but they accommodated our request to extend our rental twice...we just didn't want to move out of that van! We did pretty much all our own cooking, using the van's facilities. The van was totally reliable, and we did over 4000 kms in it, and went off tamac onto the gravel roads quite frequently, but it was solid as a rock. We left NZ feeling like they had really cared about us having a fabulous time... and we did! Thank you so much!

Amazing company. Had a great time in their neat little van. Combines convenience of travelling and parking wherever you want with all the facilities you need (fridge, water, sink, storage, music, really good usb charging compatible with fast charging). No issues with the van at all - it had 150k kilometers on the clock but handled very well and was fun to drive! Hannah and the team saved our bacon when I left my liscence at home and it was held up in customs. Hannah spent a couple of hours researching ways to get us on the road and we got away on time! Really pleased with their excellent customer service. The mad challenge is also really fun and a good way to get some money back!

I tried rating 6 stars, but Google didn't allow it! I only have ONE REGRET with Mad Campers... I didn't book long enough 🤪 My experience was absolutely INCREDIBLE from beginning to end. I rented my van a few months ahead through their Instagram page @madcampersnz I rented for a few weeks in February 2018. Arriving at the Mad Campers Auckland location, I was greeted by, Andy. Andy briefed the group on how some of the things in the van function like, the Bbq, water reservoir, bedding and seating, and all the compartments, and a real treat; the outside roof that attatches to the back of the van incase it rained. Definitely a plus+++ As a business owner myself, I immeditaly sensed how Andy and his team had a genuine PASSION for what their building and branding within Mad Campers. It was absolutely refreshing to see how they really love what they do!!⚡ I was fortunate enough to travel both islands in my van, and dropped off in the south island city of Christchurch. The drop off was easy and efficient, just make sure to refill your water tank, clean up the van, and bring back everything the way it was. 🚿🚽💎 I drove well over 5000km in total, my van never broke down, I never had any issues whatsoever, and my adventure was pure bliss thanks to, Mad Campers! What a journey in N-Z! And big part of that is because of Mad Camper. From the start to the end, camper van crew and the van itself were awesome. They take care of you from the very beginning until the end. They are there to answer all of your questions and to help you with everything. There recommandations are really welcome and great. The van is fantastic. Small and basic format but really well thinked and all you really needs for a great journey. Reliable and efficient van. It did 10 l/km in average (checked almost at every filled up). I will definitely come back and take Mad Camper again.

My wife and I had 10 days off and we decided we wanted to spend that time traveling around the north Island. after searching on the internet we saw various posts of the Mad Challange on Facebook. I work as a concierge in Auckland and part of my job is to know what companies are around and how there service is. I must admit my wife and I were very unprepared for a trip in a campervan, however Hannah who assisted us in the branch ran us trough the entire van, how it operated and how it was set-up. she really showed her passion for the job and wanted us to leave the branch full of confidence. after the run trough we felt at ease and ready for our adventure. we visited New Plymouth and saw the Festival of Lights, we also hiked Mount Taranaki. after that we went to Wanganui and last but not least we decided to sample some nice wines in the Hawkes Bay. Because the campervan is self contained we were very fortunate to stay at some beautiful spots around the Southern Part of the North island Sleeping in the van was very comfortable and with all the extra features in the van such as; usb inports,led lights, a small fridge and running water it felt like our home away from home. we would definitely recommend Mad Campers to anyone who is ready for an adventure! Great service and a great product! Thank you to Andy and Hannah for assisting where we needed help!

We just stayed 8 weeks in the MAD camper van and it was great! The camper is pretty good to live in and the bed is comfortable. The organisation is very good. If you have any problem they find a solution for it very quick and they are very friendly. I defently will recommend Mad campers and the Mad Challenge is fun!

Excellent bits of extra thought goes into the van with a small pot of oil for cooking and washing up liquid for the pots. They really do have everything covered. And Great value!!!
