We rented a Nissan Leaf from Mode for almost three weeks as we drove around New Zealand to catch up with family. We were very happy to be able to rent an electric vehicle so could ensure that we were doing our bit to make sure as tourists we were minimising the emissions we created when travelling. The car was great - excellent boot space for a family of four. Plenty of pep and go and easy to drive. My tips for renting a nissan leaf car in NZ are to not plan long trips for one day. Rent at an additional cost a charger with a three pin connection so you can charge up over night and then set off for your day and minimise your range anxiety. Also note that while New Zealand has a good network of chargers with Charge Net these chargers do go down and can take several days or a week to repair so having your own charger will mean you have an option if the local charger is not working. From what I hear there are another 60 charging spots through out NZ planned for the next 12 months so the network will only get stronger.

Picked the car up at Christchurch. Clean and tidy. Took us around the Sth Island on our road trip for 3,000 KMs without a problem. Extended our return time by a few hours when flight was changed at no extra charge. Great service. Very happy and would definitely recommend.

It was a lot to have to do paper work before I picked up the car. They kept calling me about it, texts and leaving messages. I didn't really have time for it but I made time because they said my van might not be ready if I didn't. I had to fill out the forms online, scan in the front and back of my license. I thought it would save time during pick up but it did not. Pick up still took ages! I rent cars a lot and the company I usually deal with make the pick up process so easy because I get the best insurance. I only came to Mode because my normal place doesn't have vans. Hopefully now that I've done the paper work I am in the system and the pick up process will be easier for me next time. The van was good. It was clean and drove well. Thank goodness drop off was easy.

I rented a Nissan Leaf for 4 weeks and it was great. Picking up the car from the Auckland Airport branch took just 3 minutes and I was on my way. Towards the end of the first 2 weeks I decided to extend my hire - I scored a better deal and was able to hold on to the car without problems. I must add that __mode is one of only a few places where you can rent a high spec EV (Japanese import) for a very fair price. With the current petrol prices, this is by far the most economic and best value rental option.

When picking up car it was exceptionally clean and over the 5 weeks we had it, it never gave any trouble. This is not the first time we have rented a car from Mode and will certainly do it again, on our next trip to NZ in September. Would not hesitate to recommend Mode to anyone.

Service was good and fast. They are not at the airport but pick you up with their van. Cars are not the latest models but we'll maintained. Good experience overall.

Pickup from the Akld airport was prompt. Friendly and helpful service when collecting the car. Car was a Corolla Fielder, a bit old but no problems with it. Auto gearbox seemed a bit sluggish but worked ok. At drop-off there was no driver for the airport shuttle but they ordered an Uber (which Mode paid for) so we had a short wait. Again friendly staff. The price we paid was quite a bit less than other companies so good value.

Hired a RAV4 from Mode Queenstown. Great service. Easy pick up and drop off at Queenstown airport. Great car, friendly service, excellent value.

-Auckland CBD Pickup and Auckland Airport drop off The CBD location is convenient and pickup experience is smooth and fast since we did the online checking in advance. On drop off the staffs are kind and helpful in finding the petrol station location and taking a shuttle van to airport on time for us. -Feedback My advice would be able to provide a general map around your airport location, since the area has multiple roundabouts and is easy to get lost unless using GPS. -Great staff Would like to say special thanks again to the CSR? or Manager? Jerry who keeps providing clear and useful information and help us with the reservation from the beginning through phone calls, emails and meet us up at the CBD for pickup, would like to use Mode again after the NZ border open to the rest of the world again, and hope I can still meet your fantastic team the next time, it has been a very pleasant rental experience.

Great, efficient, 'smooth as' service. No problems with the car at all and it was cheap to run. The little baby took us hassle free, wherever we want to go. Very nice, friendly and easy to deal with staff. Keep up the good work. Highly recommend!

Our family flew to Auckland from Aussie and the USA for a funeral. We rented two affordable vehicles from Mode for two weeks. Because of flight changes beyond our control, we had to change our booking several times. Mode staff were very patient and flexible with our changes. We rented a lovely Rav4 that was perfect for transporting our disability equipment. The car drove beautifully and was very economical with petrol. Vini went out of his way to ensure we kept that car throughout our flight changes that affected rental vehicle bookings. The second car was older but cheaper and suited the family member who drove it. It also drove well. We were able to return the car outside of office hours and we all used the free shuttle service provided by Mode to and from the airport. We will definitely rent cars from Mode again when we visit NZ again. Special thanks to Vini who went out of his way to provide vehicles that met our needs perfectly. Highly recommend Mode rentals at Auckland airport. They do a great job in these confusing travel times and manage changes well. Good people.

Brilliant company to deal with so far. Jerry, branch customer service representative, has been professional, patient and co-operative dealing with us with changing our booking during the pandemic lockdowns and travel bubble with NZ & Australia. He has emailed promptly and taken our calls. We look forward to picking up our car in the coming days and so far are very impressed with the level of service from this company. We will look to add to our review in the coming months.

Was a little hard to get through on the line once we arrived at the airport but five stars because once we arrived at mode the staff were friendly and efficient. Couldn't believe how fast the whole process was!

Rented an intermediate car from Mode through HolidayAutos. Got a Toyota Corolla with some scratches but that was fine. Very affordable rental, the car was reliable on our road trip. Would rent again from this company!

After hours pick up and drop off was super easy. All communication was very easy. We hired the Toyota Highlander and it was in great nick and very clean. Very happy and will definitely hire from them again.

Affordable, plenty of options and the Rav4 we used to drive 3000km ran reliably without a hitch.

Easy experience from start to finish. Had noted a $3000 bond in the T&C's which I called their team regarding - they advised that this could be reduced by selecting a different insurance option. They explained that this could all be arranged on arrival. We opted to changed the insurance coverage at their offices like they had advised and paid a smaller bond fee which we were pleased with. Car was decent enough, had no issues with it at all - and we drove to Cape Reinga, Bay of Islands and Gisborne within 10 days and put a lot of miles on it and didn't have one mechanical issue. It was also very cheap to run on petrol which was an added bonus. We didn't have to wait for a shuttle back to the airport when we returned the car as they dropped us off straight away in the car we had rented from them so we didn't have to wait. Bond was returned immediately and would definitely book again. Thanks guys :)

I had an okay experience with this rental company. Prices are very competitive and the shuttle from the airport to the rental agency location was quick and painless. I also found the customer service good, especially the manager of the Auckland Airport location. I received an older model car (which I had expected) and was fine with based on the price. Had a few problems with the car. The fob to lock/unlock the car did not work and neither did locking/unlocking the vehicle with the physical key either. The key only worked if it was twisted on a certain angle in the lock which took me about a week to figure out. Near the end of the trip I also had a problem with the battery. After having the car parked for 2 days at my hotel and not using it I came out to find a flat battery. After half a day of dealing with AA and them recommending I return the car, I received a new one from the airport location. A word of caution, you have to pay the AA callout fee yourself which ranges from $90-$120 and is only reimbursed if it is determined you are not at fault for the battery issue (which I was not). There is also no mode rental locations other than Auckland and Wellington on the North Island. I was lucky enough to be in Auckland when the battery died to switch vehicles but this could have been a huge problem had I still been outside the city. I was compensated for the half day and was pleased with the service at the airport location. I don’t think I could have found a better price for a rental car so if a few quirks with the vehicle does not bother you this agency would work fine. If you want an agency with a fleet of only brand new vehicles and rental locations all across the North Island should something happen then this would not be for you.

Just hired Nissan Leaf 2nd generation for 2 days as wanted to try driving an EV. Staff (Gerry) was very helpful in explaining all about how to get the best from the car. Car was in great condition and all went well. Would highly recommend.

I arrived after hours but called the hotel where my car was and they promptly sent me a shuttle. Pickup was easy and the car was reliable throughout my six days. It was also the best rate by far. Dropoff at their office was also easy and their shuttle was on hand to take me to the airport immediately as I was running tight with time. Would highly recommend to all.

The cost of the hire of my Mazda for 16 days was very good indeed. The service I received from Brook when I picked the Mazda up was excellent in every way and it was lovely to see hear when I did the airport drop off. She could not have been more helpful. Thank you Brooke

Kia Ora to Mode and their customer service people. Being picked up from the Auckland domestic airport and transported to their rental car service area, saved anxiety issues as I came from the South Island and am unfamiliar with the area. Secondly having Dilip as a customer service person, whom went beyond the usual customer service person. He had patience and understanding of my technological knowledge ( Google maps) instructed me on how to use this technological tool. The Estima I hired was clean and tidy and drove well with no issues. On return being Covid level 3, there was someone on hand to receive the vehicle. Much gratitude to Mode for their service. I will be highly recommending them to all and will certainly be back to rent again. Nga Mihi

Overall a good experience with Mode. I picked up and returned a premium SUV in Christchurch, it was a near new Toyota Rav 4 and just what I was expecting. Mode were very prompt and helpful with their email replies. Mode is one of the only companies that hire to Australian green P plates and I couldn’t be more thankful for that.

Service was excellent. Hassle free, straightforward transaction and the process was smooth and user friendly. The branch in Auckland CBD is conveniently located walking distance from the train station. Bus and Port especially if you get off from a cruise. Well maintained car, clean at an excellent price. I highly recommend using this company to all my friends, workmates and social media. We will definitely book from mode car rental again.

Very pleased with Rav4 and service. Having a good and reliable car made an important contribution to the enjoyment of our visit to both islands of NZ. It was a 10 week trip, taking our RAV4 from cape Reinga to Bluff, after starting at Auckland. On receipt in central Auckland __Mode and we checked the car and, as there were a number of minor existing scratches and dings (it had done ~50000km when we got it) we took photos. We returned it clean; there were no additional charges on our bill after the return and no unexpected charges to the credit-card. The free ___mode map of NZ was a good one; the ___mode navigator (an extra) was hardly used and had an annoying dangling charging wire so we tended to use Google Maps. In fairness, however, the navigator sometimes identified our GPS location more accurately. The RAV4 was a delight to drive, responsive, high wheelbase, AWD (all wheel drive) which was great for the occasional dirt road. It did use a fair amount of fuel (2.5l engine, perhaps?) but, hey, you can't have everything. The AirCon was effective, though the fan was a bit noisy. The Rav4 proved reliable during our visit over, perhaps, 7000km giving us no trouble at all and starting immediately every time. The boot space is not huge but was enough for all the gear for 2 of us over that time, including groceries, tramping gear and rucksacks, photographic kit and the occasional hitch-hiker, in addition to the usual clothing. The photos show it in various places from the Bay of Islands to Southland and the Marlborough wine lands.

I'd like to repeat the previous reviewers comments. We hired an "older" car and it was perfectly adequate. Pickup and return to/from Christchurch airport using their agent Airpark Canterbury was a painless experience. The deposit held on my credit card was cleared promptly after returning the vehicle and the hire charge was as expected. Will use Mode again. Thanks.

Great, friendly service and excellent vehicles. A little way from the airport but there is free pickup and drop off. Any inconvenience is more than made up for by the excellent prices which are far better than the big name companies.

The vehicles on offer are affordable and seemed clean and new enough. The shuttle service was prompt and the check in and out service is straightforward.

My parents tried to hire a car from Auckland Branch. They had a demio which was at run down condition with lights not working, They tried to contact the office and later they went in the next working day. The staff named Jomy helped very much and upgraded them to a new demo which was really helpful

I have hired the older "economy" cars and have found them perfectly adequate and in surprisingly good condition. The pricing is very competitive, but I don't get the impression that anything is being sacrificed for this. The shuttle transfer was prompt and the staff very helpful. Recommended.

Rented from mode twice now, and both times they have been outstanding, highly recommend as they are great value for money! Alterations to the booking was no worries, as I was due to arrive.later than expected (3 days) and they were prompt with emails and understanding of my situation. Car was clean and tidy. Our family of five hired a 10 seater bus (really just a small van - auto, easy drive) for a week, having previously had good experiences with Mode. The car went well and the extra room was very welcome. All in all, a very good rental experience, including the prompt and friendly pickups from airport. Thank you.

First time I had used Mode Rentals. Was attracted by the competitive pricing and to be honest was nervous to begin with what I was getting myself into with such cheap car rentals. However I had no issues at all with Mode and would not hesitate about using them again and recommending to friends and family

First up, my car was AUD$85 for 5 days, so super cheap. The car did make it with no problems, but it was uncomfortably noisy when I was in traffic or at traffic lights. I was nervous about its roadworthiness. The bond is $2,821, which I was not advised of when I picked it up & don't recall authorising. I only noticed today when I got home. Im not sure how long it will take to be put back on my credit card.

We rented an 8-seater Japanese import Nissan van for two weeks to drive all around the North Island. It was ten years old with low mileage and ran perfectly with great brakes. We purchased a converter cable to play mp3s through the Japanese GPS system. We were very pleased with our vehicle and felt we received excellent value for our money. I have rented every year for 18 years when it was Alternative Rental Cars. i was always extremely satisfied. Although the new owners operate more like Hertz/Avis, wanting more security, such as 10% deposit and 3,000.00 bond etc. the level of service and quality of the vehicle was excellent. i would rent from them again. Rented a campervan from Mode back in November 2018. It was a used Toyota Estima. The van was the perfect size for the windy offside roads and easy to maneuver. The service was fast and straightforward. Extremely friendly and nice, very informative. The bedding was comfortable. Utensils, foldable chairs and usual camping gear were available. The only thing I recommend is maybe redesign their shelving/organizing compartments. It was like a jigsaw puzzle and quite annoying to assemble on a daily basis. The blinds were a nuisance. The suction cup kept popping in the middle of the night, hence, I wish it was a sliding curtain instead.

Good price, good vehicle, efficient service. We were told up front that the "no worries" level of insurance didnt cover us for single vehicle events.(It was relatively cheap) I dont know whether this is standard. Fortunately it wasnt an issue but I have never been aware of this before.

We rented our car from mode-rentals for a 3-week tour around NZ. Pickup was at their Auckland City-branch and was done without any problems. The car was a Ford Territory, which was already from 2015, but in good condition. The car had enough space for all of our luggage and 4 persons. Only the windshield-whippers really need a replacement and our GPS crashed down during the trip. Besides this the car was great to drive and helped us well on our long journey. We dropped it off at Christchurch airport, using their service partner (there is no Mode-rental-branch in CHC). Return was smooth and without any problems. All in all we can really recommend mode-rentals!

Ebenso die Rückgabe bei Mode Rentals. Ich würde jederzeit wieder bei Mode Rentals mieten. Das Preis Leistungsverhältnis war top! Mein Tipp an Mode Rentals: Nehmt untyptisch für Neuseeland Dieselfahrzeuge auf. Damit würdet ihr euch noch mehr von anderen Vermietern abgrenzen. Diesel sind sparsamer und der Treibstoff ist mit 0,90€ im Vergleich zu Benzin mit 1,25€ viel billiger und somit für Urlauber die viel fahren intressant. Kein Vermieter bietet meines Wissens gezielt Dieselfahrzeuge an.
