Booked a camper hire from spaceship through an agent. The agent then cancelled the order leaving me and Spaceship in the dark. Spaceship spent time finding out exactly what happened and - even through this was clearly not their issues - offered a good discount for the inconvenience. Thanks you, that's great service.

We rented Beta Standard Camper-van (Mr. Krabs) for 26 days. It was a great experience. It was a great deal for us. Definitely cheaper than similar companies. We had no problem even if the car was not self contained. Easy contactless pick up and drop off. The car was so clean and tidy. We drove it for almost 7,000 kms across New Zealand. We spent 24 nights in the car. No complaints. The bed was comfortable. Did not get cold in it. Just the kitchen stuff was a bit old. Did not want to use the thermos.

Amazing customer service, We booked our van for this month and due to covid it got cancelled, then we moved our date to October but due some issue we can't make it again. Then I contacted customer service today, the person on the other side called MAREE, She made our plan to work again by moving our trip dates again. She is just amazing, Great customer service. We chose to rent a Spaceship for our three week stay in NZ based on pricing and size (we wanted something small/easy to park in regular parking stalls around town), and it turned out to be a great choice! The double bed inside was comfortable enough (if a bit on the tight side!) for two, and with the awning setup with the boot open it was nice and breathable and didn't feel claustrophobic. (We only got caught out in the rain once, and water did leak inside the seams of the awning — the seams were stretched to be a bit open, I imagine due to age/use.) The fridge/freezer is small, but really useful to have as you travel. The side awning (which you can place over the open side door of the van) was nice to sit under for shade on those hot sunny days. Unfortunately, the awning didn't hold up so well on the windier days we had by the beach as it tended to buckle under the pressure, so we weren't able to use it as much as we would've liked. The design probably needs a bit of a revision to add some structural strength to make it more useful in the wind! When we picked up the Spaceship there was an issue with the table that held the camp stove (it wouldn't lock into place) so Spaceships kindly gave us a separate folding table and two camp chairs to make up for it, which we really appreciated! Added bonus: the fuel efficiency of the van was pretty decent, and we didn't have to fill up as much as I expected! If you're the sort of traveller who likes to spread out their clothing/gear and be able to find things easily, you'll probably want a larger vehicle to give you that extra space. But if you're a compact traveller looking for a simple, affordable, and comfortable way to easily travel around NZ, then a Spaceship is for you!

Excellent rental - very straight forward booking, pick up and drop off. Excellent value for money. I had the Standard camper which was perfect for one person, would be great for 2 also. The fridge/freezer is very effective, two gas cookers and enough gas for my week’s rental. The duvet is warm, decent lighting, privacy curtains. The best bit is not needing to hook up to power, as the battery for the lights and fridge recharges as you drive. Would definitely recommend.

We booked the dream sleeper mini for 16 days. We were very disappointed when we received it. The dream sleeper we received was very dirty. Dead insects between the plates in the kitchen. Work surface was so dirty that the cleaning wipe was completely black after we used it. But even worse were the bedding sheets. They had big yelllow smudges on it. Really sad, because in general the dream sleeper has definitely some advantages over other campervans (comfy matraze, fly screens,...). But for this price I expect a car to meet at least a basic level of cleanliness.

I had many good experience and memories in the trip with Spaceships car. The car is in good condition and driving smoothly. Bed setting is easy and is comfortable to sleep on. So much space to put our stuff of 2 people. Recommend if you want to experience something different.

Spaceships is absolutely great, they have no hidden fees or extra costs for additional drivers, one way fees or anything else. You can pick up and drop off after hours! We picked up the camper in Auckland and dropped it off there as well. We had no issues and the campervan was great! Plenty of space and the different options to extend the bed are perfect for summer and winter. The cars are quiet fuel efficient for their size, they have a fridge and all cooking equipment included. The staff is super friendly and helpful as well. Definitely recommend!

Had a really great experience with Spaceships from check-in to check out. We loved our dream sleeper mini, it rides smooth through all the windy roads and it got us through a 15 day trip with no issues. They’ve really thought of every detail down to the bug nets we used almost every night. Plus we slept like babies - thanks Spaceships!

I would highly recommend spaceships. We rented the dream sleeper mini for 3 weeks and we have no complaints. We completed the preregistration beforehand and when we showed up we had a briefing about the van and off we went. The van was clean and the cooking gear provided was very nice. Drop off was equally quick and easy with no hidden loopholes, highly recommend!

We rented a dream sleeper and loved it! It is a nifty van and the best part is the large fridge so it could keep our wine and food (in order of importance) cool. We had some mechanic issues in Wellington and got stranded there for 4 days. Spaceships were easy to contact and helpful as far they could sort things out for us. They refunded the days we couldn't use the car without any hassle. All people we have spoken to from spaceships (and we spoke to a lot of people...) have been very friendly and helpful. We would definitely book again with them!!

Excellent campervan rental. I rented a Spaceship while travelling the North Island with my parents (aged between 57-60 years old) - as we've heard this company is mostly for young people we were interested to see how it would go. We loved it! So much space, a very easy to use car and supremely comfortable seats. Customer service from office staff was excellent and their knowledge of New Zealand was very impressive. I wouldn't hesitate to book with these guys again, highly recommended!

We were so glad we decided to rent from Spaceships. Our trusty Beta camper van (Apollo 11!) took us all around the North Island, and we never had a single problem. Plenty of space, and the company provided everything we might need. Very comfortable setup in the van. Only slight issue was that the separate battery for the lights, charging ports, etc. definitely did not last as long as we were told it would, but honestly it wasn’t a problem. Note that the vans aren’t very fuel efficient, but we expected that going in. Company also made the airport transfer very easy. Pick up/drop off process was smooth, though we were sad to leave our little home. Thanks Spaceships!

Great service of the staff that booked me on an after hour pick up, while my flight from Sydney was delayed. They just asked for quickly sending a photo from my drivers license and sent me all after hour pick up details by email while I was in the air. Received the car with some nice welcome letter and useful information about handling it. The cars drive easily. No big camper no issues on the very windy roads at all. The car had 146k on the odo, but still in OK shape. It's good enough for two and the awning is setup quickly. One star less as I received the car with empty tank. Low Fuel light on. After a late arrival that's just not what you need. The mandatory cleaning on the day of return should be part of customer service not a service done by the customer. Apart from that, a great experience.

We rented the Beta for two weeks. Our minivan was in immaculate shape. I do not know the model year of this Toyota - maybe late 2000s. But it had only 80k kilometers and was mechanically in tip top shape. I drive a Honda minivan in the US - this was very comfortable, comparable driving. The bed, storage, and refrigerator in the back are very cleverly engineered. The two storage containers that support the bed have shock-supported lids - easy to open and close. The bed is super comfy for 2 and we loved having the awning over the rear hatch - sleeping "outside" and not be bothered by mosquitoes, rain, and wind. Our awning had screened windows on the side and back, so also a good view right from camp! :) The side door awning was an excellent addition for keeping us dry on a drizzly day or during the occasional rain. I was told that the interior design is Spaceships own - kudos for a clever, very sturdy, and functional design.

We hire a Rocket 2 for 45 days for a good price. Better than all other companies. GPS, table, chairs, for free as well. We did 7.000km with it, all around NZ.. Not disappointed at all. The van was perfect all the trip long. Our van is Kermit, so thank you Kermit! Thing to know, 9 to 11L per 100km. Which is fine. With a full tank, it's nearly 500km to go. Only, one thing to keep in mind, it's not self contained . To be honest, we had a very very nice trip thank to Spaceship. We go back in France with a lot of good memories. Thank spaceship. Don't hesitate a second about Spaceship.

We spent almost 4 weeks touring NZ in the dream sleeper mini. We thought it was the perfect way to explore the country. We loved the freedom. And this is a well designed campervan, it's not like sleeping in your car! The bed was comfortable and easy to set up. The kitchen was very smartly designed. Absolutely the best experience I've ever had renting any type of vehicle anywhere in the world. The friendliest service by all of the staff there starts any trip off right - they're incredibly accommodating, and worked to ensure that my recent holiday was set up for success. We had such an amazing time on our road trip, and we loved our campervan "Stitch" so much! She was perfect, just what we needed to adventure our way around the amazing nation of New Zealand. The more we talked to other travelers on our journey, the more appreciative we became of our van. She was also warm even though it was winter and very comfortable, both driving and sleeping. Had a great time driving around the north island. Really nice roads and a great car to see it all. Stayed in the car on one night. Even though I had a double duvet it was still VERRYYY cold. Although a very comfortable bed and everything you need for a camping experience. We had a nice time in our spaceship button. It is not luxury car, but it is very good if you like us want to experience most of the islands and is on the move every day. Easy to drive, an no problems on gravel roads, even steep and narrow ones. So recommend for people that wants to move a lot.

My experience with Spaceships has been nothing short of amazing. Firstly the staff experience I had was so helpful and kind I couldn't of gotten luckier as I didn't know where to go and they provided me with great suggestions for my itinerary. (Marty and Ellie were their names) The check out process was easy and they were very thorough with showing me exactly how my Spaceship worked and was set up. I also got to receive a free copy of NZ Frenzy Guide for both islands which is only something Spaceships can provide. The books were full of secret places to check out in the country and things that not all tourists and even kiwis know about!! Drove beautifully on the road and got me where I needed to be on time without any problems. I would recommend this company over any other camper van company in New Zealand as they truly know what they are doing with these vans. Also the beds are so comfortable and can extend to a perfect length for a comfortable sleep. If you are coming to New Zealand and in need of a affordable and fun accommodation you HAVE TO GO WITH SPACESHIPS!!!!!!!!!

We hired a rocket 2 for our 12 days trip and it was awesome. There was everything we need in the van(well equipped "kitchen" and comfortable bed). The staff from spaceship is really nice and efficient. Do not hesitate to rent a car from them, they have great service and low prices !

We had some minor issues with locking the car etc., but we guess that was due to the car's age. All in all quite good value for money. Would definitely recommend it.

Great experience, we had a wonderful trip. Our car broke down and it took a couple of days to get it fixed, but Spaceships was very helpful and did everything they could do to make the missed days enjoyable for us, like arranging a temporary replacement car, paying for the accomodation and refunding lost days. We have used Spaceships on a number of occasions in NZ. The whole is experience is great from the get go. Best value for money, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable, not only on their products but they let you know all the best places to visit in NZ. We rented the Beta S2 and it was perfect for 2 people. The van handled great which was perfect for New Zealand's crazy roads. We opted out of getting the chairs and table and we regretted that choice almost immediately. The van was very clean when we got it and staff was very friendly and helpful. We had a great vacation and definitely recommend spaceships to anyone who likes the freedom of a campervan. The only slight problem we had was that the windshield wipers were pretty used up and made it hard to drive in the rain. Over all a great experience.

Rented our Spaceship for 3 weeks for a trip across New Zealand, both South and North Island. During that time "Wolverine" was great - reliable even on steep streets and surprisingly much storage space. Even though you cannot sit upright in the bed, the sleeping space is otherwise big enough and the provided facilities (cooker, kitchen utilities, etc.) were great. Would definitely recommend it for a nice camping trip especially after seeing all the tents getting drenched during a storm!

I came to NZ for a few months for a surf trip odyssey. Had a blast exploring the entire country and living in my spaceships rocket. Perfect sized van equipped with great storage areas and cooking gear. I drove over 13000km, never had any major vehicle issues and spaceships treated me well. Legendary adventure!

New Zealand is the perfect place for adventures. Beautiful nature, no dangerous animals and 'alright weather'. Spaceships is a great rental company and the cars they use are ideal for camping. You sleep good in the car and it drives really good. All in all a great experience!

Amazing rental company! We‘ve had lots and lots of different rental companies on our trip through Australia, Bali and New Zealand. This is by far the best one we‘ve ever had. Other than most competitors they just don‘t have any extra fees. No extra mile charges, no outback charges.. nothing. Of course you can rent extra equipment, which is a nice add-on if you need it. Their offices are amazing. Free arcade games, free coffee, stuff from other people that you can take and use for your trip and even a small bag of goodies with playing cards, maps and other stuff! Their staff is super friendly and you even get a free taxi ride home (or wherever you need to go) after dropping off your car. Their cars are nice as well. We only got to try the budget option but loved the setup. A lot of space, a small kitchen area and nice bed sheets. The interior was one of our favorites! In Christchurch we had to use the after hours pickup and dropoff, both times it worked absolutely great. In Auckland we finally got to experience the office, which was even better. I can only recommend spaceships. They‘re absolutely fantastic! I don‘t want to mention others but usually the more known companies were the ones we‘ve had the worst experiences with. I‘ve never written a review on Google but I really think these guys deserve it. If you‘re looking for a nice, honest and just easy going rental company, this is the one!

Great experience, turned up with no booking and was able to take a van on the same day. Staff especially Martin were so helpful, car itself was great, not amazing on super steep hills but what do you expect for such a low price. Still did the job, it just groaned all the way up :) Surprisingly comfortable to sleep in at night too with a full double bed and cozy duvet included. Read a few iffy reviews but our experience was all positive, would definitely recommend these guys to anyone and use again if we come back out this way.

A basic car rental, nothing fancy for the price you pay. We received an older minivan, which made us nervous about taking it on such a long journey, however it did make it for the term of our rental. Was not the most gas efficient but for the model we reviewed it was expected. It came with a variety of camping equipment, we did not use any however, it was nice that it was included. If you are looking for a fairly inexpensive way to travel spaceships was good.

We loved our roadtrip in our Spaceship - a surprisingly modern car and so easy to drive. I've used Wicked previously, but I much preferred the Spaceship experience. Definitely double check the contents before you drive off (we had one missing the pillows and another missing the towels), but overall I would highly recommend and I'll be renting a spaceship again when I return to N.Z. Even though we only had it for a 4 day getaway we loved our Spaceship Mad Max! Easy to drive and set up the bed, and it was very comfortable for two adults. Fantastic experience. Everyone was friendly, and checking in and picking up the vehicle was a breeze. The van was super nice and way better than I was expecting, having heard some horror stories about rental campervans. Lovely people and well kept cars. I want site what vehicle to book so got the cheapest. As a warning, the cheapest vehicle (out at least three one I had) ate a lot of petrol. I spent far more money on petrol than anything else and I didn't travel far at all. Would definitely recommend thigh. Great little vans with plenty of room to sleep etc. Very well set up. I suspect sleeping in the warm hot months may be a little sticky thigh if there are a couple of you.

Spaceships is definetly the best way to tour around NZ. Vans are in perfect shape for long drives and extremely comfortable for sleep-ins. The road assistance is just perfect and the crew is really nice. All in all a great experience, wouldn't have it other way!!! :)

Good experience overall with my van Electron. Powerful enough and good amount of space inside. Nice setup for convenient usage. Older vehicles not great on petrol but they do have newer models. Only complaint would be the mandatory cleaning at return. Sets you back an extra 20 smackers. I think it should be included in the rental cost per usual. Would use again

Just got back from a 10 day road trip around the South Island. We picked up our Beta 2S van from Christchurch. When we got there, we were provided a demonstration of the vans features with another couple picking up their van at the save time. Their van was used for the demonstration, since we had similar models. This turned out to work against us, as we found out on the first night of camping that our van was missing the gas burner. I notified the office and the remedy they offered was for us to go to a major retailer, buy one and they would reimburse us. I told them that we would be in pretty remote areas for much of our trip and that this would be an unlikely option. We ended up not purchasing a burner, as we only had 4 nights left in the van by the time we got into a large city. When we dropped off the van, we informed them that we did not have the burner and did not buy one to replace it. They said “sorry about that” and that was it. I’m giving this review 4 stars because we weren’t offered any sort of refund for their error. Also, the customer is responsible for returning the van washed, an added expense we were not made aware of when we picked up the van (and lucky to have read in the contract before returning it). All in all, I would recommend this company. Our van was clean and comfortable to drive. We had no mechanical issues with it and found it to be dependable. The bed sits up very high, so it is impossible to sit up straight on it, which was a bummer on the cold nights when we wanted to hang out inside the van. In hindsight, I wish we had rented the standard beta instead of the premium beta. The more “discrete” look and newer model was not worth the extra money paid. I’m sure we would have been just as happy with the more affordable option.

Overall a very good experience. Vehicle ran well and the set up with the tent like extention is great in comparison to other campervans that are similar sized. Our van did have some "personality issues". The one door would only sometimes open from the outside and the rear passenger window didn't work. As mentioned overall a very good experience just a few minor fixes needed to be made to the vehicle. We would rent from spaceship again.

The car we received (Beta category) was in good shape, though older than we expected. We were promised when booking a car aged between 2010-2015. This one was 2004. We sometimes had problems starting the car, due to the weak battery. The design of the car is ok, we saw other campers with better thought through design, than this one. We had two extra seats, which were unnecessary and only used up space. The curtains could have been closed better, if the sticky parts where positioned better. Other than that the experience was good, we were able to grab some groceries when checkin in and the staff explained the car quite well. The car did what it was supposed to do, so we enjoyed our stay in NZ.

Van was great for what we needed; nice sized bed for two adults and decent mileage. The room is a bit tight when including our luggage and other purchases made along the trip. We had to remove all our luggage to set up the bed (which was a bit hairy in the downpour we experienced in Taupo). Would do again.

We rent the car for 5 months and it was very great ! We had one problem during the trip, we just called the company, they sent us to the closest garage and 10 minutes later we were on the road again. Staff and service was very good. The car itself (Beta2) quite old. Toyota vans from around 2005, ours with nearly 300k km. A lot of fuel consumption (unfortunately gas and not diesel). Anyhow cars are always serviced, so a safe driving. But I would recommend to choose a bigger one on basis of Toyota Hilace or Mercedes Sprinter (Juicy or Maui). They also have newer vehicles.

First off, I was quite impressed with the staff's hospitality. They were very kind and helpful. And for those who wants to hire Dream Sleeper Mini, It was alright. The mattress was comfy enough to kept us fully rested. Fridge was amazing, quite bulky than it looks. A bit of noise tho, so we turned it off every night. What I was unhappy with was the sink which was too high and impractical. But the car and the service over all, it was satisfactory.

Great no nonsense company. Used a spaceship in NZ north and south island for almost 4 weeks. You pick up the car, somebody helps you explain the ins and outs quickly and boom, you´re on your way. The car is no luxury, but has everything you need. Ours was bumped and scratched all over the place, but who cares, that means you dont have to worry about if you drive by some bushes. This is what you notice when you bring it back, they do a very quick check of the car and you´re out again within 5 minutes. Exactly what we wanted, top!

I had some unlucky problems with the car at the beginning of my trip but the Spaceship team was very helpful and everything was fixed very quickly and in good conditions. After that I really enjoyed my trip, especially in The Hulk which provided me everything I needed. Awesome experience !

Rented a Beta for a month here (5500km). Before that a month same model in Australia (6000 km). NZ definitely has the better service. Cleaner, more reliable and neater cars and more flexibility. You'll won't regret it against Apollo or Britz. Better fuel consumption, more speed (I have 3 speeding tickets as a souvenir) and cooler looks.

After 18 days and 4000 kms, all went smooth and nicely! Good service, good car, small minus for the high fuel consumption but it's unfortunately about the same for most campervans. Just remember to include it in your budget! Otherwise, totally go for the campervan trip, best way to visit NZ!!!

Spaceships was exactly what we needed for our trip in NZ. We hired 'Scully' for a little short of 4 weeks and travelled close to 5000kms. He was packed with everything we could have asked for including gas and pots and pans and even washing up liquid. Really get more bang for your buck here as we looked at a few other companies and with Spaceships inclusive of the all round insurance was cheaper for what you got. With a lot of other companies they were charging extra for amenities etc. May be a small thing, but the tyres along with a fuel injected engine meant we never struggled on any road from going up steep hills to normal cruising. Big thumbs up to Spaceships, would use them 100 times over and recommend to anyone and everyone.

Didn't end up using the awning or back tent since we found it to be enough space in the back. Would have preferred plastic crockery....we broke one of your mugs, and only required 2 of everything rather than 4. Easy to drive! Couldn't think of a better way to explore NZ, so much freedom.

We hired the campervan for our roadtrip around NZ. The space was enough for my gf and I (6.2 ft tall) We slept in the car most of our trip (20 days) and it was OK. They provide you with the basic stuff you will need in your roadtrip, the bed is comfy and the double duvet was warm enough for the winter. The car (berg 2s) is pretty good and the consumption was correct (full tank last for 600km) In previous roadtrip we used a Jucy campervan and although we think the layout of everything is better in the Jucy car, they are smaller and they consume too much gas, making your trip more expensive. I recommend to do a roadtrip using a Spaceship campervan.

Loved the on board video in the evenings , the fourth seat for a person needing a lift , most campervans do not have this so can't give a new buddy a lift . Nice heavy blankets for the cold weather mind you I always use a hot water bottle , loved the large bed extension . It is just like driving a car , light weight and not too bad on petrol . The colour actually is great and other campervan travellers in the same company vehicle quickly become travel mates . (Translated) Everything perfect! Car rental was originally only supposed to take place from 9 a.m., but we landed at 5 a.m. and were still able to pick up the car. Everything went great, they sent us a PIN, which we had to use for the mailbox on site to collect our key. The car was already there with 8 cans of limo (we were thirsty and nothing was open at the time). The ferry was included. So we could start on one island and return the car on the other island. All camping utensils were in it + 2 gas bottles. Delivery was also easy. All super friendly. The price was very good (the cheapest we found) and nothing was missing. I can only recommend :) (Original) Alles perfekt! Auto verleih sollte ursprünglich erst ab 9 Uhr stattfinden, wir sind aber schon um 5 Uhr in der früh gelandet und konnten trotzdem das Auto abholen. Verlief alles toll, sie schickten uns ein PIN zu, den mussten wir vor Ort für den Briefkasten verwenden um unseren Schlüssel abzuholen. Das Auto stand bereits da mit 8 Dosen limo drin (wir waren am verdursten und um die Uhrzeit hatte nichts offen). Die Fähre war inkl. Also konnten wir auf einer Insel starten und das auto auf der anderen insel wieder abgeben. Alle campingutensilien waren drin + 2 Gas Flaschen. Abgabe verlief ebenfalls problemlos. Alle super freundlich. Der Preis sehr gut (das billigste was wir gefunden haben) und es hat nie an etwas gefehlt. Kann ich nur weiter empfehlen :)

Das Auto hat die perfekte Groesse, um zu zweit darin zu schlafen und alles was man zum Kochen braucht ist bereits dabei. Wir werden unser Spaceship vermissen!
