Reviews of Britz Campervan Hire Christchurch
R.
My husband and I hired a 2 Berth Venturer for a two week trip around the South Island. We got a discount being AA members which made the price very competitive. We had already watched the introductory videos before we arrived for pickup which saved us some time as others were made to sit and watch them if they hadn't. We did have an issue with the digital dashboard when we started up the vehicle but the employees came out and ran an update to get it back up and running. Unfortunately it proved to be quite unreliable on the trip, the navigation constantly crashing and the Bluetooth music cutting in and out. The team allowed us to unpack the contents of our suitcases into the camper and leave them at the branch until pickup which definitely made a difference when it came to space. They also gave us two sets of all the linen which was great and we were able to swap it on our journey at the Queenstown branch.
Overall the van was great for our needs. My husband did all the driving and said it drove well. We picked up a cheap mattress topper which made the bed 100x more enjoyable to sleep on so highly recommend doing this. The BBQ was our preferred cooking facility if the weather was nice, but would sometimes lose the flame if windy. We only used the built in shower once as it unfortunately did not drain very well but we were lucky enough to travel in Summer which meant we could bathe in rivers/oceans when we weren't at a campsite. It was great to have the chairs and tables included so we didn't have to bring our own. Be aware you are not able to take the road between Cardrona and Wānaka in the camper (Crown Range Road) without facing a $300 fine.
We added on the Express Return Pack which made drop off super swift. Shuttle to and from airport also made it hassle-free.
Recommend to bring/buy:
- A car phone holder
- Additional towels
- Mattress topper

We hired a 3-birth camper and loved our experience. Super easy to use, lots of space with us two and our small dog. It was awesome that we could take our dog. The bed mattress was a bit thin but we made it work. No problems, trustworthy van to drive, good on the roads, super easy check in and out. I would hire again.

This was my first time hiring a campervan. The representatives at Christchurch were very professional. They took care of my concerns quickly. It took us only 15-30 minutes (from registration to driving the vehicle out of the center). The vehicle was clean and fun to drive. I had concerns with the brakes ( this was the first time I was driving a 7 meter van). They quickly called the mechanic who took me for the test drive and explained how brakes operate in vans. This was during after service hours. I had a very pleasant experience throughout my journey. I will hire again.

I made a booking before the traffic light system changes. THL changed thier policy @ the 11th hour, leaving us with the potential of a ruined holiday. Fortunately, they contacted us immediately insuring us that our choice to be un-vaxxed wouldnt hinder our experience with their company.
They organised for a private shuttle bus to pick us up from the airport and drop us off at our motorhome. All the prelims were completed before we arrived. All done contactlessly.
In this traffic light system, our choice to assess the long term effects of the vaccine has casted us out of society like a leper.
THL has demonstrated that there is room for businesses to operate non discriminatory.

We picked up our britz Explorer campervan on the 17th of August. Pick up was super easy and the staff were wonderful to deal with.
Even prior to pickup we had great experience with a few questions we had.
Unfortunately the afternoon we picked it up we went into lockdown however we had 2 nights in it before managing to get flights home. It was meant to be a 2 week trip.
We found the van to be well equipped with everything nwe needed. It was warm. The blankets and sheets provided were of better quality than we expected and we had more than enough.
We can't wait to rebook our trip once this lockdown ends and covid restrictions ease.
We brought 4 soft carry on bags and 1 big hard suitcase and we were able to unpack all of our things with plenty of room and storage and leave our hard suitcase at the britz office.

We hired a Mercedes 2/3 berth vehicle for 5 days. The pick-up and drop-off process was easy and transparent. The vehicle was perfect for the two of us. The app and videos were really good and helpful. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is that the air-con stopped working on the day temperatures hit 29C and it became pretty unpleasant driving at that point. Would we use Britz again? Absolutely.
M.
We hired a camper for a week and it was an easy way to travel. There were a few issues, such as dirty dishes in the drawer, and the water not being filled - or the pump not working properly, but overall it was great. We stayed in campgrounds and used their facilities, so it didn't really matter too much. It was a safe, easy van to drive, and in great condition overall.
S.
Check in to the van was super fast, we got it in no time. The van was clean. We enjoyed our 21-day trip in the van. There were no big issues with the vehicle at all, the diesel heater was very cheap to operate, cheaper than we thought. The electric heater they provided was faulty and made a big noice, but fortunately we were able to change it at their Queenstown branch.
The provided pots in the kitchen aren’t that good though, they stick anything you throw at them. The outside BBQ is an awesome addition, you need a match (provided) to start the flame as there’s no starter there. The radio/media player in the driver’s cabin wasn’t that good, it was crashing and restarting most of the time, but it had Bluetooth.
Checkout was also super fast, and they provided a courtesy shuttle to the airport too.

Just back from a trip around South Island NZ in our Britz campervan. First time to do this and we loved it. Being self contained gave us the freedom to park up in some amazing spots. Only downside was the lack of an oven - ours had a grill only so cooking options limited, also took a long time for hot water to come through. Other than that though, highly recommend.
C.
We rented a six-birth RV. The vehicle was very clean and well prepared, and everything worked as expected. Everyone at the branches was a pleasure to interact with, and we had a wonderful time. Highly recommended if you are traveling in the South Island.

We hired a 6 berth camper for 3 weeks as we required 2 separate beds without climbing ladders ! We have used THL extensively over the last decade.
The handover was very speedy which made me a bit nervous as the chap wasn't noting some of the many "marks" on the vehicle. It was obviously a very old van. We were on our way in no time, but the first day was marred by continual problems. The hot water heater was incredibly difficult to start, we couldn't find the snow chains which we were told were present, the latch on the hot water cover broke, and so the phone calls to "on road assist" began. I must add Road Assit were brilliant through out our holiday.
After 2 days on the road we found many things difficult to work, and went to a small West Coast town mechanic who diagnosed a totally useless house battery that wouldn't hold any charge. After a new battery, from there on the van was excellent .
This particular vehicle type had 2 major flaws .. for a 6 berth van it had the tiniest toilet cassette, which required continual searching for dump stations, and a "wardrobe" protruded into the galley space.
Overall ,It was a well appointed and the vehicle was an absolute "dream" to drive, and after the battery was replaced it was fantastic. The depot in Queenstown fixed any residual problems in a matter of minutes and were very helpful in every way. They even gave us the snow chains which were missing !!
On returning the van, the depot only gave the van a cursory glance over, and then advised us it was the vans last trip and was to be sold !! Hence the casual inspections !
Overall I would definitely use Britz again .. they offer a reasonably priced product and is well place between the Maui & Mighty range.

We were so happy with our camper! It came equipped with everything we needed. Roomy for the 2 of us! Easy to park and drive, nice clean and tidy appliances too. Everything was well thought of in this camper! The service we received by everyone upon pick up and return was awesome for us first time camper hirers! We would definitely recommend booking our campers from here to anyone.
S.
Fantastic team! Informative and efficient from the very beginning - 6 berth Mercedes was a joy to drive and the extra mileage suggestion from the CHC team really paid off! On top of that we were running pre for the airport and team THL CHC pulled out all the stops and got us there on time!!!
A.
We really enjoyed our two weeks in the 6 berth! It was really easy to drive and simple to do the maintenance (waste etc). We did have to clean a wee bit on pick up but overall it was in very good condition. Pick up and return was quick and simple - staff were really helpful. The THL app was excellent.

Hired our van from Christchurch airport in May, for a two week tour. We were a little disappointed with the presentation of the van, it was covered in cobwebs, inside the rear doors and around the exterior.
Before we could even leave the base, the wing mirror had to be repaired - it seemed there had been no pre-check by the team prior to our arrival.
Inside, the mesh air vents were blocked with dirt, the pole for front area table was missing, as was the water hose and one of the rear speakers was not working. We found the small electric fan heater inefficient, and not usable unless connected to a powered site.
We would suggest you check your van thoroughly before leaving the base ...
Having said all that, when we had a need to call the help-line on a couple of occasions, they were very helpful - even calling us back the next day to check we had sorted our issue.
On the whole we loved the experience, it is a great way to travel our beautiful country - we will just be a little fussier when we collect our next van.
A.
We hired a 4 berth camper with a drop down bed. It was roomy with everything that you needed. The bed was comfortable and great that you could push it up out of the way very easily. Such a great way to travel!
L.
Hired the same model as same time last year. The cleaning standard prior to us picking it up was generally poor, things like insects and dust in the glasses, perhaps it was stored away for a period? Also, the shower door kept opening, fridge door also, both a bit of a pain, especially with food etc going all over the floor (and yes it was closed properly). So not as good as the Maui branded campervan from the previous year, but mechanically A OK, which to me was far more important. And thanks to the drop off person who was very sympathetic and helpful. Will be booking again next year, for sure
S.
Had an awesome holiday! Check in was good although no airport transfers provided due to CV. Received a tidy Discovery fitout with low km which was really neat - it was a cool small apartment on wheels with amazing changing scenery! Especially loved the bed that went up to the roof. (*Buy a warehouse $50 topper for an even better holiday). However they should provide leveling chocks for the wheels. Snow chains were also not available on pickup, and all BP's do not rent these as advised by my pick up person. Over all the the staff at Britz were good at both ends, especially as they are probably running on reduced staffing. Full insurance cover was well worth it and covered a small knock with no hassle. I recommend checking everything works and the tank is full before driving away.
On a serious note; In regards to rd safety, I urge caution to Britz on using more of the cheap LDV vans to build on - Please don't save money at the cost of lives. All vans should come standard with a reversing camera as well. I'm certain is would save Britz a lot of small repairs in the long run and increase enjoyment of the van.
On a lighter note, someone before me had written on the log book - I name thee Christine the van from hell!! I would definitely hire again from Britz, even the van from hell :)
D.
We organized our campervan in Christchurch but with the ever changing government requirements and being unvaxed , we couldn't pick up the van in person or have contactless pick up??! Britz was helpful but we had to get a fullyed vaxed person to pick up and drop off for us, which meant they drove it off the lot before we took over, and returned much the same way. This made no sense to us but were grateful to have the van to go on holiday.
There were a few small things that would have been good to know about like the sliding door not working first time we tried to use it but the person at the end of the phone was able to help with that. They need to be slammed shut or they don't open unless you adjust it.
All in all a good van, and great bonus to have solar panel on the roof which produced enough power for us - we were not big users of power- that we didn't need to plug in anywhere.
k.
First time ever to hire a camper van and I"m hooked. Wow what a great experience, I took my two grand children away for seven days in a four birth, plenty of space and so easy to drive. I'm already looking at my next away trip. Great Company to deal with very very helpful and left no stone un turned. Thanks Britz. I'll be back.
A.
We actually hired a Mighty, but were upgraded to Britz. The trip was nice and our 6-berth campervan did a great job for us. We didn't have any issues on the way.
The only detail is that our son was looking forward to getting a Mighty, with the pictures and the diary prepared for his trip - he was a bit upset that it turned out differently, so maybe keep in mind that some parents need to prepare their kids in advance when the circumstances change. Again, we were absolutely happy with the vehicle - but our guy had a meltdown that continued at home.
The only reason I don't give 5 stars is the requirement to have a vaccine pass to be able to access the office, which I don't think is fair - I just don't see how people traveling in their own bubble can be seemed more dangerous. A little bit more effort and being open to all would bring you more respect (and business) at this time challenging for some New Zealanders. Please re-consider your decision as there is more evidence that emerges telling us that overall, the risk of transmission is not significantly different.
Thank you.

The 3 berth camper we hired was well laid out for my 'mature' Mum and I to enjoy a holiday together around the Sth Island. The layout was practical, warm bedding and it had everything we needed for campsite living. Minor issues = we had to buy a wee step to help Mum get up/down from the side door (elderly hips!), and we couldn't work out how to use the DVD player. It was super easy to drive and to park, and good radio and SatNav. Highly recommended.
D.
Hired 3 Berth Campervan from Queenstown to Christchurch , upgraded to Maui at pick up. Great vehicle ( Mercedes Sprinter) economical, easy to drive and park with all the necessities to make our 8 day trip very enjoyable. Bed was good length as I’m 1.86m and reasonably comfortable, could be improved by using duvet as a “ mattress” topper, will try next time we rent.
P.
Britz made the whole rental stress free an easy. 11 days around the the South Island. Everyone one was so friendly and helpful from the get go. Will definitely book another one in the near future
K.
Overall we had a really great experience. Reserving the van, check-in, extending our reservation, and check-out were all easy. Staff were patient to explain everything to us as this was our first time in a campervan. We decided to rent a Deuce 2-Berth as an upgrade from the Jucy van we originally intended to rent. For a 10-day trip, we very felt grateful for a spacious bed, functioning toilet, and access to the kitchen (for a cup of coffee) while the bed was still fully made. Would recommend & book again.
R.
WOW! If you have ever wondered if you should hire a campervan and explore NZ then the answer is YES. We hired a Big 6 and chose Britz due to the price. We are a family of 4 but chose a 6 berth for the extra space, well worth it. These campervans are easy to drive and operate. Our orientation at the start was awesome and if you hire through motorhome republic you get the thl app which has helpful videos on operating the heating, water, waste etc.
I recommend getting the express return pack also as this covers your RUC, meaning you can travel endless kms, and you can return empty of diesel and gas and you don't have to empty your waste. We cannot wait to hire again, and would definitely not hesitate to hire through these guys time and time again 😀
s.
Pick up from the airport was only at set times so we had to wait around for over an hour at the airport for the van, I even phoned as our flight had been delayed hoping they could pick us up, but told we would have to wait or pay for a uber or shuttle ourselves.. Not happy as when we were sorting out our van they went and picked up another family from the airport when they arrived. The van had quite alot of big dents already and we also had to check to see if the van had any other damage that was not noted on the already completed form - it was raining at the time and we pointed out even more damage that was not recorded. The van drove well and was easy to set everything up for our nights sleep each day. The only major problem we had was the fridge stopped working a couple of times during our trip. We drove to new destinations every day so this should not have happened - all the food we had in the fridge had to be thrown out. The bike rack should also be removed off the van if this was not needed as it is annoying on the back if not being used. Since we had used a van several times before we knew how to operate everything.
D.
Husband and I had a great time - two weeks and approx 2,500 kms to see if we want to join the motorhome community.
Christchurch to the Catlins, to Lake Tekapo, to Motueka and Farewell Spit, and back to Christchurch - mainly using back roads - because how else do you see this beautiful country!
The campervan went well - enjoyed having everything on board when we started - didn't end up using the shower as we stayed at camp grounds the entire time.
All in all, something we'd recommend you've got to try :)
A.
Great service. The vehicle was clean and trouble-free for the entire journey. The camper had enough horsepower to get us up and over some of the South Island's most challenging passes. Will definitely rent from THL again.
J.
We rented the Britz Venturer which was well equipped and newer than I expected. It was easy to drive, had good visibility and was relatively light on fuel. We had everything we needed for a great tour of the South Island. Checkin and checkout was a breeze - the easy return package was well worth it.
M.
Picked up my camper and drove Christchurch to Auckland.
The trip could not have been better, the van was easy to drive and surprisingly economical. Everything I needed was in it, the hot shower and toilet were a nice luxury. Couldn't fault anything about it and will be back next year to do it again.
5 stars plus
R.
Great company to deal with ... hired a 4 berth Explorer for the two of us ... lots of room and very comfortable. Had everything we needed. An awesome holiday.
S.
First time hirers - it was all so easy. Friendly service on pick up and drop off.
Help from the videos and the help line got us up and going with the unfamiliar.
The van was great to drive.
Would definitely get another if we did another trip
A.
We hired a 6 berth frontier campervan from britz for 10 days to tour the lower south island. The van was fantastic with no problems and was easy to drive. The staff were helpful and the informative videos made the use of the van easy and helped with the running of the vehicle. We would highly recommend Britz campervans and would not hesitate to hire again.
R.
Hired a camper for 6 days to do south Island trip, loved it, super easy to drive and such a great holiday experience. Emptying toilet, water etc was nice and simple. Kids loved the bed above the cabin. Would definitely hire again if the price is right
P.
We were given a brief introduction to the camper consisting mainly of "Did you see the video?". Soon got used to it , though and everything worked ok except the tap leaked. The van was a bit old and beaten up but went ok. We had to call the helpline a couple of times and they were quick and easy to deal with. A good all round experience.
N.
We had an amazing trip, we hired a 6 Berth for 2 Adults/2 Children, managed to get both kids to sleep up top, and therefore didnt need to make the 3rd bed. Best thing was not having to pack up the boot everyday to move hotels, being able to unpack and not live out of a suitcase, and heat a basic lunch in a carpark for kids that dont eat sandwiches! Found camper to have plenty of storage, and fridge size was great, enough for a few days food! Would definately recommend and would do it again!
F.
We hired a four berth Discovery van off Britz, for twenty seven nights, travelling around both South and North Islands. The van was very well equipped and well maintained. We certainly would recommend a four berth van for a couple, as we loved the extra space. On our trip we had two minor issues with the van which were dealt with quickly and efficiently. The van was our home for the duration and we fell in love with it. The perfect way to explore New Zealand. We were so impressed we are thinking on using Britz to travel around New South Wales and the Gold Coast , Austrailia, next year.
S.
Good crew at Christchurch and Queenstown, campervan was fantastic, had a fantastic campervan holiday, we even named our campervan KAU DONKEY 😆. She went well and was comfortable and good to drive. We did 2500km with no worries. Can't wait to plan our next camper holiday.
K.
I had such a fantastic two weeks in my camper! Picking it up and returning it was super easy. Staff were friendly and helpful. My camper was perfect for me as a solo traveller. You can see my whole trip which I shared on my Facebook page, YOLO SOLO. Such a great way to see our beautiful country. Thanks Britz and THL!
C.
Well equipped showroom close to the airport. The check in process was very easy and everything was carefully explained. It saves time if you do some of the check-in details on-line before you arrive. Free coffee and comfy seating is available while you wait for your campervan and there is a supermarket close by so you can stock up on groceries. Our van was showing its age a little but everything worked as it should and it never let us down during the whole three weeks. A great experience that I could recommend to anyone with a taste for a bit of adventure.
W.
A great team and really friendly.
Listen to them if they suggest an upgrade ;) I wish we had.
H.
Just back from our 2nd amazing Campervan holiday. We picked up our Britz Frontier 6 berth camper in Queenstown and decided to follow the good weather (a last minute decision which is the beauty of having a "home on wheels")and traveled up the stunningly beautiful West Coast to Franz Josef , Punakaiki and Mariau Springs. The Campervan was incredibly spacious (family of 4 adults but sleeps 6), comfortable and lacked for nothing. Having the 2 table options during the day, meant that we could all sprawl out and relax. The outdoor table and chairs were a bonus as there are so many stunning rest spots to enjoy along the way. We just loved the freedom that Campervan holidays give. Thanks Britz
J.
This is our 2nd time hiring a campervan last time for 8 days this time for 15 days.We enjoyed our trip doing the top of the South Island and even though their was only my husband and i we hired the 6 berth Frontier we like a bit of room and it didnt disappoint.Slept up above the cab and was spacious enough for us so this meant we didnt have to make up the bed at the back so used this as the lounge and also had the other area for dining.Took our gazebo and this was great if we wanted to eat outside.Had everything we needed, lots of storage so able to have our clothing and food away in cupbaoards.Took a chillybin for our drinks as meant we didnt have to shop away if we didnt need to.Also took our inflatable kayak and to big to store in the trunk of van but bag sat down the back on floor without moving around.Stayed in motor camps most of the time so didnt use the shower but will do this on our next adventure.Being a big camper it drives very well,no issues on the hills.
Y.
I was worried after seeing and hearing bad reviews, but we had an amazing time. Our big 6 berth camper worked great for us. Heating was good even in -5degrees. I did some damage to the camper when I hit a rock. I took the extra insurance and this was hassle free on returning the camper. The staff at the CHCH site were working really hard to keep things moving as efficiently as possible. Fridge space was really good and a lot of storage for gear.
R.
We had a great time in our camper 7 days just puttering along stopping and going to places we hadn't been before van was just the right size for the two of us very comfortable service at check in and check out was professional friendly and quick will do again,
C.
Good service, van was clean and well stocked. We travelled comfortably. Bed was hard to sleep on but i kinda of expected that. Otherwiswe great experience
S.
We had booked through Britz but were given the Maui equivalent. Check in was very easy and we were on our way in no time. Definitely recommend viewing the how-to videos before picking up and had to refer back to a couple as we went. The camper did everything we needed it to do, we were able to leave the rear bed set up the entire time and use the table at the front when needed. We bought the liability option for piece of mind and the express return which took literally one minute to hand back. Very happy with our 2 week southern tour in the camper and definately recommend to others.
P.
Super quick and easy pick up and drop off. Campervan was very clean, and well prepared, we were given good easy advice on how to operate everything. This was our first Britz Camper experience. Had a fantastic time, a very relaxed way to travel. The boys enjoyed the drive east and west coast beautiful scenic view's. Comfortable sleeping arrangements. Thank Britz for the fantastic customer.
A.
Took advantage of the great deals being offered by Britz and we picked up from Christchurch. Clear and easy to follow instructions and access to backup help etc. Friendly and helpful staff. Pleasure to deal with. We travelled with 3 adults and one child. We went from Christchurch to Auckland with many stops along the way and delivered back to Auckland Britz Campervan Hire.Over 1500 kms and no issues at all with the 6 Berth Campervan. The Auckland handover was quick simple and friendly also. The facilities within the vehicle were great and the beds were more comfortable and spacious than we expected. We had to work while travelling so we stopped mostly at child friendly camp grounds and we found the campervan both comfortable and spacious enough to do our work catch ups. We highly recommend the campervan as a great get away holiday option and currently very affordable as well.
G.
We enjoyed our week in the campervan. We were able to freedom camp the entire week and stayed in some beautiful spots.
G.
We had a great trip. Vehicle was excellent to drive. Having GPS built in was a bonus. Just a couple of points. The $1.00 bucket from the Warehouse needs to be a bit more sturdy especially if you use it to take dishes to the kitchen. The handle broke within days and eventually the bucket split down the side. A square bucket would be more appropriate. Also the drain in the shower was blocked on the first day. To clean it was very gross but sorted the problem after a discussion with the help desk. Britz came to party with a small compensation for the inconvenience.
Overall the van was presented in very good condition and all required amenities were as stated.
We also thought it was good value for the money.
B.
In a nutshell, we hired 6 berth Mercedes. Pick up was on time and with minimal delays, the staff were helpful and polite and the camper was nice and clean. Over the course of our hire (2 weeks) we never had any issues with the vehicle or any of its equipment. There were a few very minor imperfections with some of the chattels, but you can't really expect the company to repair things that haven't been reported as defective. Our drop-off was similarly free-flowing, and we were off to the airport in no time.
We would have no hesitation in recommending this company.
M.
Thank you so much for an amazing camper van. We spent 10 days with 6 people doing a trip around the South Island of New Zealand. This had been a bucket list for me for so long and I wasn't disappointed. With our 7 and 8 year old children and my mother and father in law. What a great way to see a lot within a short timeframe. It was also a perfect treat for my mother and father-in-law as they just celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. The van was so well set up and really spacious with 4 adults and two children. We managed to cover Oamaru, Moeraki, Dunedin, the Caitlins, Invercargill, Bluff, Cromwell, Mount Cook and Lake Tekapo. We would like to say a massive thank you for the management who offered us Kiwis discounted rates to see our country. I know that we wouldn't have been able to afford it at full price, but would definitely do it again if the opportunity arose. A wonderful experience and one that my children and their grand parents will remember forever. Thank you all so much.
k.
The Van was great we got exactly what we had expected as we had hired this same one 2 years ago ( 2+1 Berth) . We picked up the Van late on a Friday around 4pm felt the pickup was a little rushed as not much was explained (other than the video) this didn't bother us too much as we knew from last time however the gentleman showing us the van did not know this at the time. Also when I asked about the snow chains I had booked online I was told they hadn't sent them and we wont be getting them due to a rule change despite no communication. We came across another couple on our journey that had collected their Maui van on the same day that had had a similar experience with their pickup and a bad experience with their van due to lack of explanation as this was their first camper trip.
All in all it was a great trip, Highly recommend the Express return if you are intending to to a lot of driving and want a hassle free drop off well worth the money =).
B.
Best way to see New Zealand !
We had a great time travelling South and North Island by campervan. Our Britz campervan (HiTop) was perfect for the two of us; we are more than happy with our choice.
We had great 28 days with our campervan and the size is also perfect for the streets here, a bigger campervan wouldn't be that good ;).
The vehicle pick up in Christchurch and the drop off in Queenstown was very fast and uncomplicated und the staff was helpful and friendly!
According to our experience, we can really recommend it :D
E.
Great quality and durability of campervan.
Easy renting of mountain bikes which is from a different company that is near the campervan rental site.
Friendly and informative staff.
Convenient shuttle services to and fro the Chirstchurch International Airport.
Easy returning of vehicle and taking the shuttle service to the airport for departure.
Definitely returning to Britz for my next campervan roadtrip in New Zealand!
Thank you Britz!

Renting a motorhome via Britz was easy. We were picked up at the airport. Filled in some documents and went through the various features and functions of the camper. Then it was just to leave and discover New Zealand. It was just as easy when we left the camper.

the camper van was great, i ran into an issue with my grey water valve got stuck and Britz couldn't get a mechanic for 5 days. Granted my issue happened the day before Christmas and i was travelling west on the south Island but it limited our usage of the camper before we couldn't use the fresh water at all because the grey water was full. I told Britz of this problem and they didn't seem too conerned and just blamed it on the holidays but a company as big as Britz, i would expect better service. Im only giving 3 stars because the rental was super expensive, my rate was $660 per day. They also pass on a 1% visa charge and dont give you an alternative method of payment when you book it. They should consider using transferwise to avoid bank fees. I had to do a bank transfer which costed me $90 in bank transfer fees. Aside from that, the camper van itself was decent, lots of room, 3 different beds that we could use, the washroom is super small, just enough for one person, very hard to shower though, the shoe rack though fell apart, all the screws came off.
B.
Super quick and easy pick up and drop off. Campervan was very clean, and well prepared, we were given good easy advice on how to operate everything. This was my second Britz Camper experience. Had a fantastic time, a very relaxed way to travel.
P.
First the Positives, it was a relatively simple check in procedure and there was no problem with the camper motor running and the diesel heater was great. However we had a few problems. The navigation panel with reversing camera stopped working after a couple of hours, so that made backing challenging. The Microwave never worked. some of the kitchen equipment wasn't made secure, so we had constant rattling while driving. One of the draws didn't lock so that I constantly had to stop and wedge it closed until I figured out how to wedge it securely. Took the edge off the experience.
N.
Our flight got cancelled and the only other option was borading in 15 minutes. We were still at Britz, Christchurch dropping off our camper van so we thought there was no way we were going to make it. One of the staff, Chloe, said that she would take us down the the airport right then and there to hopefully make our flight. We got there just in time. Amazing service, Thank you Chloe :)
K.
Absolutely fantastic time! Thanks for the opportunity to experience a campervan trip at a great deal!! Would highly recommend, great way to see our own country. Campervan was comfortable, with all the equipment we needed.
K.
Great week in our 6 berth with 2 adults and 3 teenagers. Britz were very accommodating of our changing plans and easy to deal with
D.
We hired a Britz 6 berth. We only had 5 nights and wanted to cover a fair bit of ground. Check in was efficient, but we were waiting a while.
Conditions were sunny but cold and icy. The diesel heater was deployed almost constantly and we noticed other campers doing the same. We always used powered sites so also deployed the $20 warehouse fan heater supplied with the van. So we kept warm, and had to get used to the extra noise of the fan heater at night.
The van drove quite well considering the terrain, however, the rattling from just about everything in the van was constant and deafening. We couldn't talk between the cab and the rest of the van. We wrapped cutlery and grills etc, but noise coming from cheap draws and joinery couldn't be helped.
The door catch mechanism on the fridge, although seeming to work appeared to be a little squewed and under the additional force of it's contents and cornering, subsequently dumped most of our newly bought food onto the floor through the first left hand corner out of the city. We had to subsequently mop the floor due to ruptured containers. We were unable to fix the fridge catch so had to provide additional security for the fridge door with a bag wedged across the galley any time we were on the move.
The bathroom was quite smelly after using the toilet once or twice, (only "number ones"), so we emptied it and didn't use it again, (although the smell didn't go away). Dread to think what it may have been like with "number twos".
The catch for the screen door on the side door fell off, (without being mistreated), which made the door difficult to operate when wanting to use the door quickly in cold conditions.
The GPS unit with it's 3G connection is well done and we used it extensively. Unfortunately, late in our trip, in the middle of a long drive, the unit went completely dead, leaving us with no GPS, Music, Info, or backing camera. We checked fuses and called the help desk, but nothing could be done, which left us a bit blind. The guy on the desk said he recorded the issue so that they could talk to us on drop off. It sounded like some sort of compensation may be forthcoming, but they knew nothing about it at drop off, and there were no offers of any sort regardless of all the issues.
Some of our problems were just bad luck and possibly because some of the fittings weren't highly enough spec'ed or maintained sufficiently. We are considering a summer trip with a group of vans. I would definitely consider using THL vans again, but I think I'd want some assurance that the rattling isn't that bad in all their vehicles. It was deafening even on good roads with just occasional bumps.
The help videos are great, but I'd suggest that there should be links to them from the website rather than just through the THL app. Not all of them are easily found on Youtube, and some of them are a bit useless when trying to watch on a small screen.

We took the opportunity to travel NZ via campervan while the travel bubble was in operation and booked ourselves a Britz Mercedes Sprinter 2 berth. We were delighted to be upgraded to a newer Maui 2+1 berth Mercedes Sprinter. It had everything you need with warm cosy doonas and plenty of towels and kitchenware.
The van handled like a dream and very easy to drive. As it uses Diesel it was extremely economical which helped with the budget. We Freedom camped a couple of nights which was amazing but most of the time took advantage of Top 10 parks for hot showers.
Highly recommend hiring a campervan to see NZ.
G.
Amazing service, very efficient and communicative, instructions are clear on how to utilise campervan and it’s appliances. Simple and well thought out. Would definitely recommend Britz and will be using again in future for a third time.
D.
Our van was excellent, it was clean and tidy. Unfortunately the deep cycle battery did not hold its charge and consequently we were unable to stay warm if we wanted to use the heater off the grid. There was no navigation in the vehicle which was a bit of a pain.
We are hiring another campervan from Auckland and will be checking to ensure these items work as they should.
Nevertheless we had an amazing time clocking over 2500 km in 18 days without another problem.
Y.
We had a great time holidaying the top of the South Island in 13 days. Wished we had known that BRITZ brand are older fleets compared to MAUIs. When we booked we were told we were getting a “newer vehicle”. Upon pick up, our camper had already completed 197ks 😲 and a little dinged up. Although we survived and completed our trip, the camper did have issues (below). Considering the cost over 2k, we did expect a better vehicle.
Pros
-Enough space for a family of 4
-comfy pillows and duvets
-well functioning fridge
-clean and tidy
Cons
-our toilet wasn’t functioning. Even following their videos to a tee. So we ended up never using it as it was smelly and couldn’t flush.
-the drawers and fridge door kept opening during our trip so I had to unbuckle to close them which was a safety issue.
-the roof where the bed is above the drivers seat collapsed down (the Lino material)
-brakes were a little heavy and loose, had to take it easy and brake well before you would need to. -air conditioning didn’t work
-surprised there were no USB plugs to charge phones
p.
We had a very enjoyable 15 day adventure is our Maui motor home touring the south island of NZ. The van was well equiped with all the necessities that you needed. Just a couple of of things that took away from our holiday the shower/toilet room had not been cleaned prior to pick up, our outdoor table top had major damage and the under side of the awning was badly stained with mould. During our travels we did have the cutlery drawer fly open we rounding sharp left hand corners which gave us a fright each time it happened. All in all a great holiday and we will hire a camper-van in the future. Bev and Paul
M.
We had a high mileage Campervan, but it was a trooper and never missed a beat. It was annoying having to make the beds and unmake them all the time. But once you got into the routine it was not so bad. Every thing tucked away well and we got all our gear packed away in the van. Good move is to take a bag that can be folded up and stored away in the cupboards, instead of a suitcase, but they actually tell you this on the website. All in all it was an enjoyable time in the Britz campervan and the people in Christchurch were good to deal with and very helpful at the beginning of the trip and the end of the trip.
B.
The campervan performed well over the 10 days of the trip. We had the summer deal to get New Zealander's moving, I would like to think the pick up customer service and overall quality of the vehicles would be improved if we had been a full paying guest. The pick up seemed a little like a cattle yard and the quality of camper in the "Britz" banner had sustained a fair amount of superficial body damage and remnants of an awning that should have been provided with the vehicle(maybe this could have suited the Mighty brand more than the Britz). In saying this, the experience once on the road was very good, very little issues with the vehicle (apart from some loose screws on the door and sink creating a rattle and locking us in the vehicle temporarily and power dropping intermittently which would be solved by a turn off/ turn on of the mains) and the opportunity to get out and about under this environment was enjoyed by our family. The drop off was quick and easy.
t.
We had a fabulous time in the camper in Kaikoura. The weather was a bit average but we found plenty to do. The camper was great !! We'll definitely hire one again.
G.
Great service from the team at Maui. Campervan was well equipped and had everything we needed. The diesel heater worked well on nights when it was very cold and we were freedom camping. Really enjoyed the trip. It's a great time for kiwis to see the country. Get out there and make the most of it.
M.
We were using the Motorhome for the first time in September 20. Got a really good deal at the time of booking and had the m/h for 19 days. Went well, easy to handle, and the 4 berth we booked is ideal for TWO people. The running costs were economical, and would definitely consider again for another trip. The booking process was easy, check in easy and the handing back process was effortless. Staff were excellent.
We never used the self contained bathroom, as we elected to use the Top 10 camp facilities which generally were excellent.
As a suggestion a small "Tip Booklet" would be handy for fist time users and would save trial by error process, regarding bed storage etc.
T.
Unfortunately our camper wasn’t ready at the agreed time of 2pm. Nor 3pm. Nor 4pm. Then we started to get grumpy as we had travel plans for that night and hadn’t even left town. Christchurch eventually said they didn’t have our ordered camper available and offered an alternative, which we accepted. Camper itself was good, just wish we had a bit more training on how to use all the facilities. We ended up in snow one night without a power connection and didn’t even know about the diesel heater. But still we had a great time away and enjoyed campervan life

The first question on the 'Drivesafe Quiz' is; "What side of the road do we drive on in NZ?”... C’mon, seriously? For the rest, very efficient staff, but totally understaffed. They have not 1 minute for a breather, so respect to all the staff. The car we hired was not so old, about 3 years, had about 90000 km on it so I guess about 30 rented before me. It was quite damaged, but not on essential places. The only very annoying thing I found out after 1 day was that the maintenance ppl at Britz had overfilled the engine oil excessively much. I did check the exterior of the campervan before we started, but the engine I did not (should I?) The interior also had some damage, but nothing very serious. I do wish they would invest some time and energy in looking for a solution to the mind-blowing racket you experience when driving from the cutlery and china and pots and pans. Deafening!
m.
We hired a britz venturer 3 berth. Very comfortable the shower toilet is very small we didn’t use this at all and stayed at motor camps every night. Cooking was fine. Drove well. Enough bedding and great we could get new linnen halfway through. Would be nice if they pick you up and drop of at airport when you arrive leave not 1 1/2 hours later
M.
We have just finished a 7 day camper van adventure and would highly recommend this experience to any family looking at getting out and about in nz. We had the 6 berth camper - it was clean, tidy and warm. So much space for a family of five with no issues at all. Roomy for sleep and we were lucky with great weather too. Very cleverly thought out vehicles with everything provided, really good. Was actually great to drive as well, was worried it would be heavy to handle, but drove really well. Thanks Britz! Really helped getting one of the great deals after covid as we would not usually be able to afford this camper.
L.
A very slick outfit. Big volume and knowledgeable people. The van was ok, but needed some attention. The house battery was flat, and replaced two days later, which was great. A few lights didn’t work, tank gauges also didn’t work, fridge door kept opening on left corners, as did the above drawer with a faulty latch. One heat vent didn’t function.
The fridge was excellent, very cold. Hot water and internal heating were also very good. The cooking went fine with gas burners working well.
And the bedding was terrific, we were very comfy at night.
Overall a good experience, a team of people who I felt were quite responsive.
J.
Great campervan set up and service quick and easy at pick up and drop off even when busy . Suggest you download their app which is great for learning about how to work the van. Our campervan battery and water allowed us to roam for 3 days without needing to top up. It was Lovely to open the back of van and have a coffee with a view.
T.
Thoroughly enjoyed our six days of Maui campervanning around North Canterbury and Marlborough. The Mercedes Sprinter performed well. It was a great deal by THL to 'keep NZ moving' and we were impressed by the onroad back-up service provided by staff whenever we had a question. Although we had some challenging weather af times, the campervan was warm and cozy in stopovers - a home on the road! We hope to go again with Maui sometime in the future. Thanks. Tony and Yvonne.

We hired the Voyager van for three nights, two adults and two kids ages 9 and 12.
It actually worked quite well even though the weather was awful.
We stayed at a top 10 park with good facilities.
The camper van was fitted out well with most things you need, when the beds are packed away it's fairly spacious, however once the beds are assembled space is restricted but still enough room for a person to get a drink or get in and out of bed, although you need to be nimble to do this, the top bed is awkward to get to but the kids did it fine, the bottom bed is large enough but the mattress is very thin with strange plastic springs underneath, I am around 100kg and it was uncomfortable after a couple of hours, three nights on it left me feeling battered and sore. Luckily the holiday park had hot tubs..
The fridge, microwave, stove, lights , sink, kitchenware were all excellent.
The bedding, towels and blankets were great.
The fuel economy was awesome, the vehicle drove well and everything worked well, it was lovely and clean .
The portable toilet was more of a token gesture than a practical solution, we never used it and if we did , you would need to remove it from the rear storage area, carry it into the van living area do your business and put it back in the storage area, no not happening but satisfied the freedom camping requirements if needed.
There is no side canopy or shelter on the outside of the van , we took a gazebo with us to use which was ok, but a purpose fitted canopy would enhance the experience and give some outside shelter .
Also the ability to carry bicycles as an option would be awesome.
Overall very good value, service was lackluster and rushed.

We hired a campervan for the first time for Queens Birthday week 2021. We found Britz to be the easiest to deal with and the staff very helpful and friendly which made the booking process excellent.
However, although the Mercedes Venturer was very comfortable to drive we found the layout very cramped and poorly designed. The electric jug did not work and we were unable to get Hot Water for dishes or a shower as the unit did not function. We called the 24hr helpline and tried to rectify the problem by following the girls instructions as she stayed on the line but she was unable to help and said she had nobody she could call on anywhere near where we were in Gore. We had to manage the best we could without hot water. On returning the vehicle we met another couple who had the same problem with their rental. It appears the campers are not properly checked before being presented for hire.A good Company but we felt badly let down on this occasion ( our first experience)
Regards,
Derek & Pauline - Christchurch

A seamless experience. This is the second time I rent a camper van and the first time to rent it from Britz. The overall experience with the lease was good but there is a few things to check out prior to pick up the car (if you decide to lease from the company). First, you should check if your travel insurance (yes, you need one for a vacation like this) covers the excess on the camper in case you have an accident. Furthermore, you should also not have Britz empty your toilet and grey water tanks, the price they ask is far to high for a small task like this. You do it yourself in 5 – 10 minutes!
When we picked up the car we where given an MAUI van instead of an Britz van. As this is the same company it is fine – if they give you a car the same class (or better) as you signed up for. Our van was nice, but it had made some 80.000 kilometres on the road already. The only thing we noticed was that the van was very noisy inside and we had to work hard the first day to reduce the noise by using clothes, pillows, etc.
Last, but not least, it is great to drive on the roads in New Zealand. Just remember they drive on the “wrong” side of the road. We had some challenges with road conditions driving on the west coast (the roads was washed away due to some landslide following heavy rains), however this can not be addressed to the rental company, just bad luck – or perhaps climate changes. Who knows!
P.
The camper was as advertised.
Clean, available on time with no problems when returning.
C.
We had a awesome holiday with the keep New Zealand moving promotion... loved every part of our campervan trip we did.. our campervan didn't miss a heart beat..
K.
Check in was rushed and we weren’t shown or told the ins and outs of the camper. As first time renters, we had no clue about the power, battery and waste system. Toilet leaked all through the bathroom for the first three days, every time we drive long distance and no matter how we closed the seal and lid. We took it to another depot and seal was replaced, which fixed the problem. Overall, the camper was rundown and needed some attention.
We did have the most amazing time touring the country and loved our family time. Loved the amazing deal also!
C.
Extremely happy with our recent Camper Van tour of the South Island. 1st time travelling in a home away from home and we will definitely do this again this way. Many essential items came with the Camper and had no problems with the over 2000kms that we travelled.
L.
Excellent Campervan holiday of the South Island over the last 10 days. Britz were very helpful in the lead up to the holiday, answering any questions we had via email. On pick up - the wait time was not bad, considering it was school holidays, very wet and cold and busy! The help line whilst on the road was good when we needed a bit of help with the stove top. Our van was clean, well presented and ready to go. This was excellent value for a holiday and it was a fantastic initiative to get New Zealanders out and seeing their own country! We will be back - thanks Britz!
P.
We have to say that the engine and transmission in the Maui/Brtiz Sprinter/Venturer is fabulous. Smooth, with heaps of power to move this size of vehicle. The equipment (diesel heater especially) all worked perfectly, and we wee always comfortable in this van. We will definitely hore again - in Australia and New Zealand.
C.
Britz was really great over-all. They were really fast and friendly. There was one issue with the camper van, and unfortunately we didn't find out until our quick work trip was already over, but the people before us didn't put the grey water cartridge all the way in. After a couple of uses of the toilet we did figure out the hard way that there was something wrong with it and stopped using it, and luckily it wasn't too bad of a situation - though still not ideal. Other than that however, the rest of the process was so pleasant and efficient that I still feel it was worth 4 stars. I'll know now to check that kind of thing in the future, and would definitely rent from Britz again and suggest to my friends and colleagues to do the same.
A.
We had an amazing time traveling all over the South Island in our Britz Voyager. We did over 2300km over our 8 day trip! The van itself was great to drive, good on gas and plenty of space for all four of us (plus the kids sat nice and far back! So saved our ears from the arguments but still close enough to keep an eye on). The staff manning the phones, emails and in person were helpful and happy despite how busy they were due to the 'get moving' deal which we were so lucky to get in on. Thank you Britz team for the amazing deal that allowed us to take our boys 5 and 9 to explore the South Island. We 100% recommend Britz and hope to travel with you again soon!
A.
Our first camper-van trip experience was great, thanks to the awesome service at Britz. The overall experience of hiring from them was great. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is that I was a bit dissatisfied by the long time it took during the pick up of the vehicle even though we were given a time slot for pickup. While returning, I bought the express pack so that was quick. The vehicle was great and easy to use even for first timers.

Pros: Great price achieved through the Get NZ moving trip. Being able to upgrade to a larger camper. The 0800 help line people were very helpful when we encountered a couple of issues while in situ.
Cons: The collection process is very casual, keys handed over to huge camper with dismissive advice to 'check the online video' when we asked about how to use the features of the camper. Subsequently discovered issues during our trip. 1) Only one headlight was working 2) No kitchen plug 3) Dodgy handbrake which kept saying it was still on, often took several attempts to clear it 4) The privacy curtains between the drivers cabin and living area were missing all of the domes so we had to improvise by using towels to provide privacy. 5) Said curtains were all tattered 6) The fresh water tank must have been close to empty when we got the camper, as we only managed to get 2 sinks of dishes done before we completely ran out of water, and we were in a freedom camping area at that time, so subsequently had no water for a whole day until we got to the next campground. It then took almost 10 minutes to fill the tank. 7) Water heater was temperamental, and took several turning off and on of the switch to get it to work 8) No instructions on how to assemble the rear bed of the camper, which resulted in a very uncomfortable sleep and some tetris like arranging to finally get something that resembled a bed. 8) The curtains on the bed above the cabin had a large gap when closed, so really provided no sort of privacy at all.
It was pretty obvious that the camper was close to the end of its fleet life, and probably thats why they were providing such a special. If I had paid full price for this camper, I would have been extremely unhappy.
Despite all of the above though, we had a great time traveling the South Island in 'Harvey' the RV, and would hire again if another special of this nature was offered.
T.
Camper van was well setup with every essential needed for an enjoyable break away for the two of us. The help screen was very useful for us inexperienced people. Van is very easy to drive and handles NZ roads very comfortably.
I would love to do this again, maybe next year!!

Hi,
We have returned from our recent trip in the camper van as per the attached booking and wish to make the following comments.
Please note that these are meant as constructive and not negative comments or complaints.
Vehicle Reg. No. KZM280
- We were advised that the van would include toilet chemical sachets, this was not the case.
- Plugs were not fitted to the kitchen area sink or shower room wash hand basin.
- The bucket provided was split and did not include a handle.
- The left hand curtain between the cab and living area was missing.
- The sliding door curtain was the wrong shape and would appear not to fit our van.
- Some curtain rails had stops missing so that curtains continually came off the rails.
- Some curtain tie-backs missing, had to use string from bedding packs.
- A large saucepan lid was included but no pan to fit it.
- The sliding door was sometimes unable to be opened without activating both the internal and external latches simultaneously.
We note these items to allow then to be rectified for future hires.
We advise that we will be taking more attention when collecting our van for the 4 month hire scheduled for the end of November 2020 until the end of March 2021 (Booking Ref.B4371128).
We request information to ensure that confirmation can be provided for the following:-
How can we be certain that:--
- The fresh (potable) water tank has been flushed and filled with clean fresh water?
- The gas cylinder is full / has been re-filled?
- The toilet cassette has been emptied, flushed and a chemical sachet inserted?
We also note that an electric fan heater and outside table / chairs were included in our recent short hire at no additional cost, we trust that this will also apply to our extended hire and are looking forward to our extended trip as indicated above.
W.
Great camper. 1st time for us traveling this way. Everything worked well and the shower was surprisingly good.
The only negative thing was the drawn out process collecting the camper. Checked in was prompt then we were put into a waiting room for around an hour before being brought our contact and asked to sign. This should had been done at check in desk. Once this was signed it was just walk out and jump into camper and go.
M.
Went everywhere, plenty of freedom camping, never issues with the power (we always drove each day somewhere) stopped at stunning spots in the south island, swam in the streams, cooked often dinner on an open fire (carried a hand saw for fire wood & a mesh grill) the Campervan was great, enjoyed it and traveled so cheaply. want to do it again soon.
k.
We recently travelled the whole south island in 13 days 3611 kms in a britz 6 berth camper taking advantage of the extremely low prices. without this, like so many other nz families this would have been out of our reach and WOW what a trip!!!
I highly reccommend this form of travel to everyone, we freedom camped every second night and being october there were hardly any sandflies and stayed at camp grounds the others, with the driving and the solar panel on the roof we found we didn't really need powered sites when mindful of our power usage.
The diesel heater is amazing!!!
The stove and cutlery were very noisy while travelling but you get kind of used to it, because of this it can be difficult to communicate with passengers in the back ours being our 12 year old son.
We didn't really use the bathroom in our camper except to wash our hands or when other options were very limited and bathed laundry ect at camp grounds.
It took quite some time and by accident to figure out to get hot water you had to have it heating about 20 mins before you needed it for this reason as we had to move quickly due to our schedual, we boiled the jug for hot water. The water pump was also very loud at times when switched on but this was only when in use.
Unfortunately our camper had a window that leaked at the end of our bed when it rained, that wall tended to condensate also. on day 4 when I awoke to very cold wet feet I was a tad grumpy but over 13 days that was our low so really not bad considering, once we were aware this wasn't a big problem.
Again I highly reccommend this to everyone but this isn't a luxury hotel and is only a couple of steps up from camping, the flexibility and things you can experience see and do are amazing. I don't think I would reccommend to families with very young/small children and I wouldn't want 6 people in a 6 berth it can get crowded 2 adult couples would be max we left our bed set up in the back but imagine pulling all the beds apart each day would be quite tiresome and time consuming. I would definatley do this trip again but allow a few extra days it is ALOT of driving and soo much to see. Get out there lower your expectations and enjoy the journey you will be amazed.
N.
Fantastic way to holiday with family, very well appointed motor home easy to drive and set up. Freedom to go where you want when you want makes it rather relaxing. One advantage of the global pandemic is its never been a better time for kiwis to have the place to ourselves. Recommend to all families before the kids get too old and its not cool to hang with the parents anymore!
K.
Had a lovely break away in the THL campervan. It had everything we needed, and was a really nice way to see the part of the country (The Catlins/Tuatapere and the road from there to Te Anau) that we hadn't seen before. We both thought that four people would be a mission - maybe two small kids would be OK but the thought of four adults would drive us nuts - but that's us - it might work for others. Van easy to drive, and really manoeuverable so that was great. We were silly and didn't think to use the top bed - but it has more room than the lower one that we kept making and unmaking so as to use the table setting, so don't be like us - use the pull down one and you can just slide it up out of the way when not in use!

We rented the Venturer from Britz for a two week tour of the lower South Island. We had the trip of our lives and Britz made the trip very easy. Check-in and return process was very straightforward. Would definitely book a Britz van in the future.
c.
We had a Maui venturer campervan for 2 weeks and found that the toilet smelt of urine the whole time which rather spoilt the holiday to a degree. The price although a special at the moment adds up to quite a bit once you pay for campgrounds and insurance and diesel costs, There is very little storage room, so if you intend doing it cut down on what you think you need.
C.
Hi. Hired a 3 birth campervan for 7 nights to trip around the central South Island. The service at pick up was good but was unaware that you had to find your own way down to the Britz depot. No pick ups from the airport to depot as previously provided.
Generally, we were pretty happy with the campervan. Easy to drive and was comfortable. Could have a better audio/TV system. Couldn't hook up sounds or tv via smart phone.
Would do it all again.
Cheers

We just returned 3/11/20 from a one month trip in so. island NZ. We rented a Britz camper van in Christchurch. It was the 3-berth hi-top which was perfect for two people. The good new is, the rented camper van was clean and contained everything it previously offered. It ran perfectly the entire trip as well. It even had a heater and a safe included. The return went very quickly and without a hitch as we had filled up with diesel and propane. The bad news is picking up the vehicle. Plan on a minimum of 90 minutes if you are familiar with the vehicle. We were, as we had rented in Australia before. If you need someone to explain everything, we were told it would be an additional 45 to 90 minutes more. Plan on 3 hours if you are unfamiliar.

It had a lot of room for the 4 of us and everything you needed.
The 2 things that could have been improved were that mattress on the rear bed very uncomfortable, need to check the backing camera in is the correct place before renting out.
S.
Great van. Everything worked well. Equipment provided was of reasonable quality and good bedding.
Only criticism is that the person who gave us the van appeared to be in a hurry and rushed through the instructions regarding how everything worked. Would have appreciated more instruction. Otherwise, we loved it and would definitely hire again from Britz.

Communication and organisation was sub par. The 3 hour wait to pick up the camper was not a good start. It was raining outside so we had no where to go, but wait. Also we were told there was no curtesy pick from the airport was not a good start either - taxis didn't want to know with all our luggage. Thankfully the airport shuttle got us there 2 minutes down the road for $30. Got a shuttle back at the end which I paid for but there was no info about this from Britz until we arrived to drop off the van. The Christchurch branch was totally under staffed for the number of returns and pick ups.
After 3 days my wife opened the rubbish bin draw to discover a large black rat which wasn't too pleasant to deal with. Could only have either got in a hole from under the van or was a passenger from the Chch depot.
We did however end up having one of the best holidays we have ever had touring around the South Island for 15 days. The Britz staff in Queenstown were amazing when we had to get a few things sorted on the van while there. I would hire from the Queenstown branch ahead of Christchurch next time.

Initially we were worried about the negative feedbacks and news about THL campervans. We were so close to cancel our 1 week trip, but fortunately we didnt. Everything working perfectly, seriously its like a house on the wheels. gas room heater, water heating, water pump, waste system, fridge and freezer are working perfectly. The only things that are not working: 1) the USB sockets, those are hopeless, but its okay, we used cigarette lighter and plugged our Belkin's car charger. 2)microwave is not mounted properly and moved during the trip 3) TV mounting is loose and fell. If you need to check out our youtube review and videos (will be uploaded soon) or instagram @august_molly

I got a sharp deal following Covid so took the opportunity to explore some of our stunning South Island. found the staff all extremely friendly and helpful. The camper was everything I expected and was well decked out with the essentials - bedding, kitchen ware etc. Had a great time touring and would do it again in a heartbeat.

When picking up the vehicle we were offered the option of purchasing the Express Drop-Off bundle which included paying the Road Tax for the Diesel fuel, emptying of toilet and waste water, filling LPG gas tank and diesel for camper. This was great as it meant we could have extra time enjoying our trip rather than preparing the van for someone else. We definitely got our moneys worth! And the extra bonus was when we arrived back to drop off the vehicle we were jumped to the front of the queue! Hassle-free. Would thoroughly recommend!

We had a rough start at check in at the Christchurch office. It was unbelievably busy and there was clearly not enough staff to cover everything. We ended up waiting for over 2.5 hours to check in and get our van, which was very tiring after long flights. The staff were friendly once they got to us. I did have a few other small issues with fees & opening hours to return the van before our flights, but nothing major that wasn’t handled. Once we were situated the van drove well and was equipped with most things we needed, bed was comfy and we didn’t have any issues with the actual equipment. We had a great time driving around New Zealand and enjoyed our camper.

We recently hired a Britz van for a 2 week tour of the NZ South Island. We found the sign-on and sign-off process at the Christchurch depot a relatively smooth process however a little more time could have been spent detailing the vans at sign-on. Our Mercedes van (3 bunk with toilet and shower) was reasonably easy to drive but the GPS and tablet were not particularly intuitive and at times, difficult to use. Also the complimentary Wifi ceased to work during our trip
In all I have no real complaints but for first-timers it would be good if the Company took some time beforehand to determine the most suitable van for campers to use. We did not use the shower or the BarBQ because we stayed in powered sites each night and used the holiday park's facilities - had we camped previously, we may have selected a smaller more economical van
K.
We loved our little 4-man camper van for the 3 weeks we toured South Island. We were 2 people. We were blessed with good weather every day and zero rain. That made a difference too as to have been in camper van in bad weather would have changed a lot about how we felt about space. We ate outside for every meal, using the camping table and chairs. The upper sleeping quarters were just not manageable and no way to switch off lights once "in bed" upstairs. So we elected to make our bed downstairs and keep it in that format, thereby not using van table. In rain a major problem. It was an economical diesel fuel user, and easy to park and navigate. Since NZ is so amazingly setup for campers the need to use the portable toilet is rarely if ever required. Unless really off road which is not permissible by Britz (dirt roads). Would highly suggest hiring this size vehicle. For 2 people. More would be a stretch. The CHC checkin facility is very busy so expect to wait to get your vehicle as well as drop off - only negative!

We absolutely loved our time spent driving around the South Island in our camper van! We experienced a few inconveniences, which Britz did their best to handle. First, Britz informed us a few days ahead of our booking that the camper van had no hot water - which was very disappointing - but they offered us a free express return package to offset some of the inconvenience. Second, the navigation and wifi system provided did not work for us - again Britz compensated us for this inconvenience - I just suggest you try out the navigation before you pull away and Britz closes for the day (which we did!) All in all, we had a wonderful experience and would recommend a booking with Britz.
S.
Well organised, good customer service, vehicle collection quite slow. They do say to allow 1.5 to 2 hours for collection, but this needs to be addressed and the time shortened.
Our camper developed an electrical problem which could not be fixed so a replacement was arranged and delivery made within 36 hours. Pretty good, but did disrupt our holiday for 2 days.
Overall would definitely use again!
J.
We had a fabulous time touring New Zealand in our Britz camper van. We had two of them for our family. The small van made it easy to manoeuvre the tricky and windy roads but still give us enough room to stop for lunch and put the table down and then continue on our trip. It had all the basics which was fine as we stayed mostly in caravan parks. Bed could do with a bit more padding for oldies like us but did the job.
M.
I can't give 5 stars as during pick-up, we were made to wait 5 hours before our Campervan Britz 6 berth was released to us. It actually wrecked our entire itinerary on such date (23/12/2019) and many pre-booked activities were either cancelled or brought forth. Luckily, no deposits forfeited. The company did pay us some sort of a token for this mishap and thanks for such consideration. However, the time lost was not something can be replaced monetarily. I do hope in future, the Company should come up with several alternatives / replacement of vehicles and not to make long-distance traveller like us to wait that long. Time is of the essence. The rest, the vehicle was properly prepared for us. Complete facilities were provided for us. We were extremely happy to be able to drive and literally lived in it for the past 10 days. Sturdy 6 Berths. Highly recommended Britz for big family such as us. Keep up!
A.
We LOVED our camper holiday. Thanks THL for the great NZ deals. Pick up was only 15min late, but we totally understood, due to the volume of campers arriving and departing. The team bumped us up to a Maui to avoid further delays. 👍🏼👍🏼 Had a minor issue with the shower drain, but the help line was great and the problem was resolved.
B.
We had some unexpected delays due to a camper fault which put a slight damper on things. Overall we found the camper clean and suitable for purpose. I would recommend a more thorough walk through for first timers
S.
So we hired their campervan for our 15 days camping trip across south island. Hands down, no issue with the van. Everything worked perfectly for the 15 days. The check-in was quite straightforward but took a bit of time and the checkout was also quite straightforward. They have a small store with them.
When they give a campervan they do give a GPS system to navigate through the trip which is quite helpful because you might want to reserve your phone battery for important times.
The people at the office are quite helpful and forthcoming. Please continue to be doing so because it really motivates who is about to hit the road.
Thank you for all the services
n.
Overall we had a great trip, the van was clean and well maintained and well set up. There was a small issue with a couple of the fittings on the van not being as good as on other vans but nothing really significant. We had a great trip round the North of the South Island - Picton, Nelson, Abel Tasman Park beautiful countryside and very flexible travelling in our own home.
P.
Van was a bit worn out on the inside. LPG bottle not secured properly and formica furniture missing trim with holes from screws showing - i expected better given the cost to hire. Plenty of choice on the market, will make a point of checking next time.
M.
This was our first holiday in a motor home and we loved it! We got the $39 a day deal and it was worth every cent, will definitely do this again at some stage.
Pros - cost, ease of pick up and drop off (we paid for the Express Return pack), help during the trip (we rang the help number a couple of times), the THL app, quality of Top 10 campgrounds for which we got discount, the freedom to go where we wanted when we wanted. Cons - just a few issues with the van - the shower didn’t drain well so couldn’t really use, windscreen wipers needed replacing, one of the keys broke (but the guy in Queenstown replaced it), and the van wasn’t 100% clean when we picked it up.
But overall the experience was fantastic, thanks Britz for the great deal!
d.
Professional and pleasant staff everything was simple to follow and use in the camper.
Signing in and out no dramas very simple process
Fantastic experience visiting hidden corners of NZ, camper drove like a car and was economical on fuel. Home away from home.
Get outside and play,
From Nelson

We had a wonderful trip, taking a Maui campervan from Christchurch to Auckland. The scenery was beautiful, and there was plenty for our young boys (1 and 3) to see and do on the way. It was so convenient having a camper and being able to pull over for a quick explore, a play or a snack to break up the driving legs. The camper was in excellent condition and had everything we needed. We'd highly recommend a camper trip to everyone!
G.
The good stuff:
- great motorhome - clean, reliable, comfortable, everything in it worked (though we did not use the shower and toilet), the GPS made it easy to navigate the roads; I would have left a 5 star review based on the condition of the vehicle alone.
- easy check out process
The bad stuff:
- THAT WAIT AT THE CHECK IN! I walked through the doors at 12 noon, I drove out at 3 p.m. In those 3 hours tempers flared, schedules were ruined, life choices were questioned. Ended up driving in the middle of the night on winding roads through a storm with miserable passengers to our prepaid campground site. This inauspicious start left us with a good story to tell, but was an experience I would not want to repeat.
Other:
- the staff at the branch were cool, but looked stressed; I got a feeling they tried to do their best with the resources they had.
G.
Generally very good, well appointed van, but a few areas for improvement:
- the first time we extended the awning the pole snapped at the end fitting. The same happened when I used another pole. This may be because a) We weren’t shown how to extend the awning during our briefing; b) the awning mechanism was in need of lubrication; or c) the poles are not fit for purpose.
- the water in the shower would not drain away easily such that we could not use the shower for the duration of our trip. Presumably there was a blockage somewhere.
- we had no pillows. Fortunately we were travelling with friends who had extra and were able to lend us a couple.
But all in all, I would recommend Britz, apart from the issues above we had a fantastic holiday!
J.
Britz are the best. We had a most memorable week in NZ south island in an excellent camper van. Really well equipped, modern and well maintained vehicle. The service at the pick up and drop of locations in Christchurch and Queenstown was first class with excellent staff on hand. We will be using Britz again to visit the North Island another year and highly recommend them to anyone.
T.
We hired a 4 berth Campervan from 10th to 17th October, AWESOME. So good were the shower/kitchenette/sleeping/storage/driveability we would go non-powered sites in future and park in remote locations with nice views and peaceful surroundings. Just a note, when returning to the Christchurch depot the THL app suggests LPG can be topped up at a location just down the road, but it's only swappa. If you haven't used much LPG go to Bishopdale Caltex, which is quite close anyway. All in all a great experience, will def do it again, assuming their rates stay low!!

We hired a 3 Berth Camper for 12 days from CHCH, A Smooth Check-in, Clean, Modern Adventurer Plus Camper, well stocked with everything we needed, Comfy Bed, Warm and clean Linen provided, had a blast covering over 1200KMS in 11 days and would definately recommend Britz and we will definately book again in the Future.

Great camper. 1st time for us traveling this way. Everything worked well and the shower was surprisingly good.
The only negative thing was the drawn out process collecting the camper. Checked …

We had a Maui venturer campervan for 2 weeks and found that the toilet smelt of urine the whole time which rather spoilt the holiday to a degree. The price although a special at the moment adds up to quite a bit once you pay for campgrounds …

Hi,
We have returned from our recent trip in the camper van as per the attached …

We just returned 3/11/20 from a one month trip in so. island NZ. We rented a Britz camper van in Christchurch. It was the 3-berth hi-top which was perfect for two people. The good new is, the rented camper van was clean and contained …

We hired the Voyager van for three nights, two adults and two kids ages 9 and 12.
It actually worked quite well even though the weather was awful. …

Great experience! Easy and quick check in and check out. We were 1 adult and 1 child in a Mercedes Sprinter. Very good to drive, warm and cosy in the nights even with -7 degrees with the diesel heating, well equipped and friendly stuff you could call anytime.

Our first camper-van trip experience was great, thanks to the awesome service at Britz. The overall experience of hiring from them was great. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is that I was a bit dissatisfied by the long time it took …

If you haven’t done this already you really should. Vehicles are super comfy, easy to drive and warm

We enjoyed a three week road trip recently using a Britz Mercedes Sprinter 4 Berth motor home.
We collected the MV in Christchurch and dropped off in Auckland.
We had a fantastic time and the van met expectations. However, my only gripes were the fact that the van was rather dated - 4 years old with 128,000 Km on the clock, the toaster shorted the fuse board when the electric kettle was in at the same time.
The electric fan heater didn’t work, the cupboard doors kept flying open driving around certain corners! And the swivel table did exactly that - kept swivelling since the tensioner had failed!
That said, as a Brit, we got around these jiggles admirably ding initiative! The DatNav system was first class and so was the economy!
All good, were instantly booking for next year but will emphasis the need for a newer van.
In all fairness I reckon we got an older van due to the pick up in the south and the drop off on North Ireland.
Finally, be warned - you could wait a couple of hours upon collection if several aircraft land simultaneously. Drop off was quick and easy since paid for an express drop off package.
The staff were Brilliant so go ahead - book and enjoy!
h.
This was a fun trip! The staff were super crazy busy but still polite and as efficient as they could be. We had an issue with our bunks that we didn't discover until the first night, but it was sorted out a quick as was possible. Would totally recommend and hope they do the get moving campaign again!
I.
Our first time in a camper van and it was great. Once we got used to driving a house it was easy. The 4 berth Britz that we were allocated had done over 210,000 km and we added about 3,800 km. Mechanically it was good. A few minor things needed attention e.g. fridge door kept opening while driving (taped it shut) and kitchen sink drain was blocked (we didn't plan to use this as we booked into campsites with kitchen facilities). But these didn't affect us. When we picked the van up there were lots of cusyomers and few staff so it was a bit frustrating. Handing the van back was much smoother and hassle free. I would recommend Britz but be sure to check the van in ordet to ensure that the features you will use are working prior to unpacking your stuff and driving off.

My comments are as per below:-
1. We waited for a long time (about 2 hours after registration at the counter of RV Super Centre Christchurch, 159 Orchard Road, Harewood, Christchurch) for somebody to talk to us (those who came after us had gotten their vehicles after a short wait) before getting our reserved campervan.
2. Finally, a friendly lady came and rushed through the features of the campervan without teaching us how to operate the van particularly how to start the vehicle & operate the handbrake properly as we have problem with the handbrake as the "red brake" word kept lighting up in the deskboard until I approached a passing by kind soul (lady) of your company to help us & she taught us how to operate the handbrake.
3. The campervan was okay but a bit noisy in the night even though we have lowered down the fridge's temperature counter as we were advised earlier.
4. The returning of the vehicle was pretty smooth as we were the first to return at the opening time (8am).
5. Overall, the experience of driving the campervan was fine & the vehicle was in good condition.
h.
Really great experience, camper had all we needed and drove well, I would recommend taking a mattress topper and oil heater during winter, the diesel heater smelt a bit and I'm super sensitive to smell.. drove well had all we needed and was comfortable also plenty of storage, check in was easy and so was dropping off, at the price we got it for would love to do one in summer. highly recommended

On arrival at Britz in Christchurch we had to air three hours before anyone was available to check us in and run through the process of documentation and showing us round the camper van. It appeared to be very understaffed and the staff were consequently stressed and rushed.
Using a camper is definitely one of the best ways to see New Zealand but it wasn’t a good start. The van itself had been worked hard and although in reasonable condition for our needs was quite battered from previous accidents and general wear and tear. The main issue we had was that the grey water tank was blocked when we picked the van up. This hadn’t been checked presumably because when opening the valve nothing came out and it was assumed to be empty. We eventually had to go to the Britz depot in Queenstown and they partially unblocked it but throughout our trip we were unable to empty the tank properly. I think that there is just insufficient time on turnaround for staff to check that everything works properly.
The water hose didn’t have a tap adaptor so before we could fill our water tank I had to buy one. Again this should have been on a checklist and clearly wasn’t.
We were charged $97 for picnic table and chairs when we booked the van which we were told were not included but don’t do this. All the vans at Christchurch had a picnic table and chairs included free of charge. Britz did agree to refund me for this at the end.
Nevertheless it was a good trip and we enjoyed the freedom of being able to travel where we wanted. I am just a little disappointed that the vehicles are not kept in better condition and checked thoroughly at hand over to ensure everything is working. It isn’t a cheap holiday and I expected more for my money I’m afraid.
W.
Staff at Britz were great, friendly and got things in a timely manner. The camper itself was good, spacious and with everything we needed. However when we got down the road a few hundred metres after picking it up and very nasty smell started coming out of the bathroom. It turns out the greywater had not been emptied and was stinking the place up. When we arrive at our destination for the night we found disgusting water in the bottom of the shower. After we emptied it all out, which was very unpleasant, it took a bottle of disinfectant poured in there and drained several times and it was the second day before the smell went away. We had a great holiday once the unpleasant start had been dealt with. I would have thought this would have been checked before rehiring the van out.
S.
We had a fabulous holiday in our camper van. It was very new, immaculately clean, and gave us great flexibility to go where we wanted. We slept really well and were comfortable at all times. A great way to see South Island.
S.
The campervan experience was wonderful overall. Picking up the campervan was fairly challenging because they were short-staffed and had 40 drop-offs and nearly 40 pick-ups that day so it took almost 2 hours to get the campervan. However, they are extremely efficient at getting you out the door in a timely manner for dropping off the campervan so no worries about missing your flight. The campervan that we rented was older so had a couple of things wrong with it but nothing major and it was a ton of fun to travel around NZ like a snail with all of your belongings packed away. We definitely would use a campervan again and would also use Britz again.
Pros: Very comfortable (bed, chairs, seats), you have everything you need, well-equipped, fairly easy to drive with reversing camera and large mirrors, NZ is set-up for campervan parking which is very helpful, warms up fairly quickly when the weather is cold
Cons: If renting a larger 6 person campervan, be very careful during high winds because it can be a bit unsteady and can kick in the ESP requiring a lower speed (totally fine at lower speeds), no gauge present on the gas to know how much you've used (gas for cooker, etc)
S.
BEDS. firm to hard.
DRIVING APP sent us down a Banned Road. $300 Fine, popped up on screen! Stop now etc.
(This was sorted out with a ph call) However it was extremely dangerous as we did not know the road and did not want to drive further along it, in case of fine being issued, or road getting smaller.
So we had to turn the Motorhome back. I wont go into details but NOT GOOD AT ALL. The warning should have notifyed us earlier, while at Cadrona. Where it was safe to turn back.
While driving back to Wanaka, we saw 4 other Motorhomes driving on the Cadrona Road. I hope they were OK.
The problem was we stayed in the Lake View Motorcamp. So App said turn Right. NOT LEFT. When heading to Invercargill.
We did not speak for some time.
PHONE APP. At the end of our trip we were looking for Gas bottle, Dump Station. App sent us to Harewood.
This is a camp ground. They have had people turn up alot. Owners have asked for the Icon to be removed. (Obviously not)
However BP just by drop off has those facilities and is not showing. (Caltex stations for Gas Refill's)
Lastly, paid for 2 chairs got 6. yay. Arm for awening broke after 2 uses. found a spair when packing up several days later.
When dropping off they have a bin of free stuff left over by other users. Would have like a look before I started.
Thats enough from me.

Travelled 2500 klms around South Island starting and ending in Chch,. Wen t as far South as possible - down on the East Coast and back via West Coast, Vehicle was older BRITZ 4 birth and we were two adults. Realistically it was too small for 4 adults, Maybe ok for parents and children' about 8 to 12 years old, Vehicle was 100% reliable. We had a minor problem with a side door lock that was fixed in Dunedin. We would use this service again. especially linked to Top 10.
R.
We had a fabulous 8 day adventure travelling around the South Island in our 6 berth camper.
Great amenities on board, Perfect having paid for the express drop off package where we could drop off and go..
Saved time and money..
Friendly attentive staff the service and experiece has been excetional, Highly recommend this way of travel.

*The motorhome we were given had damage to almost every body panel and trim and looked rather scruffy, but it was clean inside and out and the interior was in good condition. The damage was noted as part of the handover process. With hindsight, we perhaps should have asked for a vehicle in better condition but after a long and tiring journey from UK to NZ we missed this.
*When collecting your motorhome allow plenty of time, as after the booking in and handover process you need to put all of your luggage into the motorhome, then stock up with food and provisions.
*There is a shop area at the collection point where you can buy extras like toilet freshener, loo rolls etc., as well as a range of motorhome/campervan specific items like wheel ramps, security locks, even satellite systems and TV's.
*The motorhome we hired was based on a Mercedes chassis with an automatic transmission. Throughout our three week holiday it performed faultlessly and was very easy to drive. The only issue we had was that the USB ports inside the 'van did not work. This was easily resolved by purchasing a mall charger to plus into the cigarette lighter, which remained powered with the ignition off. This was reported back to Britz when we returned the 'van.
*The drop down bed was very comfortable throughout the holiday and was easy to use.
*The hot water system worked well and provided a very good shower.
*The deisel powered heating system was very impressive and warmed the 'van very quickly.
We are experienced motorhomes and feel that the service and vehicle offered by Britz was very good. For people who have no previous experience of motorhoming the handover process may seem a little daunting so make sure you ask questions if you are at all unsure. Britz also provide a contact number to use during your holiday, and the motorhome we hired also had a satnav system which included 'how to' videos for a range of the motorhome systems.
Overall, very good and would recommend based on our experience.
J.
Had a fantastic time, the camper we hired was perfect for us. Would only like to say that your staff had more time explaining things about the campervans properly. They need to remember they are familiar about these and public are not. Have booked another one for march 2021.
C.
We had an amazing week in New Zealand thanks to Britz campervans, if you are holidaying in New Zealand this is the only way to do it - Britz was brilliant - both before we got to New Zealand and perfect when we arrived! The whole experience was wonderful. Loved the camper van and the entire experience. New Zealand is a stunning country - book now - you won’t regret it!
N.
As somebody who had to be convinced "camping" was something I ought to be doing at 65 all I need say is I loved it. The compromise was we took a 4 person van for the 2 of us - which since we are an untidy couple a very wise decision. Plenty of room, storage space, really comfortable bed, excellent cooking range, tables and chairs, made living in campsites a real pleasure. My wife eventually persuaded me that a night "wild camping with no electricity" was a must. It provided the unforgettable moment of the holiday - lying in bed, with a cup of tea - I'm English - watching the low clouds rise over the majestic mountains as they were burnt off by the early morning sun - it was like looking at a Japanese picture moving in slow motion.
The waggon was great fun to drive, not least New Zealand roads are empty! I loved the option of wake up, decide where to go - or on a couple of occasions just stay. A lovely way to holiday, and because you are buying in from shops a lot cheaper than hotels.
The only thing I didn't master was how to get the Bluetooth working - in retrospect a real blessing - in a busy world quiet can be just wonderful.
L.
Camper very comfortable to drive and great on fuel consumption. Very happy. Not as happy with the layout in this one as the one we had 4 years ago. This one had an extra seat and that left very little room for cooking between the stove/sink and toilet. Also power points where to far away from benches as we had too boiled kettle and made toast on the floor. Part from that happy holiday .
C.
This was our first experience in a Campervan. We travelled on the South Island for a week and a half for the school holidays. What a fabulous experience. The Campervan was GREAT! Easy to drive, had everything we needed and in -4C temperatures it was cosy. Would love to do it again.
D.
Service was very efficient and very welcoming. They explained everything to us in a way that was easy to understand and follow, which was perfect as it was our first time using a camper van. Would highly recommend Britz to anyone.
N.

The campervan we had was a fairly good experience. The only problem we had was that the "house" battery that ran things when the unit wasn't plugged in to electrical service was apparently inadequate. As soon as we would start the diesel heater, the battery level dropped, and unless it had been plugged in the night before it would not heat. Towards the end of the two weeks it apparently was worse, because the refrigerator kept running/stopping, and then starting up again immediately. We called with the initial issue, but weren't told that we should call back if the steps they told us to try didn't work. So we stayed in holiday parks more than we intended. Other than that issue, it was very good--and Britz DID reimburse us for the extra expense of a night in the holiday park because the first rep didn't tell us to call back if the heater didn't work after troubleshooting. So I would definitely use this again!
S.
The condition of the campervan was less than our expectation. Cleanliness needs to be improved, there was mold everywhere inside the fridge, and the interior was not clean as expected. Child car seats given cannot be in recline position, children cannot sleep well during the road trip as children must be seated in car seat while driving. Overall we feel that campervan is a good try for us.
J.
Hi, We had a wonderful safe trip without any real hassles. The only exceptions was having no hot water & the toast was not able to made under the grill as the button wouldn’t stay in to enable the gas to flow.
Apart from those minor issues we had a wonderful time visiting places we hadn’t been to before. We travelled south to Wanaka, Queenstown, Invercargill, flew to Stewart Is then back around the Caitlin’s & home. We had fun in the campervan as all 4 of us had not travelled in one before.
Thank you for making this possible & for an exceptionally easy & efficient booking , pick up & return process.
Many thanks
Steve & Julie Gunby

Recently travelling with our family through the South Island of NZ the motorhome was an amazing experience. Having all facilities of a unit available at any time, not having to pack and unpack daily when moving to a new destination was handy. The Shower we didnt use but the toilet was an excellent facility that made travelling with young kids that bit easier.
Thank you - it was an experience of a lifetime and would do again in a second and hope we do again soon.
C.
Our family did a recent 9 day trip in New Zealand and hired 3 camper vans. Two 3 berth and one 6 berth.
The vans performed well, however, I feel that the briefing when we picked them up, could be a little more detailed and have some more written notes.
We ended up finding a lot of information was on the GPS's, but I had to ring their helpline a few times to find out or clarify information. Time wasted, when you want to concentrate on your holiday.
Overall, it was a good experience. We received everything that we paid for and there were no nasty extras when we returned the vehicles.
Staff were always friendly and helpful, but waiting time for pickup and dropoff needs improving.
I'd be happy to recommend Britz and would probably use them again. Saw some awesome sites. Just makes us want to go again for longer, next time.
N.
Best Campervan hire in NZ. They got best vehicles, best on road assistance except one girl who was very adamant, but except her all other staff were very helpful, understanding and accommodating. AA service organize by Britz was prompt and very helpful. Office staff at Chch and Auckland all of them were welcoming and friendly. My 13 Days trip was successful because of BRITZ.
M.
We really enjoyed the campervan experience. From pick up to drop off the whole experience was great. Very good amenities onboard. Everything was clean and tidy and spacious. Plenty of bedding. There was plenty of room around the driving area and we got great views as we drove along. We mainly stayed at powered sites in campgrounds, however if we rented again we'd definitely stay at unpowered sites and even freedom camp along the way. It was easy to empty and refill amenities. Our 10 day hire was a great taster in campervan life and we hope to hire again
M.
We picked up our hi-top from Christchurch airport and after a lengthy delay (3 hr), we were finally allowed to drive away.
The van was well thought out in terms of design but the bed was very uncomfortable. As we were just 2 people, we added the 2nd mattress onto the 1st and that helped a great deal.
However, hiring a campervan gave us a lot of freedom and we thoroughly enjoyed our trip.
M.
Our experience was excellent, easy sales people to talk with & the walk through on how to use everything was also an easy process. We will definitely be doing another camper van trip & we will definitely be using Britz, the security we had in the knowledge that we could call the service number (which we needed to a couple of times) for help was outstanding.
R.
Britz was really good, picked up in Christchurch Airport by shuttle bus at no cost, driven back to the RV Pickup centre on Harwood. Went through and did self check in on my phone. Went through paper work with staff, then got shown our RV. Wasn't quite what we wanted but it was ok. We then went on our way to our destination, then pulled up , set up. Five day's later had to cut trip short due to getting back to Australia. Dropped of RV at Queens town when is was suppose to be Christchurch, staff checked everything, got a day rate back Britz waviered alot of fees, normally you have to pay a fee for dropping van off to another depot (we were suppose to drop back to Christchurch), due to van having issues with the gearbox, it ended pretty good after we finished all the paper work. Then then gave us a small refund for our troubles and got a shuttle back to Queenstown's airport.
Z.
Thoroughly enjoyed our winter trip around the South Island in our Venturer Plus. The vehicle was easy to drive, everything worked perfectly (especially the heater) and the van was clean and tidy. Would consider renting again for our next trip.
B.
The campervan was beautifully presented and without issues over the 10 days of hire. The organisation is professional from initial engagement to vehicle return. I would have preferred the staff member taking more time to explain the vehicle controls and camping set up as this was my first time to hire a camper but I worked it all out fine.
f.
Perfect service and travel, our campervan was really convenient and well furnished
A.
After arriving about 0930, having already arranged a check-in time on line, and being told that someone would be with us shortly, after waiting half an hour no-one came to see us so I enquired about our van and was told it was just being brought up. After another 30 minutes I asked again and was told the same thing. People who arrived well after us were leaving with their vans. After about a total wait of about 90 minutes our van finally arrived. If there was a delay fir some reason I’d rather be told than continually told it is arriving now, when it didn’t. Other than this our experience of THL has been great, particularly when we got evacuated out of Milford a Sound and had to leave our van behind. By first thing the morning after arriving in Queenstown we were on our way again, which was great service. The vans are great for travelling in and we stayed in it very comfortably for 5 weeks. Would use again without a doubt, but think that Christchurch need to look at their check-in procedures.
S.
We had the most amazing road trip #exploringourbackyard in our motorhome. Definately recommend people take the opportunity to get out there and visit the country, we did the entire south island and had an absolute ball, definately will do again. The whole process with Britz was seamless from booking to when we sadly had to take her back.
T.
We hired a voyager camp for 2 weeks we toured the west coast fantastic part of NZ
We had a lovely trip
But
We had a smelly toilet which we finally sorted and a not very clean camper things were growing under the microwave
When we returned it I suggested they could improve the cleaning I was told it would get better when the bubble with Australia opened and they could employ more staff 😱
Please Britz up your game for kiwis and all travellers
h.
Unfortunately it took a long time to pick up the van which was very frustrating. However. When we complained, they took 100 dollar’s off the bill. Another problem was that the sat Nav soon stopped working and we had to return to Christchurch. It appears that it was running off the internet and burned up our internet allowance. Had we not planned to return to Christchurch anyway it would have been a fairly major problem as we had the van for 2 weeks. The van itself was not as clean as I would have liked as the turnaround time mad it almost impossible for a thorough clean. Apart from that, everything was good. With the van and drop off was fairly smooth.
G.
This was a big trip to New Zealand with 10 day motorhome hire. It is tricky deciding which company to hire from when you live the other side of the world. We went with Britz.
The pickup process went reasonably smoothly, except for the person who did the handover, she did not seem to have much idea as to the workings of the vehicle.
During the hire we had occasions to say "don't remember getting told about that". Found two power sockets under the dining table. Along with an old glove under the seat.
Reading the paperwork implies that everything is the hirers responsibility, get a puncture, you pay etc. So much so that you wonder if things that malfunction are reported to Britz.
The sink did not drain quickly and the water heater only worked when connected to the mains.
There were only two of us and we had a six berth for extra space, goodness knows what you do it there are six because it was tight on space with only two. The space underneath (the garage) had six seats, which did take up a lot of space. Some luggage was stored in the bed above the cab, along with all the extra bedding that we were not going to use as it was a hire for two people.
Not sure as to what checking is done when off hire, but suspect that it goes out without much.
Bring your own bathing towels and tea towels, as the ones supplied are great at moving the water about but not much else. There is a change linen but what else not sure.
The vehicle had 116,438 kms on the clock when we picked it up. Back in the UK we had a trial hire of a motorhome to see how we would get on and this vehicle had 40,000kms on it and it was considered old by the company and was going to be replaced. So not sure as to the age of the vehicle. It did drive OK and served its purpose.
Would I hire again from Britz, not sure. Maybe would look at a small indie.
We did enjoy New Zealand and will visit again.
J.
It certainly wasn't bad, but the explanation of the campervan was 'here are your keys'. Which isn't helpful when we'd never had one before. I also thought we were getting a bigger one than we did which only had a portable toilet. If it wasn't for the post covid deal I would never get a camper because of the price.
S.
Had a life changing trip with Britz campervan. You don't realize how much space is there inside that campervan. We really missed the adventures and camping times after we finished the trip
Telling about the quality of the campervan, it's all good Mercs which did not cause any issues. The team at Christchurch branch was awesome in welcoming us and accommodating us until someone was free to show us the vehicle and explain how everything works. There was free coffee, tea and snacks in the kitchen. Nice toilet and shower if you need to get fresh. Totally recommend trying this once and I bet you will do it again.
M.
Had a wonderful time in our campervan travelling all over South Island over the past 9 days or so. Although we experienced the recent storms and the flooding we always felt warm and comfortable inside and completely self-contained, especially when we were temporarily marooned at Geraldine. Quick takeover and handover at the Christchurch branch as well. Thanks very much
G.
A 3 hour wait from arrival at pick up to driving off and a number of faults with the campervan spoiled our experience somewhat. Although mechanically perfect the inside of the camper was well used and in need of some repairs.
R.
Great venturer camper from Britz. 2 of us spent a comfortable month in it touring New Zealand in Feb/Mar. Good fast pickup, and excellent service and very speedy with express return. Will definitely use them again.
R.
We had a wonderful time travelling the West Coast of the South Island using Maui Campervan. We had a minor call out for servicing when we were at Queenstown which was responded quickly and we were able to continue with our road trip.
D.
Had a great holiday and found the campervan easy to drive. Very economical on fuel being desiel. Only complaint is that they advertise it has a TV, but they failed to tell us it was unable to receive NZ signals so didn't work.
W.
we hired the 4 berth for 11 days , the check in was very easy but I was expecting a camper to be in better condition there was a lot of dents and scratches but they were only superficial
The van was very easy to drive and had more than enough power the backing camera is a must
The Navigation was awsume a real must with getting in and out of places finding places of interest
everything worked well had a few issues with the water heater but fixed this by reseting the power switch
This was our first time using a Camper and used this a experience to create a wish list for when we purchase our own camper
we had a great time away saw some fantastic sites
T.
We made the most of the deals & booked a camper for us and our 3 kids for a weekend trip. Was such a great way to travel with kids! Made life so much easier. If the prices were to stay low like they were for the deal it’s definitely something we would do again!
M.
Campervan came with all necessary equipment (including cutlery, beddings, towels and even a box of matches!). The interior was in great shape and it was very easy to drive 7.2m long vehicle even without any previous experience. Campervan had a bed, tables, shower, toilet, sink, bed and a gas kitchen. Everything was perfect, I highly recommend to rent Britz!
R.
Very efficient. Good quick service very professional. Thanks
S.
Very nice experience with the campervan travelling in South Island of New Zealand. Helpful staff with high efficiency of both pick up and drop off. I will book again in the future and recommend to my friends.
L.
Great customer service, didn't have to wait long for our van to be ready.
Once ready the staff went through everything and we were on our way.
S.
Great experience hiring a camper with Britz/Maui vans. Pick up and drop up were quick and easy
I.
First time campervaner and had a ball! Was perfect for Coast to Coast and definitely something we will look at doing again. The Hire, pickup and drop off was seamless, despite how busy they were.
k.
We recently travelled the whole south island in 13 days 3611 kms in a britz 6 berth camper taking advantage of the extremely low prices. without this, like so many other nz families this would have been out of our reach and WOW what a …
M.
The staff were friendly and [professional
The campervan was clean and great condition
Good On you Britz/Maui
D.
Clean camper. Toilet and shower a bit small and a TV but can only watch DVDs on it.
E.
It was great! Was my 1st ever road trip in NZ with campervan. The trip was smooth as I wished. My friends in Indonesia are interested in joining the road trip. Hopefully we will go next year.
K.
It costs a bit in petrol, it rattles a lot. We drove in winter and it was very cold we had condensation and the seats and blankets got wet from this. The bed was uncomfortable. However it was a fun experience and I'm glad we had the opportunity. We couldn't have afforded it if we didn't get the cheap deal
N.
First time renting a camper van and the overall experience was excellent. Very good communication in the build up to our rental with videos explaining all the things you need to do when using a camper van and the staff were friendly and professional both at puck up and drop off. Will definitely rent again from them
L.
We hired a 3 birth motorhome (even though there was only 2 of us).The bookin phase was quite an experience as we we coercised into signing up for a whole range of extras just in case we encounted a diabolical incident that would bankrupt us.On receipt of the vechicle we had to note all the damaged panels on the vehicle which were numerous uncluding a sizeable gouge under the sliding door.Obviously the turnover of clients is so great they dont have the time or inclination the repair their fleet. However the motorhome performed really well was mechanically sound and we had a great holiday.
F.
The handover of motorhome took quite some time to complete, almost 2 hours. But the waiting was not too painful as the lounge has everything - clean washroom, complimentary drinks, good reading material and small area of equipment for sale.
F.
The service was perfect, and the camper van was great... just the breaks were a bit soft. Everything else was just what we needed, lovely holiday was had by all... thanks Britz
P.
Water hose was too short
No adapter provided for fitting the hose
Sat nav was a very poor standard - unfriendly to use.
No measurement of data usage available. The monitor read 1GB available irrespective of usage.
Fittings within the van were extremely noisy when in motion - rattles etc.
The locking mechanism for the cabin door was unfathomable and unexplained by the staff. It was very unclear as to when the side door and the drive/passenger doors would auto lock. There appeared to be a high risk of unintentionally locking the van (with the keys inside).
B.
I loved my experience using this lovely campervan to take a tiki tour of the south.... thanks so much.... i have told my friends about it and one of them has already booked a Venturer for her own NZ holiday - thanks for the whole thing!
L.
Was a very cool camper. However, pillows weren’t provided on our trip. Had to sleep on towels, but overall was a very cool experience around the north and South Island. Would definitely do again
A.
We hired the Britz Trailblazer for a long weekend to see the sights of the South Island of New Zealand and we were not disappointed. The van had ample space for two people travelling, including space enough to be able to stand up and walk around in the back, and had everything that we needed already inside such as a shower, stove, microwave, heater and much more. It was very comfortable to drive which is a necessity for the long distances you drive in New Zealand. The emptying and refilling of the various tanks of the van was fairly straight-forward also. Would use this van/company again if I were in the area.
d.
Great experience overall, waited for a few hours on pickup in chch, but drop off was smooth and pretty quick. Had a great trip and didn’t have any issues With the camper van the entire trip. Would definitely use Britz again!
E.
It was great! Was my 1st ever road trip in NZ with campervan. The trip was smooth as I wished. My friends in Indonesia are interested in joining the road trip. Hopefully we will go next year.
O.
Relatively good experience for a first timer living in a campervan. Vehicle is in relatively good condition and not difficult to drive. However, the vehicle could do with a slightly better cleaning procedure before each rental.
M.
We had one of the most pleasant trip driving with the 2+1 berth Britz campervan recently. The campervan provides all that we need wihout major issues. Calling in back for help is also a breeze. Thanks for complementing our wonderful trip. Truly recommended!
T.
The Britz team in Christchurch were lovely, friendly and helpful. It is hugely busy in the morning and there can be a long wait if you go during peak times. Don’t make the mistake I did and plan too tight, if picking up a vehicle.
A.
Had a great experience. 5 days of camping. Second time we’ve used their services. We got the Maui 2/3 berth. It was a great camper van in great condition. Only 7k done on it. Look forward to using their services again and again. Totally recommend using their camper vans/Motor homes.
R.
We went to pick up our camper van and all went according to plan. However we were very carefull to get all details. Some of the information on the van and how to use it, was incorrect and it was a little confusing. However the van travelled well and we enjoyed the vacation.
L.
We hired a relocation from Christchurch to Auckland in a Maui. The campervan was brand new and had everything we needed - including bedding and towels. However, we did have to wait over 2 hours at the Christchurch office to get the campervan which ate away at our plans for the day.
G.
First of all - the car itself was fine; no technical problems. But there is really a lot of room for improvements in customer service and internal organisation. It took nearly three/3 hours till we got our car; employees came, asked and were gove without coming back. That much too long, we never experienced such a waiting time in our live so far.
S.
A great experience. the car was definitely worth the money I paid. However, the breaks were not in the best condition. I suggest you give a good time to inspect cars and do repairs between trips.
S.
Was a great first Campervan experience.
Would have been 5 stars other than the grill didn't work on the stove and the camper was a bit smelly but other than that it was awesome.
No hassles on pick up or drop off
Highly recommend Campervanning
s.
We’re loving the britz. Easy to manage and drive. We hired britz for 9 days with 3 kids and parked at different holiday park everyday so no need to do pack and unpack everytime. Dumping is also easy as there are dump station everywhere. Will hire britz again if we ever go to NZ again. Loving the country and the people.
A.
If you are hiring a motor home or camper van from this business, please note:
Maui/Britz/Mighty is a huge business with many hundreds of vehicles in their rental fleet. When you arrive to collect the vehicle you will be waiting for at least one hour, most probably more. There is a very slow sign-up procedure to go through before you are given the vehicle. If you are impatient and expecting 5-star service you will just end up angry and frustrated so be prepared to w-a-i-t. In the high season (January/February/March) there will be many other people also hiring motor homes at the same time as you. You will have to wait in a queue but there are a few tables/flat sofas to sit on. First in first served, just wait. There’s coffee/tea/water available to soothe your rage!
During this waiting time it can be very entertaining to sit beside the “Returns” area and listen/watch as furious ranting Germans and Australians vent their spleens to nonchalant staff about broken/damaged /inadequate/ filthy aspects of their campers or the lack of roadside service when they had broken down in a remote area. Listen up here because you may learn something to your benefit.
Most of the staff are not New Zealanders, they appear to be young transients. They are in a hurry to get the paperwork done. Make sure you get a thorough explanation of your vehicle’s facilities. Don’t let them rush through it. Make sure you go around the vehicle and look at everything, observe all existing panel damage, scratches, dents etc and note these on the diagram you are given. The more the better or you may be accused of having damaged the vehicle later. Caveat emptor.
Enjoy your holiday, and if you have a terrible experience with this business, please remember that not all NZrs are out to fleece you, and most are nice, approachable, helpful, relaxed people. Some may be too casual compared to what you are used to but that's the NZ way.
B.
Bit disappointed, britz convinced me to place rental early as DEFINITELY no discounts come busy summer period, then of course 25%cheaper to hire the fortnight before departure. Have them the chance to honour the dropped price but of course they had reasons why that couldn't happen. Disappointing and bad advice from britz employee. Leaves you feeling a bit miffed!
t.
We were comfortable ,safe and warm (mid winter south island nz). The camper Had everything required to have a self reliant experience. Great staff with pick up and unloading . A must do ! Thank you Britz Chch
J.
Everything was absolutely amazing. Service, van, pic-up/drop off. The van had only 17 000 km when picked up so basically brand new. No issue encountered at all. Happy to hire the van again.
S.
Very nice experience with the campervan travelling in South Island of New Zealand. Helpful staff with high efficiency of both pick up and drop off. I will book again in the future and recommend to my friends.
C.
The campervan was great and very spacious with everything you need inside. We had great service and appreciated being able to change our bedding laundry in Queenstown half way through our trip. Highly recommend.
H.
Good explanation and a campervan in good condition. We had a flat tire and the service was very accurate and fast. After a second problem with the outlet of the waste the repair was quick and perfect.
S.
1) Excellent condition of motorhome. Year of made 2018 with 28k milage. Received in clean and tidy. (5 of 5)
2) Taken express return with mileage clocking 3500km. Worth it as it will charge for milage taxes every km if expess return not include in the package. It tooks 5 minutes of key return process inclusive of survey. (5 of 5)
3) Lost 1 star due to waiting time on 1st day taking vehicle. Arrived at 11am and received key on 3.30pm. It tooks 4hr of waiting. Fortunately waiting space is big and there is free chocolate, coffee, etc. (1 of 5)
4) Please do not take add on (campervan pass, internet extra). This extra is handle by third party and the internet is built in to the car gps tom tom and it is slow. Please use local sim card which can be taken at britz counter for free and register online using your phone.
C.
Being a first time user of this RV company arriving from Canada for a month of touring in New Zealand from early February, we had researched deeply and found out that Britz is obviously very well organized and reliable business...and we were NOT disappointed at all. Keep up great work Britz and Thank You again.
Christopher
L.
We didn't rent a camper, so this review is for their offices and customer services.
Best customer service I've had in a long time. We only askes for a quote but we were offered a hot beverage and a comfortable seat in their lounge.
At the end of the day we went another route, but I would recommend anyone to walk in to their offices and be served as a premium client.
H.
Good to deal with. Check in and collection time a little long but once checking in and receiving the vehicle the staff member was good and thorough when checking for any marks or damage or scuffs. The tea and coffee in the collection centre was a nice touch to assist with delays.
E.
Britz Frontier for 6 person.
We book Britz with inclusive pack and express return and its worth it.
We need those kitchen utensils, heater, free LRO, free Road user charges (which helps when you have extra km because of wrong way or additional trip)
suggestion for britz:
- provide basket to make it easier on transfering food/utensils from campervan to kitchen
- some utensil like plate, mug, bowl are heavy or slippery and prone to break. consider to change with other material that more safe but microwavable
- upgrade GPS or (recheck google maps).
we got wrong direction twice following britz GPS.
1) from Queenstown to Te anau, it takes via Lowther (Lumsden) instead of using highway 97. It cost us additional 30minutes
2) on the way to Shamarra, the gps suggest us to left Highway 75 to take smaller road (4WD road!!). Thankfully we can turnaround before going to far.
M.
After an initial two hour delay to the availability of our vehicle we eventually got underway and had a fantastic holiday. A camper van holiday is a great way to see the beauty of NZ
N.
Kept in waiting room for over an hour before commencing handover of vehicle. Bean bags just got in the way. Curtains kept falling down (poor adhesive). On return, staff genuinely disinterested in feedback. No big deal.
P.
Ok. Bit of advice, check the water level and waste before you leave. As well as all sockets and USB ports. Check the seat belts are not twisted and the grill is working properly. Don't forget to ask where on your journey you can change your linen as it's likely you won't be able to
z.
Great service. Easy and fast process for pick up and drop off. Highly recommended
S.
We stayed in the HiTop once but it was too cold and windy so we decided to spend the rest of our trip in hotels. Next time I will 100% rent a car and stay at hotels. It would have been much cheaper and a faster more enjoyable trip however our Campervan wasn't too bad but was really small and a bit hard to steer because of how high it was. I would have liked a pop top better 😊
S.
The motor home was great, had every thing we needed and everything worked as it should. The only bad experience we have had is trying to get in touch with them. We realised that we left a couple of items in a drawer and have tried calling and email and 3 days later still no response and the phone just rings and rings and rings
M.
Waiting time to pickup the van was too long....The dropoff went quickly. The refrigerator didn't work. We had a high top van, was rather dangerous when there were gusts of wind....80km/hour was then the ultimate maximum.
R.
Great size for my family and I (2 adults, 12yr old, 4yr old and an infant) Just really rattly and loud in the back while driving. Other than that, easy to use kitchen and bathroom. Really is tiny living ☺️
J.
We had a good experience renting a campervan there. But the staff should be more prepared to explain how everything in the vehicle work. As it was our first time in a campervan they asked we if we have seen the youtube videos about the vehicle (we did), then they explained a few things and that was it. So we had to figure the rest by ourselves. So ask them every little thing you can before you leave.
S.
We had a great time for 12 days with the campervan. Hiring them was easy and the staff were really friendly and helpful and drop off with the express package was really fast and easy!
T.
Couldn’t recommend these guys enough! We picked our camper up from Christchurch & dropped off at Queenstown. Both staff members we came in contact with at both locations were so friendly & helpful. Best way to travel around NZ, Thankyou!
O.
LPG power fridge was down. GPS WiFi satnav was down. On road toll free just tell you to figure out yourself. For so much you’ve paid You’ll have to puzzle new problems every day on a RV. stop wasting energy and Strongly recommend to stay at the hotel bnb instead. The management just got some serious problem with maintenance. Bad experience
M.
From start to finish the process and people at Britz were outstanding.this and the quality of the mobile home contributed to our best and most relaxing holiday for some time.brilliant.
G.
Friendly staff, great camper, didnt miss a beat on steep mountain roads. Comfortable. Made travelling around the south island a thoroughly enjoyable experience (2/3 berth Ventura plus)
I.
First time campervaner and had a ball! Was perfect for Coast to Coast and definitely something we will look at doing again. The Hire, pickup and drop off was seamless, despite how busy they were.
R.
Excellent place, but the pickup service could be improved better. It took more than one hour for me to pickup the campervan. Providing the coffee machine is good idea..but it should be replenished when the coffee is finished. Overall, I am satisfied.
L.
Excellent customer service both at pick-up and drop-off. Simple instructions about how to use van gas and water and helpful giving advice about where to get clean linen and where to do our food shop.
V.
Great service received a Maui van instead of Britz, one on road callout promptly dealt with no issues at all. Loved our 9 day trip south island
J.
Awesome place with great deals for motorhome rentals 😊
Definitely one of my go too places when I wanna get out of town to enjoy a great road trip in a small home on wheels.
See ya next time ☺️
P.
Great camper van. Some minor issues, likely related to the age of the vehicle, but nothing that would invconvenience our holiday. Drop off with express return is very easy.
m.
Check-in in the morning takes a long time due to long queue so better check-in as early as possible or after lunch time. We enter 930am waited for more than an hour. During check-out, there is a dump station available near the entrance but do it quickly to avoid traffic. There is hot chocolate and coffee while you wait.
R.
Reliable! Everything went as planned and made our tour of the South Island starting and finishing a breeze. Being able to pit stop at their depot in Queenstown to change linen, have a shower coffee and refill water for free was a bonus :)
DONT BOOK WITH LUCKY RENTALS, PAY EXTRA!!!
T.
Campervan & Britz is the best way to get to know New Zealand on a road trip.
The vehicle was perfect and designed to detail for the maximum comfort.
M.
Great service from pick up to drop off. Had everything we needed in the van even down to having a potato peeler. Would definitely recommend using this company again.
G.
We had a great time in the frontier how ever I think the motor home was getting a bit long in the tooth for the money we paid the water pump was not working well it was sucking air .i ran all taps to get air out the pump stop ten minutes later use again sucking air again and the fridge seal kept falling off around the bottom of fridge which I had to put back on .How ever britz came to our help when we had a medical problem with one of our family they put another license on a vehicle by email which helped out immensely which I would advise to anyone hiring a vehicle to put both licenses on and if your going with a couple of vehicles put all licenses on both vehicles in case of a emergency to cover yourself
M.
Well appointed RV. We had a great trip. Plenty of power for the climbs, good control and steering too. No complaints.
C.
We had a great trip around the south island of NZ with Britz. Their support, before, during, and after the trip were all second to none. No complaints.
L.
What a fantastic experience! Campervan had everything we needed. Don’t let people’s horror stories put you off, maybe this way of travelling just isn’t for them. Can’t wait to do it again!
K.
Easy to Book, pick up and drop off camper at Christchurch.
Staff are very helpful and spent time explaining the process.
K.
Good service and when we decided we'd like to upgrade our camper once we'd arrived to collect it, they did that for us on the spot, luckily there was one available. Awesome!
S.
Was a great 6 berth campervan. Hassle free pick up and drop off can't wait to do it again
K.
Loved our trip, loved the van and great service from Britz/Maui
V.
Picked up in CHCH and drove to Tekapo and Oamaru over three days. Camper had everything we needed and service at the depot was great!
E.
Return of camper van was really easy and quick. Shuttle bus to airport turned up on time and the driver was really helpful loading all our bags for us.
B.
The staff were super helpful and the pick up and drop off service was very efficient. The camper van itself was extremely clean.
V.
Britz is not cheap but they have pretty new vans with low mileage. Everything was as promised within booking. Professional staff, even on the helpline. Definitely recommended!
P.
We were doing a transfer however we were kept waiting 5 hours before eventually being ready to depart.Orientation was too brief and too little care was shown regarding testing our competency and preparedness to drive such a vehicle
Toilet cassette wasn't installed correctly leading to wee accidents...
On the plus side the vehicle performed as expected and was clean inside.
F.
Our experience with Britz was amazing. Any problem at all. Nice customer service and comfortable motorhome. They answered all questions promptly.
P.
Friendly service but a few minor problems with the fridge and the heater. Please Britz bring back the exchange system so travellers can pick up salt, pepper, oil etc not required by other travellers
D.

Great trip, Carolina provided excellent customer service when collecting and upon return!

The start was very disappointing as it took 5 hours to handover the camper van to us.
Other than that the support was good and the van was very well equipped .
M.
Busy, but everyone was very helpful and nice. The only thing we can remark on was that the registration fee wasn't paid and since it was a Saturday, we had to print it out in a post office later on in the week.
M.

Although it was a bit crowded, staff was very kind. The model I booked on the website was not exactly the same I got. The internet/wifi connection was not operational due to some kind of change in the plans...
