It was our first camper van experience. While researching different companies, Mighty had a very competitive rate on an awesome 2/3 berth Mercedes Sprinter in comparison to other companies with smaller Toyota Hiaces. We booked for 10 days. The van was clean and in great condition. The van was big on the inside and very easy for 2 adults to stay in.
After some fault finding we found that the power cable did not work on the first night. We borrowed a spare from the site we stayed at. After contacting customer service a new power cable was arranged for us after our second stop. It was made available sooner but our itinerary was a bit full to collect it. The steering also felt like it was pulling a bit strongly to the left. It was not an issue in towns and winding roads but it was quite noticeable on longer open roads. I was made aware that vans are set up to pull slightly to the left as NZ is a country where we drive on the left hand side of the road and many tourists are accustomed to driving on the right hand side. Customer service were fantastic about this and arranged a wheel alignment to be done at our soonest availability. It made a small difference to the alignment.
I would 100% recommend renting a Merc Sprinter from Mighty. The staff are all great and very helpful and the vehicle we had really allowed for us to experience the NZ South Island to the fullest.

Did a transfercar vehicle relocation Queenstown to Christchurch-$5 a day plus road user chargers of $8 a 100km - over 3 days total $103 plus diesel - great value. Good service, van was a bit rattly to ride in but if you have the time to stop and enjoy the facilities it’s like a picnic basket on wheels. Worked for us!

Amazing 10 day trip in the South Island of NZ in out Mighty camper!! Pick up and drop off was so easy, I would definitely recommend paying for the Express Return Package and full insurance coverage for peace of mind, and at the end of our adventure trip we were definitely too tired to give the van a full clean. The camper was so clean and well maintained with absolutely everything we needed for our stay. The South Island is so accommodating to camper travel, I really think is the best way to see it! Thank you Mighty Campers our trip was perfect, exceeded all expectations. We travelled in the Mighty Deus Plus with 3 adults.

The pickup and drop-off experience was top notch. The 4-berth vehicle we used for our week-long South Island winter trip was spacious, well specced and more than capable. The fuel economy (diesel) was very good too. The only complaint we could make is about the mattress on the bed being a bit on the thin side and not offering enough support but other than that, we were very happy with our experience.
J.
It takes you forever to collect your campervan because the staffs there only do what they are assigned to do, like reception, return or explain and sign the contract with customers, they just won’t help each others. Since they only have 2 staffs doing the explanation things, you must to wait for more than 2hrs to have your procedure to be done. That’s a lot of time wasting on nothing.
Beside this, the condition of campervan is nothing but average, not well cleaned or tidy. Mine even got a lot of spider webs on the side mirrors and the front of the car.

I struggled on this as the actual van was very good with everything we needed and economical to run. We did have to buy an extra mattress after the first night as it was like sleeping on a wooden floor. My main complaint would be it was grubby and then found condoms in a "throughly cleaned camper" Given the fact we are in the middle of a pandemic and the fact I was fobbed off when I complained about it was disappointing.

This is my second camper hire experience.
Unfortunately from the check in to the quality of the camper I wasn't happy.
As an example the camper was in poor condition, lots of dings and scratches, the driver side USB port didn't even work, the check in process was way too long compared to another experience I have had.
Sorry to be negative but I feel you have some work to do.
p.
We had a great time with the 6 berth camper. Toured the glacier starting from chch all the way round to lake tekapo and back to chch. The camper caused us no issues, mind u we didn't use the loo or shower and stayed in camping grounds. But I'd do it again if Mighty do another deal.
Thanks very much
j.
Would be a great experience until we found out that the fridge isn’t working and spoiled our foods. Please make a thorough check of your camper prior handing over for pickup.

With just 2 adults traveling together. We have hired 2 vehicles. The fist a 2+1 van for 15 days (Auckland) the second a 4 berth for 8 days (Christchurch). Both times the staff have been outstanding. They make it easy to pick up & drop off. They have been helpful answering all our questions.
We enjoyed both vehicles. But of course the bigger the better! We stayed at freedom sites as well as camping grounds. Both vehicles are easy to drive and use. Highly recommend as an alternative to motels. Pack and unpack once!

The camper van rental in my opinion is the ultimate way to see the South Island on New Zealand. Mighty campers which is part of the Britz group had a great pick up service, it took about 20 min all up to complete paperwork and have van handed over. Even tho we booked a mighty camper we got an older britz. A little rough round the edges but everything worked well. The van we had got about 8L per 100km travelled, awesome fuel economy. The van was comfortable and very easy to drive.

Our Vehicle was technically in really good condition, even with a mileage of 232000 km. The Campervan was very well equipped, too. Only the large matress in the rear was worn and needs to be replaced, the freshwater hose was definitely too short for a vehicle of this length. In 5 weeks we were able only once ro fill up freshwater from the tap near the site, a real nusance, especially when the water at the dumpstations is mostly not potable. So, you have to turn the whole vehicle only to get at freshwater. With a length of 7,20m , the hose should have a lenght of 10m, that would make life easier and only costs a couple of Dollars. Other than that, we had a really enjoyable, hasslefree holiday.

We arrived to collect our camper and the layout differed to the information on line. The staff quickly sorted this for us with an upgrade and we went happily on our way. Great service and clean and comfortable camper that drove well and had all that we could’ve needed. Would definitely recommend.
C.
It was a good experience and good trip. However it must need to make sure that the van is well maintained. The van I hired had low tire pressure that I had to be replaced with a spare tire because the tires were flat while driving for about an hour or two. It wasn't easy to drive because of the different inflation pressures on both tires, which made it feel like it wobbled several times while driving. There were no other problems and it was a pleasant trip.
D.
Awesome camper and service from the team at Might Campers. We had a few teething problems, but they sorted those out within a few hours and we never had any other issues over our 10 day journey. We had a six-berth for our family of five and the space inside was plenty. Even on the rainy days it was really comfortable and the kids loved the whole experience. The international tourists have been enjoying these for years and now the rest of us Kiwis can find out why. Highly recommend.

First time customer here. Hired a 3 berth Maui
Good stuff
1) Spacious & comfort
2) Good appliances and accessories
3) GPS was quite handy in remote places
4) Good mechanic service at thl centers
Not that good stuff
I was quite disappointed by the waiting period in Christchurch to get my campervan. I had to wait 2 hours. While I have an advanced booking, I would expect van ready for pickup but that was not the case.
I think campervan was not vacuumed or given a good clean after previous customer returned the vehicle. I could see hair stuck on seats etc.. While the expectation from customer is to give cleaned campervan I believe a thorough cleaning after the campervan is handed over is the minimum presentation that company can work on.
Overall we had great time with Maui. Had become part of our lives for few days. Will recommend for the experience.

Really happy with our first ever campervan experience. Very efficient pick up and return. We hired a 2 berth and it was perfect for the 2 of us. Easy to drive, good power and handling and a breeze to operate. As we stayed in Top10 campsites we didn't use the cooking facilities in the van or shower/loo so can't vouch for them. It had a diesel powered heater that we used every night so we were very warm however the diesel pumped all night so if you are a light sleeper that would be annoying but we got used to it. We had a couple of warning lights illuminate towards the end of our trip so rang the helpline who always answered straight away and are available 24/7 so that was fantastic.
Overall a very pleasant experience and would definately hire another Mighty Campervan.
Thank you so much
m.
Went up the West Coast. Very nice trip. Some seatbelts error faults but van was very nice and cumfortable.

Now that Campervan Companies are focused on the their NZ clientele, we are seeing a real difference. Mighty Campers staff couldn't have been more helpful and considerate. The lengthy registering and vehicle inspections are gone and the attitude seem to be more Kiwi, based on trust and friendliness. The staff were all great and treated us with respect and an over riding sense of trust. If you haven't already booked a camper holiday, then get in now , before the tourists come back.

This was our first roadtrip in a motorhome and it was easily the best and most unique one thus far. We booked the 4 berth camper but we were fortunate that the company gave a free upgrade to a 6 berth camper which proved to be even more convenient. From then on, our experience kept getting better and better until we concluded our roadtrip about a week later. The condition of the camper were superb, perhaps better than what I expected. Complete amenities, modern and neat interior and good driving performance as well. We had no complaints and would definitely consider go for another camper roadtrip with this company.
D.
Great experience travelling with a campervan, the campervan has everything you’ll need . Cutlery and kitchen utensils, linen (bed sheets , blankets, heavy duvets for the cold nights, lots of pillows and lots of towels ) hopefully after our discussion when we returned he campervan the cleaning will get improved but the people working there are super polite, helpful and professional .
The Mercedes 3 berth is super comfortable to drive but not comfortable for whoever sits at the back seat, especially for kids in car seat
Lots of storage room in the cabin and comfy beds !
Will definitely hire again for our next Roadtrip sometime soon !
D.
Fantastic vehicle, easy rental, great company to deal with. We had a fantastic Campervan trip in south island leaving from and returning to Christchurch. Will definitely use again.
H.
Had a great time in a 3 berth. With a 6yr old it was hugely exciting for her to experience travelling and just stopping where we wanted. We took a day or so to get used to the tight space, but once the logistics of where what was stored and what to keep packed vs unpacked was sorted... We were sorted.
J.
Overall I'm very happy with the deal. A few issues detracted from a pleasant experience.
The main one was the diesel tank wasn't full when we left. After we noticed the gauge was down a fair way about 20k from pick up, we put over $60 worth in the tank. Ok we got a refund after producing the receipt on return but had to pay $15 extra as the gauge was 1 bar down on return. It wasn't worth kicking up a fuss but that policy did not improve customer relations.
Next gripe was the keys, about 10 in a bunch and it was left to us to try and figure out what did what. A simple colour code or tags would have made life a lot simpler.
Our familiarisation tour had a few shortcomings. Questions like how to change a rear wheel where met with a no idea expression. No mention of the on board safe.
Still it was a great vehicle to do our trip in. The beds (double down) where really comfortable and the thick duvet appreciated even in Summer. Think we got 10k/l diesel and she was a pleasure to drive but watch the side winds.
C.
We had a great holiday, travelling in the campervan.
Just feel that there could have been more instructions on how the van worked. We had to work some things out as we went along.
And we didn't realize there wasn't a step to get into and out of the camper. I am 4ft nothing and it did get hard at times.
But we loved our time traveling in the camper.
They had everything we needed.
If we get another chance we will do it again.
And the Top10 Holidays parks and other holiday parks that we stayed at were great. Wouldn't bother freedom camping.
P.
A wonderful time. We had no problems and the camper was just what we wanted.
E.
We loved our trip around the South Island in the campervan, but we did have a few issues with the van and the service - the hand over on the day was pretty poor we were not shown how to use the important bits eg how to empty the toilet, we were just told to check everything ourselves and watch the videos, watch the videos! its all in the videos! on how to use everything and we were rushed through the hand over. We could not find the videos on the website at all and others campers told us the same thing could not find the videos or if they did they couldn't download them. The bed was so hard we had to buy an airbed to sleep on, the gas cook top didn't work and there was a small of gas around the gas bottle so we didn't dear use it. There was no blue loo tablet in the toilet so when we did mange to work out how to empty the toilet it was pretty gross, seemly they are meant to provide these but hadn't, (they did refund us for the tablets we brought at the end though) we were given the wrong van they got ours mixed up with someone else, one of the rear break lights was not working so they had to fix this before we left as this was not checked so we were delayed leaving the depo. The breaks are pretty bad so if you need to stop suddenly good luck ! and the passenger window didn't work and the oil had been overfilled so the oil light kept coming on which they didn't seem too worried about when I called them about it - not good for the engine though. So over all we had an amazing time away but if I was paying full price for a camper van I would expect all of these things to be sorted. Next time will be doing our own checks before we leave the depo. I know its a busy place on a sat when there are lots of people picking up vans but they really need to take a little bit of time with the handover and checks. Its a fantastic way to see NZ and I highly recommend anyone traveling this way - just make sure you get a fully working camper and know how to use everything before you head off
A.
Got a great deal on the price. Camper I booked wasn't going to be ready until late in the day when I arrived to collect, was offered an alternative - slightly smaller but still fitted our needs - and refund of the difference. Wait time from checking in to driving away was about an hour in total. Was pretty busy when I arrived.
Van itself was great, clean and in good order. Staff were pleasant to deal with.
Drop-off was pretty quick and simple (about 15 mins total).
I would definitely book again of there was a further deal on price. Normal standard pricing for RV hire in NZ is ludicrous, butbthere have been some pretty good deals post-Covid so worth regularly checking. All in we had 3 nights booked, with Mighty bumper packs added, and the highest insurance level, and it was $240 - an absolute bargain. Its not really that price for 1 night with no extras!
C.
We had a positive experience with Mighty in Christchurch. The vehicle was what we ordered and was a great way to explore the South Island here in New Zealand. Our camper was not quite ready when we showed up so they gave us a car to go to the market to buy provisions for the trip so there was very little down time. There was a wait to take possession after being assigned but they were busy I guess.

Our family (along with lots of lots of other families, it seems) were delighted when THL ran the recent "Get NZ Moving" campaign. We were able to hire a Mighty Camper Double Down for $29.00 a day, and booked one for 10 days.
The pre-booking and check in went very smoothly, given the Christchurch office was very busy when we arrived.
It would have helped to have known that there was a THL - contracted shuttle service (Steve's Shuttles) available to get from the Airport to THL for $15.00 - we got stung for $26.00 by an Airport taxi driver, for a 2.4km trip.
The van itself was easy to drive, but I'm saying this as someone who owns an ex-Mighty Campervan (Lowball Rider). The wind gusts going into and out of Bluff, and coming into Christchurch from Geraldine were the only troublesome spots - the van got buffeted around a bit in those locations, but you just shift to a lower gear, lower your speed, pull over regularly to let the traffic behind you pass, and you will be good to go.
The Double Down is big enough for 2 adults and 2 children, but I'm not sure how 4 adults might cope, as the upstairs bed-space could feel a bit cramped for 2 adults, and the bed below is pretty hard, and your feet will be hanging over the end of the bed if you are over 5 foot tall and like to sleep straight.
We bought a queen sized foam mattress topper from The Warehouse and put one of the THL duvets on top of the mattress topper, and that made the bed a little more comfortable.
The THL bedding is excellent, by the way.
The 12 volt auxiliary battery in the van holds power easily for a couple of days, so if you like to Freedom camp, you could probably get away with 3 days before having to plug into a charging unit at a campground.
Some random tips from our South Island campervan experience:
1/ Watch the height of the vehicle, especially around trees and mall car parks - the van is 2.8m high.
2/ Trust the reversing camera - it is very accurate - swing wide and slow on the street turns - the back wheel will collect the curb otherwise.
3/ If you are holding up traffic - pull over in your own time and safely, but do pull over - other motorists really appreciate the gesture, especially truck drivers, who are driving to a time limit and deadline.
4/ If you are all in the van, and someone wants something, ask the person next to the "something" to hand it to you - no point 4 people all moving around in a smaller than usual space, getting in each others way.
5/ Carry coins for the holiday park laundries.
6/ Don't try and fit into 1 trip what would normally take 2 or 3 trips - this is a holiday, not a Contiki expedition.
7/ Pack as light as you can manage -there is a surprising amount of storage in the Double Down, but when we go again next time, we will be packing lighter than we did for this trip.
8/ Diesel is cheap, so don't freak out about what the road user charges might be - your fuel costs in a diesel van will still be cheaper than a petrol van.
9/ Conduct normal maintenance checks on your campervan when you are using it. We parked up next to a THL van in Twizel that had broken down because the hirers didn't think to check the oil level in the motor, so the motor ran dry and seized. It's a campervan, it's not Chitty Chitty bang bang the magical fairy car that doesn't need basic due diligence regards maintenance.
10/ Return the van to THL washed and cleaned, with the windscreen water, radiator coolant, LPG tank, and oil levels all topped up. Your post-trip check in will go very smoothly as a result, and it's just the decent thing to do.
We are looking forward to our next campervan experience in 2021.

We had the most amazing trip in our campervan. We had the Brtiz 6 berth model. Immaculate condition, clean throughout. I was a bit worried after reading a recent Stuff article bagging the company, but we had the complete opposite experience. We had a long 1 and 1/2 hour wait at the depot when collecting the vehicle, but apart fronm that, no complaints what so ever. We drove from Christchurch to Queenstown, and the supplied duvets and blankets were sufficient to keep us warm and cosy at night, along with the portable fan heater. Very easy to drive, navigation system worked perfectly, as did all the other appliances. Returning the vehicle was quick and easy.
G.
Easy to book, happy to take our money, good to confirm the booking, very good flow of information. Minor irritations such as not telling us of hidden costs such as Road User Charges, although, to be fair, they were not excessive. A much more serious source of irritation was not telling us that they have suspended their shuttle service, so once at the airport, it was either a long slog to the depot or we had to pay for a taxi, another cost. They are the only faults, and if I seem picky, that's because I am, and they are the only downside.
The staff were awesome, the van was clean and tidy, all the gear we needed was there. A pity that social distancing didn't allow us to have a first rate instruction for all the nuances of the van, but it was sufficient for a thinking person to figure it all out.
We not only rate it highly, hence the 5 stars, and recommend it to anyone, we would even book one again. Thanks to Mighty for a mighty good break. Cheers.
D.
Enjoyed my experience with Mighty Campers. The camper was tidy and easy to drive around. My only comment is there seems to be not enough staff at the branch as it took quite a while to get the camper and finally leave. Management please read this and get more staff.
S.
An absolutely amazing experience with the Britz Campervan. We had actually booked a Mighty Campervan, but to our surprise, on arrival, we were given a Britz campervan, which we weren't complaining about at all. Check in was a breeze and the staff were helpful. The person showing us around the van, didn't do a great job explaining to us all the features and seemed to be in a rush to go somewhere else. Thankfully they had a user guide in the van that explained how to use everything.
On the road, the van itself was brilliant, everything worked for starters, the showers were hot, the bed was comfortable and the cutlery was high quality, couldn't really ask for much more.
Drop off was super easy too, took about 5 minutes after a few basic questions were asked about our journey.
Overall, a fantastic experience with THL and I can't wait for our next journey with them!

The design of the van was good, though the rear view mirror fell off less than 500 meters from the pickup point as I was trying to adjust it. When I returned I was accused of "wrenching it"... WT??? I had to return a second time as the tablet did not work properly. it took 4 hours all up to finally get underway. During the trip the the smoke detector took on a life of its own and would go off at anytime, and not just the beep of a low battery, the full blast, non-stop. I had to take it off and wrap it in a tee towel and put it in a cupboard to shut it up. The shower filled up twice and left me paddling around in waste water when needing to use the toilet at night. There was a mark on the bumper that was pointed out to me by the staff as being already noted on pick up and -silly me- assumed it was on the condition report. it wasn't. On drop off it was assumed I did it. I should have thought to ask for the previous renters condition report - it would have been on there.
The drainage when emptying the waste water was incredibly slow and would dribble to a stop after the first gush, so there was little space for water I used. I copped a stone that cracked the windscreen - no-one's fault. The water hose was minus the tap fitting so could not be used till I bought one, and it was also not a drinking water quality hose, and not very long either. The waste water pipe was short and I had to park on the wrong side of the road occasionally to empty it into a public dump, which would have voided my insurance if something happened during that exercise. The power cord was just fine though. The vehicle was easy to drive and comfortable.
I know people give these hire vehicles a hard time, and I know the staff have to be assertive as customers try to pull the wool over their eyes, but I have never been so glad to get rid of a hire vehicle at the end of my rent. Thank god for full insurance, even though none of this was my fault. I am wiser for the experience.

We had a great campervan Holiday very relaxing. There were a few things that needed attention. The mattress was thin. The crockery drawer stuck . But overall it was warm cosy and perfect for our needs. We had a mechanical glitch but this was quickly sorted by mechanical contractor on Oamaru. The linen and blankets were perfect too. Speedy drop off Pick up was drawn out and explanation before driving off was inadequate. Thl site was a lifesaver for finding lots of things we needed. Our navigation system did not work / unsure if this was a standard so we used my phone google maps .
J.
Amazing road trip around the bottom half of the south island. The camper was sweet and spacious. Even with a dumping of snow the camper was warm with the diesel heater.
Definitely would love to have another holiday with a camper and highly recommend.
H.
Good campers, reliable. A few design faults, we had 3 children and while driving they were colouring in etc, every corner everything goes flying off the table so maybe a lip on tables would help....like on boats. 1 mattress was fantastic, the other was horrible. Difficult to transfer from drivers cab to rear...chair back and Passenger seat in way. Heaters good, kitchen appliances good. No problems at all. Only gave 3 stars as have nothing to compare too. But would def do again.
G.
Bit of a wait to get the campervan... but GREAT to see NZ so busy considering worldwide pandemic...every cloud!...free tea/ coffee/ hot chocolate etc... lovely friendly staff so we took the time to read the brochures etc, enjoy the 'holiday vibe'. We got the 4 berth Fiat Ducato 'roller team'. The campervan was spotlessly clean. VERY well equipped. (I did bring my own trusty non stick fry pan!) Unbelievably well thought out....nooks and crannies for everything. Powerpoints, USB connections. Diesel engine was very economical. Only 2.3 engine but never struggled at all...6 gears. Felt very safe in our campervan whilst driving. Fixed bed in back...I did being extra blankets as was zero temperatures...not needed for heat... had to get up and open windows every night it was SO SO warm! The other double bed...WOW!.... Push a button and it zoomed down out of the roof! A true holiday to not have to make up beds every day. I used our extra blankets to pad the (pretty good quality) mattress more... (each to their own I like a very soft bed). Moveable table... excellent idea. Front (very comfy) seats swivelling around fully... just excellent. Fridge freezer was surprisingly spacious and keep food perfectly cold. The electronic controls took a bit to get used to... van temperature, water, gas/electric source, fan speed... we worked it out in the end... chatted with other campers who were very happy to help out...a rundown before leaving would've been great...(but was really really busy on day we collected) in fairness instructions were provided but a bit hard to follow.. or maybe that's just us. Storage in boot was fantastic. We have HIGHLY recommended for friends and family to go and explore NZ in a campervan and we hope to do the same again one day soon. Thank you.

This was a great way to spend a week holidays in Aotearoa 👌getting into campervan in the morning went very smoothly and was on the road in know time . It’s does pay to watch online video before hand so you know how everything goes in van 👍we did some research on where you can and can’t park over at nighttime and it turn out to be good information to have👍We have a caravan and was interested to see the Difference in room and the easier to drive compared to towing🤔 my partner also drove the van where as she not to keen on towing so I was able to sit and look at scenery for a change😎 well Worth the exercise and now looking at selling caravan and buying a campervan 🤔🚐
J.
I enjoyed the experience but the camper let me down on a few things like basic checks window wipers stuffed. air in tyres and seals coming out in roof windows. Bunk bed button stiff so struggled to put bed up and down and the handover was unprofessional rush also cleanness found dried up food. But other than that was great
G.
We had a great time. Check in and out was speedy and friendly people to deal with. Only a couple of minor things we discovered soon after picking up the vehicle. The fuel tank was not completely full nor was the fresh water tank, also, there was no water in the toilet flush supply tank. Otherwise a great adventure, thank you.

We had the most wonderful family experince travelling around the south island of NZ as a family in a 4 berth camper provided by Might Rentals. It's a holiday that will stay with us for a lifetime. Was so good to not think about where we were staying each night as everything we needed traveled with us. The on board navigation, camper mate and bluetooth made getting to our destinations and finding freedom camps so much easier and stress free. The bed at the back was a bit hard and after one night we quickly realised we had to find a solution. So a quick trip to kart and $60 for a sheepskin and foam topper was a good investment for the next 12 nights of perfect sleep away. Take a hard drive or USB for the onboard TV loaded with your face movies or series for those cold or rainy days and nights. We loved our experince traveling with 10 year old twins and cant wait to do it again. Happy Travels ❣🏔😊
T.
Booking the camper and check-in was easy and the staff friendly and helpful. We had a long wait when we collected the vehicle - beyond our pick-up time of 10am and we didn't get the camper until just before 12 noon. Drop off was easy and straight-forward.
T.
Picked up our camper in Christchurch. All went smoothly but we were a little concerned about some nasty chips on the windscreen. The girl we dealt with just told us to mark them on the check sheet, she didn't too bothered.
We got on our way and after a few km we stopped at a supermarket to stock up on food. That was when we noticed the waste water drain tap was missing. We decided to return to the depot to get it fixed. As we approached the depot we spotted the missing tap at the side of the road. We picked it up and took it back. After an hour it was repaired and we were off again.
From that point on we had a great holiday. The camper was good to drive, economical and comfortable. The kitchen area was well equipped and set out well.
Drop off went smoothly and the airport shuttle was an added bonus.
The Tom Tom satnav with campermate was very helpful.
H.
Great and friendly service at check in and I recommend the Express service when you drop off, makes it very fast and instead of standing in line ( if it is busy) you just drop the keys and go. That saves time for more time viewing NZ.
The 6- berth we had was clean and well equipped with kitchen stuff, outdoor chairs and table and drove well. We did 2000 km in 7 days so a lot of driving.
South Island, NZ is a lot of driving, but always beautiful wherever you are, so a good vehicle going up and down hills is important .
I will recommend Mighty Campers to all my friends that visit NZ.
If you want to feel Mighty happy with your Camper - Go Mighty!
U.
What a wonderful experience we had! I would happily recommend a campervan from Mighty to anyone. The process is easy, staff friendly and helpful, and the camper was super clean and equipped with absolutely everything you need. Many thanks 🤩
E.
The pick up of our vehicle was not great. We waited three hours with two small children before we could drive out the door. A little warning about the wait time would have been appreciated.
GPS stopped working and needed to be reset almost daily, however when we had a question the service was great and drop off was easy and quick.
L.
I was not aware that the south of the South Island has a new name or is called Aotearoa.
The Motorhome was fine. It had all we needed. The engine was running well up and down all the hills.
Checking in was very efficient and the handing over of the motorhome.
Returning of the motorhome was also good although I have a suggestion:-
A staff member could have asked us if we enjoyed the trip etc etc, just for that personal touch and good PR.

Generally a really good experience , although I feel it should be charged per 24 hour period as by the time you pick up and drop off , it can eat into alot of the time you have paid for. The pick up time was not bad considering how busy the Christchurch branch was. One thing I would have appreciated was a little more guidance as to the workings of the vehicle once I actually got the keys. There are good instructional videos available for sure , but I could not find ANYTHING on how to set up the bed in my particular vehicle. I thought it would be obvious and it was not. The person handing me the keys was very perfunctory (despite it only being morning still) and was not open to my questions. I ended up cobbling something together to sleep on which was perfectly adequate for myself as a solo traveller, but was not the sleeping arrangement that i expected. The only obvious thing was to use to dining table as a part of the bed base which is what I did . I could not see any other boards that could be easily used to extend that I did Maybe add a bed construction video to the instructional videos for each type of vehicle. Also the electronic key was dodgy , working sometimes and not others and I could not work out how to lock the vehicle whilst I was sleeping in it.
As I had a self contained vehicle, it had a porta potty , plonked right in the middle of the floor of the van by the food prep/living area ! Great to have this possibility , but maybe it need to have a place to stow UNDER the seat as it was hard to move around it . Not too bad for 1 person , but put 2-3 in this vehicle and it seriously compromises space. It did not feel nice to have that toilet right in the middle of everything all the time whether I was going to use it or not , and I decided not to because , eeww....kitchen and eating / sleeping area !
D.
The van is clean and has everything that we need for our trip. We manage to sleep soundly & comfortably for all the nights there.
Probably due to the age of the car, the engine noise is excessive & soundproofing is not that good. There are many moving parts in the car (esp. the microwave) so there is also a lot of noise when driving. This is the first time we rented such a big campervan so I have no reference though.
Overall the experience is great, and I think travelling in a campervan is a great way to enjoy NZ & save $ on accommodation too. When I come back for a next trip, probably will consider getting a smaller & more robust campervan.
M.
We had so much fun in our camper. Absolutely perfect for our family get away. Mighty where easy to deal with, a clear email with instructions on how to use everything was sent out prior as well as having cards available on board. Thank you for helping us make memories
S.
Great experience of hiring a campervan from Mighty in Christchurch. We got one of the bargain post-covid deals so felt very lucky to have the opportunity to do a road trip we might never otherwise have done.
Definitely advise others to read the emails, watch the YouTube clips and check in online before you go to pick up, this will save you lots of time.
Everything worked on board and they provided all the clean linen and towels.
A special thanks to Tamsin for going the extra mile and posting a book back to us which we left behind in one of the cubbies on board. Thank you!
K.
On our recent trip around the south island, we were disappointed with the condition of our motorhome. Issues included one headlight going out, warning lights going on on the dash, the screen door handle breaking, so we had to rig it up with tape so we could use the door to get in and out of the vehicle. Most of all, when the parking break got stuck engaged so we couldn't move the vehicle, when I called the company on their emergency phone number, I was told they would call me back to help with our issue. They never called back. We had to figure out how to get it going again, and had the problem again the next day. We basically had to not use the parking break for the last 2 days of our trip because of the problem. Overall, the motorhome did get us to our destinations, but the issues did make it more stressful than it should have been.
L.
At Mighty they really take the time to go through the choices you have regarding the different packages for the camper rental (insurance, road taxes, etc.). They also take the time to elaborate on the features of the van and the aspects you should pay attention to. pick-up took some time, but this was well communicated upfront. Drop-off was very smooth.
C.
Great to deal with and the cheap rate was a fantastic opportunity to get out and about in our beautiful country and support local businesses, Camper was clean and drove well. Would of been good if there was a bit more of easy to follow help sheet for first time campervan people eg where to find the table , where the petrol cap was ,reminder to push in the knobs on the drawers and cupboards, let you know no USB plug etc. But over all we had a fantastic time . Thanks
N.
Loved the campervan experience. There were 4 of us friends, and the 6 berth was very comfortable. The interactions with staff were excellent, they went above and beyond to accommodate us despite us getting in late.
M.
We had a great time in our camper. We would never have done this but because of the great deals going we did and really enjoyed it. Please make it more affordable more often for kiwis to travel around their own country instead of going overseas. Awesome!!!
T.
Great fast efficient service during pick up and drop of, with extra services provided during our trip when we requested. Very helpful and accommodating on all levels. Having a fixed bed in the camper was the only let down of the entire experience, as would have preferred a seating area that transforms into bed. Excellent service excellent support otherwise 😁😁👍🏿👍🏿
S.
A very enjoyjable experience with mighty campers! Both the staff, the pick-up/drop off processes was very helpful and effectie. The van was very clean, and everything in great conditions. We had the full self contained van, including shower and gas kitchen. Unfortunatelly, we didn't have the time to try the bbq, but looked also superb!
The built-in heater was very powerful but a bit noisy.
Definetely, it is a great option to travel around New Zealand!
D.
This was our second camper through these guys and we went for a 6 Beth instead of a 2 to ensure we had a bed, table and luggage area- it worked a dream. The collection and drop off procedure was easy and the service was great. Having discs to relax and gave a cuppa while it’s all organised is also very welcome after a flight. Will definitely use these guys again (and again...)!
R.
The staff is very friendly and helpful. The location very close to the airport with a shuttle to/from the airport. Christchurch is a big station for THL (Maui, Britz, Mighty) as many renters start their journey from here, so you may experience some waiting time when taking over of the vehicle.
As the Mighty Campers are the oldest and cheapest, they may have some small technical issues, like we had difficulties opening and closing the shower door and the seal on the fridge was loose. Maintenance of the vehicles could be improved, the engine compartment of our vehicle was rather dirty and full of spiderwebs and the left front light had dead spiders and other insects in it, which you couldn't clean.
THL Christchurch also have a shop, where you can buy things that you may need during your trip. It is probably more expensive than if you buy it in a camper shop, but it saves you the trouble of looking for one.
The service for renting a Maui or Britz vehicle, is no different than for a Mighty Camper, but you will get a newer, hopefully better maintained vehicle.
A.
Please be advised that Mighty Campers have a LOT of miles on them. We had a hightop with 390,000 kilometers. It was spewing engine oil and we had to swap it out for a different camper (with only 387,000 kilometers) a few days into our trip. The folks at Mighty are very quick to respond to concerns, but there is not much they can really do. The condition of the campers are fair to poor in terms of interior. The roof of our second camper had a leak and we had to catch the drips in a bucket. An issue like that will not cause Mighty Campers to reduce your rate or give you a new camper - it's only safety issues that they care about. If you want a nice camper, you should hire something a bit higher up on the scale, like a Maui. I was surprised at how expensive it was.
M.
great service and well looked after gear, would recommend
N.
Mighty campers is collocated with britz and maui, they have a quick and easy shuttle service that goes in either direction half hourly. They have a good setup in terms of videos and road rules. They could have spent more time on descriptions of how to perform some of the finer details with the camper, however, this information is generally easy to access in the vehicle anyway. The vehicle itself was good, it handled everything we needed it to. The bed was a bit hard and I have heard that some of the other brands are a bit more comfortable, however, the cost of the mighty is a bit lower to account for that. Definitely a great way to see NZ.
B.
Brilliant! Quick pick up, friendly informative staff. The van had EVERYTHING I needed, even a coffee plunger :-) Drove well and was great on diesel. I will be booking again for future south island trips.
Z.
On initial inspection of Camper, it smelt of urine. We later discovered that the toilet cassette was broken and not sliding into the correct position. After we fully cleaned the whole unit and area, this was rectified. We were disappointed that the van of 6 years was badly dented and rusty but told this is normal due to being leased. We did have a very enjoyable 2 weeks and especially liked the U shaped lounge.
R.
Booked 1pm pickup it’s 14:49 and still waiting not happy!!!!!!
However when we were seen at 3pm very helpful young lady all went well.
We went south and after coming back from the South due to so much rain called in at Christchurch depot to change linen.
So far van is good but there are faults.
1. Remote door unlocking for front doors has stopped working. Christchurch depot replaced battery in key but still fault, as it could be hours to look at, decided to live without it working.
2. When it rains roof vent when closed leaks badly so bucket needed to catch water.
3. Again when raining toilet fan vent leaks but at least it’s dripping into the shower room.
K.
Nice vehicle. Clean and comfortable. I stayed 9 days with it and fall in love.
However, the electric charger is not relatively stable. I charge overnight on the first day, but the indicators didn't move. Luckily, the situation changed better on my third days. 😀
S.
The wait time to collect the van was just appalling.
When the company knows exacting when you are arriving, this is totally unacceptable.
Staff are really under pressure and this is not acceptable.
Our camper was not serviced to a level I would have expected. Waste water pipe not connected, solar panel flapping in the wind.
Did get a small compensation amount, but this shouldn't happen.
D.
Great experience with Mighty Campers, machine was ready for pick up on time. Everything worked as and when required. Drop off was a breeze and got a ride to the airport. Would definitely use them again and highly recommend to friends.
J.
We had an fantastic holiday, the serivce at the depot in chch was great. The VW Big 6 drove really well and we were impressed with how well it went. Would love to buy it. A few minor hiccups, but it did not ruin our holiday. The initiative to get New Zealanders on the road is brilliant - as there is no way we could have afforded it otherwise.
A.
The Motorhomes are old(7 Yera and older). Our RV had more than 220.000 km. So it´s relly not a new car - but most things were okay.No grater Problems during our Jouney (3.500 km). Fast drop off, About 2 Hours Waiting at the Beginnung in a great Hall, were other Campers (Britz etc.) also started.
i.
had a great fortnight driving around NZ, van never let us down, helpful staff would do it again in a heart beat
cheers
J.
Office was very busy so had to wait some time to go through paperwork & collect camper. Was then later in the afternoon before we left in camper.
Drop off was very quick and easy.
Camper was great and really enjoyed the experience, would do it again.
A.
We had an amazing trip! The van was clean, comfortable and super easy to drive. 100% would recommend for seeing our wee slice of paradise!
J.
Pros: Staff was friendly and helpful when we enquired about upgrading our campervan. Even showed us the other campervans and advised us about the differences.
Cons: Waiting time to get our campervan was a few hours which was surprising considering that it was still not the peak season yet.
L.
The staff were wonderful. The girls at reception and upon return were very informative and helpful. The 4 berth motorhome was roomy and had everything required. The VW motor was plenty powerful enough to go most roads with ease and comfort. Thank you.
J.
First camper pickup I had to return since there was a problem with the transmission but staff were great and swap out was instant, overall a great experience, will do again in future for sure! Highly recommend.
P.
Pick up took ages! We we suppose to get it at 10am and eventually left with our campervan at 4pm!!
Fridge door was broken inside , so we couldn't put bottles upright. this caused leakage and a lot of space loss.
Furthermore everything ok.
A.
If you are hiring a motor home or camper van from this business, please note: Maui/Britz/Mighty is a huge business with hundreds of vehicles in their rental fleet. When you arrive to collect the vehicle you will be waiting for at least one hour, most probably more. There is a very slow sign-up procedure to go through before you are given the vehicle. If you are impatient and expecting 5-star service you will just end up angry and frustrated so be prepared to w-a-I-t. In the high season there will be many other people also hiring motor homes at the same time as you. You will have to wait in a queue but there are a few tables/flat sofas to sit on. First in first served, just wait. There’s coffee/tea/water available to soothe your rage!
During this waiting time it can be very entertaining to sit beside the “Returns” area and listen/watch as furious Germans and Australians vent their spleens to nonchalant staff about broken/damaged /inadequate/ filthy aspects of their campers or the lack of roadside service. Listen up here because you may learn something to your benefit.
Most of the staff are not New Zealanders, they appear to be young transients. They are in a hurry to get the paperwork done and some do not know much about the vehicles when they are handing them to you. Make sure you get a thorough explanation of your vehicle’s facilities. Don’t let them rush through it. Make sure you go around the vehicle and observe all existing panel damage, scratches, dents etc and note these on the pre-rental check diagram you are given. The more you note the better or you may be accused of having damaged the vehicle later. Caveat emptor. Also, there are hidden costs that you may not be aware of when budgeting for your holiday. If you are driving a diesel vehicle you will be charged a certain amount per kilometre for road user charges.
Enjoy your holiday, and if you have a terrible experience with this business, please remember that not all NZrs are out to fleece you, and most are nice, approachable, helpful, relaxed people. Some may be too casual compared to what you are used to but that's the NZ way.
N.
Hurried us in, then hurried us out and on our way before explaining critical details not covered in the helpful pre-driving videos. The workers made it clear they were leaving at closing time, ready or not. Overall, the campervan held together well, though it was way past it’s prime and was more noisy than similar models Ice ridden in, in the past.
P.
Campervan was of good quality, with minor issues. But the pick-up process took two hours of waiting. And that's after we told the arrival time in advance - very slow service
J.
Something I have always wanted to do and it didn't disappoint. Was a great week around the center of the South Island.Went to Milford Sounds and stayed mostly at camping grounds however did stay beside some Lakes freedom camping and putting up the inflatable kayak on our beautiful lakes.Had plenty of room as I booked a 6 berth and so slept up in cab(didn't think I would like it but it's very roomy up there)and so we had dining table area and at the back another area so husband could read while I was watching dvd's.Cant wait to go away again in a campervan.
G.
Had a great time in our Mighty Deuce. Our reversing camera (which we were told wasn’t standard) stopped working half way through our trip which was a bit of a bummer, but a bonus that it was included and that we had it working at the start. Will surely be back to spend more time.
T.
Very pleased with Mighty Campers. From online booking process to customer service desk they were easy and very professional to deal with. The campervan was excellent and was equipped with everything we needed. Would highly recommend Mighty Campers.
G.
Was the best trip ever. Can't wait to do it again 🥰
S.
We hired a Britz camper van from mighty campers south island New Zealand for ten days.
The van was clean and equipped with every thing we needed.
We would defiantly use mighty campers again if we return in the future.
S.
Our trip was excellent due to the efficiency of Mighty campers. Super organised and instructions were clear which enabled us to have a non fuss trip. Will use again
B.
We had a wonderful trip around the South Island ,8 Days was not quite enough time to see it all but will see it the next time we go on a road trip, our first time in a camper and it was fun and easy to drive
A.
Apart from waiting for two hours after scheduled collection time for the van, it was great. Everything worked and it drove well. Drop off was a breeze and was a great way to see New Zealand.
C.
Van was a bit banged up but had the essentials. Pity about the breakdown but the vans were comfortable to drive. Hence the average score.
P.
Hassle free pick up and return, very relaxing experience. We were lucky and got an upgraded camper, everything was clean and worked well. Overall excellent experience, would do it all again!
S.
We were happy with the van experience. Definitely the way to see New Zealand!! My husband hit a boulder and cracked the bumper. Luckily he had purchased the insurance. No issue at all!!!!!👍👍
K.
This company were very easy to deal with and very accomodating. Pick up and drop off was quick and easy. The van that we had was great. Definitely recommend this company!!
R.
We rented a 4up Camper for the 3 if us. We absolutely loved our trip and although a little dated, the can didn't miss a beat. Clean and reliable.
R.
The staff at Queenstown were really helpful they replaced our drain hose, also in Christchurch they fixed our hot water problem ,all up a great road trip ,Thank You Mighty Campers.
P.
Despite the Mighty Van breaking down and losing some time, Emily was very helpful and stayed back and assisted us with an upgrade. We were also offered some goodwill and a shuttle back into town. Many thanks.
D.
Staff at Christchurch branch very helpful and friendly
Service was excellent
Camper van did what we needed them to do
The only problem was that the mattress was to thin had to double up to get some comfort out of them
Other than that good experience over three weeks and 5800kms of travelling over both North and South Islands excellent views excellent scenery
locals friendly and informative
Other tourists friendly too
Caravan parks excellent too
G.
Check in was very slow, although it was extremely busy at that time. Maybe an express check in for NZ license holders would reduce the congestion and get the locals away quicker.
J.
We had good experience wit first time using campervan. We had few issues at first but it was fixed. 😊 Thanks
M.
We had no fridge for 3 days ,due to a wire that was off ,,next time we would choose a bigger camper without toilet an shower ,however the fridge was repaired on our travel and we did receive compensation for the inconvenience
F.
The staff ensures that everything is in order with the csmpers all the time.
M.
Well equipped camper and quite spacious. Very fuel efficient. We were upgraded... thank you!
E.
Highly recommend hiring a camper, such a great way to travel. We were satisfied with the customer service from check in, during our travels, to check out.
E.
great staff - especially Mavis going above and beyond to get stuff left in the van
vans are excellent - great product and hope price is reduced in the future!!
M.
Had wonderful experience of driving campervan in South New zealand. Vehicle was okay and gave almost no trouble in 18 days of travel.
M.
Very uncomplicated and good company to rent Camper vans. Customer service was very friendly. I would book again a mighty camper van!
T.
Some minor niggles regarding the camper but still a good company with a great service. Professional service and awesome time discovering and campervaning with the family.

(Translated) Traveled through New Zealand with a Mighty Camper in November. We picked up the camper in Christchurch and returned it to Auckland. The collection took quite a long time, despite the fact that we had agreed on a time. This was because on that day had delivered a lot of campers, our camper was fully equipped: good heating, oven / grill, microwave and extractor. All consumer items were also present to a large extent: linen, crockery, etc. The camper drove perfectly and was equipped with a navigation system / tablet. It could also be used as a WiFi hotspot (max 1GB). Very handy. We have not encountered any problems. In total we drove over 3500 km with our camper. Both the collection and delivery went very smoothly. Friendly staff. I can certainly recommend Mighty Campers.

(Translated) Here you can pick up or hand in your mighty. But also Maui and Britz.
The signage of the station to find it is bad. Your borrowed GPS from mighty has not saved any stations in advance on its tomtom. It makes (no) sense.
Do not be surprised when you hand in ... ... this is calculated based on your km performance. At 4000km it's about $ 250 NZ. Otherwise the return is quick ... at least with the all IN insured. But should you bring your car here ..... take your time. You will have to wait nice here. ... take a free coffee. ...or two ;).
(Original)

(Translated) An experience that could have been most satisfactory. The vehicles are well equipped despite that ours was dirty during the pick up and the dirty water tank clogged. Pleasant to drive and relatively well designed, it could have been worth a 4 or 5 star without problem without counting on the customer service which earned it rather difficult the two stars. Total misunderstanding of the team faced with the international health situation and the travel constraints that this implies (repatriation, reimbursement, drop off in another city and earlier than expected ...). Insurance or not, they find a way to charge clients a little more and make a little more profit ... Deplorable attitude in the current situation.
(Original)
T.
(Translated) The performance of the car is not bad, and the service attitude is also good, but it will take a long time to get campvan in late December. In addition, it is better if there is DUMPING STATION.

車的性能還不錯,服務態度也不錯,但12月下旬要排隊半天才可以取到campvan。 另外,如果場內設DUMPING STATION就更佳。

(Translated) The van (Deuce) itself is well equipped (microwave, kettle, cutlery, etc.) and allowed us to spend a great time roaming in NZ. On the other hand, the negligence of the users / staff (who returned with his muddy shoes in the bathroom for the check in) forced us to spend our first evening in the van to clean it ... In addition, Even if the vans are aging, there are some disturbing details: the shower did not work during the pick up (the pipe did not come out), problem to leave solved by the staff when we went back (but the pipe had to be left in the "out" position ...), the toilet cassette was not ready for use (no chemicals in it), the level of clean water was not achieved ...
Basically, a good experience tainted by the negligence of the users / preparers of the van ...
(Original)
