J. W.Great spot for a good feed and a beer. Staff were great although a drink order was missed. Had a laugh and they got on with it. All up, a great place to stop by.
S. M.Popped into this pub the other day immediately met by laughing and joking bar staff. I chose to sit outside in the sunshine wow what view definitely a great location. I ordered the jolly beef burger with the extra chunky chips(not enough places do chips like these) very tasty all washed down with a pint of Tenants. Worth a visit.
K.Oh the chips are so good, fat, fluffy and just the right amount of salt. Mushroom sauce was good on steak. My daughter loved her burger too.

C. S.Great little pub. Amazing selection on tap. The night I was there they were slightly understaffed, communicated that and worked a slightly different system that, just worked. Drinks and food were quick, and the pour of Kilkenny excellent, and all the staff attentive to everyone and super hard working.
C. O.Every time I've gone, it's been great! Definitely a must if wanting good bar food and/or a cold one when visiting Taupo. Had a chicken burger of recent, and it's the best burger I've had all year 👌 Great service with a lakefront view.
D. W.Great pub with good honest pub meals. You won’t leave hungry! Whether it’s a nice sunny day and you sit outside or inside by the fire you get Great Lake views. We didn’t check the opening hours and accidentally turned up 40 minutes early before opening (staff were prepping for the day). The super friendly bar guy popped out to the car and offered that we could have a coffee and hang outside until officially opened. That sums up the amazing service right there in my opinion.
S. C.We had two great burgers. One beef and one chicken. Both with a unique spin thanks to the toppings. The service was the best and our orders were delivered quickly. A bit out from the main part of town but a pleasant walk along the lakeside track.
T. B.Excellent staff and atmosphere. We dined out with the kids on a very busy Friday night. Sadly, a couple of the kids meals were missed. The staff were incredibly apologetic and brought the kids ice cream which they suitable devoured! Shout out to the staff for their understandingand kindness, you guys were awesome and made the kids night!
J. O.Pretty good pub food in a great spot! We had the fish & chips (friggin amazing batter) and pan fried fish on mash with creamy caper sauce. Both were really enjoyable. Service great. Pints a little on the expennie side but nice staff, good service and good atmosphere. Would cone back again 🙂

T. M.Came for dinner, is definitely more of a pub styling then dinner but was still lovely. Food came quickly and staff were brilliant. Very affordable prices too. Only thing that sucked was that there was not a lot of parking.

Our food was great, nicely cooked and plenty of it, arrived in good time. A good range of food on the menu (even a shrimp cocktail).
It was nice and warm inside as well, when it was quite cold outside.
The only negative I found was it occasionally got a bit noisy - not enough to stop us coming back the next evening as well though!
I'll happily come back the next time I'm in Taupō.
L. B.What can I say?! We, 4 of us, went to Jolly Good Fellows last Saturday night to have something to eat and to watch the rugby. With only an hour or so before kick-off, we called to book a table with a ‘view of the TV’ and they very kindly fitted us in. The food was fantastic – Crispy Chicken Tacos, Bangers & Mash, Moroccan Lamb and Feta Salad – and the service was even better. We were incredibly well looked after by Kierra, Gemma and Loui. It was a busy night, but they made us feel very welcome, that nothing was too much trouble, and even provided table service, which went some way to make up for the crap rugby. I can’t recommend this place highly enough.

Only weekends are very busy it’s too tough to find out the car park near the shop. But other times it’s very easy to get the car park. We enjoy our evening over. I think you also will enjoy there food and Beauty of lake Taupo.

P.I Am in Taupo once a year usually in the winter, and this was the first time I've been in to Jolly Good Fellows, and It was an awesome experience, service was amazing, food was excellent, and I was so happy to find a place that has Kilkenny on tap (surprisingly hard to find) I look forward to my next visit. J. H.We dined at Jolly Good Fellows last night. The bar and restaurant were full (so good to see) - We had booked for a Table of 8 - The staff - every single one of them smiling, happy and super helpful.
The entrees and drinks came out so fast - followed by dinner. The food was some of the best we have had in Taupo - and as a local we do like to eat out.
We are lucky to have so many great options in Taupo. Sif you haven't had a meal at Jolly's - we recommend you stop in and give it a go!!

B. J.Great bar for a drink with mates. Good atmosphere and friendly staff. We called up 15 minutes before the kitchen closed hoping to sneak in for dinner and they took our order over the phone and organised to cook our meals while we headed to the pub so we wouldn’t miss out. Arrived and the meals were brought out almost straight away.
Highly recommend the beef burger. Full of flavour and fresh ingredients. Huge! And a great range of beer on tap.
G. S.Just got some food from the Jolly Good Fellows while visiting Taupo. This is a English styled pub & resteraunt just off the lake front which give great views. There is also outdoor seating available also.
The menu offers a traditional English food and drinks. The food i ordered was delicious and was a good sized portion. (Bangers and Mash) I also ordered a pint of Guinness but it wasnt that nice to be honest, but the pint was finished with a tradional shamrock which was a nice touch. But being Irish I am used to high quality pints of Guinness and had to leave the last 1/4 unfinished as it had quite an after taste.
But apart from the pint everything was great. The setting is very casual and the service was brilliant. I would recommend this place to anyone looking to have some casual food or drinks in the Taupo area.

P. D.Had a large party booked, but only two staff were on. Young fella was stressed but handled himself well. Once the drink orders were dealt with and food orders into the kitchen, the meals came out quickly and were very tasty. Coffee was good too. The brunch menu was reasonably limited with not a lot of flexibility for dietary needs, but everyone ate a decent "pub" meal.

Do they not realise that we will come more often, if it was more affordable. There are similar places in town that sell similar craft beer at a much lower rate.

J.We celebrated our Xmas Eve dinner at Jolly Good Fellows while we were on holiday. Service = ok, meals = average, pricing = I considered slightly over priced for what we were plated up.... views = stunning!

Husband very happy with the local craft beer option and they even had Tennents lager on draft! A real thrill for my scottish husband. Staff incredibly friendly. Waited far too long for meals to arrive.
I ordered fish on onion mustard mash with green beans. No onion or mustard in the mash which was neither creamy or mushy but a hard block.
Waiting staff did the best they could as too the kitchen staff.
They had obviously over booked with another big party also dining there along with many indoor & outdoor customer's.
Disappointing but would give another go as most other meals were spot on.

D. H.We were in Taupo for the weekend. A large group dining in on Saturday night. Still in Level 2 mode and the staff were very good with the rules. But, most important, the food was fabulous. I had the grilled fish and my fiance had lamb shank. Absolutely worth dining in.

J. O.We were a large party of 10. Wait staff were young and friendly although they did seem to make a hash of the drinks orders. I had the tee bone and it was huge and beautifully cooked....and I am a big eater. The entrees and mains all arrived within an hour which was a pleasant surprise given how busy the place was. All in all a good experience and we would eat there again. Was moderately concerned that the bill would be wrong as we had al been drinking. However the bill was spot on. Well done Jolly Good Fellows.

The atmosphere is really great and the menu is so varied and suited all 15 of us.
The portions are super generous and the prices are fair.
We heard about this place from friends, with a big group ranging from English people, Thai people and Kiwis everyone was happy and that doesn’t happen very often when we all go out.
If you go to Taupo put it on your list you will not regret it.
I didn’t get the name of the person who looked after us which I regret I hope she reads this review.

B. H.Friendly staff. Quite efficient. Great location & view. Excellent garden bar. Poor form being served beer in a pint glass that is obviously come straight out of the dishwasher and is piping hot. Food was okay but very expensive. $18 for a shrimp cocktail that was clearly out of a can and $42 for a steak that was full of sinew you and fat. 2.5 stars

P. M.Varied menu, friendly and attentive staff working under difficult circumstances (Cov19 level 2 restricions). Good range of real ale although now sadly depleted until next shipment again due to Cov19. No musak or tv ( there is a tv but the sound isn't on and it's not visible from most seats.) All the meals we have had here have been excellent but I'd particularly recommend the Thai beef salad and the Beef and Guinness pastie.

B. L.Nice setting outside and friendly staff, our food arrived quickly considering the place was quite busy at the time. My Steak meal was delicious, however my Wife said her Chicken was dry and unfortunately our 3 year old daughters fish (kids meal) had 5 bones in it. Luckily Mum spotted them when she cut her food up. We let the staff know, as this is obvoiusly dangerous for a small child. Not a place we would rush back to despite the lovely staff.
In response to the reply from Jolly Good Fellows - Of course you don't intend on serving fish with bones to kids ! Thanks for the reply anyway..
K. G.We usually eat here when we are passing thru Taupo, the meals here are really good. We ate lunch here today and the young man serving us was doing it all by himself. He did an amazing job as he was the only staff member working front of house and it was quite busy. Our meals and drinks arrived in good time and we enjoyed them. Would definitely recommend!!

Only problem we had initially was that we had a hard time finding the place from the main road. The signage doesnt look well lit in the evening let alone the front is covered with shrubs. Also did not find any parking space for customers. Apart from those still a great restaurant.

L. V.Had a good meal here and the wait staff were great on a Sunday night. On arrival the duty barman did everything possible to avoid catching our eye to the point of ignoring us with no other customers waiting for service. Our bar order was finally taken by a waitress and then served by him. He seemed more concerned with chatting to locals and his three friends sat at the bar. Rather than walk drinks the short distance to the restaurant, he would bellow 'order's up' at waitresses standing only feet away. An interesting character perhaps trying to emulate Churchill who features in the decor. A little more courtesy would have given five stars.

My meat loving pal had a tough time chewin' his dry as dog balls pork (he declined gravy upon the waitress' suggestion, so his own fault, really), but was able to wash it down with a nice glass of sav. My tomato soup was stunning, served with crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside ciabatta. Our waitress was a truly beautiful soul, with an infectious personality and smile. We were sorry to decline dessert from her, but we promise to be back for it next time! A warm, inviting atmosphere.

Y. S.I got the the salmon and roasted potato salad. I was expecting the salmon and potatoes to be the main part of the dish oh and green beans. The main part of the dish was lettuce leaves. About half a cup of potatoes, very tiny, i counted about 6. And half a cup of green beans. And a sprinkle of raw salmon all for $23. I was so disappointed as mine was 2nd to last to come out of 7 and every bodies was huge yummy looking meals. I expected salmon steak, noticeable amount of potatoes and beans and a nice salad not just leaves. So don't order that, not worth it. I wished i'd taken it back, but was embarrassed to.

I left my iphone behind while travelling through taupo back to auckland and these found it, called one of my contacts to get them to let me know they had it, then posted it back to me free of charge. The atmosphere is very fun and laid back. We wished the menu had a few more different items on it but everything we ate in our 3 visits was really good. Prices are very reasonable. We stayed just around the corner from here so it was not only convenient but also the best food and drinks and people that we found during our time in New Zealand.
