T.St Johns Tutu Totara is a special place. It is the resting place of Octavius Hadfield who was from 1870-1893 the Bishop of Wellington and 1890-1893 the Primate of New Zealand. The building is made of reinforced concrete, this material preferable to use to the original timber church on the site that was burned down by arsonists. Though consecrated St John the Baptist, it is better known by the name St Johns Tutu Totara after the farm that its built on. This helps to avoid confusion with the other St Johns church in Hunterville which is part of the Parish.
