A cafe that lives up to its popularity! The coffee was good, had a sort of deep flavour to it that I can't quite describe in words. The matcha waffles were also soft and delicious, not too sweet.

I went to dear jervois on the 3th of December for breakfast - I took the eggs Benedict full with bacon and I also had an açai bowl - service was quick and nice - we had one meal go back because my partner ordered salmon eggs Benedict but they accidentally gave bacon (but it wasn’t a huge fuss, they took every nice) I have to say, I was told the eggs Benedict here is exceptional, however to me it was quite flavourless… I still ate it all, but I was more or less looking for the good reviews i had read before I came here As for the açai bowl - that was sooooo delicious, we really liked it. The drinks were pretty good too! I had a squeezed apple juice and my partner had a coffee - you’ll see what we ordered in the pictures Everything we ordered came to $80 Other than that, we were so happy to be back out and about and supporting local cafes. We had a good time

Despite the fact I didn't check the ingredients before ordering and went into anaphylaxis, I still give this place five stars. The lovely man who attended to us asked me five times if I was OK. He had a caring, genuine vibe. The food was still scrumptious despite this. The presentation, service, quality of excellent ingredients and the delicious meals make the slightly elevated price well worth it and value for money. Don't come here expecting a cheap eat, you'll need to go elsewhere for that. I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious and how well presented the food was.

Food was absolutely delicious, ordered the vegan macro bowl - good portion of avocado, and the dressing on the broccolini was divine, also especially loved the kumara. Would however forgo the tofu as it was a bit bland compared to the rest of the dish, and the carrot spirals were very long. Staff were friendly and helpful with recommendations on what to have, and the food was served very quickly despite how busy it was. Definitely will be coming back

Don't think, have a drink! And if your hungry the food is great too! Honestly was up the road at the butchers son they were at around 40%full and the food wait time was going to be 1.5hrs... No thank you, saw this place and what a find. Staff greeted us friendly and smiling, coffee cam out fast and food was out within 15mins of ordering. The dishes we had were all on point and staff asked if we were all vegan and told us about optional sauces for vegans. Venue itself is very easy going, you can rock up in stubbies or a nice dress. Give it a go!

I have wanted to visit this cosy cafe for a while after hearing from other people who have been that you must try there famous matcha waffles and gluten free waffle with seasonal fruits which really lived up to there hype. I'll definitely get the waffle again. Friendly staff, excellent service and would definitely be back to try something else on there menu and ideal place to meet someone.

There was nothing I could fault about this cafe. The menu is amazing, offers a wide range and caters to different dietary needs. This place is always busy yet the staff are always cool and calm and always manage to find us a table. The food is amazing, full off flavour and I literally want to try everything on the menu. The poke bowl was so fresh and it was simple which allowed the flavours to speak for themselves and the mushrooms and potato Rosti was mouth watering, the lentils that come with it are sweet and it just makes all the flavours mesh well. The smoothies are awesome, a must try with your meal. You will not be disappointed when you come to dear Jervois.

I came here 3 times in 4 days during a stay in Auckland, that’s how much I enjoyed the food and wanted to come back and try the rest. Overview of what I ate: Avocado toast on rye - sub eggs for haloumi - loved the pot of olive oil on the side. The whipped feta was to die for. Creamy mushrooms - add potato rosti. If you’ve got a big appetite this is the meal for you. It was so moreish and the rosti was cooked to perfection. It’s a big meal so just be aware before ordering. Vegan tacos - Mum and I shared these as an appetizer. They were a great mix of veggies and beans and the salsa on top created a really delicious balance to the whole thing. I was scared the refried beans might overpower the whole thing but they didn’t at all. Harissa lamb with seasonal roast vegetables - soooo many veggies, the artichoke purée on the side was heavenly and the lamb was cooked to perfection and plenty of it. The staff are really helpful and patient with any requests and amendments to the menu. Great coffee too. 100% recommend this spot to anyone passing through Auckland

Great cafe for brunch in Ponsonby with an extensive menu offering plenty of classics such as eggs benedict and also many vegetarian and gluten free options. Gets very busy on weekends and reservations are not accepted so expect a wait. Food was pretty good but also a tad bit expensive.

Food is imaginative and delicious. Not just another cafe serving avo/eggs on toast. There is a creative flair to the meals that puts it a cut above the other cafes. I wouldn't have minded slightly bigger portions. Gluten free options available. The place was quite crowded and a bit noisy on the ground level. Fortunately, we were downstairs where it was a more quiet and secluded. Not sure if you can book, but if went back, we'd want to go downstairs. Service is friendly and informative. Definitely worth going out of your way to visit if you're not from around here.

One of my Favorite staples! Amazing food which caters for all dietary preferences. Luckily friendly staff was pretty helpful to manage a spare table for us in such a fully packed restaurant. Coffee was wonderful! Indeed, I will come and have coffee again @ Dear Jervois!

I love this cafe, their kimchi fried rice use to be my favorite especially their sous vide egg - but it's just a normal poached egg now which is a little disappointing.... but other than that they still make good coffee..

We got the deconstructed breakfast taco and the mushrooms on potato rosti stack (pictured) and they were delicious. The feta whip on the breakfast taco was devine and the mushroom stack had a nice, sweet taste to it. Also got 2 batch brews which were equally as good

When I go out for breakfast I like options which I can't easily replicate at home and Dear Jervois delivers! Big all day menu, lots of delicious options so be ready for food envy. Great coffee and smoothies too. A little on the expensive side but worth it and a treat.

Enjoyed my experience at Dear Jervois but there wasn’t anything that made is an amazing one. That said I would try again. We did however went to get the menu ourselves but there was a rush of people after we sat down. Coffee was good and I ordered the mushroom & potato rosti stack with smoked salmon. Setting was a little rustic, but nice and bright inside. The place is dog friendly and would try one of the many waffle options next time.

Good place with cool vibes and very very friendly staff... cosy and always tidy cafe with great food... the reason I am giving 3 stars is because I didn’t like the coffee... I ordered a flat white but it tasted kinda bitter and strong... although I liked the place and especially the vegetarian tacos I ordered... they were pretty fresh and delicious... if they had better coffee it would be my favorite cafe in Ponsonby by far...

Cosy cafe with an extensive all day menu. Staff were very friendly, helpful and clearly enjoying their job. Service was fast, despite it being very busy when we were there on a Sunday afternoon. We devoured our vegan tacos, veggie burger and scrambled eggs on toast (from the kids' menu). The berry smoothie we ordered was outstanding as well. I loved their coffee too, although it was VERY strong so I would recommend ordering it with milk if you can't handle very strong coffee. ;) I would have given them five stars if the toilets had been clean and the portions a bit bigger.

Most fun cafe on Jervois Rd. Beautiful and delicious food means there is a never-ending queue for the local fashionistas to get a table here. Fantastic rustic interior and great service, definite neighborhood highlight!

We sat down and had to wait around 10 minutes for any of the waiters to even recognise us, let alone getting given menus. It didn't take long for our order to be taken thankfully and our coffee didn't take long to come at all. However we then waited over half an hour for our food to come out. I don't mind waiting for food when I know it may take a while, but in this case, we weren't notified and also I don't see how it can take so long to cook a couple eggs, waffles and pancakes. To put salt in the wounds, as we waited for our food to come, we got the pleasure of watching the tables around us receive their food before us. Even though they sat down and ordered after us, but also ordered some of the same items as us. That aside, the food when it came was well presented and tasted really good!

Love the environment! Highly recommend the Poke bowl which has fresh sashimi salmon, avocado, seaweed, pickled ginger & sesame seeds on quinoa rice. Enjoy lots!

I saw this place in a food blog and I'm pretty disappointed at the portion sizes and flavour. It sounds so fancy but it's incredibly underwhelming :(( I don't usually leave reviews but I just had to for this one because people need to know. The eggs were soft boiled and not runny it made me so sad..

A local friend recommended us here for brunch at our last day in Auckland. It was popular so we waited a bit to be seated. The place has great ambience with warm, friendly and efficient staff. The food is nicely presented. We love their coffee and delicious fresh mushrooms and bacon. We spent NZ 83 dollars for 4 people.

The food at this place was really enjoyable. Service was pleasant and interesting. The peanut butter cookies are a very good finish to a light lunch. I would certainly recommend this place. I intend to return to see if they have added to the extensive dried pot plant arrangements.

Great place to grab delicious food and perfect coffee. They serve flight coffee and know what they are doing. Been there a great many times and have never been disappointed. These guys just got their stuff going right. On a side note: all eggs and meat is free range and their dishes are really well thought through. Flavour wise the food is really well balanced and the salmon is even smoked in house. For coffee lovers they even have a nice changing single origin filter going on. I was nearly finished with my review, but then I remembered: they only recently started serving beer on tap, got a good selection of craft beer and wine - I mean, what more can you wish for in a cafe? Oh and sometimes it's packed, but instead of complaining about the wait time, I'd consider it as a really good sign as everyone wants to be a part of it, haha. Look at this novel I wrote here. I got carried away. Bottom line is: go there and check it out. Never disappointed me!

Ordered chicken burger,granola,waffles and unicorn white chocolate shake. Food was very average. Hand cut fries with burger were quite nice , Granola was decent however Waffles were not cooked properly, bit bland and served with a very little portion of icecream. I LOVE THIS PLACE! It has such a nice vibe and its in the perfect location. I can also bring my dog with me and sit outside, which is great. THE FOOD..... is sooooo good! and there are so many options on the menu to choose whether your in the mood for sweet or savoury, big or small they have something for you. My personal favourite item on the menu is the Acai bowl, it is one of the best I've ever had. the presentation is amazing and the flavours are so good and i would highly recommend you try this once quarantine is over. However, I am not able to get the acai bowl any more because sadly granola and braces just don't work, but its okay because now i get avocado on toast which tastes like heaven :))))

Probably worth the hype. I visited on a weekday lunchtime which meant there was space available. However, the table hadn't been wiped and I'm docking a star for that. The service was friendly, very young servers who seem well trained. My chicken salad was delicious. I mean, stonkingly good. It comes with warmed courgettes (admittedly my favourite vegetable), a tasty dressing and was a perfect amount for lunch. I tried a mocha, which came in a small glass (in typical hipster style) and was perfectly nice. Pricing was a little on the richer side, but not too bad. I did notice that cakes were very expensive! But all in all very nice.

Very expensive considering the amount of brunch spots near by who offer the same types of food for more reasonable prices. Staff are extremely friendly and accommodating, though. The food and coffee is good, I've tried the Matcha Waffles and Avocado and Dhukka. Really good atmosphere, it's lovely to sit outside in the sunshine or in the courtyard. Only gripe is how expensive the food can be.

Chloe the barista makes the best mocha I have ever tasted, rich, creamy, not too sweet and full of flavour. If you're lucky you'll be served by Rob who has the most wonderful, colourful style.

Very good coffee, the matcha waffles are to die for, but I’ve been super disappointed with the pancake stack, drowned in chocolate, making it just chewy and too dense. This morning I tried the smashed avocado, first got an eye roller for swapping the poached to scrambled egg whites and then just really disappointed and confused about getting it served on a sweet maple bread. Trying too hard to make it more special, while a classic like smashed avo doesn’t need much. Good old sourdough and maybe some chili flakes would make this just perfect. I really like the place but the attitude coming from the kitchen wasn’t appreciated at all. All other staff is super friendly and accommodating.

Nice location, good coffee, but my zucchini fritter was disappointing, no flavour, too much cheese, and on menu it said fritters so was expecting 3 small fritters. Also, beetroot was dehydrated and grated, would have been better freshly cooked. Lemon mayo had no lemon flavor whatsoever.

I have been here a number of times for coffee, I haven't actually sampled their cuisine. The service is attentive and friendly from my experience. The coffees are good for myself who drinks long blacks. I would recommend this place.

Matcha Waffles, fantastic. Imunity juice, amazing. Prawn dumpling soup, very nice with a good balance between the saltiness of the soup and veges with dumplings. However, what I primarily ordered was the Breakfast taco and it seemed to be having a very hard time trying to identify itself. The avocado salsa and tortilla, great. Chorizo and its saltiness, understandable. But the scrambled eggs had quite the kick which was quite a pain in the stomach, literally. Overall there was too much profile in the dish. I know trying to cover all the menu at its finest can be hard, but why would there be such a menu when you could get a perfectly fine dish at the same price and same place? However everything else was great. Though I was quite suprised at being suggested ice cold coffee with honey(which is quite insoluble at low temperature) instead of vanilla which they do not have.

The coffee here was good and the chai latte was amazing - spicy and warming. I ordered the Eggs Benedict which included an amazing potato rosti and perfectly cooked bacon. My brunchmate ordered the zucchini fritter - it sated her but she said she wouldn't order it again. Service was a bit of a let down as we had to get our own menus from the waiter's station and it took 10 minutes to even get water for the table.

Upon arrival I like to mark with 4 stars and then see how it goes between ordering and final consumption. Opinion so far, rustic, lively but too many children for my liking. Food ordered......let's see if the various Auckland food critics know anything about food......which is always questionable. I remain positive and somewhat enthused. :-)... so the food arrived. The poached eggs are overdone which is the ultimate of let downs when a dish relies in the yolk. The pork been waffle tastes fine but looked like it was put together from the chiller cabinet at countdown.

It's also a Bit of an icon too me it's a place from the 50s era as it is for a lot of these places slowly being changed from developement. Has some early stuff from the beginning of the century as with those shops still around that area. Mainly old places homes from the early Victorian era.
