Reviews of Dizengoff
G.
Went here for a Saturday morning breakfast. The atmosphere was nice and laid back and the food is pretty good. I had a matcha latte and the french toast. The French toast came with fruits, caramelised bananas syrup and a cream. It was delicious and well portioned.
S.
Excellent fast service, ordered the feta salad which was amazing and had the best cheese to salad ratio I have ever encountered. Definitely recommend this place for brunch.
N.
Great coffee with the best cheese scones in town. You may need to be there early as once I went at 8 a.m. (weekday) and the scones were gone! Yup, sad day that was. Their eggs benny with salmon and avocado are quite delicious too. Special props to Anita who's asked our names when we started going there and now greets us by our names, and always has a smile on her face.
j.
I've been here a few times already and I really enjoyed the experience. The staff is very friendly and attentive and the coffee is great, but the food is absolutely amazing! I definitely recommend Dizengoff for breakfast, brunch or lunch. Last time I was here with my work colleagues and we were all impressed.
K.
Eggs benedict were good. Scrambled eggs were scrambled very good and pastrami cooked well but is spicy (which I like) but others may not. As you can see, presentation is really nice as well.
Reason for 3 star is because Chai tea was foamy and milky and could barely taste the tea.
The French toast tasted like eggs, the batter they use is egg heavy and I had to add extra maple syrup and banana to disguise the egg taste (toasted/grilled banana is a nice touch).
Lastly, the carrot cake wasnt too good and a little on the sweet side.
S.
Great coffee at 6:39 am? I don't know where to get coffee, let alone great coffee. And it's open 364 days a year. I can't believe I've lived almost 20 years in Auckland and didn't try Dizengoff.
A.
A Jewish Cafe in Ponsonby - who would have thunk! Lovely ala carte meals - the pasta is yum. Coffee is pretty impressive too
E.
nice place to have brunch
with easy access
street parking
A.
Great place. Very pleasant experience overalls. Nice food and drinks. Good service and cleanliness.
L.
Had a great eggs benny and a top notch coffee last Sunday. Unfortunately we were only hours into level 2 (from 3) and they were not adhering to level 2 protocol, they should have had table service with one server per table, we were directed to order at the counter.
G.
The best French Toast there is. Love those mushrooms too. Very decent coffee. Efficient, accurate service. Seems like parking and seating should be a problem at peak brunch time on a Sunday, but it rarely is, though I usually only go there with my partner and never with a group more than four. Dizengoff always pleases.
<EDIT> Ok in recent months (pre lockdown), the French Toast suffered a catastrophic decline in deliciosity. For some reason the fabulous fruit compote and grilled banana have made an exit to be replaced by whatever fresh fruit happens to be around. I got them to make it the old way once, but it wasn't the same. The compote, I mean. The magic is gone, and so is the labneh. Whyyy? Oh, well. Nothing good can last forever. The mushrooms are still delish tho, and so is the coffee.
P.
Perfect place to have breakfast or lunch. Prompt service.
G.
Even though Dizengoff was full, there was a lovely sense of peace. We had tried one up the road but the noise and clatter was manic. Coffee was mellow... mmm.. Porridge was scrumptious and generous. Hubbies full breakfast was huge amd very tasty. We will be back.
M.
So nice to try a place out for the first time and find everything purrfect 🙂
C.
Good food, nice atmosphere to the place and the staff were really good. I would happily go back.
P.
Diz opens early and is fully busy by 6.30am because the espresso is excellent. The sausages & eggs is a favourite brekky.
S.
This cafe is now an Auckland institution. I have been visiting regularly for more than 20 years. It’s menu, in quality and presentation, has not changed. If patronage is an indication then ‘Dizzies’ has got it right.
B.
Great coffee.
Nice ambience.
This cafe has been around for years and there's a reason why. It's good.
I did feel $30 for breakfast and a coffee was a bit steep. It was big and tasty and satisfying though.
B.
The serve amazing coffee here. Above par customer service delivery! Well done guys!
S.
Hands down one of the best breakfasts I've ever had. The mushrooms were amazing, and the scrambled eggs were perfectly cooked, soft but not too soft, with a side of pesto for dipping. Great coffee too. You must eat here.
K.
Very busy on boxing day and the waitresses couldn't keep up ..We had to ask twice for our coffee . On the plus side I had one of the most delicious ,nutritious and filling breakfast salads I've ever had ..full of plant based protein like avocado and grilled mushrooms with a mixture of different colour vegetables and herbs and several different dressings which worked very well together .... it was full of surprises and the soy lattes when they finally did arrive were very good
J.
My favourite Auckland cafe. Great, strong coffee. French toast plus the mushrooms are the best I have had respectively anywhere. My favourite on the menu though is the full breakfast. Definitely worth a visit and I'm already looking forward to my next meal there!
P.
Meal was good and so was the service
A.
Coffee comes out so fast, definitely the spot when you're in a rush, haven't tried the food but will go back to try!
S.
I have only tried a cappuccino takeaway on a lazy sunday morning so I can only comment on that food wise. The place is kids and pet friendly and is good for groups. It has outdorr tables for the warmer months buf also inside sitting. Service is okay. The coffee itself wasn't great but that it just a matter of personal taste. The place was busy and everyone was getting food and eating the whole serving which is always a good sign.
S.
The service there is so good and so is the food! Anita makes the best coffees she’s brilliant! Always busy there because they look after you!
J.
First time visitors after reading great things. Very popular and was busy. Relaxed decor with plants which is neat. Lots of seating out the front and inside. Ordered salmon and eggs on gluten free bread and sir had the pastrami and eggs on sourdough. Both delicious, decent portion sizes and presented well. Classics with a modern twist and care. Coffee and grapefruit juice were perfect too. Regulars mentioned the half and half is the best dish but i dont eat mushrooms so wasnt for me. Highly recommended.
J.
The best mushrooms on toast you’ll ever have. Ever. Plus the greatest coffee 👌🏼 love this place so much but be prepared it gets quite popular so not best for big groups.
S.
People swear by Dizengoff - for good reason. The coffee there is always strong and smooth, the sweet treats tantalising, the food menu straight forward, and the food excellent and uncomplicated. Importantly, you will be served quickly and without fuss. Urban and unpretentious.
M.
We had lunch and it was a nice place to chill and have good food. The staff was friendly and attentive. I ordered the Chicken Pasta - it was a generous portion, with bread to top it up. It was flavorful, although I thought it was a bit too salty for my taste.
T.
A very busy modern cafe. The food is standard cafe food, the food is a little rushed (toasted sandwich with unmelted cheese and raw/hard tomato) and simple. There seems something missing in the dishes. The coffee is good. The staff are lovely. Pay as you go for table service is annoying...either that or leave a credit card on you tab? Hmmm.
K.
Amazing quality food and lovely staffs. Love their mushroom on toast and salmon pasta 😋.
J.
As an avid brekkie lover, I knew we had to dine here as it was top rated in many blogs and reviews. Once we got here, it was clear that locals love Dizengoff! The entire cafe had a Melbourne feel to it, and every table was occupied with a range of customers from families to couples. We ordered at the front and had to search for a spot as many tables were still full. Once seated, we didn't receive any tap water as we requested, but it seemed that they were understaffed. The food itself was lovely, but nothing super extraordinary...it seems like we are still not used to the high prices of the kiwi lifestyle! The area is pretty high-income and everyone looks very fashionable, and the staff was nice enough. However, we didn't see what the huge fuss was about. Any other cafe would've been just as great, but yummy food and beautiful surrounds nevertheless.
s.
I went with my husband and toddler. There were no baby chairs available.
We started with drinks. I ordered chai latte, which I didn't like. Than ordered cappuccino, which again I didn't like.
The black coffee my husband had was ok.
The orange juice my toddler had was tasty, but was not freshly squeezed.
For breakfast we had two eggs benedict, one portion with smoked salmon and one portion with spinach. We had extra halloumi and extra pastrami. It was ok. The bun felt like it wasn't very fresh. The eggs were a little bit over cooked. The sauce was nice. The pastrami and halloumi were socking in oil.
In general we had a nice time, but we didn't really enjoyed the foods and drinks.
J.
Perfectly made and delicious coffee. Prompt and friendly service. Lovely outside and relaxed seating in the sun.
T.
Some say it is Auckland's best cafe. It is certainly very hard to get a table there mid morning in the weekend. If you to experience the best, get there early, and at Dizengoff, they generally start before the birds and on all public holidays.
D.
Yep. Awesome.
D.
This cafe used to be very good under the previous owner. Since changing owners they close whenever they feel like it, their hours say closing is 4 but last few times I've got there at 3 or 3.15 and they're closing up or closed. I've given up giving them my custom now and go elsewhere
W.
Go here if you want to feel cool. The Jewish chicken salad is pretty good too
R.
Always rated well in reviews. For me good here is always consistently good and shoo is the coffee without being spectacular. Like many cases it is noisy and often difficult to have a conversation.
B.
Auckland's best known kosher cafe, still good after a these years. If you're not a vegetarian, the chopped liver is superb.
S.
First time back after a year or so, apparently the owner has changed, but the food and coffee are still pretty good! Super busy during the weekend!
K.
Nice spot for brunch. Good service and well-made coffee. As you can probably guess from the name, the cafe is jewish and therefore doesn't serve pork or bacon.
M.
Nice coffee and mushroom
P.
Nice cosy place with a nice menu. Really loved Salmon Eggs. Didn't want the sourdough bread and was nice of them to offer spinach as a side.
c.
The food was average. Coffee was OK. Staff were ok. Counter Ordering. Service was slow for what the quality and range of the food was. Food range is limited and food is overpriced for what it is, wasn't super impressed by the food I've had here.
H.
Great service and the chicken soup was amazing!
I.
The food at Dizengoff is incredible. If you want a proper Big Breakfast with quality ingredients, this is the place. Amazing coffee too!
E.
Nice vibe. Good food and coffee. Freindly staff. Docked a star because they didn't have Hazelnut shots for my coffee.
J.
Half and half is amazing, the mushrooms are lovely and the pesto is wonderfully fresh.
Humans are also friendly and lovely.
D.
Very good espresso, poached eggs on chibatta always my favourite.
A.
Please don't come here! It's already SO popular, with good reason. Well priced, delicious food and coffee, really lovely staff, and always interesting people moving in and out of the place. A gem, and everyone knows it!
B.
Best coffee I've had in a while, what was it? And you do half portions, thank you.
D.
Great food. Been open for decades and good baristas.
E.
Yummy! 😋
M.
Great food, service quick and friendly (without being patronizing). Favourite with the locals, and somewhere at which I'm comfortable ordering and eating alone where I still feel at home.
N.
Really good coffee
U.
A Ponsonby icon cafe. Great food & coffee and always a pleasant buzz. Upstairs & down along with alfresco seating watching the eclectic & beautiful pass by...
D.
They make a damn good coffee, and lovely food to boot
J.
Really good food with a Mediterranean/Jewish leaning. Fast service too. Tables are a bit cramped, but it's worth it.
A.
Sunday brunches here are always a great experience. Eggs benedict and mushrooms on toast are my favourite dishes here.
C.
Ordered a coffee on a busy morning and it was delivered to me table to seconds. Plus, they have an amazing Piccolo
R.

P.

B.
Great food and coffee! Will be back!
j.
Dizengoff what can be said, the service is impeccable, so fast and fantastic . The management and the staff are friendly and efficient. Lastly the food is fabulous but it has lost its luster
V.
A must visit! One of Ponsonby favourites to have breakfast or brunch. It is crowded, go early or be ready to wait, it is worthy
I.
It's ok. Coffee is average. Cake was good. Thee staff was tiered...
R.

O.
Not only is the straightforward salmon eggs good, but the Benedicts are divine with otherworldly hollandaise.
J.
Fast and efficient service coupled with a good breakfast (eggs on toast with sausage) make this place a winner. Always busy.
C.

(Translated) First breakfast in Auckland: D like ... Dizengoff, and Delicious
A pleasure to take the first meal of a day in Auckland inside this sunny place thanks to a large picture window overlooking Ponsonby Rd.
I love the atmosphere and the retro frame very worked: matt and black plastic chairs, benches, Formica green fir tables, menu font with strong characters, frank and minimalist.
Effective order taking and service
Healthy food!

Nourriture healthy !
