Reviews of Friends of the Farmer
N.
My daughter and I came for lunch, it was nice and close and I wanted to browse the fruit trees. Lunch was yummy I enjoyed the nachos and Kitana had the BLT. She enjoyed it. I had a picolo(?) Anyway was yummy. Bought 2 blackcurrant bushes...hopefully we will be enjoying jam this time next year😊
S.
We went here on what must be the most dreaded day of the year for cafes - Mother's Day. I must say I was a little nervous about what the quality and speed of the food would be given how busy it was. But the food came out incredibly quickly and was delicious! The service was friendly and welcoming, even when I was putting in my complicated order for 8 people. I definitely recommend Friends of the Farmer if you're looking for a nice cafe breakfast. Also perfect for families, the kids loved checking out the bird and plants after breakfast.
K.
Awesome food. Great service. Excited to go back
K.
My bacon and egg panini tasted amazing! My partners blt was quite nice as well, although a lot smaller than what they used to be…
M.
Such beautiful, staff and perfectly cooked food. 100/100 thank you ❤❤ Sunday 27th @11.15am :) xx
C.
Lovely setting outside surrounded by plants as it's inside king's plant barn. The coffee and food isn't cheap and the portions are small, so it's an expensive morning out for a family. It's dog friendly, so if you don't like eating with dogs around you, then this isn't the place for you! Oh and a cat that winds in and out of your legs under the tables! I'm terribly allergic so didn't appreciate that!
Ice-coffee costs $7.50 and ham croissant is $11.50!
Not sure I'd go back, but it was busy, so guess some people like it.
G.
Great service & meals at moderate prices👌
N.
There is a child's play area with tables in close range so you can keep an eye on them. Always enjoy our time here and the food
Our favourite local-ish (lol) cafe ❤️
M.
I had a lovely meal at this cafe. They have a fantastic selection of cakes in their display in their menu has a good range of options. The beans and bacon was a little disappointing as it came out cold and the egg was boiled rather than poached but the rest of the meals looked to fantastic!
L.
Great service and perfectly cooked food. My family and I enjoyed our breakfast Saturday 9.40an am
B.
Friends of the Farmer is attached to the Takanini Plant Barn and is a very underrated cafe. We had the tacos, nachos, the big breakfast, and fried potato skins.
All items of food were delicious but the standout for me were the fried potato skins.
Sad that’s is far out of the city but I’d definitely come back here just for the potato skins 😍😋
V.
Though it is located inside plant barn it is a Very pleasant place. Visited the place for a friends wedding reception. Can accomadate for parties or a large group meetings around 70-100 people easily. Interiors are decorated with plants and flowers.
A.
Quiet, ambiance but worth a stop if you're in the area. Plenty of cabinet goodies will have you indecisive over which items to pick. Menu items were of good value also!
F.
Live this hidden gem! Went for a catch up date with a friend loved the food and the location of the place. Service was Good.
g.
Lovely place with friendly staff. Great hot chocolate. They also host the Takanini Farmers Market on the same site every Saturday which has a nice variety of goods from fruits and vegetables, eggs, cake, fudge and a range of handmade crafts like jewellery, sewing, decoupage homeware and natural health products. A few different things each week it seems. Definitely worth a look.
N.
Always love going to this place!!!! Totally recommend. Love the food and location.
D.
Pretty quiet on Saturday afternoon. My mocha coffee was great but the other half was not impressed - her latté was not in a glass.
P.
The breakfast was really good and so was the service.
J.
Nice breakfast and coffee, tea. Good menu at reasonable prices.
S.
Love the vibe, highly recommend their service and the range of food and drinks available.
K.
Was able to reserve a table
Lovely accommodating staff and awesome food and drink
J.
Good service and great food. Eggs benedict was really good.
G.
Big breakfast...was ok, not great, wouldn't have again!
R.
Not much to choose from for keto. Quick service thou with the crowd there
P.
Nice staff and food was good however place is very 'tired' looking
C.
Very clean, good food with a nice atmosphere
A.
Great cafe with great food, service and decor
R.
Had a nice lunch here nice surroundings pleasant service and good food. Have not tried the coffee so cannot comment.
C.
Great food awesome customer service highly recommend
C.
Good service but small meals. ,
A.
For me it is the best place for coffee and lunch. Very good service and friendly people. Lovely food
Good parking and if you like you can take a book out and coffee grinds for your compost bin.
R.
Seems to have down graded itself recently🤔
Although the food and service was Gr8
The selection wasnt as exciting as last time.
Also the atmosphere was flat 🥺
I suggest it needs some nice background misic to help 😊
c.
Food is of a good standard and friendly staff
L.
I loved meeting Billy the cockatoo and the bookshelf in the Cafe. The food was great. I might even come back to buy a plant and have lunch next week.
L.
I grew up in south Auckland and had never heard of this cafe, it was so lovely! Tonnes of tables, good service, varied menu and delicious looking cabinet food. Much nicer than eating somewhere along great south road in Takanini which was our original plan. Bonus, they have the cutest bunnies ever!
A.
Very impressed with my nachos, nice setting with cushions on the chairs. Food was also served pretty fast although it wasn't busy. Was a little pricey but expected as there aren't that many cafe options around this area. Looking forward to trying something else on the menu next time.
C.
Great place meet up with family and friends and child friendly. Food however was disappointing though, my nachos were burnt which I had replaced but then the mince was undercooked and chips seems stale. Other meals at my table were also underwhelming although the eggs Benedict with salmon was good. Coffee was also not that nice, tasted weak and over roasted.
V.
Nice relaxing place for a good coffee:)
A.
Nice garden Cafe at the back of plant barn. Very spacious with loads of seating options including booths and outdoor area. I had a big breakfast which was very nice. Cabinet good looked nice too. Friendly staff. Very pleasant!
R.
Is what you might expect from a plant store cafe. Food and coffee came quickly, looked nice but was a little bland. Place could use a spring clean. Staff where quiet not much warmth and welcome. Kind of place you would take your grandma.

Came back to try Friends of the Farmer again after 2 years so updating my review. The team are friendly and they are all working quickly to get food out and clear tables. Mine food wasn't heated very well. Coffee was good though. They've got some new furniture which makes it look nicer, but still needs a water blast of the pavers as a lot of birds fly in etc. Still 3 stars for me, maybe I'm a bit picky.
B.
Friendly efficient staff, fast service, and coffee & counter food fresh. Toilets spotless. Too many dogs with their owners for my liking.
C.
Amazing food, cute kids area as well as a trampoline and animals to say hello to! Such a family friendly spot! The eggs bene is 🤤🤤🙌
G.
Pleasantly surprised by this place, first visited because I was at Plant Barn but I have since been back specifically for the cafe. Good coffee, and excellent food with a large choice of both menu and cabinet food, something for everyone. The atmosphere is very relaxing, with plenty of tables suited for all weather. Love the bookshelf wall. This has become one of my favourite cafes in South Auckland.
H.
Been coming here for years now .. always good vibes. love watching families enjoying their long lunches .Dog friendly . Friendly staff .. Good food .wish I knew the previous owner was selling .I would have bought this place. just what a cafe should be .
Yes they should think about ventilation gets really uncomfy in hot weather
B.
The atmosphere is lovely and particularly peaceful, being surrounded by veges, flowers, chickens etc.
Food is average, nothing to write home about but perfectly edible. Coffee can sometimes taste burnt.
Still worth visiting to escape from the noise of day to day life.
Dog friendly, big plus for me.
N.
Absolutely beautiful meals. Love to go there with my partner for a lovely breakfast or brunch. Nice portions and overall a beautiful place to dine. Kid friendly also.
A.
Haven't been here for a few years but wow really love the satay kebabs and super good flat white. Definately will be back again. Yummy coffee yummy food. 🙂👌Love the country setting.
A.
This cafe is a fantastic find, been upgraded and atmosphere lovely. Lots of cabinet food and menu food at very reasonable prices. In weekends they have some music playing. Seating is outdoor but covered perfect for all weather!
B.
This place is just amazing. The food is fantastic and the environment is out of this world. Sensational decor and outdoor seating coupled with a farmers market on Saturday morning and the baby animals are so adorable. The baby piglets are so cute at the moment!!
A.
It has been one of our family's favourite brunch places since its opening day! Great ambience, nice decor and just so relaxing! The Saturday farmer's market is a bonus plus kids always enjoy watching the farm animals just located by the cafe.
D.
My coffee mocha was good.
P.
Spacious cafe with lots of tables. Lots to look at as well. Very friendly and food was good. Type of cafe where you order at front counter so you feel rushed to order with so much to choose from if there is a line. So tip is if busy....stand back and choose then jump in to order.
G.
Food was divine. Loved it.
R.
Excellent place, for family with kids or just a couple wanting a nice relaxing, spacious atmosphere. The food and coffee are excellent and service is fast, the pics don't do them justice.
S.
Have to give this 5 Stars. I was absolutely an annoying customer/diner today. Service remained extremely friendly throughout. The food was excellent but it's the atmosphere of this Cafe which really makes it worth a visit.
p.
A nice friendly place to have breakfast or lunch in a nice country environment . All the staff seem to do their best and a chef is on site . The food actually is wonderful and unexpected . I have been back 3 times and I live in downtown Auckland . Love the large fields of flowers and plants surrounding the cafe restaurant .There were three birthday parties their last time I was there .
C.
Stopped by for coffee and a scone Saturday afternoon. Still a few customers enjoying the environs at 3 p.m. Good, prompt and cheerful service.
S.
Serenity, warmth and delicious food. That was my experience at Friend of the Farmer. The chicken salad a delightful mix of sweet, tangy fresh and salty flavors. Succulent smoked kaiwai hash cakes beautifully balanced by wilted spinach. The staff were most obliging and made the creamed mushrooms with chicken rather than chorizo for my mum who doesn't eat pork. This cafe is definitely worth a weekly visit. It's like a home away from home...only better!
P.
Nice food but a lot of birds flying around. Nervously eating while waiting to be dropped on.
D.
Good vibes, decent coffee. Primarily loved it due to its green, peaceful setting. Billy the Cockatoo is quite nice too.
B.
Recommend the salmon eggs benedict and corn fritters meal.
m.
Food was fantastic! This place has great atmosphere. Good visit on a sunny or a rainy day. Highly recommended!
P.
Not as good as it used to be in quality of food, visited on a friday. The staff are friendly.

K.
Great place for breakfast and lunch with friends family or loved ones service is really fast I've only ever waited max 15 minutes for all food drink after ordering even when it's really busy I would definitely recommend booking on public holidays or special events as this place is quite popular the food is just amazing never had any troubles just great service.
P.
Great food and been able to take dogs 🐕 there is the best.
E.
Lovely meals, including all day breakfast. Excellent menu selection and friendly service. In or outdoor seating.
E.

Friends of the Farmer is such a hidden Gem! Gotta be one of the best & cutest cafes in South Auckland. Located at the back of King's Plant Barn Takanini, its surrounded by foliage and greenery! Gorgis facility with 5 star service. Food is yummm both on the menu and at the counter! Beverages Ace too! Now become my fav cafe!
K.
Cold, cold, cold...but the food and coffee was still good. Get some effective heating for those cold mornings.
J.
Meals okay, average price range but good servings.

D.
A great place to visit with friends, family, children or work colleagues. It has a nice outdoor area covered from rain and sheltered from the wind. Has an area for children to play.
A.

K.
Great place to catch up with friends while grabbing some plants for home as it's Kings Plant Barn. Good selection of lunch food, big breakfasts and coffee.
E.
It was very nice. The music a bit too loud. Service was great and so was the food and coffee.
s.
Good food. But they really really need to sort their coffee out. Its just bad. Not sure if it's just the beans or the machine need to be cleaned.
J.
Such a lovely place to grab brunch/lunch after shopping for some plants at Kings. Great value for money.
R.
Had pumpkin soup again, requested it to be hot, which it was. Still yummy. Highly recommend soup and venue.

Great place for relaxing with your family and friends. Price is reasonable, too, around 10 NZD for a meal and 5 NZD for a coffee.

G.
Good food!! Pet friendly!! Perfect place to get breakfast.
T.
One of my fave cafes in the area, staff are friendly and food is good.
J.
I found that this place doesn't practically cater for large groups. They need to look into ways to expedite large groups with a buffet meal.
A.
Nacho's were delicious. Could have had a bit more mince though. Friendly service.
K.
Place is excellent and the food is delicious, also a very good kids area
N.
