Reviews of Kampung Style Malaysian Cafe
G.
Nice Malaysian Restaurant located at the Glen Eden train station 🚉
Good foods quality and very friendly services. Will come again to try more different foods.
K.
Ordered through Menulog:
Pandan wrapped chicken: the middle of the chicken was flavorful but the ends were super dry almost burnt
Wontons: super saucy but the mixture had a weird taste
Nasi Lemak: the most delish chicken curry love the sambal wish we had a bit more and the rice was the perfect consistency.
Will be back for some chicken curry
W.
Not bad the food, but sadly the Ice Kacang ABC is not sweet enough, tasted blend. But I will still recommend it to my relatives and friends. I will be back again.
E.
Great taste for curry mee and prawn mee, satay chicken was juicy & tender, CKT has got the wok-hei and roti is fluffy. Their beef rendang and sambal is a little sweet (not catering for msians). There's some value for $ dishes.
R.
Great food and very reasonably priced. And they are so fast at preparing and serving the food! It is often cold and windy though and they don't close the double entrance doors.
A.
Most certainly worth supporting small businesses especially this one (love the little note)... been meaning to go for a while. I'm glad we finally made it... We ate there and even ordered some takeaways. Love the location, what better than to jump off the train and go straight to Kampung Style, for a delicious homely meal. Friendly, nice, and clean. Good food and ready within minutes. Definitely recommend this place.
A.
Yummy malaysian food. In the photo is Wanton noodle.
N.
The ambiance needs work, a lot more could be done to pretty up the place and enhance the atmosphere. The food is good and the staff are nice, price is good too. Its easily one of the better restaurants in West Auckland
J.
It’s pretty nice but not my favourite Malaysian in Auckland. I mostly eat here because it’s convenient for where I live - definitely worth coming back for.
M.
Yummy Malaysian food at reasonable pricing. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is craving for nice Malaysian food. Their Foochow Mee and Kampua has the Malaysian taste to it. Also recommend their Char Kueh Tiaw too :D
A.
This place is amazing. This was an old train station turned in to a restaurant. So don't expect much space inside. But its super comfy inside. Better to call and reserve a table before visiting. Food was top notch and way better than most famous Malaysian restaurants in the city. Service was great and staff was friendly. Laksha soup was somthing to die for and Lemak was awesome. Great place. I give five stars for satisfaction
F.
Beautiful food there and the pineapple drinks are so refreshing. 😋😊
E.
It is located at Glen Eden train station so it is easy to find. Staff are very friendly and it is one of the best Malaysian crusine restaurants in Auckland.
The dishes are mostly West Malaysia flavour. Very yummy and priced reasonably.
Highly recommended.
P.
Excellent Malaysian foods in the town . The staff services is great . Recommend to try the chicken satay and the prawn soup noodle . If you want to try the real Malaysian dishes , this is my 1st choice in Auckland . Since its location is just next to the train station , most of the car park slots are just for 15 mins stop. Thanks for the staff warmly reminder that the car park opposite the restaurant is for 90 mins parking .
張.
Wondeful and authentiA malaysian cuisine! The fish head rice vermicelli soup is definitely tasty with tomato and sourish vegetables. I like the crunchy fried fish head the most in there. The beef fried rice noodle with wok hei is so delicious.
The smooth Teh Tarik is highly recommended.
C.
One of my favorite place to fix my cravings for Malaysian food. Highly recommended and they have Sarawak Tomato kueh tiaw and Sarawak Kampua noodle!
D.
Love the cosy, rustic feel to the wooden style building and feeling the occasional passing by of trains. Food is great. Cho Kuey Tiao has great authentic taste. Their roti with curry chicken is a must try, bear in mind the curry can be quite spicy.
J.
We ordered Char kueh teow and tasted authentic Malaysian. Well done! Good size portion too. The other dish was tomato mee another local sarawak dish. Can you please open another branch in manukau?
O.
Don't underestimate this small eatery based of the old glen eden train station building. One of the tastiest cheap eats around West Auckland. My go to is always the Nasi Lemak Beef Rendang if it's the first time I'm at new Malaysian restaurant and it was good! Portion was more than expected and the sambal was excellent!! The service was great and was always looked after. Don't sleep on this west Aucklanders! Terima kasih to the team here at Kampung Style.
H.
Delicious malaysian food. Food is quite authentic. The char kwee tiao was great, the roti with curry was delicious. The iced campur ABC was disappointing though. Service was also pretty slow even though there were not many people there.
J.
Sarawak mee is yum, and their special chilli is good too.
C.
They have really good chicken curry roti and authentic style malaysian food, it's a quaint little eatery so it's humble and suited for casual local meal. The staff and service is also pretty good.
A.
I had these guys cater for my event and wow did they deliver. Fantastic yummy food and its great value too.
B.
Cool concept being situated on the station platform, however several options including all laksa dishes were unavailable (despite us arriving at usual dinner time), this was disappointing. Even the rice noodles were out of stock (which limits the options for gluten-free diners). They did not have hot tea, typically available at every Malaysian restaurant I've been to. Instead they served cold water, despite the place being cold - as the doors were wide open, though after mentioning our discomfort they brought out a gas heater shortly after. I doubt that will suffice a month from now. Not the quietest dining, as the doors are wide open to Glen Eden shops, and the train is very noticeable when it passes, though not bad enough to deter us from returning. The Kampung Style Claypot Lamb Curry dish I ordered was tasty (and included sufficient meat), as were the Pandan Leaves Chicken. The staff were friendly, meals arrived without delay, and the pricing was reasonable. I dined here due to the ratings (everywhere) being so good and I agree - it has the potential to be a great Malaysian restaurant.
S.
Taste is good, service is great. But the portion is a bit small for the full price charge. Rice and noodle given is not enough to fill a hungry person.
D.
Good service, some dishes very good, some not up to the usual standard according to my friend. She loves the hokkien mee, made just like she had growing up in KL.
D.
Food was delicious. But was let down by the service. Had to wait for a long time for the food to arrive and our order got missed. The waitress seemed quite new on the job.
M.
Love this place as an unhealthy vegetarian I am 🤣 deep fried tofu is bloody great here add rice . Thank me later.
E.
It's really nice Malaysian takeaway by the train station. The food is really good.
E.
Delicious and authentic Malaysian food here.
A.
Authentic south east Asian, Malaysian cuisine.. Generous portions..
A.
I visited this place one night and I was very surprised i wanted something vegetarian tofu to be more precise and it was good crispy and golden brown served with a little cucumber and sweet chilli if they do that with tofu what else can they cook bloody delicious
E.
Serving sizes look to have reduced...
A.
Great lil malaysian cafe, beautiful flavours. Must try the wonton dry soup, satay, sweet n sour and rendang n roti!!
p.
If anyone of you likes to try The Malaysian authentic cuisine, I strongly recommend this restaurant. The Kampung Styles Malaysian cafe.
No: 145, West Coast Road, Glen Eden, Auckland 0602. You must not forget to order the
” SAMBAL ” because this SAMBAL stands by the mean it so different from other parts of the country.
R.
Good food.
No - seriously good food.
Staff are simply wonderful, the place is clean and tidy, service is fantastic.
Absolutely everything you need in a small restaurant.
Highly recommended by moi
W.
Great service. My laksa was abit hot after asking for mild. However the lovely young lady who served us made sure to help make it mild for me. And it was absolutely yummy. Thank you
s.
We have been there many times. Food quality is always great. Highly recommend them.
F.
Food are yummy! I always go for their Meegoreng kampung style, quite different from the other Malaysian resto/cafe we have eaten. Place is quite small. So we always go before lunch or after lunch to make sure we can get a table. Serving is quite small but the taste is top notch.
C.
Let's begin with the negative which isn't really a negative. Zomato and the pictures give an impression (to me at least) of a somewhat formal restaurant with a clean and peaceful ambience ideal for a date. This is NOT the case. This is place is a more of a takeaway place attached to the train station with extra seating attached to it. I didn't expect the latter so I was unpleasantly surprised. Now the positives. The food is simply fantastic. We had the satay chicken, chicken noodles and the clay pot lamb curry. It was absolutely DELICIOUS. All of it. The quantity was also great, lunch was sorted for the next day. The food alone gets 6/5 but the ambience and the overwhelmed serving staff bring it down to a 3/5. The fact that it's next to a train station really doesn't help.
M.
Being in the old rail station building, the space is very cosy, indoor and outdoor both comfortable in any weather. The service is always extremely polite and the food prepared fast. This is now a regular takeout option for us, and if the favourites ever get boring, there is a ranged menu to choose from. Can't be recommended highly enough.
R.
Good Malaysian food, Sarawak taste
R.
Oh my goodness - I'm a local and have passed this place so many times without thought. One because it's slotted slap bang in the middle of a busy intersection which is the main through fare for morning commuters - it's the old Glen Eden station house...I arrived with minimal expectations and got a steaming well.portion plate of Char Kay Teow OMG delicious and affordable. Highly recommend was yummy and we'll worth the $14.00 it cost me...will be going again 5 stars.
C.
I am totally in love with this cafe. Loving their Hokkien Mee, which I always ask for extra squid. I love the char kway tee as well. The food options are great. However, one time I decided to dine in as I really wanted to try some of the desserts. On that ocassion they didn't have their full dessert menu running due to lack of supplies... so that was rather disheartening. GREAT food though
V.
Been a little while since we last went here, should have been sooner. Very good Malaysian food. In old railway station building and heater was very welcome, dress warmly in winter
r.
This place is great !! I have been to many many Malaysian places all over New Zealand, and this has got to be one of the top. Very authentic food, the owners are from Sarawak, and they cook it the same way they did back in Malaysia. Get in early though, there laksa is just about always sold out, I also personally recommend the Nasi Lemak with beef Rendang.
J.
Food is East Malaysian and some dishes are better than others, as in most restaurants. Try the Char Kway Teow and Foochow fish head noodle soup which are my favourites. Had Chicken Satay twice, once excellent, the next disappointing, inconsistent.
Charming place to have a meal of you are in that neck of the woods.
L.
Yummy, it's authentic Malaysian's foods, like it!
L.
Owners are from Sarawak so you can get authentic Malaysian fare here. They are friendly and accommodating - when we took my young toddler there they gave him a small bowl of rice and some chicken (foc!). Great ambience too - has the feel of an actual kampong house :)
J.
Delicious, affordable Malay dishes served up by friendly staff in a cute and low key environment that appears to have previously been the local train station.
If we lived here, we would definitely be regulars :)
M.
Great food and an interesting location 👍
O.
Best Curry Laksa in town! Big portion, a lot of filling, hot 🤤
T.
Excellent range of dishes from both West and East Malaysia. Portions are standard but the tastes are usually very authentic. Seating is quite limited but the location is interesting with the train passing behind. Try the wat tan hor and lum mee.
K.
Arrived at 11am on a rainy Saturday morning. Had curry chicken nasi lemak, mee goreng and wonton soup. The food certainly tastes authentic. Will be back to try out the bak kut teh another day.
J.
Not bad for a authentic local Malaysian place for a good feed! Have to say their chicken satay stood out for us! Chunky chicken pieces (how it should be) with great flavour!
S.
Absolutely Amazing Food
Authentic, fresh and flavoursome food. Stopped here in the hope of take away and was happy to be told "YES". The appetizers curry puffs and pandan chicken were works of art. Mains of Beef Rendang, curry Laksa chicken and Charkway Teow were delicious. Bits of star anise and other whole herbs and the flavour combinations made this a memorable meal. This will be my new take out - though you can dine in if you like.
P.
Very good food, I've been to a number of Malaysian restaurants and this one is right up there, however given the price it's great value for money as well.
J.
Always a great place to eat or get takeaways.
Y.
I have eaten there often and also had takeaways. Great service and authentic Malaysian food. Try their Char Kway Teow or their Tofu salad.... yummm!!!
R.
Excellent service, very quick and friendly and the food was delicious! Would definitely recommend it! (Although very small, so they may need to move to a bigger establishment soon as they are going to get very popular very quickly!) 😁
C.
Our local Malaysian restaurant. Great food. Worthwhile checking out.
A.
Not too bad. We had dry noodles with hainanese chicken and a wat tan hor (gravy was a little thick).
B.
Kampung Style is located in the old train station at Glen Eden so is very conveniently located for train and road users. It serves Malaysian food and also an interesting range of cold shakes and drinks. Lunch fare averages $12.50.
F.
Love the pandan leaf chicken and Hainanese chicken. Absolutely our fav place in the west for Malaysian food!
c.
Great food and reasonable price
J.
Great food at a good price. Location is excellent too - there's been several occasions where I've stopped by after getting off the train just to get a quick bite.
P.
After hearing good reviews about this place we decided to drive all the way here to try it out. Not sure why but the food that was served to us that day was meh....
