Reviews of Little & Friday

What happened to Little & Friday?! It was once an institution, one of the best cafes in Auckland and now, not so much.
The Quiche Lorraine used to be one of my favourites, and while I haven’t been for a while I know this recipe has completely changed. It was undercooked and didn’t taste anywhere near as good as it used to. I know the original Little & Friday cookbook has the recipe, maybe look it up and see what you guys are doing wrong suddenly.
The donut was similar to before except the cream to dough ratio was off, way more cream than it used to have - but I didn’t mind too much as it wasn’t as heavy.
The breakfast wrap was ok - seemed a bit basic for a Little & Friday staple but wasn’t bad.

The staff are friendly and the music is not intrusive. I enjoy the coffee which is consistently good. There is a lot of choice in the cabinet and today I had a pear coconut friend which was excellent. Cost $$
M.
Had a delicious ratatouille, my friend had a mushroom pie, good portions. The pastries look really tasty and yummy. The place is clean, lots of natural light. A bit noisy for me.
L.
My favourite café in Newmarket! I've tried almost every dish and it's been great each time. Highly recommend the little cakes and slices (beetroot chocolate is my favourite). Tried the pie today and the sauce is completely different from a traditional mince and cheese. Have a go if you're around the area
Y.
An excellent cafe with incredible cabinet pastries. The coffee is so-so. The beans are alright (eighthirty), but because it’s so busy, the barista can’t steam the milk very well.
R.
A friend and I had lunch here after shopping in Newmarket - we were pretty ravenous. We ordered Earl Grey tea, fruit soda, Parmesan and fennel pasta, a savoury scone and a coconut and lemon cake. The cake was very tasty and had a great combination of flavours. The dinosaur toy is their version of an order number!
D.
Upscale bakery with light filled high stud airy interior. Forget numbers at your table. Dinosaurs mark the spot. Order at the counter and be prepared for a bit of a wait (at least that was our experience). Excellent tea coffee and patisserie. Funky little spot.
A.
Love love this bakery, everything is fresh, seasonal and yummy. Have been here several times. Cabinet food to die for, pretty much everything between $7-12. The deserts here are a must try. Service is great, always place to sit and lovely girls serving.
K.
Neat little cafe in Newmarket. Haven’t been back for awhile but it didn’t disappoint. Coffee was good. Pastries were delicious.
L.
love the donuts and small cakes! great little pick me up

A legendary suburban brunch spot, we ate at Little & Friday early one sunny Sunday morning. The ambience here is clean and modern, high ceilings and large glass windows making the whole space feeling light and airy without feeling cold, as well as the natural wood and stone touches.
The brunch menu is rather limited, and in the end we went for a selection of three crumpets to share among the two of us, with honeycomb, bacon jam, and good ol’ regular jam. They were delicious and each topping on the side was served generous so you’d tend to run out of crumpet before you ran out of spread.
For our drinks the coffee wasn’t bad, but the tea service was exemplary coming loose-leaf in an attractive glass pot and earthenware. It was so pretty that I remarked to my friend when he noticed his cup was chipped it gave the mug a “wabi-sabi” character!
The selection of pastries and cakes in the glass cabinet were too tempting to pass up, so we took home a doughnut and a Baci which lived up to their promise of sugary deliciousness. The Dinosaur figurines for table-markers were also a fun touch to the place.
Little and Friday would be too sweet a prospect for me to enjoy regularly, but definitely a sweet stop in Newmarket for when the urge to indulge calls.
T.
I stopped in at Little & Friday for a coffee and was mesmerised by the food cabinets and the seductive sweet treats begging be ordered. Not only that, the jar laden shelves with freshly baked cookies and bites. I ended up enjoying a volcano lamington with my soy latte and a take home jar of chocolate peanut monkeys. Absolutely AMAZING!

Neat little cafe in Newmarket. Haven’t been back for awhile but it didn’t disappoint. Coffee was good. Pastries were delicious.
P.
Outstanding cafe. Without doubt the best in Auckland! Delicious range of sandwiches, salads, hot drinks and cakes. All freshly made. The sausage rolls are the best I’ve ever tasted. I’ve always found the staff super helpful and friendly. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
W.
Interesting items for waiting sign of your food, food is all good but the mocha surprised me indeed.
Quite noisy environment so maybe not really suitable for little babies.
K.
Might have great coffee and treats but service was terrible. Lots of rolling of eyes when asking where napkins were to wipe table, glasses for water. Had to remind them on my order also. Maybe the staff was busy when I went. Shame cause the coffee and apricot brioche I had was great.
E.
Very nice ambience. The way it works is you order premade food (gorgeous food) then they heat it up. They also have a great selection of unique dessert food as well. Only reason I give it 4/5 is because it is slightly over priced I would say.
K.
I follow on Instagram but have never visited until today. So much choice. Everything is delicious and the coffee is great too. Make sure you go hungry and take something home for later too
N.
Food and vibe is nice. Chill vibes. Sweet rich food. Dont have a menu, all cabinet food which means food comes quick! Worth checking out
P.
sooooo yummy best almond crossiant in auckland!! thank you so much such a good vibe!!!!!
R.
Great coffee yum yum food ♡ nice interior good open space
L.
love the donuts and small cakes! great little pick me up
B.
Great food. Had a mince and cheese pie and my wife had the Quiche Lorraine. Although in total we bought 6 items for takeaway (3 savoury & 3 sweet) and were charged $63 which I thought was steep at more than $10 each on average. Couldn't fault the food so will go back when I've saved up again.
K.
Returned here after a couple of years away overseas and was impressed by the new location in Newmarket. A lot more room and tables for dining. We were surprised by how quiet it was on a Saturday morning (parking still difficult to find around here). The coffee was great (albeit a bit small for a regular size) and the raspberry/cream donuts are still as good as ever. The banana and chocolate brioche was delicious and warmed just enough. Prices are definitely on the higher end so would only come here for a treat. Would have liked to see some vegan options available after so many years, but understand that the success of this place is due to its classic baked goods.
V.
Very wonderful place for a relax weekend breakfast! We went to the Ponsonby restaurant, the environment is cosy and bright. And the staffs are super hospitable and friendly. It’s hard to make decisions for the food because of so many choices. I would like to try another one next time. : )
S.
I went today and had the best Nectarine Tart with Mascarpone I have ever tasted! It was exceptional. Great coffee. Fab ambience and service.
This is a great find!!!!!
All portions were extra large. Everything tasted great!
S.
Poor service and under staffed. Good place for sweets but average for savoury food. Food was half toasted the last time I went, warm on the outside and cold on the inner parts. It definitely has the potential to be a great cafe if it stepped up with its service and add some more options to the savoury menu.
K.
Great food but selection was poor compared to the past. This used to be one of my favourite cafes but I can't say it holds that stance any longer. Where have the overflowing displays of sweet treats gone?! Eating experience was brought down by the untidiness of the shop. Would have be nice if the toilet had been tended to.
E.
Scrumptious Cakes! I had the Pear almond tart, never had such a nice tart in my life. It wasn't too sweet but just sweet enough. If you come in a big group of people, make sure you try out several so you can try a bite of each!
I have been here several times and their savory items are also pretty good and nicely presented. It is self service and the tables are often full but they do have really awesome jars of infused water - mint and cinnamon!
J.
Mostly cabinet food that's done really well. A lot more seating available now than their previous location around the corner. Coffee is really good too though a little strong for my tastes. Highly recommended if you're looking for a nibble and not too hungry!
Y.
Great cafe. Nice coffee and bakings. But there seem to be a confusion amongst stuff about their food.
The other day I took away a croissant that stuff told me it was raspberry almond croissant. But there was no raspberry in it.
And today I bought a brioche that supposed be a chocolate and banana, but that was actually a blueberry and banana.
I know their food is very good, so kind of disappointed that I didn't get things that I ecpected.
M.
Pretty good food but a bit overpriced. Being located in Newmarket I understand. Still, if you are around and want an amazing donut, go there, the cinnamon one is to die for and the cream one is not too sweet, which makes it very easy to eat (too easy... 😋)
A.
Easy parking, children high chairs, toys.
Nice cafe to have meetings or catch up with people. Nice coffee too. Overall a great experience.
M.
Ordered a flat white an cinnamon and walnut roll. WOW beautiful sooo good moist, flavourfull. Be warned you probably need a whole day to finish one and I had the cheek to get a 2nd one.
J.
Had the cream donut and it is totally awesome.. really like it.. probably the best donut I have had.. and the staff is very friendly.. appreciate the service and food.. will definitely be back again!
N.
Usually, people come for the amazing sweets, the mouth watering deserts, and believe me they are. but let me tell you - the savoury dishes are something you don't want to miss. Since it can be too much, just ask for half a desert after your meal, and take the other half home... to prolong the experience... that's what I always do. definitely one of the best places in Auckland for lunch! and it is also beautify designed.
A.
Very bright and clean place with delicious food and bakery, warm services and a lot of locals coming here. 5 out of 5 very recommended.
J.
Come back from overseas after 4 years to find they moved to new and bigger (and better) premises just around the corner. Menu is still pretty much the same and still delicious. The deservedly famous doughnuts are to die for. The coffee is always good. Make sure you get the Niuean girl (apologies but I can't recall her name) to make it as she always smiles and she has a great attitude. The prices are a little bit high but the quality and taste make up for that. One negative comment I have is thst service is slow. They have 2 tills but never seem to use both even if there is a line of people. But other then that Little & Friday is perfect and a great place to bring family and friends for a relaxing lunch.
P.
Excellent range of sweets and savories and the coffee is always good. Can get busy and parking can be a pain but definitely worth it. Not great if you want somewhere quite as everybody sits at two large communal tables. You have to try the donuts at least once.
B.
A very busy little joint with fresh bakery and desserts. People come here for a small bite and coffee during the day. I find them overpriced and seeing I'm not a great fan of sweets, I can't really justify the cost and the hype. Most people love it, so maybe it's just me.
A.
Amazing service everytime I come in, great atmosphere and a beautiful café, big praises to the two girls who I always see run off their feet over the lunch rush to give the best service
E.
Their sweets and desserts are to die for, cant get enough of their coconut macaroons. Their scones are also to die for. I dream about this place in my sleep🤤🤤
S.
I have never tasted a better raspberry and cream doughnut in my life. And I doubt I ever will!
Everything baked here is top notch. Also, the caramelised onion and feta quiche is to die for. The wraps are delicious, and the cookies in the pretty jars aren't just pretty, they are perfect. It's often packed here, and with good reason. And say goodbye to the horrendous microwaves that don't ever do a correct job, they heat your food in actual ovens here!
S.
Had the rosti with bacon and poached eggs, and the beetroot tart. Sensational, pricey, but you get what you pay for. Good coffee too. Will definitely be back to try a donut soon.
S.
Delicious cream donuts and a fab delivery service within Ponsonby. Never actually dined in but I used to get these donuts delivered to my workplace on College Hill quite often and they were always fresh, delicious and fast!
R.
Great food, good coffee, excellent staff and the place was buzzing. Loved it.
A.
Great food and coffee, I have been many times. I had an issue with my food and emailed their head office but no reply - the service staff are lovely though so won't stop going here
H.
The food was delicious but my order was forgotten so it was 45mins from the time I ordered to the time I got my food. Hopefully this doesn't happen often though.
Also none of the food is labeled so how are you suppose to know what any of it is? Especially for dietary requirements.
D.
Apart from the parking nightmare around this area, Little and Friday offers delicious treats and sandwiches with nice ambience. They don't offer any cooked breakfast or lunch but they do have good cabinet food along with coffee.
L.
An awesome range of cabinet food & great coffee! We had the quiche lorraine & powdered donuts and they were delicious. This is a great spot on the outskirts of Newmarket!
L.
Always had their cakes and loved it! This time I tried their savory menu, and loved those too! Great place to eat and hang out with friends& family.
B.
The food here is just amazing. It not only tastes incredible, but it's looks like a piece of art. They have moved round the corner to a bigger newer building and it still gets busy. This is an iconic place. Just Yum!
K.
If you are attempting to stay trim...do not read this! If you continue, it is at your own risk. The raspberry cream donut at Little and Friday is so good it should possibly be illegal. Just try one. Nothing else needs to be said on the matter. Venue is somewhat unusual. They could really do with some more seating. However, all that is irrelevant once you sink your teeth into the cream donut. Go there now!
F.
Food was just ok - looks much better than actually tastes. Pricey for what you get - sort of place for the cupcake and smashed avocado for the price of elaborate cooking crowd.
L.
The savoury options here are good - I enjoy the quiches and tarts. The cakes and doughnuts are very, very sweet and made in large portions - definitely better to be shared.
M.
Walked in to buy last minute Xmas gifts (jars of cookies). They were run off their feet but took my details and I got 6 jars the next day. Thank you!! Amazing service.
G.
Without a doubt the best cabinet food in town. Have loved little & Friday since 1st opened on the shore, always the best food I've eaten since last time I was at L&F. Stope reading and go right now,
You won't regret it.
R.
Where evil food inspires
G.
My 1st visit to this establishment, often driven past and seen it busy and now I know why, the service was very friendly and helpful, the food was superb (all cooked on the premises) and the coffee was so good I had a 2nd cup.

Delicious food and a nice breakfast menu.
Staff are friendly and helpful. However, prices are little bit higher than I expected.
Good experience.
K.
Amazing cakes and sweet treats as well as savoury items. The donuts are seriously good. It can get very busy, but it's worth waiting.
K.
If you have tastebuds and enjoy baked goods which transcend both time and space, this is the place for you. The veggie tart is a favorite, as is the unstoppable raspberry & cream doughnut.
Y.
Inviting low key ambiance, food is delicious to look at and to eat. Ethical business uses local suppliers and organic produce. Delightful.
t.
Had only their iced americano. I liked the atmosphere and friendly staffs. I'd love to try their food next time, all their food looked so good!
H.
Always amazing looking food! Coffee is on the small side but still good! You can rely on this place.
S.
The best cafe in Auckland. Great pastries and coffee.
A.
I love the sweet food from L&F. There is a little bit of it looking better than it tastes and counter food is better fresh and warm. Be ready for a wait at lunch time.
C.
Nice clean place with great coffee and cabinet food.
A.
Probably the best donuts in Auckland, nice cakes and savories too. Not cheap.
L.
Food is to die for service good . A very busy place.
K.
Food was great but limited selection on a Monday. Staff indifferent. Ambience shabby and toilets disgusting which was very off putting.
N.
The savoury food was okay the first time I went in, later I went back for something sweet and that was much better. The staff were really nice as well.
T.
Very cool shop, very average coffee. Need to offer better quality non-dairy milks to go with the high quality food!
H.
Expensive and busy but great food. Parking can be a little hard.
G.
