Steak night at the Apothecary, food was good and the atmosphere lively. We had a relaxed enjoyable evening, loved the cocktails. Only downside was we where seated on bar chairs at a bar hight table which was not very comfortable.

Great coffee and pastry. Their almond croissant was delicious. Unfortunately, the way they reheated the croissant was bad. I think they reheated it in microwave, so the crispiness and flakiness was lost and became ruined and soggy. It is also very noisy inside, so recommended to sit outside if you want a quiet place.

Atmosphere was not bad but food was just OK. The hash brown was very cakey for some reason, same for the bread with my avo on toast. Update: new chef on board and the food is very good now especially the new chicken waffle.

Lovely cafe, lots of space inside and out, with an eclectic interior. The waitress was very friendly and checked in with me during eating, and chatted too. I had the waffles, super sugary and crunchy so couldn't taste the waffles- maybe just add a little less next time, more fruit and mascarpone.

Seated outside got given a menu and told they would be back to takr our orders was forgotten about, so had to go get a waiter 15mins later, didnt hand out drinks menu, so had to go ask for that, had to go get salt and pepper off a table inside. But food was awesome. Brisket eggs benedict was the best.

It looks like a normal restaurant from the outside but the inside is a whole different story. The first thing I notice after entering was the giant moose head on the wall. After sitting down you notice that little cupboard all contain interesting items reminiscent of an old-style pharmacy. The menu is a bit different from standard cafes, with a slight Asian twist to some items. They also have the super shakes available as well, the menu on a blackboard on the wall. The food is alright. Portions are decent. I didn't particularly like the flavour of the pork belly as it was too bitter. The school prawns were good. The chocolate super shake was also really good, although they added so much candy toppings that it lasted a few days after. It did get hard to get the attention of the servers though after ordering.

The cafe has let their standards slip and they are no longer a five star rating. The food is still nice but nothing special. You can’t order from the breakfast menu after 12, and the lunch menu is lacklustre. My wife and I used to love this cafe and will likely still return to see if this was a once off disappointment.

Outstanding location for lunch, brunch, or a drink, and almost as good for dinner! As good a breakfast and brunch location as you'll find - busy, friendly, a good turnover rate on the tables, a fantastic range of well prepared and interesting food, and bottomless coffee. A rarity in NZ, a good bottomless filter coffee cup is always worth the find! While breakfast and lunch are 5 star, dinners are 4. Ambitious and good, but not *quite* reaching the heights that they're aiming for - really good choices and exciting dishes are let down by very small execution errors, like a lack of acidity. It's a minor quibble for the one of the best dinners you'll find in Howick - most of my party gave 5 stars! The fitout and decor is fantastic, the character is great, the lunch and breakfast service is fast and efficient, and evening service a bit more relaxed but still pleasant. Go for the comedy nights and open mic nights for a fun night out!

Always amazing coffee and food, lots of tables here but it does get busy on the weekend so a great idea to make a booking if you’re planning on brunching here on Saturday or Sunday. There’s a great cabinet selection here or you can order from the extensive menu. There’s a back entrance if you park in the carpark to the rear of the cafe. The bathrooms are spacious and always nice and clean. Flawless! ☺️

I had one of the best pies I've had in Auckland. The kitchen staff are excellent. Sadly the counter staff, one of the worst I've seen in Auckland as they seem more interested in checking their cell phones than engaging with customers or focusing on their job. If not for the incredible pies, this would be a one-star review.

Met friends for lunch here. Quirky place decorated with stuffed animal heads - there's an enormous moose head with large antlers, and historical looking trinkets relevant to the name. I had karaage chicken and a green smoothie, which I would recommend. They made a salad especially for my friend due to dietary restrictions, which she appreciated. Check it out, I'll be going back.

Cool, funky place with a good vibe and friendly staff. Coffee was okay, a bit hot and bitter but I've been living in Melbourne where you can afford to be fussy - price and size options were great. Food was okay but expensive for what it was especially the bites basket, I wouldn't recommend that to anyone.

These guys clearly care about the food they put out. All out meals looked amazing, tasted fantastic and were priced reasonably. The coffee was well made and the staff friendly. When busy you can expect a wait on your food, but its worth it.

Delicious food and good coffee, highly recommend the pork belly bites, chicken wings and beer battered fries. They have also added a window to get coffees and cabinet food takeaway which seems to have eased congestion within the cafe and upped convenience for people ordering to go. Really good experience :)

My partners wine was delivered in a very dirty glass. My drink tasted like old cooking fat... not sure why? Anyway, they were gracious enough to replace the drinks with what we chose were safe options - 2 bottles of beer and they did not charge is for any of these - which was super generous! The mains tasted great! Served in good time. Creme brulee desert had 'vanilla bean' ice-cream (that wasn't) and was cold with a bitter, burnt topping. Disappointing :( Waitress provided just the basics, no genuine interaction or interest, but polite and nice. Surroundings were visually stimulating but seating was not for comfort. Tough to do cafe and restaurant service combined so a bit ambitious, but overall a pretty good attempt.

The food was awesome coffee was ok and they ran out of almond milk so my girlfriend missed out disappointing and mine was only warm not as hot I would but that's a personal choice. However one off the staff member needs to know how to clear a table and not ignore customers as we were. But we will always come back because the food and environment is great.

We've been for both breakfast and dinner, breakfast is what it is, the food is nice but it's often very busy. Dinner was much more of a hit and miss affair, the first time we went the food was lovely and the service fantastic. The second time, the food was still nice, but the service was terrible, empty plates sat on our table for 20 minutes, we were given the wrong menus etc, all this while the place was basically empty, nobody seemed to give a toss. I've also been to the bar a few times, at it's always been good. So mostly good, however dinner is hit and miss depending on the staff you get.

One of the good place for a fine brunch. The staff are nice people and quite lively. Lots of menus to choose from, and decent coffee. I recommend you to choose yak milked flat white, it has the most deep pleasure you could imagine from a latte.

Very good food and very friendly customer service, but I just can't get over the price they charge for coffee here! $5! You don't even pay that for a flat white in the heart of snobby-Ponsonby. $4 is a standard price for a flat white in Auckland, and while the coffee at Apothecary is good, it's not better than other places in Auckland with great coffee who all charge $4. Worse yet, I even got charged $5 for a piccolo! In my opinion the best coffee in the city is at Eight Thirty. Their price for a piccolo? $3.70! $5 really is on the nose.

Nicely set up as an Apothecary. Nice to have sparkling water on tap. I really like a long milky coffee in a bowl or a mug, and yes I am not a coffee connoisseur , but they don't cater for this preference at all, the coffee is only available in small cups. It would be wonderful if they just had a few bowls for us oddities as this is my father's favourite cafe.

There are a number of good restaurants in Howick now and 'good' often comes down to customer service. Paid about $18 for mussels and most of them were off tasting. I understand mussels are unpredictable and hard to keep fresh. Bare in mind Mussles are under $3 per K/G just down the road at countdown - so if you're serving them, nail it. This wasn't really the issue. When I gave feedback that the meal wan't good I got a borderline rude response. The place is expensive and for a seafood lover there's now another local option that's cheaper, fresher and better customer service.

A well established cafe at the upper end of Howick, The Apothecary offers a well curated range of food and beverages in a relaxed and somewhat stylish setting. The décor is vaguely apothecaryish, complete with old bottles and other ephemera. A range of teas, coffee, kombucha, and such is available. Helpful and friendly staff are on hand to bring food and drinks to your table. Yep, it's quite a good little café. The rear entrance off the large carpark on Wellington Street is handy.
