Reviews of The Mustard Kitchen

Googled good pies in my area and this place came up. Bought a chicken and leek pie. The pastry is really good but the filling was bland and chicken overcooked. Couldn't taste leek at all. At $8.50 each I wouldn't buy from there again but have given three stars for excellent pie pastry.

This was a surprising find, it's more of a pass-by lunch bar than an actual sit in and dine eatery, but there's still some seating outside and some high chairs inside. The food are your casual pies and sandwiches sort of pick, but they're of really good quality. I got the steak and mushroom pie and they have actual chunky pieces of steak in them, with big slices of button mushrooms. They've also got a cute little garden area down the back with more seating. Would definitely come back .

This is not a bad spot to grab a quick lunch if you're on the go. The gyoza was not bad (pork and chives, by the way) , and the pies are pretty good. Would really love it if there were some more salad options. It's hard to get excited about, but I do like the stuff I get from here, especially if I'm just looking for a quick light lunch or bite.

Great service, nice cabinet food options and the coffee was amazing
N.
The best chicken and mushroom filo I've ever eaten.

While visiting Auckland for our Anniversary we googled best donuts in Auckland and we found great reviews about The Mustard Kitchen. After missing the turn off to Morningside Rd we eventually found the cafe. Super friendly staff and the donuts didn’t disappoint. We also had a pie which was delicious. And as we chatted to the lovely person who served us and telling him where we had come from we got a free sample of their famous caramel slice - heavenly. Thank you The Mustard Kitchen!

The only place I will actually pay $7.50 for a pie! It's so worth it! My partner gets a mince and cheese pie and I always get the chicken and leek pie. It's so filling and every bite feel like heaven. Always the same and consistent. The coffee is also amazing. The only down side is location ... its a bit out of the way - but that won't stop me from eating here!
A.
Pretty good steak, ale and cheese pie. 4 out of 5. Nice thin pastry and good quality filling. The issues that I have found are that pastry does not hold together that well and the filling is a tad strong on the herb aroma side. Would definitely come back to try their other pies and things.

The pies, they are not cheap, but they are very large, and very good. I also like the XL coffee option. The sweet brioche, when toasted with butter, was one of the best in Auckland, but they have stopping doing it. I can't describe how disappointed I am, it was the reason I used to go here.

I had coffe and it made me feel 😽

Fantastic spot for lunch take out or eat in, the only destruction is the difficulty in parking even with a couple of spaces out the back, it can take a few laps of the block to get near. However it is worth the effort, great pies, a selection of sandwiches and wraps, plus a great variety of innovative offerings. Their miniature apple pies are a must try

Always good coffee. They’re promoting reduced waste so offer a discount for using a keep cup. The French toast brioche is too good.
Guinness pie is also a good option. Not a lot of space to sit, but great for grabbing lunch on the go.
Staff really friendly. Theres a large number of regulars that proves this.
J.
The BEST Bacon 'n (Two!!) Egg pie in Auckland! My rather bulging gut reinforces that claim. Lovely super friendly staff (who make great coffee) ensure that we go nowhere else but here for our daily coffees & aforementioned pies - amongst a superb range of always tempting savory and sweet snacks!

This place is a must. Food and coffee are great. Service good.

Walked pass here on the way to Morningside train station. Cosy little lunch bar with many options displayed in the hot cabinet.
What grabbed my attention was the size and varieties of pies they have! I got myself a steak and mushroom pie as the chef refilling pie cabinet with fresh baked pies. I also ordered a small mocha to wash down my pie. Big chunky piece of meat with beautiful gravy inside the freshly baked MAN SIZE pie - taste was perfectly right, not too salty or fatty. I am a Mocha person and I order Mocha whenever I go. I have to say this is one of the best Mocha i have ever had! Well done to the barista who made my coffee. Perfect balance between Kokako beans brew coffee with their secret chocolate mix? I don't know how to describe it but the taste was so unique - subtle sweet, chocolately and fragrance!
Final thing worth mention was the friendly polite staffs who served me even though there was a queue during lunch rush hour. He greeted everyone with a smile and took his time to double confirm the order was right.
Overall 5 stars experience for this little corner lunch bar. Will definitely be back to try out more food in near future.

Was looking for a place to get some brekkie, went to a nearby place down the road from Mustard Kitchen, that despite saying it opened at 7, was not willing to serve anyone until they were ready..crappy attitude...and no food was in the cabinet...so headed down the road and discovered the holy grail that is Mustard Kitchen. This place was fully buzzing at 7am, cabinets stacked with freshly made and baked goods, and coffee ready within 3 mins. Staff are super onto it and awesome to see women at the helm, because they do a damn sight better job that those rude dudes down the road. This place is tops, and do amazing baked goodies. I will be back.

Your tradie coffee open at 6.30am. Excellent thai roll

Best Sausage Rolls I have ever had!!!
Fantastic and friendly staff , great coffee and very good gluten free, vegan and dairy free options.
Thanks Mustard you rock
I.
Had good food from here before but wasn't impressed with the quality of the meat in the steak and mushroom pie. Improve on the meat and I would still buy from here cause everything else is good quality

We stop in for bao buns and coffee on the way to drum lessons at DBase. A great little cafe - not flashy but clean and friendly and sustainably minded. Not a lot of seating, which is all outdoors.
H.
If you guys say you are open at 6.30am please have food ready.. or otherwise open later until everything is ready. I went in at 7am which is 30mins after they open and still they had nothing fresh ready, only like a couple of pies and slices from the day before. It’s a work day I want the stop by and grab some lunch please start earlier so the cafe has food ready on opening time. All i wanted was a sandwich or a wrap 😭😭😭🤦♀️
E.
Pie is not worth $7, but it wasnt bad.
J.
Great pies and staff. Thanks for keeping the puppy company while we chose between gingerbread man and lolly cake! Lolly cake was the winner on the day and yum
A.
Jesus Christ himself couldn’t make a better pie. Chicken and leak all day. All day.

Good food. Friendly staff. Would not expect to find a place like this, based on its location. Nice one. A hidden gem. Cheers
A.
I think they have changed management - not as nice as it used to be, chia pudding breakfast thing now doesn't come with berries yet same price and brioche is half the filling ( something different too as not as nice ) - a pity really
T.
Great coffee and best pies in Auckland. Their donuts are epic too.
v.
They have great food but the sign outside said best donuts and they only had one! Three of us had to share 😫
R.
The Food here is great, the have really nice pies, with lots of options for most of the food allergies. It is a shame they have no indoor seating
