Reviews of C1 Espresso
J.
Funky cafe, lovely style and delicious food and coffee. I had stumbled across this cafe when I was looking on places to go for coffee (via in a Google Maps search) and was drawn to the cool pneumatic tubes. The breakfast I ordered didn't come in these though and I didn't see anyone else have their meals delivered this way but was cool to see the tubes around the cafe. I liked the old Singer sewing machine that was a water pump operated by turning the flywheel...funky. Also liked the door to the toilets that looks like a bookshelf full of books. The coffee was excellent and the homemade sweet crumpets served with peaches, honey, mascapone and pistachios was perfect. Staff were friendly and the place had a great atmosphere.
T.
Enjoyed my experience at C1 when I was visiting Christchurch. Thought the presentation of my avocado and eggs on toast was quite fun and I also had a really great chai latte. I can recommend this cafe!
C.
Quick and simple dishes. Amazing drinks... Don't miss the passion fruit mojito.
Friendly staff and fun atmosphere for the kids!
w.
Awesome interesting cafe. The coffee is ground in the old bank vault and there is a secret sliding door to the bathrooms. Well worth hunting out.
M.
Awesome food, with healthy options. We got the Buddha bowl and the Open burrito. I also had an iced mocha and it was one of the best around, heaps of ice cream in it, marshmallows AND a choccy fish (very naughty). 10/10 will have more meetings here.
k.
Love the food, drink and ambience. One thing that is weird is the fly picture in my coffee cup and I have to see it whenever I take a sip lol
K.
Totally impressed with the selection of food, plus it all looks so fresh and well presented. I have been here a few times, and today had the apple crumble which was lovely and filling!
H.
Amazing coffee shop in CHCH
Very nice place to enjoy amazing coffee!
Highly recommended 👍
H.
Not only is the food amazing, the drinks stellar and service staff charming; the ambience is incredible.
The building itself is a repurposed post office - Christchurch's first, hence C1. That theme of reusing material for a different purpose is prevalent throughout most of the cafe: water dispensers are sewing machines and dentist equipment, coffee machines are old bank safes and audiobooks - originally made to be a companion when you read alongside the narrator - now sooth you from the comfort of the restroom.
Everytime I come here, it's always a blast and the food is consistently amazing, not to mention delivered by tube directly to your table (if you order a "post-able" item of the menu).
K.
Stunning coffee and love that the food comes down the tube. The decor was quirky, especially the hidden rest room with the figurines and the refashioned singer sewing machine water fountain. Absolute class and set in an old post office building. Will be back for sure. Excellent food.
D.
Cool place-super beautiful outside! There are outdoor and indoor seating. I stopped for breakfast. We ordered coffee (there are many choices) and breakfast, which was very tasty, and their coffee quality was very high! The whole environment is really neat-it's water, it came out of an old sewing machine! To go to the bathroom, that is behind the bookcase door. very funny! If we stayed longer in Christchurch, we would have hoped to come back in the afternoon.
This is hilarious because it is like 7a.
G.
Just had breakfast their yesterday. A number of dishes are list on their menu as Vegan on request, and they're great. They don't just leave out animal based ingredients, ... they are genuine Vegan alternatives. I had Vegan creamy mushrooms on wholegrain toast (which was a great thick slice of toast) and it was delicious. And the staff were lovely and friendly. I'd highly recommend.
N.
The best place in town for overall experience. We are regulars. Kids love the activity books, and the food arriving through the tube! I love the coffee and the cabinet treats. We all love the quirky features and decor 🖤
D.
What an awesome Cafe especially how you get your fries or burgers etc via the tube to your table......real cool.
I had the French toast......so so good. The staff were friendly and realky helpful. Nice atmosphere and surroundings. Would recommend to anyone if you are in Christchurch and you are looking for good food, staff and a different way to get your food. A+++
M.
This is my go-to place whenever I'm in town. I absolutely adore this place. The food, the interior, the service, are all of exceptional quality! I personally always order the eggs ben since their hash browns are my weakness. Their hash browns are unlike any others I've tried, and this is probably the main factor I always return.
Please do try using their water dispenser too. It doesn't get any more hipster than this.
This time, I decided to be adventurous and ordered the iced chocolate. Basically, it's a drink to diabetes.
P.
Cool space, interesting fittings, good coffee.and central.check the water fountain.
K.
Kids loved it, coffee was perfect as always, my breakfast burrito was the best I've had....and Stephen Fry read me Harry Potter while I was in the bathroom.
A.
Had coffee and one of the desserts. Nice taste and good coffee
S.
One of my favourite coffee places to go. It’s a must visit if you’re in Christchurch city
M.
There is no better place in the city than this one. Simply loved it. The concept is cool, meal portions are good enough and taste fantastic. The coffee was good too. They always serve with a smile and service was quick.
R.
We hit this place for lunch. When we first came in, we were very impressed by their peculiar interior. Some meals even were delivered by pneumatic tubes (the food is still delivered neatly though).
Every meal (fish and chips, beef and pork burger) we ordered tasted great and wasn’t disappointing at all, despite a huge number of costumers that day. Their latte was also strong and good.
N.
I lived on Poplar Lane before the quakes and C1 was literally right underneath our apartment block, although it is now located just across the road from its old location due to quake damage, it was so nice to come back and see it still going strong after being away for the past 19 years. This funky dope cafe is iconic to Christchurch's inner city landscape, sit back and enjoy the friendly, genuine and down to earth service surrounded by the warm deco and dope beats, it feels like home. Thank you C1 for keeping it real since forever!
M.
Nice cafe. Coffee was perfect, and the Hot Chocolate was really good as well.
Staff was polite, and the premises was clean. Nice place to stop for a quick caffeine boost.
They also have quirky things, like a water tap made out of an old sewing machine.
C.
Excellent service. Interesting lunch experience. Lots of details in the cafe are amazing. Would come back again.
C.
The service here was great, the staff were very attentive to our needs (noticing and replacing a dropped spoon, a little gift in the child's pneumatic food tube), friendly and polite!
Really enjoyed how many things there are here for children to look at, from the ride on horse to the sequined wall, and the 4 year old loved looking at the cars in the wall case!
The food was delicious also. Thanks heaps for a super visit, see you again soon!
K.
This cafe made me a very happy boy. Not only was their coffee exceptionally good and there was curly fries, the curly fries was sent to me via pneumatic tubes and the water refilling station was an old sewing machine that used the wheel on the side as a tap. How cool is that?!
W.
Had breakfast here yesterday and back today! Breakfast burrito was delicious, flavours on point! Could have been hotter in the middle but still great. Coffee a little inconsistent from yesterday to today, yesterday was very good.
N.
There are so many amazing things I want to share about this cafe. One of the great feature is that certain foods are delivered by pipes on the ceiling that shoot down besides your table. The access to the toilets is hidden by a bookcase that opens when you step near it and you are read a Harry Potter film (audiobook) in the loo haha There is many options for people with food and allergy restrictions and it has a great vibe over all. The staff are amazing. This is really a favourite of mine.
V.
Is the second time I visit C1 Espresso and I just love the place. It has a unique ambience and interior decoration, the sweet are just amazing. I had a Mix. Every and chocolate Muffin and just was Yummy !!!! The old tunes for mail delivery is so much fun when you order some of the food ..... getting the drinking water from the old Sewing machine is just great. The staff is very friendly and helpful, you feel like you are in your lounge seating on the sofa ☺️
The most convenient thing is that is open after 5pm, so I can meet with friends after work for a coffee and some sweets.
It’s worth a visit !!!!
g.
Awesome place for brunch. Great coffee (if you're brave try the charcoal Or beetroot lattes). Loved the novelty of having my curly fries delivered by pneumatic tube! Be sure to try getting water out of the sewing machine.
A.
Fast service even with a full customer load in the dining room. Plenty of space to sit indoors and out, with some very cool decor. Great décor, but can be excessively noisy at times. They are right to offer only one size of flat white - that's what a flat white is! They are wrong not to offer trim milk. Staff engagement often leaves something to be desired - customer interactions are not a strong suit.
R.
This is a christchurch institution of fantastic coffee, great food and a really chill place to hang out. I have been coming here since it opened way back in my 2nd to last year of high school. It was the place to be! It used to have fish tanks in the floor and covered in a wallpaper of comics that were laminated, I remember thinking 'a cafe cannot get funkier than this'. It has! In its reincarnation the space is amazing, the food is spectacular and the coffee and tea...well!!! Wunderbar!! If you want an amazing dining experience, quiet coffee or a chill out with close friends this is the place. I still love it here. I love you guys. Thank you for being so wonderful and always challenging the status quo of what a cafe is. This truly is one if the best things about chch. It shares the fundamental aesthetic of what chch is, ever changing and fun...✌
Y.
Really nice shop!
Give us lots of surprises
U can tell that the owner's intention in every corner of shop.
Staff is friendly and food are also nice.
If you came to Christchurch don't miss it :)
M.
Love this cafe that doesn't take itself so seriously (have fun browsing their menu / activity book!). Although prices were slightly on the steep side, the portions are filling. The curly fries are the best, especially when it's delivered to you via pneumatic tube! Always fun to watch and figure out how to open that sacred canister of chips.
N.
Oh God! Amazing and peculiar savoury and sweet options. Broccoli loaf and Almond custard cake was delicious! I’ve been trying different coffee places all over the world and this one stood out. It’s not a coffee place to chill as the music is loud and it’s crowded, but staff is super prepared and very friendly also.
J.
One of the MOST WEIRDLY ENTERTAINING (and delicious) CAFE EXPERIENCES I've ever had! Curly fries come from tubes in the ceiling. Water comes from a sewing machine (and fizzy water from a dentist fountain). Bathrooms are hidden behind the bookshelf. Coffee roaster is in the vault. It's an experience that you won't forget.
L.
Quirky cafe love the curly fries shooting around above u in tubes. Water dispensers, book shelves and historic old building effects. Food has good choices for all types. Outdoor area appealing. Busy fun atmosphere
R.
I’m really pleased these guys have survived and thrived and undergone a bit of a reinvention post quake, it’s awesome to see them doing well :) The coffee is excellent (as always) and the food was very good too. Nothing too adventurous but very well executed and tasty. I’m probably clouded because I miss the old C1 but I did feel the atmosphere was slightly lacking.
S.
Thanks for brekkie. The crumpets and avo where beautiful. The staff friendly. Shame about the fly 🪰in the coffee ☕ "NOT". The little novelty was really cute. Loved the coffee cups. Will treasure the ones that we brought. ☕ 🪰
J.
Come for the quirky atmosphere, stay for the pneumatically delivered sliders - this is not your average cafe.
From the outside the building and outdoor dining area has a Florida feel to it, and as you walk in your eyes immediately fixate on the network of pneumatic tubes that weave across the ceiling and to a number of tables throughout.
These deliver a set of sliders with chips ($22) between 3 and 7pm, which I got and loved - the three featured in my picture were delicious, so I'd recommend you get them if you're indecisive.
To top it all off, there's sparkling water on tap (use the flip-switch, not the knobs to dispense) and there're star wars themed toilets that you access through a sliding book case, and have the Harry Potter audio-books being read on a loop!
Worth a trip just for the experience alone - the delicious food was a bonus and I'd happily come back for more!
M.
C1 Expresso is a very nice and very popular central city coffee and food cafe. There is good food with comfortable seating in an atmosphere that is calm and relaxed.
They have great outdoor seating and on a warm sunny day is a good place to meet and talk to friends and or other business people. The staff are friendly and helpful and there is generally not a long wait. Definitely worthy of visiting and seeing what you think.
J.
The neatest coffee shop in Christchurch, in all of the South Island if you ask me! Best flat white. Fun atmosphere and inventions used for serving. You'll just have to check it out yourself!
N.
Oh my golly just what our scooter group needed a great coffee shop with amazing food options an outside dining...
J.
Great atmosphere and novel concept not delivered on by average food and above average prices.
The cafe decor and system of pneumatic pipe food delivery is unique and really gives it character. This got us excited to come in and try what they had to offer.
The service was fine and we got our hot drinks quickly, a chai and hot chocolate which we enjoyed.
After a short wait (which was a plus considering it was quite busy) our pork nachos arrived at the table and our burger and fries were delivered via pipe. The nachos were pretty tasty and our favourite of the two. At $22 they were a little on the pricey side for lunch but we felt that was reflected well in the large portion size and nice flavour combination.
However the burger unfortunately was merely average. The bun was small (likely to fit in the pipe tube in which it came) and the handful of curly fries it came with were merely warm rather than nice and hot and crispy. The beef patty was fine but nothing to write home about. I am not sure about NZ but for a similar price in Australia you can get a much nicer serve of burger and fries in a larger portion. For $20 ish dollars I was not very satisfied with what I got.
Overall I don't regret coming, the cool food delivery system via pipe and nice decor make it worth checking out once. However I would not come back after that, as we have had much nicer (and more affordable) food around Christchurch in our stay here.
S.
The highlight is the cafe using transparent pipe to send some of their food to customer in a container. too bad we did not order it as we only found it out after we sit down waiting our food, otherwise we would try.
we order tea, coffee and chocolate mousse, all good.
K.
There are plenty of average cafe's out there that make a decent coffee and are nice to visit but don't stand out in any particular way. This is not true for C1 Espresso. Located in one of the best corners of Christchurch with plenty to see and do, this is a very memorable cafe to visit. Thoughtfully designed, the best banoffee pie I've had in my life and of course the pneumatic tubes are well worth experiencing. Pricing is on the higher end but definitely worth it. Easy to recommend and I'll be making sure to add it to the itinerary for any visitors we have. Easy to recommend.
J.
decent coffees / lattes! their fries are good as well, but apart from that the food’s usually really pricey! the menu food is pretty ok although not entirely worth the money (portions arent huge), cabinet food more often than not doesnt taste as good as it looks! service is pretty meh but its a nice place to sit, esp because its open till late
J.
I always love this place. If I get to take someone not from Christchurch out for brunch or lunch this is where I come. Everytime. Delicious coffee, juice and food. The place is super quirky, get your food delivered by pneumatic tubes, get your water from a sewing machine or go to the toilets behind a moving bookcase. The atmosphere is incredible. If you're a local or passing through it should definitely be a stop for you!
C.
Cool little place. Great selection of teas. Service sometimes friendly- def not if you ask for trim milk in your coffee, they don't do that and will look at you with utter distain for suggesting you want your coffee that way. Curly fries in the tubes one of a kind thing so always a hit with tourists. They do clear any plates as soon as you've finished last mouthful or try to take away your tea before you've even finished- a bit too eager sometimes to get rid of you to free up table space.
D.
This is my second trip to Christchurch, and my 3rd visit to C1. The food is excellent, the atmosphere is very cool and hip, the service isn't bad either. I love the attention to small details like the pnumatic tubes, the hidden door behind the bookcase, the terms and conditions for the wifi, and of course, the menu with bad reviews. If im lucky enough to return to this beautiful city, ill be back here too.
K.
The hot chocolates were amazing and it was amsome to see our chips fly above us and down the tube next to us.
V.
Really enjoyed our visit here. I especially liked that I got to start the brewing process of my tea. No problem with too strong tea finally!
A.
Nice coffee and friendly staff. Good amount of outdoor seating which is a big plus currently. Vax status was checked.
O.
We came for coffee, the girl running the hostel we'd been staying at recommended C4 and C1 Espresso to us - C4 is the place where they also actually roast it, while at C1 they only serve it. We arrived in the afternoon, went inside, placed our order at the counter, paid, received our table number and went outside. Despite the great weather, almost all tables inside were occupied, so were most of the tables outside, but we still managed to get one in the sun. The flat white I had was great, so was my friend's cappuccino. We both very much enjoyed our lamingtons, which we'd never had before, and thought the way of presenting them with the raspberry in the syringe was quite creative. So was all the interior of the café and all the tiny little details such as the fun brochure on the table with all kinds of funny facts and stories and a faked horoscope.
The place itself is already very cool, but what certainly got us was the bookshelf that moves once you walk towards it - you need to walk through/past it if you want to get to the bathrooms. And once you're there, there's yet another suprise - you can listen to the Harry Potter books being read out, which is just so funny.
R.
I loved it!, the staff were professional and polite, I got a Blat burger and fries from the pneumatic tub running around the sealing, i had a good chuckle when i heard Harry Potter playing in the bathroom, it was a unique experience and i liked the ambience, the coffee was good and i enjoyed my burger.
L.
Funky environment, innovative, beautiful and delicious food. Fast service despite busy, not overly noisy. Curly fries delivered by Lamson tube system. French toast (pictured) was gorgeous though not particularly spectacular tastewise, everything else was delicious though. Pinball machine a hit with my friends.
s.
Love at first sight, food was amazing! The place was amazing! I felt like a child again being this excited and wowed, cant wait to come back on my next holiday
B.
What a cool place! The decoration inside is great, sitting around here won't make you bored (also looking for the bathroom, this is a fun game, looking for which Star Wars character room you want to enter). I really like my blue smoothie bowl, which is beautiful and beautiful. I thought the bread with salmon and avo was a bit dry, but otherwise, there was really nothing to complain about.
提.
Not too much coffee shop have"green tee latte" and "beetroot latte". they have good idea to make things new and interesting. nice staff and I never seen that's much people in a coffee shop.
A.
Cutest gem in Christchurch. Went here for breakfast and was worth it. Pretty nice concept, food and coffee was good too!
A.
Yummy food. This place has great character too. Must visit when in Christchurch.
A.
Great coffee, very nice place but not as much service as it is busy. Coffee is one of the best though
Edit: they don't give the big sphere ice with the iced americano anymore 😢😢
s.
Cool little place for coffee and snacks, fun serving fries with pneumatic tubes. Love the decor and atmosphere, friendly staff. But was a bit disappointed with their table service. One staff wanted to clean up our table without asking when we were still going. Would give it a 5 star review if it wasn't that, shame.
L.
My favorite cafe in Christchurch, i love how the menu is always changing. I always love to bring people here for the novelty drinks and to see the pneumatic tubes in action.
S.
Accomodating staff able to provide varied doetry requiremwnts to certain needs. We like the atmoshpere at C1 partly because of the size your not overwhelmed by other tables and people talking and such a diverse group of pwople will pop in maybe your studying or working and pop in with your laptop hide in a corner and have a drink and work on the lappy.
I suffer sensory overload often and c1 has plenty of space where your not overwhelemed and the joy of the shooting food. The kids love it.
I.
A place to definitely visit here in Christchurch, great ambience, currently has two pinball machines, the pneumatic tubes are pretty rad, coffee is decent and there's wifi and power plugs! The food is average! LOVE their menus too and their secret lair to the kitchen and toilet :)
B.
The BLAT was virtually inedible. Soggy bacon and bread. Didn’t seem overly fresh. The tea selection is always good however.
D.
Wish I lived in Christchurch and be able to come to this place more often. The decor is super unique, the music, the little book wall that opens to the bathroom, so genius.
Every detail in the place is so authentic and the food is just delicious. I normally always have egg bene in every place when I having breakfast or brunch and this place is out of the gate, just incredibly good. Good staff. Simply a place everyone must visit when in Christchurch
I.
With all good reviews I expected a cafe with very high standards. Unfortunately I cannot give them a very good rating. The place is small and tables are way too close to each other and with lots of people it was quite crowded and noisy. We had to wait for a while for coffee. The range of desserts was quite limited. Yet, the quality and taste of food was great - cannot complain on that side. Pneumatic delivery is nice, but I probably won't go there for the second time as there are some other cafes nearby.
K.
My favourite coffee haunt in the South Island. Fun filled. The cold brew is out of this world. Visit the toilets, go on their wifi and check out the booklets. Lots of awesome merchandise also.
T.
Staff are friendly and magically know how to get orders to patrons without table numbers.
Ordered porridge with bacon and a latte, unfortunately the food was not to my taste, much too sweet and fancy for me. Also do not have skim/trim milk for coffee.
Overall very expensive place, but they are packed so I guess they can afford to do that.
R.
Delicious flat whites made here, using their house blend (C1000 I think). Had to bring some beans home for myself. Came here nearly every morning whilst in Christchurch for work, and coffee was great every time, and was a reasonable price. Cafe is cool too, with a retro industrial kinda theme. Definitely recommend checking this place out.
T.
Food beautiful and tasty. Coffee excellent. Atmosphere and Ambience was fantastic and welcoming. The pipe delivery system for the food was awesomely fun. Makes any 40 year old turn it to a kid again....will difinately return as the staff were very friendly and helpful
V.
An absolutely must in Christchurch! You won’t be disappointed. Great ambience, lots of surprises, good coffee... it’s worth the experience
J.
Incredible theme for a cafe! Got to go there to just experience it. Pneumatic table serving, coffee vaults, water dispensing sewing machine, a vege garden and home to bunnies in the heart of the city, food decor...what's there not to like? If you don't like it and review..they will publish it!
R.
Coffee is excellent make sure you ask for a double shot and yummy counter food. The chocolate Afghans made me think of my brother. Next to the movie theatre a nice afternoon out
c.
This is a cool to have lazy brunches. The salmon avocado toast could be shared. The Moroccan chicken pie was good too. So were the coffees
K.
My first visit, i have heard so many good feedback about this place. We only stop for drinks which was really good and next time plan to try the food in the tubes.
Very interesting place. Love the secret exit to the toilets. Staff were really friendly and knew what they were doing. We also enjoyed the little menu magazine while not waiting to long for our drinks
R.
Wonderful place! Located in a beautiful and warm old post office, the friendly and knowledgable staff serves delicious coffees. Sunny terrace for the warmer days. Highly recommended!
N.
I loved the curly fries, they were so good. The interior design is awesome and it adds character to this place. Very convenient and close to where I was working, and I'm planning on going again when I am in CHCH next.
P.
This is a great cafe in the central city for great food and coffee. Staff are friendly and this place is great for children.
E.
Fantastic cafe / restaurant. Excellent food, really fast service and amazing atmosphere. Pneumatically delivered chips and Harry Potter audio books playing in the bathroom topped it off. One of my favourite things about this place is that all their disposable containers were biodegradable!
R.
The food was great, the service excellent. The only letdown was my coffee was a bit cold. Had they nailed the coffee (being coffee connoisseurs and all) it would have been 5 stars.
M.
I only knew the old C4 in High Street and have been meaning to check out this reimagined version. I was completely shocked by what I found a super retro vision in a dark concrete garage. But Oh, it's a completely coffee aficionados den. So many different styles and tastes. My usual tall black was the smallest demitasse of pure black nectar. Definitely coming back for a much longer visit.
T.
So much fun! Burgers served through pneumatic tubes, sliding bookshelves, 80s pinball machines, old school water coolers. Sliders were really good! Loved the selection of teas too - try the apple pomegranate oolong. This is the cafe I'd recommend for Christchurch. (Oh, and check out the huge TV game console in front of Vodafone ;))
I.
I had a great flat white and scramble egg with toast for breakfast. Nice place to chat with friends.
M.
Located inside the old High Street Post Office they have designed this unique space with some interesting quirks. From having the toilets concealed behind an automated sliding book shelf, sending orders to the kitchen through the vacuum tube system and housing the coffee roasting machine in the old vault this is a one of a kind cafe. The menu offers an extensive list of coffee (chemex, cold drip), lattes (chai, turmeric, charcoal, beetroot) alcohol and unique food options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Opted for their 'Fat Black' which combines thier in-house roasted C1000 coffee with coconut oil, butter, vanilla and cinnamon. Brilliant and inspiring spot that is a must-see cafe in this historic city.
S.
Love this place, the vibes the music, the lightning at night. Service was fantastic tonight. The ice creams weren't out till tomorrow and we asked for them tonight. They said they weren't available till tomorrow but gave us hot chocolates to make up for it ☺ Thanks!
B.
We orders the filtered coffee which I have uploaded a picture of. $9.90 for 2 people and was very happy with the result. A smooth, full flavoured coffee. The atmosphere is great with high ceilings and lots of light. Central location easy to find parking nearby.
J.
Funky location with cool pneumatic tubes delivering food to the table. Good meals and gluten free options available. Ask for the polenta chips!
S.
Awesome Cafe with great food and drinks selection. They catered well for my sister who is vegan. Such a cool place with pneumatic delivery of select items on the menu with clever water fountains and a secret entrance into the bathroom. The bathrooms have audiobooks playing on speakers while your in there, we had Stephen Fry reading a Harry Potter book. Certainly a fun place to come with kids or if looking for a good coffee or tea (no skim milk though 😎)
A.
It's great they have chemex. But you have to do it yourself.
Thought it would be prepared, otherwise I could make it at home.
J.
The colour changing tea in the potion bottle was absolutely delicious and the burger and curly fries coming via pneumatic tubes is the coolest way to have food delivered
M.
This is a very interesting place. I didn't go there for a very long time since very rude service back in about 2014. However, the staff were friendly this time. The food was excellent too. Its well worth just a look at all the cool things there. Pretty hipster, but recommend to anyone looking for somewhere chill, different and interesting. Also, they show bad comments in the menu, so I was tempted to rate 1 star for the lols. But it is actually worth going to.
c.
Beautiful shop, you can enjoy a wonderful brunch and coffee here.
R.
Great experience. Food comes in a postal tube (old converted building) so delicious 10/10!
B.
Late night Wednesday- great atmosphere. Friendly service at the counter. Delicious slices and better coffee. The environment is on point. Town Hall lights always bring a smile to my face. Honestly, I miss the old C1.. Kind of dirty, good art, fun posters, always pumping but never felt overcrowded. Suited my teens and student vibes. The new C1 feels crowded at points during the day and I've felt a bit overwhelmed there but tonight I loved it. I've made a mental note and will definitely come back after work hours. Thanks for a great evening.
L.
Great atmosphere! Some meal delivered via pneumatic network in the cafe. Very special.
M.
This is the best cafe in the town, the sewing machine water dispenser, the pneumatic tube food delivery really fun and attractive, the food is tasty, everything is awesome. Definitely will come back again for my next visit to Christchurch.
J.
Good coffee... nice peeps... free wifi... nice place to sit outside and chill with an awesome relaxing atmosphere ... first time here felt I want to come back!
P.
Nice enough cafe style food although a bit on the pricey side.
Annoyingly, no table service to take your order so you have to line up and pay. When we were there this meant meant a big queue, which could've been avoided with full table service.
Empty table wasn't cleaned when we arrived so we had to clean it ourselves.
T.
So much fun! Food delivered straight from the kitchen via lamson tubes!
Water from a sewing machine!
Toilets accessed via a secret door behind the bookcase.
Coffee is pretty good, but the portions are smaller than I expected (although this may just be the impression given when food is packed into a lamson tube?).
The kids loved it. The grown ups loved it.
S.
With 1461 reviews I guess I cannot add much. It’s a great place; the only reservation is that the potato croutons (which surprisingly were the base for the Benedict) can use some salt.
There is a convenient parking lot just opposite the street (you need to pay at the meter, can be by credit)
Z.
Came to C1 Espresso for breakfast while in Christchurch. I ordered Salmon Benedict (better known as Eggs Royale) which was perfectly executed but the staff missed out the avocado unfortunately. Still a nice experience. The sliding bookshelf to get to the toilets was an excellent idea, not to mention the audio book (Harry Potter: Goblet of Fire) that was played at the toilet.
A.
The espresso wasn’t great but this place still gets 5* for:
1. Its massive tea selection.
2. The fun we got watching food being delivered via capsule through pneumatic tube.
If you do go for a coffee, it’s a very (very!) dark roast with nothing in the way of subtlety.
C.
Nice atmosphere it’s an old post office.
A lot of delicious food is available and the coffee is great. Staff is also very friendly
A.
Small large coffees and pricey but hot and tasty
S.
First visit. Pretty pricey for the novelty factor of food delivered via tube. The sliders were fairly average (chicken was the best, cauliflower was meh, lamb was bland). Curly fries were flavorless (and in tiny fragments, like the bottom of the bag remnants). Shame cause I wanted to like this place from other reviews.
T.
Quirky place for good coffee and hipster scenesters. I enjoyed my breakfast burrito while reading their menu, which includes a section of highlighted bad reviews from trip advisor.
a.
Really enjoyed the service and food. Thank you
A.
Salmon Eggs Bennie was great. And look at all that avocado. Not the cheapest and the lines are annoying but the food was quite good.
M.
Delicious! Wonderful customer service in a cute little cafe. We will be back next time we are in NZ. Loved the water dispenser!!
M.
Awesome place to grab a coffee.
- Great decoration
- Good music
- Friendly staff
K.
Awesome quirky cafe, food fantastic and options for everyone with any dietary requirement. Highly recommend
Z.
5 Stars! Boom! We stumbled upon this gem while driving around Christchurch looking for a decent coffee. My Wife spotted the 'Coffee Roasters & Makers' sign, I slammed on the brakes, whacked the rental in reverse, and turned off the engine in an early morning free park! We could tell, just by looking at the outside that this was where we would find nectar of the gods.
C1 did not disappoint. Great atmosphere, Fantastic Coffee, and the best bacon & eggs I've had this year (sorry Wifey). Having my breakfast delivered by the chef was icing on the cake!
In the infamous words of a certain US political figure... I'll be back!!
J.
Busy cafe with very funky decor. Also some quirky fun if you self serve yourself a glass of water! Had the porridge for breakfast which was pretty decent though the coffee was a little on the cool side.
A.
I liked the decoration and the way they bring the food, i have been here for coffee and dessert and it was delicious , I really enjoyed the time I spent in this awesome place and for sure will come back soon
C.
Service was fast and staff friendly. Food and coffee was great.
R.
Really nice Cafe in the city. Tried their delicious candy floss hot chocolate.
J.
Good coffee... nice peeps... free wifi... nice place to sit outside and chill with an awesome relaxing atmosphere ... first time here felt I want to come back!
J.
decent coffees / lattes! their fries are good as well, but apart from that the food’s usually really pricey! the menu food is pretty ok although not entirely worth the money (portions arent huge), cabinet food more often than not doesnt …
M.
Located inside the old High Street Post Office they have designed this unique space with some interesting quirks. From having the toilets concealed behind an automated sliding book shelf, sending orders to the kitchen through the vacuum …
D.
Awesome food awesome coffee and epic style.
A.
Quality food, friendly service.
A.
Good food, good service only downside is that it is a little cramped inside
T.
Quirky place for good coffee and hipster scenesters. I enjoyed my breakfast burrito while reading their menu, which includes a section of highlighted bad reviews from trip advisor.
B.
Love the vibe here! Service is fast and professional. Food and drinks are very well presented and taste really good, the pneumatic tubes for the sliders are fantastic!
A.
Great, quirky cafe. Plenty of seating. Fast, friendly, tasty. Definitely go there!
A.
Enjoyed receiving my fries delivered in a tube. Breakfast was good and so was the coffee. Nice vibes
s.
This place Is a must if you are in the area . The coffee and food is on point , the staff are friendly and so helpful. They have these rabbit Warren of tubes that burgers and fries are delivered down.
Couldn't recommend this place enough!!!
H.
The pneumatic tubes are so cool when you're food is ready it will go through the tubes and will arrive next to you.
H.
Beautiful Victorian building. Excellent tea and great cabinet food
A.
Such an awesome environment being inside what feels to be a heritage building and sharing the same space of generations passed. They use the pneumatic system to deliver some food on the ceiling! The bathroom is nicely hidden behind a shifting bookshelf and has really high standards of cleanliness.
The cabinet food is mouth watering and the menu hits the mark always. Can't wait to return for my daily coffee tomorrow!
P.
First time for me after being told good things & I was not disappointed at all!!!
Great friendly environment for myself & my family (wife & 2 kids). My boy loved his fluffy made special right at the table & then the curly fries (wow) not only tasty & beautifully cooked but the delivery system via the tubes is a very nice touch keeping with the history of the building.
We will be back very soon!
Cheers
M.
Great coffee place, very tasty breakfast (take the eggs Benedict with portobello mushrooms). Interesting decor and hidden toilets! Would recommend for brunch, lunch and dinner!
S.
Fun place to visit with great atmosphere; to be honest one visit was enough but thoroughly enjoyable.
Great coffee and yum food but If you do have an apatite I would not recommend anything delivered via the pneumatic tubes as the servings are relatively small (especially for the price you are paying), I would recommend the nachos.
You are paying a lil extra for the cool experience.
I.
Good vibes. Delicious breakfast and nice cabinet food! Worth a visit!
A.
Honestly, some of THE best food and coffee I’ve ever had. The customer service was awesome and it was reflected in the food! Highly recommend if you’re going to Christchurch 😊
A.
Fantastic coffee and meal.. Would love to try all of them..
A.
I love the quirky decor and the interesting knickknacks in cabinets. The sliding doors to access the toilets (bathrooms to our American friends) is like something from the board game, Cluedo. You almost expect to meet Professor Plum on the other side with a candlestick raised, poised to deliver a deadly blow. 😄
C.
Fantastic coffee! Great service. Very happy.
R.
Amazing place where they put your face on your coffee ☕ and the toilets have star wars figures depicting boys and girls. Whilst you are busy in there you can listen to an audio recording of Harry Potter! But first see if you can find the entrance to the toilets 😄 Gorgeous ambiance, casual, warm, welcoming, intimate but open and friendly. Loved sitting outside in the sun to enjoy our drinks
S.
Great coffee and awesome tube system to deliver food to your table
M.
The fries came out of the pneumatic tubes and water comes out of a sewing machine, Stephen Fry reading Harry Potter in the toilets. What’s not to love??
D.
C1 Is a great cafe with a incredibly unique asthetic and great staff. The food is like no other, there are amazing curly fries that get sent to your table via a postal tube or a lamington with jam that can be injected into it overall c1 is my favorite cafe with a great vibe
K.
Love this place. Quirky and cool. Good food.. excellent coffee. Great place to meet up with friends.
A.
Wonderful friendly staff. Chef brought out my eggs omelette with a welcoming smile. Food is awesome.
Ambience is nice, kids friendly, lots of tables both indoor and outdoor cater for all. Music is slightly medium loud if you're in business conversations here.
Also, check out the water dispenser (sewing machine shaped) which will definitely amused kids and adults.
J.
Very cool and funny cafe, sewing machine water station, food delivery tubes, moving bookshelf door, beautiful toilet, children and kidult will like it a lot!
P.
Very Good Café, and very delicious food, always fresh and nice decorated. Best Café in Christchurch.
R.
We read the reviews with interest and decided to give it a go. The cafe is very neat and very chic. However despite the good range and pretty food presentation we found the breakfast not very flavoursome and they mixed up the ingredients on my partners breakfast. The coffee was good and not burnt which we have found at some other cafes. But rated against other high profile cafes we tried around New Zealand it didn't quite match up
M.
Stopped in for coffee and a small bite from the cabinet range of food. Staff were friendly. The whole vibe of the cafe is energising - you will love your first visit here. They are open late too which is awesome for a cafe.
R.
Really nice Cafe in the city. Tried their delicious candy floss hot chocolate.
G.
Had Salmon eggs benni and a cappuccino. The breakfast was outstanding. I love this quirky Cafe with sewing machine water fountain and secret book case doors. My go to for great coffee.
L.
The the coffee wasn't too flash (both a long black and a flat white) which dashed the hope that drew me in, but the eggs on toast were simple and nice and in its entirety the experience was a good one!
C1 still has some flair left over from the golden days, nice furniture and cute books for kids to draw in, and it helps Alice and Videoland is next door! I think I'd go for the site pressed OJ if I was going with the vibe.
If you're not fussy with your coffee, are flush with cash, and want the Otautahi urban experience its worth it! If you want good coffee head to Lyttelton Coffee Co, and if you want good food head to Portershed, for the same goods a standard Black and White coffee is on par and won't bust the bank :)
B.
Simply love the coffee and brunch here!
T.
Amazing flat whites and cool decor/bathroom/water fountain. They don't know how to make Vietnamese iced coffee though -- they use cold water to run through the coffee instead of hot water.
K.
Food was great, service is okay. Popular spot with the tubes inside, but outdoor seating is the best for a brunch
A.
Nice outside area, good French toast but wasn't so sure about the lemon curd and bacon pieces combo.
P.
Excellent Iced Latte and omelette, great atmosphere, highly recommend.
F.
Great coffee place. Really cozy and has a nice vibe. Decorations and interior design is really unique.
J.
Good coffee, great pneumatically delivered curly fries and awesome staff. Kids got hit chocolates with their faces on!
D.
Brilliant spot. Highly recommend to all. Super quirky interior, but great food and service...loved it
C.
Great coffee and dessert selections. The apple crumble however, doesnt come with enough ice cream for the size of it so you have to pay an extra dollar per scoop. A bit cheeky unless you like dry crumble. Service is ok.
G.
This place is amazing. So glad we came here for breakfast and coffee before a long drive to the glaciers. I went with the Super Choice Bro: it was pretty much a healthier version of a English breakfast and much more delicious. Also, I loved the the eclectic furniture and set up. The water dispenser is a retro sewing machine. The door way to the kitchen is a secret bookshelf. That's how cool this place is.
N.
Very cool. I liked how water comes from sewing machine, how physically full is delivered through tubes and loved searching for toilet. It's fun.
R.
Good food and great coffee. Not many options for people with allergies to fruit as everything has something (pear, apple, etc) in it, even the bottled drinks. Music could have been a little bit quieter but fit the aesthetic. Have loved this place since before the earthquakes.
G.
Great place in ChCh for breakfast or lunch. Plus some food comes out of an elaborate pipe network, which is really cool!
Definitely worth checking it out!
C.
Great food and coffee open until 10pm on weekdays. The reason they don't have 5 stars is that their coffee cups are tiny. A large is a small glass on a saucer. They make a beautiful hot chocolate, shame it was really only 3 mouthfuls! A bit tight perhaps?
A.
So friendly, with good food and coffee a must!!
M.
Genuinely cool experiential eatery. Great coffee. Chocolate raspberry brownie is immense
M.
Great coffee - probably the best we've had in the New Zealand. The had almond, coconut and soy milk as non dairy options. Thumbs up on that! Food was really good, nice staff and the waiting on everything was quite short. Not the busiest night maybe but still. The vegan nachos was our personal favorite - a lot of flavors and the guacamole was to die for (according to me at least).Great spot and close to other places if you want to walk on further for drinks or dessert.
A.
Wed mid afternoon. Busy but not overcrowded. Friendly efficient staff. Good service. Staff all appear to be quietly keeping on task and focused on providing an exceptional dining experience.
The environment is very well put together. Interesting. Quirky. Funky. Wooden cabinets. Old sewing machine water dispenser. Sliding secret doors. Very harmonious and non confronting to the senses.
Great range of healthy and/or delicious food.
S.
As a gluten free diner, I was delighted at the options. I settled on the omelet for breakfast with a pot of tea. No fuss and great service. I was impressed with the bonus leaf tea to take home. I'll be back.
P.
Great place for coffee and awesome interiors .. 🍵☕
D.
Excellent coffee, they also have free sparkling water. I recommend the curley fries especially if you have kids with you. The fries come down a tube to your table. My daughter loved it. Outside seating is also available.
C.
Service was fast and staff friendly. Food and coffee was great.
D.
This place has a great food menu and some really cool options for coffee. It’s a little experimental with some coffees costing well over the average price.
I really enjoyed having breakfast here but this place gets 4 due to a lack of atmosphere. I came on a Monday morning at 10am and sat in the outdoor area. The music for the morning was UK grime, improvements could be made by simply mixing up the music choice instead of playing a whole album of the same art/style.
My favourite song for the morning was “At 4pm I’m going to punch you in the face” really great for chill Monday morning....
Something could be done about the birds too, it was hard to eat while trying to make sure a seagull or sparrow didn’t still my breaky.
V.
The coffee gets 5 stars too. Where it falls down though is in the food. It's not bad. It's good actually but not up to my expectations of a place this cool. The staff were all really pleasant and friendly but a little too eager to clear the tables, this probably isn't so much of an issue when they're busy. All in all, well worth checking out but there are definitely better brunches to be had in ChCh.
A.
Interesting cafe. Great decor, a unique food delivery system for some meals (pneumatic tube) and a cool way to go to the bath room ...behind an automatically opening bookshelf and an old sewing machine converted into a water dispenser! So if you're going for 'the theatre' of food delivery, this may be your place.
Can't comment on the coffee, but the curly fries were hot & fresh though our other meals were on the greasy side. As others have mentioned, meals were a bit pricey for what you get but nice for a once off visit that is a bit different.
T.
Very well presented food and drink, a little overpriced but having the novelty of you food delivered to you by neumatic tube makes up for the price. Lovely outdoor area that's great for people watching in the CBD. The food was great and the white tea I had was divine, would highly recommend both there teas and coffee's. Will definitely go back here again!
B.
Love to coming back again, impressed with the kindly staff and nice coffee.
A.
Absolutely love C1. Super casual dining with quirky features; like sewing machine water coolers and sliding bookcase doors. Go there to chill with friends and family and don't have high expectations of going in for a quick bite. You'll want to take your time, stand in line for 10min to place your order while catching up with your mates, then enjoy your food either indoors or out. Take a chill pill if you're in line for 15min, it's part of the atmosphere.
T.
Second run at the burger and despite this being primarily a cafe, the effort they put into their burgers and the pneumatic tube delivery deserves the attention.
Reminded me a little of a dirty big mac style burger with shredded? iceberg, burger sauce, cheddar, pickles, on a soft fluffy bun.
Really simple / solid burger it didn't disappoint today 4/5
Pros
- Great meat to bun ratio.
- Fresh fried onions on the burger give a bit of a takeaway / fastfood vibe.
- Decent burger sauce
- Perfect curly fries, still crispy and hot in the tube delivery
- Nice soft bun, soaks up the otherwise messy burger
Cons
- Both burgers I've had came out of the pneumatic tube a bit soggy / leaky, and it was pretty messy to eat without a box or plate
- Didn't really notice the gherkins / pickles today but assume they were in there, I guess they were lost in the mix.
S.
It's sooooo quiet in Christchurch at the moment however we've not visited this place in a long time - what a delight it was to come, the coffee was excellant + we chose a Maltese Pastizzi-w/salsa Verde, amazing!!! They have an excellant cabinet that suits all appetites so next time Yr in town y not try them out u won't b dissappointed😉
C.
Unique. Probably the best way to describe this place. Great coffee and staff where super friendly. Why unique? To access the toilets you walk through a book shelf, once inside you select the toilet with your genders Star Wars character while listening to Harry Potter over the speakers. Food is delivered pneumatically (not all good but a fair chunk) water is delivered via old sewing machines and the list goes on. I’ll add one thing, make sure you checkout their menu. Lastly the coffee was good, curly fries where tasty. Nachos where also really good. All in all a good experience!
C.
Impressive shop and the coffee is awesome
They played the Harry Potter audio book in the restroom
R.
Love this place its quirky and fun kids love the food train. I go often when I chch. I do find it kind of dirty though...surfaces are not that clean tiolets need a damn good scrub! But food and coffee is yum 😋
A.
Great retro cafe, very popular amongst those who think they're trendy - walk in and everyone's heads turn! Great coffee, probably the best, and nice small food goods. Didn't try the sliders or larger menu items, and seemed genuinely surprised when I asked for two coffee... (??!?). Never disappoints.
K.
Had lunch here on a Monday and really enjoyed our experience. Fantastic decor in particular the bookshelf which slides out making the bathroom door, and the air tubes which deliver your meals. Food was really tasty and coffee also good. The only strange thing is they don't do trim milk, but based on the number of people visiting doesn't seem to put many off.
J.
Great food and coffee. Loved the vegan option for nachos they were delicious. The place gets very busy and is popular though. Cool gimmicks with the tubes delivering food , water dispensers and bookcase hiding the bathroom. Staff were very friendly
S.
Great experience, good coffee and good food. They mixed up our orders but promptly corrected it.
C.
Fantastic coffee & yummy treats for the plant based person to enjoy. Great fun atmosphere from the tube delivery to the opening bookcase. Such fun watching the delight on people's faces when there curly fries arrive. Always a good vibe.
R.
Man, one of the best coffees in town. Can get really crowded during lunch especially in the weekends.
Their food is above average for CHCH standard. Must try their chips as they are delivered to you by tubes.
They have fancy water “dispensers”, one for still water and another for sparkling water.
If you are a Star War fan, you will like their toilets deco.
Not many on street parking around the cafe as the area is still consider a rebuild zone.
P.
This coffee shop is one of the most unique in the world. First of all, the food and coffee is great (vegan and gf options). The place itself is super cool, it has a lot of interesting things (such as a french fries pipe that goes through the entire restaurant and delivers the fries to your table). Must see in Christchurch.
U.
I really loved it, the cappuccino was great, their eggs on sourdough bread was also great!! please make sure that you add a side of avocado to your eggs, this place is fantastic and also allow for at least 60 minutes to have your breakfast this is not a place that serves quickly
D.
Awesome food awesome coffee and epic style.
Z.
Nice outdoor seating and large indoors. Located close to lots of shops and things to do in the city centre. Can get very busy so lines can be long and it can take a while to get your coffee or food. Food can be delivered via tube system which is pretty cool! Overall a nice place to stop for some quality refreshments in the city.
A.
Great place for food and coffee cool vibes. Coming from wellington it is definitely my kind of scene. Plus the tube delivery system for some foods is very interesting. The chocolate moose is excellent and here is nothing like a good long black from this place. You can also buy coffee here!
V.
Delicious porridge and coffee :) would love to know how they magically know where you’re sitting...
Y.
Great food and drinks. Love the shoots the fries come through
M.
Cute cafe, super lovely staff and some cool and quirky features like a sliding bookshelf door and "caffeinometer" robot. Coffee was good and we ordered breakfast. Sadly a bit overpriced. Meals cost about $20-22 each, but sides were very overpriced! I paid $7 to have a quarter of an avocado added to my meal. A bit of spinach would have set me back another $6.
S.
Pretty busy cafe with delicious cakes, slices and coffee.
E.
Great food options, and just a fun place to be! And if you're not a coffee drinker, they have the best array of tea in town. Treat yourself to a sweet thing from the cabinet or a pipe of curly fries. You won't forget the experience!
N.
While the concept of food bring brought to your table via pneumatic tubes was cool, found the quantity of food to be very little for the price. Not recommended if you're a big eater or if you're hungry. Coffee was good though.
W.
Definitely worth checking out if you are in Christchurch. The coffee was great and there was a nice atmosphere. Lots of attention to small detail. Would love to go back someday!
K.
Really enjoyed the atmosphere, high ceilings and interesting pneumatic delivery system. Service a little flat.
J.
One of my favorite cafes and among the best in the city for high quality coffee and enjoyable atmosphere and music. Staff are also remarkably attentive, quite good at clearing dishes from the table when people are finished eating/drinking.
S.
We like it here - it's a bit too cool for itself sometimes and one of those places where you can't get a simple diet Coke - if you're watching your sugar or just don't like Fentimans, water is the answer. At least it's free! Coffee is great and the famous pneumatic food delivery tubes are fun if you're at a table that has one. Generous portions of curly fries, and the sliders are good.
J.
I ordered a vegan muffin. It was nice. Then I saw the menu and it was very strange. It has quizzes for children in the next pages and then a swear word about a dog . The next pages had reviews, but they are all negative, and believable ,too! E.g.: Overpriced, cold and small portions.
Can I have an explanation for these negative reviews on every single table ,please???
The music was a little loud and ...strange. Yes the weirdest cafe I've ever been to .I only came here because the movie was around the corner .Great location :).
A.
Coffee was average, no table service provided and the whole pneumatic tube thing feels like a gimmick. Food portions are minuscule as they have to fit in the tubes. Cakes looked great but never got a chance to try them. Worth a visit once but wouldn’t bother coming back.
A.
Great iced chocolate & curly fries were awesome
G.
Has great atmosphere and good coffee. Was let down by the fruit salad food order that a very small monkey would have had issue with. Fruit was a little ripe and consisted of 1 and half strawberries, a few berries and some sliced kiwi fruit to make it look more than it was, having been delivered on a unfeasibly large plate. When we provided some gentle feedback on the quality of the dish, it was met with the vacant charm of a village idiot. Not sure I’ll go back. Plenty other good coffee places.
J.
Love this busy and beautiful cafe. The best thing was the customer service. When I mixed up my hot choc order and asked a passing waitress, the staff were only too happy to change the order to what I wanted. Their attitude was super friendly and will love to go back again!
E.
Cool coffee shop located in an old post office. Coffee was good, loads of sweet treats available and free sparkling water was a major plus. Loads of outdoor seating. Big and atmospheric inside.
r.
Great food on the menu and in the counter, Average coffee. Not knocking the baristas, it’s always made with care, it’s just that the coffee tends to be rather bland. I dunno whether it’s your beans or what. Mark it down to personal preference I suppose. The cafe itself has probably one of the best atmospheres for a cafe in Christchurch, the building the beautiful, especially at night. Good choice in music selection. Late night hours are a plus. Staff are excellent. Tea selection is off the charts, and in the collectable boxes? Genius! It tends to be busy in the day, so go at night.
E.
The coffee arrives quickly and is pretty decent. Open late. Unfortunately it's popular with families so avoid peak times if you don't like noisy tots. It's actually a nice cafe space in the late evenings though, when not much else is open.
T.
Nice coffee but not sure what it is with christchurch cafes in general making the assumption that when you ask for a cappuccino you want chocolate on top. This place is no exception. If we wanted a mocha we would ask for one but every customer should bed asked if they want cinnamon or chocolate on.
As regards to service quality....it seems to vary depending on the nature of the individual. The food is beautiful however .
허.
The unique features of the tube delivery is eye catching. However the food taste is...something that needs to be reconsidered. Just too untasteful. Fortunately the coffee tasted good. So if you're going for a coffee...than it would be fine. But for the Brunch menu on weekends? Reconsider.
O.
This is such a cool place. Loved the vibe and the decor - from the secret bookcase door, to the delivery tubes, to the pinball machines, right down to having the Harry Potter audio book playing in the bathrooms. I had the vegan southern style cauliflower waffles which was so great! Lots of yummy looking cabinet items too. Will definitely be back next time I'm in town!
M.
It's a cute and unique place to have your favorite coffee. Food is good too.
d.
Lots of good reviews here already but I feel compelled to pile on top. The space is awesome - huge square open ceiling and massive outdoor garden so heaps of different options depending on your mood and group size. I went for the table closest to the mechanical rocking horse. Staff - energetic and genuine. Interesting quirk, kitchen staff serve the food - I like the ownership aspect of that.
Food, excellent, I had the mushroom Benedict with wait for it... kale chips... and hash browns- no pesky bread taking up space on this plate.
I woke up vaguely on the wrong side of the bed this morning, all sorted now - thanks C1e
S.
Exceptional coffee. Was super busy both times I was there. Friendly staff. Parking can be a nightmare at the weekends
J.
Great place to take the kids! Make sure you get the hot chocolate with your picture on them! So cool, and tastes great!
L.
My kids love this place. The curly fries that comes through the pneumatic system always amazes them and me. Food and coffee always great here also. Alway a good atmosphere with retro pinball machines
B.
Food here is good, if a little on the pricey side. I felt a little let down about the air shoots. It would only carry capsules of fries. The atmosphere is airy and relaxed, and I loved the bookcase sliding door to the toilets. Toilets were a let down. Very untidy. I was however doing my business to the audio book of Harry Potter, playing over the speakers.
E.
Cafe with a twist. Engineering students loved the lamson tubes... a very novel way of getting your food delivered.
Only downside was it was a bit dimly lit (hard to read the menu) and the upholstery on the chairs were ripped
Y.
Their atmosphere and customer service was great however my coconut cheesecake was so not yummy. Too much nuts and coconut. I didn't think it was a cheese cake. It wasn't sweet enough to have with a cup of tea. So overall, great for drink and lunch, not great for afternoon tea.
C.
Awesome eatery with very cool interior. Love the food specially if you are gluten free... their sweet food is too die for! My only complaint would be the toilets didn't look like had been cleaned in a while
C.
Amazing food! Totally recommend the smashed pumpkin on toast. To die for!
F.
My daughter and I love it here. Great vibe and history, love the sliding bookcase door and the curly fries delivered by pneumatic overhead see through pipes. A must visit, and yes the coffee is great! Also visit Alice Video store and old time theatre next door.
J.
C1 has a great range of food with unique flavour combinations. Prices are on the high side but you do get quality ingredients and know that your food has been well made. The meals are fresh and full of flavour! Coffee is great and staff are friendly and prompt.
The cafe is cleverly decorated with amazing lighting and has some very interesting pipes all over the roof and walls where burgers and chips get delivered to your table I am told! Something to try next time.
The Iced Mocha I ordered recently was very chocolatey, almost too much so, I think vanilla or coffee ice cream would have balanced out the sweetness better. Also not sure about the floaty, chewy lollies in the drink. For $8 i'd expect something great.
Will definitely be going back for burgers from pipes and some cabinet food in future.
J.
Really cool old building with interesting fixtures and fittings, and good coffee too.
D.
Ok, so this place is totally amazing. It it's a very social and fun place to visit, with really helpful and inclusive staff. It's whole layout it's very quirky and eccentric with things like singer sewing machines for water fountains and a slid - away book case which reveals clean toilets and a book being read aloud thru the speakers. But, to save the best to last, the most obvious and amazing feature is the mail tubes used to deliver the sliders and curly fries. Another thing, is that the coffee here are totally worth it. They come looking very master chef and amazing and they taste like it too. But this place is not just for adults, it does banger hot chocolates and other kid friendly foods. In CONCLUSION, this place is definitely one of the best things do visits and do in Christchurch so make sure you head that way. Thanks. 😲🌮🌯🥙🌭🍟🍕🎂🍪🍰🍫🍮🏺🔪🥄🍴

Great food with high quality choices, good coffee, vibrant atmosphere, love the pneumatic food delivery. Curly fries are the best. Can be quite busy - but thats a good sign. While the service has been slightly subpar on one occasion, I do recall that day that is was exceptionally busy and the staff were stretched thin.
A.
Just had Salmon Benedict. Outstanding. Heaps of smoked pulled salmon. Love the hollandaise. Friendly staff. I would have given a 5 but found the music an interesting choice. Rap was blaring which didn't fit with the more mature clientele who were having to lean in to hear what their lunch partners were saying. Would have been understandable if the place was full of rap enthusiasts. Will be back.
E.
Food was pretty good. Eggs a bit over done.
Staff at the counter were a bit grumpy and then floor staff a little over excited with clearing reaching over people who are still eating to clear plates. This happened more than once. Be nice if they just waited for the table to finish and clear the whole lot at one.
D.
We've been to C1 on a Saturday which probably wasn't ideal. It's been very crowded, kids running around, dirty restrooms. You need to stand in a queue to place your order, and you need to wait for your items quite some time afterwards.
They have done pretty neat nerd stuff standing around (which is great!).
Food was good, but too expensive. Coffee was good but only average quality for Christchurch (there are plenty of cafe options).
K.
Hands down out favourite brunch spot in Chch, we always take guests here and they are never disappointed. Also, the curly fries get delivered through the pneumatic tubes and who needs any more encouragement than that to order fries for breakfast!? This place gets really busy so go around 9:30 or wait until closer to 11 I think.
E.
Superb cafe in the city of Christchurch with super nice ambient including designer menu and music. Order Eggs Benedict and a Mocha, which were both beyond the average standard and very very tasty. Staff is really friendly. Some cakes can be delivers in a very stylish pneumatic tube system directly to your table. The toilets are unique. They are hidden behind a secret bookshelf entry and feature toilets that include the sink. Hard to describe, you must see it for yourself. ON the toilets they play Harry Potter audio play. Highly recommended to visit this place.
H.
ThumpUp amazing place great tea and sweet you must visit
p.
Great food and coffee with happy helpful staff. Wonderful old building renovated beautifully with lovely playful twists. The kids love the curly chips delivered by air tubes which fly around roof to our table
A.
Good food, good service only downside is that it is a little cramped inside
Y.
This place is packed. Having said that their operation is smooth and efficient. Love the smiles even when it's super busy. Their menu is unique with interesting flavors. The downside is the coffee. The shot was flat and very under extracted. Sad to see the lack of consistency for a shop with Espresso on its name.
A.
Quite a nice place for weekday lunch, however the french toast portion was very small. Curly fries delivery system is pretty cool!
Not baby friendly as there is no change table.
M.
Definitely a novelty cafe full of quirks and odd deco. Really fun, especially for tourists! Not the world's best coffee (although it's not bad), prices are pretty steep, and music is pretty loud.
J.
I like here. Great coffee in here.
And I think send meal way is special and interesting.
Waitress were kind and friendly. And meal was very quickly and delicious.
I want to go here again and try another meals.
R.
Lovely place - great decor! Had the best lemon slice there! Drinks are small but adequate. Very happy to recommend.
Z.
People here are friendly, the coffee here is amazing and the cafe provides the fresh baked coffee beans made by C1 every morning. Best place to catch up with friends or u can all by urself enjoying the music and comic books there. Open till 10pm. Located in city and it’s a pretty cool place! The banoffe pie is awesome, good to have a try.
S.
Lovely staff, cool and different set up.
Fast and nice tasting takeaway coffee,
central location and was buisy which is always a good sign. Nice and clean tables, didn't use the bathroom but looked cool entrance to it.
recommend googling wilsons parking or something before going so you know You can get a park.
P.
Beef burger and Fish chips were excellent. Very good atmosphere.
E.
Very tasty dirty chai latte and turmeric latte. The people working were helpful and always with a big smile. They also have really cool tubes throughout so you can order food that will be sent via the tube system, super cool.
C.
Good coffee (had a single origin chemex and also a flat white - both good even by NZ standards).
Breakfast burrito was good but perhaps too many black beans!
Very friendly staff and a cool vibe (and decor) too.
S.
Great sliders and curly fries! Decor is fantastic and comes down mail tubes!
J.
Absolutely lovely place. This place is full of experiences, unusual things and not to forget, good coffee! Amazing vibe and relax environment. Staff is really friendly and the food is really good. Would love to visit again!
G.
Take your kids here for a burger. Good fun. Find the water! Find the loos! Best coffee, great service- really great. Lovely outdoor area. Go there and count mayors and ex mayors of Christchurch. It's the place to be.
T.
Great atmosphere & enjoyed the quirks. Love the fact there’s both still & sparkling water in offer. The service was ok although servers shouldn’t assume everyone knows how things work - if you’re quirky you might need to explain things to out-of-towners.
The food was good but lacked any semblance of seasoning. Adding a little salt during the cooking process would have made this an excellent experience. We were also disappointed not to be able to eat outside as there was no shades. Not ok in the ‘bitey’ NZ sun.
M.
Top spot. Good coffee and food with a wide range of nutritive baking, although a tad pricey. Worth visiting for the decor, between sci-fi flying tubes, sewing machine dispensing water and flippers with a touch of Japanese manga on the walls.... and freaky voice-overs in the toilet.... it's quite a cool place.
J.
Very cool cafe! Went there for coffee and cake, and both were done well.
Was disappointed that their machine that prints a picture of your choice on top of your coffee wasn't working, but the friendly service and good atmosphere made up for that.
B.
Had a late lunch with a friend and found the food to be great. I was a little disappointed that you can't get flavour shots with your coffee. A neat feature is that if you sit inside and order certain food, it is delivered to your table via air tubes.
C.
Had a meeting here a couple weeks back, fantastic environment and interesting this place is open late.
This will be my regular spot when I'm in Christchurch.
Staff are fantastic.
Highly recommend.
N.
It's very Bauhaus! It's just amazing. The wait staff know where you are without you having to tell them. You simply place your order at the counter, pay and walk away. You do not receive a place number on a stick to put on your table. Your pneumatic meal appears at the nearest cylinder drop off to you. Otherwise, the wait staff appear at your table with your order. They have a sewing machine repurposed as a water fountain. It's just so wonderful! They sell their loose leaf teas in packs of two in a matchbox so you can use one half at the cafe and take the second half away to enjoy at a later time. Their selection of teas is just astounding! It's my go to cafe when I'm in Christchurch! The locals might treat it as normal but for someone coming from anywhere else it's like being in the cartoon "The Jetsons"!
P.
Great decor, tasty desserts, friendly staff.
J.
Very fancy coffee cafe which serves filtered coffee (a first I've seen in NZ in nearly 2 weeks). Prices are slightly on the high side but worth checking it out for the interesting interior and bathroom.
S.
I always bring visitors to Christchurch here! Such a cool dining experience and there is always something new to try. A bit expensive for a long black but worth it for the nice setting. There are great vegan and vegetarian options too!
K.
Possibly the best salmon eggs bene I've ever had. Have to recommend the affogato too - but it's worth visiting just for the experience! It's such a neat experience receiving your food via the pneumatic tubes straight from the kitchen to your table!
F.
I love this place! Yeah, there is no longer as much room for the pinball machines, but the essence of the old C1 on high street still lives on! Great memories formed here. This leaves me with high expectations every time I walk in the doors, but thankfully those hopes are almost always met and exceeded.
G.
The door that’s a bookcase, the chips delivered via pneumatic tubes and the other quirky decor make it worth a visit. The prices are a tad steep but the food tastes great. There is a tricky puzzle as to how to get at the chips delivered via the pneumatic tube from their container. And how do they know to send the food via the tube nearest to where you are sitting?
K.
We loved the imagination used to create this unique environment. The food and service (delivery)along with a fun vibe made this a memorable eat in. You can see how this cafe could become an icon eatery of the new inner city.
A.
Great eggs on hash, music back to chilled. Staff seem happier....must be the new owners and will be back.....nice job
G.
Great place, cool and funky vibes. Really enjoyed breakfast food too. Story about the building and it's history is cool too as well as what the operators are trying to do for Christchurch. Would visit here again. Only downside was they weren't open on New Years day or the public holiday
H.
Staff are great ... consistently friendly and professional. Love the quirky extras ... cold water dispensers made from dentist's basins, secret sliding door to bathrooms where Harry Potter is played on audio speakers. Keep in mind burgers delivered by pneumatic tubes are not available from morning till night ... but chips are. Great vibe and v popular with locals and tourists. Free CCC WiFi.
T.
Impressed with the coffee! Had to come back to order the sliders and curly frys delivered via tube!
f.
Breakfast was very good...Coffee not as good as it was previously. The only place I've come across in Christchurch that doesn't have 'trim/skinny/green milk and this is my preference. I also wasn't so pleased paying extra for a 'double shot', it reminded me of Auckland and I'd been happy to have standard regular double shots everywhere else I've been to in Christchurch
J.
A speciality coffee shop in an old and well refurbished building.
Nice interior design experience!
Really good beans and amazing milk for an excellent cappuccino.
One of the best coffee experience around!
J.
Open nice and early. Great atmosphere in really cool old building. Food and coffee was great and unique. Toilets really cool with sliding book case door, Harry Potter audiobook on the loud speaker in the toilet as very unique.
C.
We thought we would do a little research before going down loaded menu and prices, as it was for a birthday and with so many choices in Christchurch are options are bountiful.
The food was certainly prepared and presented well but alas the online menu did not match the actual menu or price list!!
Please update!
J.
Amazing coffee and food, but the food is in small portions, which for the price you pay I disagree with. However it is good so would recommend if you can afford to splurge a bit (I still go there at least once a month, 😅😅)
E.
Nice atmosphere, cool decorations and touches (audio books playing in the toilets). A bit expensive and the coffee provided for a Chemex brew was roasted to highly for a soft filter brew method in my opinion. There were also a couple of obvious omissions from the menu such as a regular Hot Chocolate and a Mocha.
D.
Great food and atmosphere, really interesting decor with props. The toilet is accessed thru a secret door hidden in a bookcase ! Great food delivery system via tubes in the ceiling. No table number system , they find you by 'Magic' :) really fun place.
B.
Lovely atmosphere. I come here a bit. However disappointed I couldn't get a half serving of eggs benedict. I only wanted one egg and nothing on the menu has only one. I don't like waste but two is to much food for me. The explanation was that if I had one they would have to charge me the same and that wasn't right... Most cafes I go to give me half servings and just charge a little less. Anyway I still enjoyed the experience overall. But next time I want eggs bene I will go somewhere else.
z.
Very cool place for coffee and eats. Very quirky with some unique features like hidden bookshelf toilets, food served to your table via tubes. Is a little more expensive than most cafes and often busy but worth a visit
J.
The staff are kind and efficient, the cabinet food is stunning and creative, the menu had many options including Paleolithic and Gluten free......but my favorite thing the bottomless soda water tap :)
Also worth trying is a coconut charcoal latte, delish!
E.
Fantastic place to take the family. Try the fries or the hot chocolate or coffee with your picture printed on the top.
V.
I've been visiting this cafe almost every day from over a year now. This place has most beautiful vibes, location and coffee. And cherry on top, they have amazingly friendly staff.
N.
Really funky place that is great for families or for hanging out with friends, coffee etc. The new slider menu was great. I'm vegetarian and the cauliflower ones are a must! Make sure you get 2 of those ;) The wait was a bit long and service ok. We asked where our burgers were and the young girls didn't get back to us but they arrived shortly after. Free soda water from dentist thing is awesome! Raw deserts look amazing but was too full to try them! Cabinet food is really fast and lots of options. Also toilets are very cool, def try them out, audio books, sliding bookcase door etc. Also right next to Alice's check it out and my daughter loves the old fashioned horse ride thing :)
T.
I ordered sliders and they arrived in a high-speed tube to my table. You can't beat that. (Evening menu only)
A little "expensive," but not really, and 100% worth the novelty. Sure you can find sliders for cheaper elsewhere, but they won't come in a tube! with fries! And they were delicious. Also - do go to the toilets.
Also came back for morning brunch. Food did not arrive in a tube but was certainly delicious. They also do great coffee here.
A.
Great staff, great coffee.
R.
Decent atmosphere and im a big fan of the curly fries!! however as a cafe, its core product (coffee) is pretty rubbish. Side note - whats up with places serving coffee in glasses?
B.
What a cool cafe. They have vacuum tubes for delivering your curly fries, old school pin ball machines and vegetables growing in the planter boxes outside. Plenty of room for groups and amazingly, I could hear my friend without shouting!
C.
such a cool spot! coffee is wonderful too. one day i spent a long time studying here a few years ago, and enjoyed every minute :)
E.
This is a must see for any cafe-goers (a popular trend in New Zealand). This is a unique cafe that delivers an experience alongside good food that can only be truly expressed in person. This is one place you must stop by, even if you don't intend to eat or drink (but why let the fun stop at the experience, try the sliders!).
R.
C1 is an institution in Christchurch. Their pneumatic tubes whiz food to the tables and a great selection of coffees and teas are brought promptly to the tables by friendly staff.
The breakfast bagel makes for a great wakeup after a long night and has revived me and friends a few times!
If you're getting coffee they have a great selection of single origins roasted in store. Check the bottom of the bags for the roast date, however most of their roasts seem to lie on the darker side. So if you like lighter roasts maybe ask in store or look elsewhere.
M.
New staff , management, and attitudes. Good to see. Will be frequenting c1 again . Coffee back to a good standard as well.
M.
Excellent ambience and interior decorations, interesting concept of food serving and a wide variety of desserts and beverages.
D.
Funky cafe centrally located. They roast their own coffee beans.
It’s a nice spot. Pneumatic tube delivery for some food which is great for kids (check the hours on their website)
K.
Probably one of the coolest cafe that exist. I came for dinner and had 3 sliders + fries for $20. About 15 minutes later, our dinner arrived in a cannister using the pneumatic system. The whole food theatrics was entertaining and made the experience special. The mechanics of the whole cafe was brilliantly crafted. From the sliding bookshelf, arcAde machines and cool sewing-machine-water dispenser. I would definitely come back again for the experience.
J.
The aestectics were very pleasing, your eye kept on wandering of to view the whole premise. The tea is served in two portions with a tea pot, which means one is used at the café and the other you can take home and it was for a reasonable price
P.
It's a fun awesome quirky place. Great for anyone that's isn't in a grump.... Enjoy the hidden door to the toilets, the vacuum tube delivery system and fun food. If you are expecting a same same cafe-you are wrong
I.
Loved the funkiness of the place, add great food and coffee and it is perfect. You order from the counter and they deliver the food to your table, don't go if you are in a rush... The place is for relaxing
M.
Great spot to catch up with others in the evening and sample good conversation and great food 👌
S.
Lovely breakfast burrito. Cappuccino a little flat, but good otherwise
T.
Great staff, Awesome spot for breakfast
M.
The staff need to get coached on attitude, some smiles and welcome would be good. They should be slightly more explanatory of the concept. Burgers are better than average.
D.
I've visited C1 a few times for breakfast when in Christchurch. The food is reasonably priced and very tasty. Staff are friendly. The pneumatic tubes are a cool touch, but breakfast foods aren't delivered that way! Decent coffee but cups are a little small.
J.
Yummy food and great outdoor setting. I love that they have their own culinary garden in the middle of the city! Also the Harry Potter like quirks of the cafe are awesome!
J.
Great place to sit down and get some work done. Food to be honest was just average, coffee was great tho best one I have had in a while from anywhere with almond milk
C.
I love this place! Who doesn't love working pneumatic tubes (when you order a slider, you pick it up through the tubes!), and a sneaky location for bathrooms (tip: it's behind the bookshelf)!
Their staff is friendly and their food is delicious! It's worth the price and the interior is so well done!
K.
Good selection of food and beverages. Quirky and fun interior. Try ordering food to be delivered through the pneumatic tubes or just have a glass of water poured from an old sewing machine. Toilets are at the back thorugh the bookcase. Always quite crowded, worth the wait once.
n.
Love the coffee -Coconut Latte is highly reccomended(although a large size is what you would expect a small to be generally!)and the ambience is superb ,the tube delivery system and the caffeine level testing machine adds to the fun!
L.
I really dug this café, though I will say, I did initially feel like I was nowhere near the end of the “hip & cool” spectrum you might need to be on to eat here. The space is very quirky contemporary and I think it might have been a bank or something previously because there are vacuum tubes incorporated in the décor throughout. They did a great job of repurposing antique items and a walk around the café is highly recommended to discover some of these repurposed items.
They have a great menu concept and their coffee drinks vary from the usual suspects to works of art (the ice coffee has ice cream, marshmallows, and a choc-covered Swedish fish). I had the breakfast burger and it was beyond delicious! You definitely pay for what you get, so be warned you will drop some bank here, but between the ambiance, quality, and just fun-ness of the novelty, it is well worth it! The staff was quite nice as well and seem to be used to getting people who are new to their menu and ordering concept. It is counter service and open seating.
I would definitely come back for the bfast burger and ice coffee alone!
H.
Great atmosphere and food. Coffee is tops. Can be pretty busy and have a bit of a wait but that's just an indication of how good it is. Sit outside and enjoy the sun or sit inside and love the really unique interior.
J.
Nice staff. VERY expensive wine. One glass charged at the supermarket BOTTLE price.
Cabinet food average. No salad!!! on the side, in the middle of summer.
Probably not a must return.
R.
Great coffee, tasty food, including a number of vegetarian options (largely ‘comfort food’ style) as well as meat etc options. Very cool quirky space.
K.
Awesome quirky little cafe. Enjoyed my soy Iced mocha with dairy free ice cream. Neat little cafe I'll definitely be back when I'm back in Christchurch.
Ps the little fly joke ha ha enough said
k.
Delicious food and great environment! The pneumatic tubes were so cool! Unfortunately, right after I took my burger out of the tube a busboy came by and tried to throw it away.
M.
Great café and very popular with the locals. Unless things have changed, they don't do trim milk for your coffee as they believe it ruins the flavour. Pretty passionate about coffee. There's a door at the back that goes straight through to Alice in Videoland, so if you're having a hard time deciding on a movie, grab a coffee, have a sit down, and have a good think. It's an important decision.
S.
Fantastic cafe and a must visit in Christchurch. Order something from the pneumatic menu and see your food come to you through tubes on the roof. Go to the toilet through a hidden door behind a sliding bookcase and listen to Stephen Fry read Harry Potter to you. Get drinking water from a sewing machine. Read the menu/magazine that changes often but can include gems such as bad reviews of the cafe and connect the dots pictures. What more do you want?
A.
Fantastic cafe! Staff were really friendly, cool old school decor and vibe going off here. We came to get Chai's and some Beetroot slice it was really quite nice! The place is buzzing at night which is good to see!
M.
Pretty funky place. Love the hidden bathrooms.
S.
Always awesome. Great staff, great atmosphere. I went to Australia for 4 years, when I came back the owner recognized me and asked me where I had been for so long. Cannot rate this Cafe higher!!
R.
Awesome cafe to eat at, brilliant service, and you can get your food delivered by a pneumatic tube...
Great coffee....
Has a sliding bookcase door.
9 star.... all round awesomeness
F.
Was a cool place to visit. The service was quick and the ambience was bustling. The only reason I gave it 4 stars was because they had the music on too loud, so it was hard to hear what I was trying to say to my friend. Either than it was a cool place to visit.
g.
Very good ambiance from what used to be an old bank. The breakfast and coffee are very good. Order the fries, and watch them come to you on an old deposit tunnel. Warning it can be very packed on the weekend, but for a good reason!
N.
Mediocre . no flavour shots for coffee. The poached eggs were perfect though but the bacon belly substitute in big breakfast was tough and ordinary. The establishment itself is nice
C.
Great muffins and coffee, quirky fun cafe. Nice indoor or outdoor seating options.
L.
Super creative cafe with great food. Highly recommend the pneumatics meals where you get food delivered by tubes to your table. Can be a little pricey at times, otherwise pretty reasonable.
N.
I love their curly fries, it can fascinate everyone!! Great friendly service too :)
S.
Possibly the best coffee in Christchurch. The latte that I had here was smooth and creamy. A true must have for all coffee lovers. Also there cabinet food selection is delicious
E.
The quintessential Christchurch institution since always. But on a first visit in couple of years, I found the prices higher, the food slightly less inspired, and the cold cross-breeze created by having doors on either side of the cafe to be irksome. Coffee is as good as ever, mind you.
A.
Got to be my favorite Cafe in Christchurch city, I normally go every time I'm down and I pick up a bag of their coffee beans to take home! The curly fries are a must.
H.
A very interesting and unique place with special pipes for delivery of certain menu items. The whole place has a kind of steampunk feel to it. I find the food a bit pricey though. $6 for a slice.. no thanks.
N.
Quirky spot, has some really good selections in the cabinet as well as the menu. Coffee was really good and the outdoor seating very lovely. The service from the blonde lady was slightly bland
B.
“The home of terrible Trip Advisor reviews” for a reason (to an extend).
D.
The best coffee comes in moderation and that's what C1 serves, the best coffee.
P.
The Southern style waffle is to die for! The cauliflower was deep fried just right with that amazing sriracha maple syrup!! Awesome vibe going on here with pneumatic delivery system which creative and fun :)
W.
Not sure how a small portion of people give this place negative reviews. Fast service even when they are extremely busy, excellent food and awesome coffee. Their $4 muffins are top notch. Good value for money
H.
Absolutely awesome to have a place that has amazing food and coffee and welcomes and provides equally excellent service and food for kids. Kids had a blast with curly fries delivered through the pneumatic tubes and the iced mint chocolates.
J.
C1 is a great place to meet work colleagues or to catch up with friends. Delicious drinks, efficient service, all under and within their crazy network of vacuum tubes. Highly recommended.
K.
Your food arrived via pneumatic tubes! Do you need any more reason to go?! The sliders are nice, however quite expensive for just three but I guess you're paying for the pneumatic tube experience. On this occasion, the staff I encountered weren't overly friendly.
F.
This place is for people who like good music from pre 2010, good food and are intelligent enough to find the toilet and water fountain. Best bathroom soundtrack ever. My kind of people!
F.
What a super fun place! Great for the kids and the kids at heart. Friendly efficient service, nice and quick, great food. Lots of cool things to see and do - the unique food delivery service is amazing!
T.
Busy place but very good coffee ☕️
M.
Very cool coffee shop in the middle of downtown Christchurch. Coffee beverages are a bit pricey for the size of them, but they are quality. The atmosphere inside the coffee shop is very unique.
J.
A beautiful place. They have "mini garden" outside the cafe.
They serve good hot chocolate and coffee.
Send the fries with the pipe which is very cool.
Definitely will come back.
M.
Best short black... And yummy food. Great place.
N.
Amazing food and coffee. Both brunch and dinner options are good. Who wouldn't want their burger delivered via pneumatic tubes travelling at over 100km/ph?
D.
Friendly staff, good coffee, a ton of dietary options. Good crowd and a funky bathroom. Customer service is really good but I didn't go at a peak time.
J.
Such a cool vibe and selection of food on the menu. Really enjoyed it and the small freebies the staff gives you. Will definitely return for a follow up visit!
A.
Unique atmosphere, good food and great coffee. Feels like it would be at home amongst trendy Melbourne cafe's. Well worth the visit.
K.
Trendy and full of character backed up with delicious food and coffee
G.
Average big breakfast here this morning.Well over poached eggs and both our meals luke warm.Good Coffee and the cabinet food looks amazing.
L.
Pneumatic tube slider and fries service. Very quirky cafe. Food taste great and there is also a cabinet of food if you prefer not to have the sliders from the pneumatic tube. Great tea and coffee selection aswell
E.
Great place to chill by yourself or with a group, limited food options at times, but very extensive drink selection with a very unique food delivery system everyone has to try at least once in their lives. Warm and relaxed atmosphere.
D.
Food ans coffee were great. Would come again
p.
Great place to order coffee and relax. The food delivery by pneumatic tube is very original and fun. Bathroom is located behind a 'secret' door. Plus food and drink quality was good.
H.
Food is delivered through tubes automatically to your table using the old post office system! You burger & fries arrive in a little cylindrical space-pod. Tasty and great fun :)
