Reviews of Copenhagen Bakery
R.
Have to say I was disappointed today, brought 3 of the vanilla bean custArd squares the morning of the 14 of Feb for Valentine’s Day and had kept them in the fridge all day, after leaving them out for a wee bit to make them slightly warmer we tucked in. To find that the pastry was chewy and a darker brown than normal, tasted like the pastry had been over cooked….. the last time I brought these was before the quakes when they were in town, very noticeable reduction in custard as well but the overcooked pastry was very disappointing. Looked fine, tasted ok but the pastry wasn’t the best.
a.
Brought a pie and chocolate eclairs. The jam in the chocolate eclairs was to much for me and it was mainly on one side if they had it on top it would be easier for me to take it out but this is my preference only . Both were good , service was great aswell. It always seems to be busy here everytime we pass by. Yes I would go back here again.
K.
Great place to find really good treats (not that obvious in NZ ;). A bit on expensive side, overall great experience.
S.
Lovely bread and European plus NZ treats on offer. Probably the best bakery in Christchurch. Only ever been disappointed twice. Once when they stopped selling my favourite treat, the roast veg and chic calzone and the overly oily carrot cake muffin/cup cake. The carrot cake was so oily it stuck to my fingers and you could taste the oil. Apart from that this bakery is divine.
r.
Honestly amazing. Went there for breakfast and ended up leaving with takeaways for lunch as well. Will definitely visit again before leaving Christchurch. Personal faves were the chicken satay roll and the egg and bacon croissant.
I.
Great food and good service. Easy parking off the street if you’re in a vehicle and also we’re really looking forward to the cycle lane when it goes in. Will make it heaps easier to stop and grab a quick bite when we’re going past on our bikes. Copenhagen Bakery will become more like a bakery in Copenhagen :-)
F.
You should visit Copenhagen bakery. It is a experience in Christchurch. They are award winning bakers and it shows. But get in early rhwy do sell out. I tried a steak and cheese pie, there were big chunks of steak, a thick savoury gravy and the party was buttery and crisp. Definitely a must see.
A.
Maybe the best bakery in town. This place has the right to be called "bakery", unlike most of others. Stepping in, (and I am Italian, so yeah, I know a big deal of what an actual bakery looks and, most of all, smells like) makes you feel in a right place, something you feel being rare in nz as you step into any so-called bakery. Food is, overall, a pro. It feels you are in a bar/bakery at home. As cons, the huge one is the day off and opening time. This is a bar, why is Sunday their day off? People get breakfast even on Sunday... And closing every day at 4.30pm? Don't people go out for a hot chocolate at night? I also just found out they close during holiday... Why? People get breakfast even, especially, when it's holiday...!! Another con: not much variety of pastry... besides the almond croissants, there is basically nothing else.... and the almond croissant itself is not particularly good. Lastly, the price, not particularly convenient. Anyway, still recommend!!
T.
Stopped by to pick up some lunch on the way to the airport. An amazing selection of food. The almond croissant was the biggest I've seen in my travels. There was a selection of gluten free food, so we both went away happy.
L.
Beautiful delicious food, fast service, spotlessly clean. Best pies in Christchurch. Love the selection of rolls. Wonderful flavours.
m.
Love to visit sometime. Nice ☕ and bread 🍞 selection and 🎂. Quite busy. Better to take out. Can't really easy to chat with friend. :)
A.
Longstanding Christchurch cafe.
Spacious, good food & drink options.
Biscuits always a good option as gifts & to take home - even more so at Xmas.
Not cheap, but reasonable given the quality.
J.
Superb pastries and top of the world sweets.
A.
We ordered two cakes for an event. One blackforest gateau, one lemon cream roulade. Asked specifically if we could order blackforest gateau without cherries, explained we had one in the party on the autism spectrum who would not eat a cake with fruit bits. Sorry to say we got a cake with cherries, both inside and out. The cakes were fine but considering this was an expensive order, I'm disappointed our wishes were ignored.
R.
The best Black Forest cake I’ve come across so far - it’s been a family favourite for years!
c.
Wow! Everything is perfect!! I love there.
E.
Lively food, lovely service. Only issue, my hot choc was a tad cool for my liking.
J.
Always a treat awaits and it never disappoints. Looking forward to my next visit.
C.
Always good food but way to busy and people really not adhereing to social distancing this time we in there which was disappointing
I.
Both a great bakery and cafe. The baked goods are delicious and the coffee experience is nice and relaxed. It feels quite professional on top of that, which adds to making the experience unique in a nice way.
p.
It's a great bakery . What more can I say . Parking is very close . Food is fresh and there's always a great selection .. prices are reasonable too
A.
Best carrot cake ever
Nice and quick service
N.
Amazing bakery with so many options 😍 ordered a matcha green tea latte, sausage roll & berry cheesecake which was delicious!
c.
Great food. Helpful friendly staff.
M.
Wow! If you love baked treats you have to visit whenever you can because you’ll want to try everything!
M.
I cycle past this bakery to get to work. It's dark, sometimes the visibility is very low, motorists including buses are in a rush, customers are swinging doors. If anyone is going to die on their bike down Harewood Road, outside of this bakery is the spot.
G.
Great selection of food and drinks. Staff helpful and friendly.
S.
Nice food and coffee. Cafe itself bit old look.
S.
Fantastic bakery / cafe to visit. Awesome coffee, everytime I've been there. The bakery goods are old style, not full of rubbish ingredients. The only disappointment well be missing out out when you go late for your bread. Enjoy
J.
Copenhagen made a Black Forest birthday cake for me. It was one of the best cakes I have tasted. Would highly recommend.
C.
Had a GREAT tasting sausage roll. Plenty of choices for sweet and savoury options. A very popular location.
J.
Friendly staff. Good variety of food!
A.
Great service, tasty food, delicious coffee. Had a long black, a bacon and potato frittata with a great little salad on the side
M.
Excellent coffee and melt-in-mouth croissant!
Z.
Excellent food stop, tasty filled rolls etc and superb pastries and treats 👍
B.
This is one of the best cafes in Christchurch with great selection of snacks and meals for all tastes. Very busy place and very popular at any time.
S.
Really a great place to enjoy coffee, Croissant and other baked delicacies. Helpful staff and good ambience.. Must visit regularly. :)
J.
Really great bakery well worth a short bus ride out of city centre. The additional charge for credit card purchases (below $20) is disappointing, but seems common on South Island. Limited WiFi...why??....otherwise, would be a good location for digital nomads.
E.
My sister in Boston arranged for Copenhagen Bakery to make and deliver to my home a tiramisu cake as well as a spinach quiche (for my birthday). Both were delicious and the home delivery was very impressive. Thank you!
A.
Excellent food freshly made, hand crafted breads baked fresh, hot pies and other goodies ready to go, fresh sandwiches and rolls, coffee, and treats
Only downfall is the parking but the food is so good you dont care
D.
Very busy but excellent food and service
j.
Wow !! Amazing place with so much food . It was hard to decide on all the yummy selections... They make their own fresh breads and Cakes for celebrations . Lovely staff keen to help especially for someone who couldn't decide. Totally recommend for all age groups. Can't wait to go back.
K.
Love this bakery. As a small child my mother use to take us to Copenhagen bakery when it was a small shop down Manchester street Christchurch for small bread rolls to make lunch. Just tasted their hot cross buns sourdough, no pre mix used. I can see why they were awarded a prize for these spicy buns. Check it out guys support your local community bakery
K.
In a word I have to say FANTASTIC! Fortunately I'm only a stone throw from Copenhagen and almost every day it's like a magnet dragging me there screaming!! The bread are to die for and all sweet stuff is enough to send me to Weight Watchers!! But who cares we pay the price for good food. So keep up the great work, I'll be banging the doors down when they reopen for 2019!!
M.
I expressly came from the city centre to try the pies and the pastries. Damn guys ! You have a hell of a good team over there ! Worth the drive and I would even say worth the trip if you don’t stop in Christchurch ! Thank y’a all for this gorgeous moment ! Big thumbs up 👍🏻👍🏻
C.
Super busy, but quick service and great product. Staff really friendly as well!
A.
A wonderful experience. Superb Pastries, cakes, pies. Perhaps two coffee machines? But all in all incredibly busy cos its the best place so I dont mind waiting if I have to. Wonder if you were able to close the driveway and had tables under the old porch? Al fresco?
Oh my Goodness, did someone say it used to be something else? Yes it was, a petrol station then a cabinet makers. My daughter and I love your food as do most of the five star B&B's around town. Saves them cooking, haha. Time to get your paintings up and improve the already lovely decor.
L.
Fantastic bakery. Great staff and the best ever cheese scones.
So much to choose from and some wonderful flavours . Money well spent for such delicious treats.
K.
Great bread. Very busy, line out to the door. Expensive. Shop could be better designed.
J.
Ordered a huuuge carrot cake for my wife's birthday. They talked me out of an even huuuger one, good call by the way. Best cake I have EVER tried, perfect size and the staff were the best to talk to on the phone. Thanks!!
A.
Lovely food sorry we got a call and had to leave quickly as it was so enjoyable and will go again
P.
Best place to go for a nice coffee and a nice sweet treat! Used to be right around the corner from my old house. Still come around when I get the chance <3
S.
Pretty good cafe and bakery. Such a large selection to choose from - breads, bagels, tarts, cakes, pies and sandwiches.
Interior is large and spacious. A nice place to pull in and have a coffee and relax for a couple minutes.
I found the prices to be reasonable.
D.
Probably one of the best bakeries in NZ. Excellent pies, and great custard square made with delicate hand rolled flacky pastry. Definitely worth the drive for morning tea.
J.
I ate a delicious pie and had a fantastic coffee here. There was Free WiFi and plenty of seating and food options. Easy to find location. This place was a great place for friends to meet up.
S.
One of my favourite brunch places in Christchurch, where you can enjoy a variety of Danish sweet and savoury bakeries and drink excellent coffee. Highly recommended.
D.
If you have not had the Chicken and Cranberry pie. You are missing out on a real treat. Iv been in the Baking industry for over 20 Years and eaten my share of pies. Copenhagen is by far the best. Pastry is light and super fluffy, the way its supposed to be. Try it now and prove my review wrong.
D.
The best very good service 👏 👍 👌
W.
Excellent variety of freshly filled breads & rolls, savories, pies and cakes etc.
B.
Huge selection of food, from rolls to pies to sweets. This place sells amazing cakes for parties too. Usually very busy at popular eating times and can be hard to find a park nearby.
M.
The bestest of all bakeries! If you want to try something unique - that's the place! Yummy, fresh, beautiful, made with love and a lot of passion.
T.
I love the fresh food...Great selection...friendly staff and service...relaxing and clean environment...
A.
Good for those cold days when you need something to warm you up, really good pies, but this is the only good thing here. Worth a visit explorer a great Bakery. I always make an effort when near by to pop in.
S.
The spinach, feta and walnut quiche is always a treat. Accompanied by a mini-cake just hits the spot. So nice to have the option of a sweet bite instead of having to buy a huge piece of cake.
C.
Tables dirty. Food ok. Coffee good. Tables too close together.
M.
This place is a hot spot for old people. Lay out is not the best for people with mobility issues, like old people. Pretty sure the building used to be a funeral home or liqour store. Eitherway, the atmosphere has remained the same.
J.
Food is always consistently delicious, the staff have great customer service skills. What more could you ask for Recommended. Jenni
W.
Awesome food. Well worth a visit. Good parking.
S.
There's been a definite trend in shrinking sourdough cob sizes over the last few months. Have you got a new baker or are you just on a profit drive? It's costly enough without having it shrink too. Might have to give it up altogether if they get any smaller.
S.
Delicious Apple Slice and
Chicken frittata.
Lovely assortment, bread ,cakes and much more.
P.
Absolutely superb...my favorite bakery in The south island

(Translated) Miss the cakes and pastries from this bakery! Some of the best in town I think. I do not live near here anymore, but will come back as soon as possible next time I am in Christchurch.
(Original)
Savner kakene og bakverkene fra dette bakeriet! Noen av de beste i byen synes jeg. Jeg bor ikke nær her lenger, men vil komme tilbake så snart som mulig neste gang jeg er i Christchurch.
L.
(Translated) The flat white is so delicious.
If you like a little dark coffee, you will like it.
Bakery also has a lot of delicious bread, but people around him recommend apple pie.
