The food was nice at the Mediterranean food company. I attended a Christmas work do and we had the set menu. The salami and prosciutto was really nice. The pizza and platter was yum. The risotto was done slightly under what I personally like, if not it's a really nice dish favour wise. This is also my first time trying a proper Risotto. And lastly, we can never get enough of dessert which was tiramisu. The food supermarket have a great variety of food to look at and choose from to buy

Always good. Kinda don't want to share it but it would be rude not too. If you want fresh, delicious, authentic Italian you won't find better in Canterbury.

We shared a gnocchi and pizza - the gnocchi reminded me of Italy, and the pizza was authentic woodfired Italian pizza. Very delicious!! They also have a huge range of meats, cheeses, pasta, etc for platters and meals in their grocery store. I'll be back for some more gnocchi!

The food and service here is always outstanding! The lovely staff are more than happy to help, and there is a wide array of delicious food on the menu. It's a nice place for a catch up with coffee or a meal. We go back regularly for the tiramisu!

Great place for a family catch up. I would like to elaborate on this review. Me and my partner went in to get takeaways and when we arrived we saw my parents were in there on a date, then when I walked in the door my brother was in there third wheeling on someone else's date. Complete lack of communication between us but it was great to see them and absolutely hilarious.

Very expensive and not much to offer. To get freshly slised persut you have to call one day before..... This is nor Italian way to deal with customers. They have lots of pasta to offer.

The"go-to" if you're looking for imported and quality ingredients, from Greek olive oil, to fabulous Liguori pasta. And did I mention the cheeses and salumi? And then after all the shopping, you can have a lovely Mediterranean lunch indoors or out. Helpful staff and good value.

Ended up here as the Oxford Terrace shop was sold out of cannoli shells. Very nice young lady immediately knew where they were. ONLY place I've been able to find them and at a very reasonable price. The shops both on Tuam and Oxford Terrace are very inviting and immediately reminded me of one's I'd seen in Italy with the same understated ambience. Going back tomorrow with my wallet. PS has a cafe and restaurant and outside dining at Tuam , Oxford Terrace in the Riverside Market. Again, nice staff......

Service and surroundings were excellent. Cannot fault that. Only gave 4 not 5 stars because the fettucine tasted "quiet" and struggled to get any real flavour out of the bowl. Despite getting to the oil in the bottom the meal was still subdued. Perhaps this is a personal expectation ? but a stronger taste, more cheese, more basil ... would have encouraged the fettucine to be more than just "pasta and mushroom sitting limply in a bowl " ??

Great selection of Mediterranean foods & wines at reasonable prices, makes this a destination of choice for us, not least the deli selection of great meats & cheeses on offer. And if that isn't enough to entice you, wait until you try their perfect, thin base Italian pizzas. We get a takeaway every week but it's well worth eating in too, as they have a great menu of homemade Italian meals & desserts to tease you as well (their tiramisu is irresistible).

Quite pricey specially the coffee shop. Not a great menu and strangely enough it shows a Spanish flag at the front but no Spanish people working there and nearly all product is from Italy. Even staff wear t shirts with Italian flag on it. Odd.

being a foodie myself and putting love in the food - it saddens me to go one day and the food is great and the next burnt pizza, fruit icecream in affocato and terrible caprese - consistency and caring is needed sometimes -but I am so grateful for the shop and the amazing ingredients - just need a break from cooking and like to feel in europe sometimes - I have learnt that it is important to hold a high standard in your food if it is your work - so thank you for the teaching but please care a little more when people are paying GOOD money

Called in to get pickled mushrooms. Stayed for pizza and coffee!! The aromas, the atmosphere, the staff what a fantastic place. Food delicious authentic!! Will definitely be back. A little pricey if on a budget at 24 a pizza but we'll worth it. Booking advised and parking is tight.

Great pizza! Myself and my partner noticed a great improvement over last year. The dough is much more tasty and digestible than in the past. I also believe the ingredients they used are a good quality. Very nice and polite staff as well.

A well stocked store, watch the dates 📅on the stock as often short dated. Expensive. Can find some of these things a third cheaper in a normal supermarket 🤔

This central city grocery is specifically Italian focused rather than a generic Mediterranean grocer. You get the high quality Italian stuff and slightly cheaper versions made in Greece etc.. Good place to get fresh pizza dough and guanciale to make an authentic carbonara. Essential ingredients to making an Italian dish can be found here. Also a cafe and a restaurant. Friendly service, pricey as mainly imported. Secondary location now at Riverside.

This was a foodies dream! Beautiful sicilian lemonatta can be bought in a six pack and the gorgeous little glass bottles are perfect for flowers. Lots of little treats and you can buy GF products...... I might have done a little dance

This is a great place for specialty food - a great range of products too! Staff are very helpful and knowledgeable and it's clean and tidy. Lovely cheese and deli selection too. Bit hard to park around the back as space is limited.

It's located in a very random part of Christchurch, but just like it's sister store in Wellington, this place is SO good. We really went nuts here with appetizers, main dishes and dessert and all of it was really good. We also had an incredibly helpful waiter that explained several questions. They for some reason limit their takeaway to pizza only, which is very arbitrary and I hope they remedy that issue soon.

I was looking for preserved lemons & had visited Countdown Hornby where I was told that I would find the product @ Mediterranean Food in Tuam st. What an interesting place & choices of food, there's cheese, oils, meats, breads, ice cream that's not ice cream if you know what I mean, it's got another name & its yummy 😋 lol. And then there's all the other stuff - go take a look-there's wine, tinned stuff, bags of stuff & to cap it all there's these dinky little shopping trolleys that you can use to keep all the stuff you want in. Clean tidy colorful & the staff very polite friendly & helpful.I noticed seats & tables maybe they do afternoon teas or maybe they are there to plonk yourself down on & discuss what you have bought. Will I be going back? you betcha it's a great place to get something different & make the next meal tastier 😋.

The pizza here is EASILY the best in town... The best suggestion I can strongly give them: be open for dinner as well. I saw so many people planning pizza night in different days of the week but Friday, thinking about this place, and then (with disappointment) saying "oh right... It's closed today, it's not Friday..." Also, geez, they close way too early.. 5pm.... People go off work at that time...

Good selection, super friendly and knowledgeable staff. Things are not cheap here, most things are imported and are just the price they are any where in the world.

Looking for something different? This is a little slice of the Med, slap bang in the middle of an industrial area. I must have driven past so many times and never noticed it. The food here has a true authentic flavour and they have a good selection of wine. The service is just as slow as any Med restaurant, but in the cool, comfortable surroundings, it adds to the laid back atmosphere. A good place to go with friends for a noisy, round the table family style meal, or grab a romantic table in one of the alcoves. Think creamy carbonara with a carafe of zesty white wine and you will definitely get the vibe of this gem. To boot, the shop attached has an amazing selection of fresh pasta and goodies from across the Med...go on, spoilt yourself!

Great stock of Italian foods, fantastic range of rice, including black rice, and also alternate grain pastas. Wine range is impressive and the delicatessen has a good range of salamis, prosciutto and cheeses. The restaurant serves delicious outdoor wood fired pizze, and the caesar salad is divine.

I love the Med Food Cafe! Everything is uncomplicated and fresh using the best ingredients, the service can be random it is like a family is running it not professional wait staff, but it's fine. The Gnocchi with gorgonzola is amazing and the salad with prosciutto peach and gorgonzola is so good I asked the chef how to make it (secret ingredient the pomegrante mollases dressing!) and have made it home a lot now. Always leave with a box full of goodies from the mini supermarket aisles to cook and eat at home. Quite expensive for the size of the dishes.
