T.Well set out Cafe. A range of cabinet food and also a breakfast menu as well as a lunch menu. Good seating inside as well as a large outdoor area. Try their 'home made' pies, the mince and cheese was the best I have had.
The staff were quite attentive to our needs and quite friendly.
M.What an awesome café! Delicious coffee and food (both cabinet and menu options). Very clean facilities, and a friendly team on service.
B.Remember you covid pass and mask.. inviting staff.. Gluten free accomodating.. even checked a product on request...milkshakes👍 toasted sandwich 👍 open steak sandwich reasonable price for size. Croissant nice fresh tasty.
D.Good choice of food both in the cabinet and on the Brunch menu. In the end we settled on two "Pie-of-the -days" & because there was a choice of two we had one each & shared half each of the Steak, Bacon & Cheese pie and Chicken, Bacon & Leek pie.
These arrived beautifully presented with a garnish of salad and red peppers and a 'fern' of tomato sauce on the side of the plate.
The two flat whites were also good, made with a coffee bean that was not too bitter.
Great that off street parking is also provided.
We will definitely be stopping here on our way back to Christchurch after our trip 'overseas' (ie going to the North Island!)

M.We stopped here for lunch. Coffee was good. Strong. My pie (beef and mushrooms) was delicious. Unfortunately the mushrooms stack wasn't great. Mushrooms were deep fried which made it not tasty for us. The glasses in the water station were not clean.2 still had stains of lipstick. I found 2 in the end.Fries was good.

Felt a bit like a fish out of water as I had just traveled the length of NZ and had not experienced this anywhere else but your normal diners werent happy to see my family and I. Perhaps I had grown horns in Cape reinga.
I hope the regulars are friendlier to your staff than other diners.
Note: Not the fault of the cafe more the other diners. Perhaps its a regular place for them and maybe the travelers (e.g like myself) are annoying. They just did not appreciate the frazzled driver and "tourists" that just wanted to eat and not move for a wee bit.
Have changed the score as it was unfair of me.

G.No 8 was recommended to me by a local. I have to say I was very impressed with the staff, the food and the service. Much more than I expected for a small town. The place was very neat clean and tidy, the order was taken politely and efficiently. The tea came first and then shortly after came the food. No long waiting I have experienced in other places. Both with a pleasant smile. The food was fresh and full. My wife enjoyed a filled croissant heated with a side salad and I had a small caesar salad. Both were well prepared and not short on quantity or quality. A very nice lunch and not too expensive. The outside ambiance just added to the experience. Very well done team.
K.Three of us arrived for lunch on a Monday and as it was such a beautiful day we sat out in the courtyard. Our choice of meals were Beetroot & Feta Salads, Mince & Cheese Pie, Fries, coffee and iced lattes. Everything was perfect! Delicious salads in substantial portions, the fries were awesome and the coffees were quality. Definitely stopping here again!

D.Great cafe. Staff were friendly, my cappacino came out quickly and was made well. I ordered the crispy chicken burger, it was delicious they have a black bun which was good, however its not mentioned in the menu.
C.Short break for a coffee and muffin on the way up to Picton. Coffee was great, muffin was OK.
A bit more variations for vegetarians would be great!

N.What a fabulous find! Thoroughly splendid coffee served by lovely staff in a delightful environment. Sausage roll! Have one. I did and it was wonderful with just the right amount of seasoning. Pastry was well cooked and no soggy bottom either!
Lots of other choices to suit the most refined of pallets or sate the appetites of the seriously hungry.

L.Its difficult having a food allergy eg being dairy free, its not easy asking about options and it would help if the staff were informed and helpful. My decision after even the kitchen couldn't give me something was an expensive bowl of warm chips and coffee lukewarm but I didn't want to say something in case they thought me a difficult customer ! Please have some options in the kitchen

s.Great cafe, good food, nicely renovated and easy parking. Staff were rude however. While it was close to closing, they said it was ok to eat in, but then proceeded to loudly put up chairs around us, grabbing our plates the second we finished eating and generally making us feel very unwelcome. Shame.
C.Great surprise this morning! Just needed a coffee and toilet stop and Number 8 was the next cafe on SH1. What a joy to find a cafe on par with Christchurch CBD located in Cheviot. Gorgeous bathrooms, clean and well presented. The coffee was perfect and the service efficient. Though we didn't get a chance to eat the cabinet food was enticing and the wine list looked ample. Do yourself a service and stop next time you find yourself in Cheviot!
C.Nice cafe with large outdoor eating area, good when you have a dog. Had coffee and a scone which were both very good. Would stop here again.

S.Nice spot however i was not aware that they do light meals and breakfasts until i was leaving and saw a menu on a table. It seems the only choice was coffee/teas and cabinet food when we went in there..The board on the wall behind the counter says nothing about meals, so they are missing out. They have done a very nice tasteful job on this place.
