a.Cute setting. Wasn't overly impressed with their service. No menu displayed and didn't ask if I wanted to dine or takeway coffee, just handed me a takeway. Coffee was delicious though and setting nice. I would go here again.
P.A nice stroll today to New Regent St. A vibrant cafe with Paisley tiles on the outside and an eclectic brewing bike from Cassels & sons against the pastel array of Spanish architectural buildings. One of the neatest places to have a cup of Coffee in Christchurch.

N.Really nice and friendly staff, and cozy cafe in the corner of the prettiest city in Christchurch <3 But it's not just about the vibe itself but also about their great coffee and their AMAZING mushroom burger. C.Coffee was great, and food tasty. Was unfortunate the waitress wasn't the greatest and that there was no drinks menu to see what was on offer so was a bit hard to order drinks that weren't just a regular latte. The menu didn't fully line up to what for served for a couple of meals. (ie missing/swapped out things that it said was in the dish)

The place has two levels, first one tiny and cozy, couldn't get the chance to see the one upstairs. They have many outside tables too. Nice and efficient staff! Definitely you have to try it!

O.My partner and I shared two burgers using the 2 for 1 coupon. They were both absolutely delicious! The milk bun was really good in particular! We really enjoyed ourselves and my partner said it was probably one of the best burgers he ever eaten.

A.Amazing coffee and good food. Fast service. There is a outdoor seating and an upstairs dining area also. Popular for takeaway coffees. Also have juice and smoothies. Just outside the scenic New regent Street so ideal for a wander around there after your coffee or meal.

S.We had lunch at Caffeine Laboratory today. The front of house person, Dave, was friendly and cheerful - it’s so nice to go to a cafe where the staff are happy and pleasant. The hamburgers we had were totally delicious, and the buns are brioche, so they’re soft and so tasty. I had a mushroom one. Yum! My partner had a pulled pork one which he said was super good. Two coffees too, which were very nice as well. All in all, a highly recommended place for great service and very good food. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I.Love the hot chocolate here! Well located place and nice smoked salmon, but the poached eggs were dry, good food anyway.

s.The strongest tasted coffee I've had in Christchurch, to keep up with the name of this place, they don't have decaffeinated stuff FYI. Easy ordering, fast with take away, alterations with drinks, friendly staff. The indoor area of the cafe is small, with limited cabinet food, but there are a few more tables for outdoor seatings. Great place to enjoy some antique atmosphere surrounded by heritages while having a decent dose of coffee.

However the milk was over heated to the point of being unable to drink as it was too hot on arrival, despite sitting on the counter while two fluffies were made. I'd expect a 'lab' to be seeing milk in the low 60s. The white chocolate donut was outstanding though

J.Great coffee in the New Regent Street precinct in Christchurch. My only feedback is there is nowhere comfortable to wait for takeaway coffees and the large coffee is not really all that large. But the cups are nice colours.

M.A hip, indoor/outdoor downtown eatery that ticks all the boxes. Superb food that is stylishly presented, fresh juices, friendly staff, atmosphere is chill and cozy, good beats, and judging by the lines which often backed out the door, I bet the coffee isn’t too bad either. My new favourite breakfast spot.
E.A bit pricey considering the portion size. Food was really tasty and menu is interesting too. The milkshakes were a bit of a joke. $7 For a tiny jar half full of froth. Coffee was really really nice. Person making it seemed to really enjoy doing it.
Other staff seem exhausted and could be looked after better as to people who don't understand hospitality they can come across as cold. Overhead one staff tell another they were "hiding" so they could take their full break they are entitled to.
If I were to come here again it'll be for the coffee and grab food elsewhere.

A.Nice atmosphere, good flavours to the food. I love the location, always good to find a food store in New Regent Street. What confuses me is the name vs the coffee options on the menu... There are a total of three types of coffee available: black, white, and cold brew. And yet the name is Caffeine Laboratory. We had a milkshake each which was absolutely delicious. Vegetarian friendly. Prices on the more expensive side, but is worth a visit
A.Coffee always good but cafe closes way too early and staff too stressed to be friendly or banter with customers, so we go elsewhere now. Coffee is an experience, not a transaction. I think owner/manager should look at their management approach. Feels like they just in it for the quick buck. You would make way more money opening for 2 hours longer and treating staff better, methinks!

The best seating was upstairs, which has an array of quirky photos and interesting decor. An added plus was the balcony (unfortunately not with seating) which gave us a view out over the street.

A.I was visiting Christchurch for a week on a business trip and found this little joint. It is right at the end of New Regent Street right across from the main tram stop area and the first stop on the tram circuit. Work demanded I be up early, this was one of the very few places open before 7 am, so I gave it a try, to my unsuspecting delight. I ended up here almost every morning. My go to coffee at the Caffeine Laboratory was the flat white. The beet juice was excellent as well. I also sampled the breckie bowls, which were quite tasty. The seating area inside is small, but expected of any cafe or restaurant along New Regent Street. Thankfully, they more than make up for it on the outdoor seating area. I highly recommend this spot if you are looking for a coffee beverage or a good artisanal juice. One note, I think they close at 3 pm, so be sure to double check the hours.
M.We had the chilli scramble which was very yummy, however the coffee was pretty average considering the restaurant's namesake hence only the 4 stars. The waitstaff didn't seem too friendly either, but we were happy they were open on good friday.

however, the difference between a 4 or 5 star for us was, we each had a poached egg that had been over cooked hard as opposed to a creamy runny centre.
We would definitely return to check if egg cooked correctly

My partners pulled pork was nice but my charred green salad was drowned in a vinaigrette that overpowered everything else and I’m pretty sure it was missing the asparagus. Which was disappointing for over $20
b.It's the first thing you see on Regent Street. The food and atmosphere really holds up. The French Toast is great. Visited in Winter, it wasn't crowded at all. Good first bet for brunch

I can see why they need seating both upstairs and out front, because they get busy and I can see why! F.From the first moment I walked into the Caffeine Laboratory I knew this was a special place! I had heard rave reviews for years, and I can't believe it took me so long to visit. I wasn't disappointed! Friendly owners and staff, amazing food. The location itself is incredible - being able to sit outside basking in the sun right on New Regent Street. This little street is so historic and idyllic, and watching the tram come through makes it the perfect spot to find a perch for an hour or three!
