Reviews of Wobbly Kea
F.
Good place to have a lunch there if you're visiting Arthur's Pass. We went there yesterday and had lunch at this place. Good sitting arrangements, quite convenient. The food was delicious but slightly pricey. Might be because of remote location. Service was average!
S.
Big nachos, definitely couldn't finish them. Garlic bread was the best I've ever had ❤️ Gorgeous wee resturant. Well cooked homemade food, mad props to the chef.
D.
Stayed in Arthurs Pass in late autumn, and had a great couple of dinners here. Especially enjoyed "The Wobbly" pizza with the garlic bread - enough for both of us, along with a couple of leftover slices for lunch the next day. The fireplace was also very appreciated after a cold and wet day!
H.
Wobbly Kea. A stop by for food in Aurthur's pass. Located in such an old building. As an ADS accreedited tour guide, I've driven this place >50 times but never got a chance to stop. Now I can finally stop and smell the flowers. Ancient kauri/rimu floor are shining. What oil did you use??? We had pizza, pasta, chips. Food is average in your trip, but it is fast! Well done, speed is the key for such restaurants in this place.
S.
Good place for lunch on the way from Christchurch to the West Coast (or back).
We visited this place on a Saturday for lunch. The food was good, the place cosy and relaxed. While the prices are on the higher side, this is a good place - all things considered!
We will be happy to come back.
T.
This is located in Arthur's Pass. Food is good. Pizza is enough for two people and the vegetarian pizza comes with a lot of cheese. Food Presentstion is nice. It will take a quite longer time to serve the food though. Seating is available inside and outside both. Wash rooms are available inside. Ice Creams and sweet food are also available.
P.
Nice, chilled place to be - with a relaxed atmosphere - on a manic summers day in Arthur’s Pass. Food and service was pretty good (we polished it all off). Prices on the higher (but not astronomical) side, but that just reflects where you are. Recommended.
K.
Ate lunch and cooled my heels in here as I waited out the rain. A good cafe and bar with nice warm interior. Good for a sit down meal and a glass of wine. They have a pretty good and yummy salad. It probably would have been a nice place to chill and hang out at the end of a hike. Too bad they close a bit early (I think last call for food is 730).
C.
Ohhhh Boyyy What a treat!! We stayed in Arthur's Pass for 1 night. We decided to have a few drinks and have Dinner. We ordered the Chefs Special Chicken curry with Bastami rice & poppadoms 10/10!!Amazingggg. And the Pizza and Fish & chips with salad were very tasty too. Big serves. Don't go in too late as Lock up time is 8pm!
M.
Beef nachos was quite nice (a bit spicy), fish and chip was ok. Staff are very friendly.
It's a bit expensive, about $25 each main course (e.g. Fish and chips, beef nachos). But there are not many choices around.
K.
The fries were good, however they were extra stingy with the tomato sauce packets! Everything here is inflated expensive - $32 for a pizza!
B.
Wobbly Kea is well worth stopping in for a meal, or a break from the journey. Just had dinner there and a couple of glasses of wine. Service was good humoured, friendly and welcoming. The food was fine, bangers and mash and pizza with a fresh tasty green salad. Value for money. Liked the music, and of course some cheeky kea to entertain outside. Definitely would recommend.
S.
Quite a good place to stop off on the way from on coast to another. Not as flashy as the other place across the road, but cosy and friendly. My wife's coffee was a little strong, but the rest of us enjoyed our drinks.
S.
Great location, great layout inside, clean toilets. Large lunch sizes and the kids menu was quite funny.
R.
The service was very friendly, also give some recommendations. After 10min waiting I get very delicious food, the price for that was also good. I can recomand the Wobbly Kea. In the surrounding there are lot of Kea's.
S.
Stopped for lunch. The menu was small but delicious. Highly recommend the nachos, there was plenty to share between two. Great service.
R.
Friendly service, food menu quite limited though. Still, nice to have a hot soup after cold day out
J.
Definitely expensive, but what do you expect from a town with 2 places to eat? Had the vegetarian pizza, it was pretty good and was more than enough for 2 people. Staff was friendly.
F.
We really enjoyed our lunch here on a rainy winter's day. Generous and well flavoured food done well. Cosy interior with a lovely outside area that would be great in summer. Friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere. Definitely not a production line pit stop, but a place with charm and views onto the surrounding bush.
T.
Friendly staff and nice food (albeit a touch expensive).
P.
Soup was okay and the chicken Curry was good. Unfortunately the fish and chips smelt off and the chips and salad were average. Price on the high side at $26 each and $15 for soup and a bread roll. Service was quick but they looked utterly miserable and disinterested, clearly comfortable in being the only choice in town. Wouldn’t rush back.
A.
Nice place, very good coffee. Like the vibe more than the place at the other side of the road. No PayWave though (I have to memorize this!).
V.
Mediocre food. It was quite busy but food came out quickly.
C.
Food arrived much quicker than advised (really busy at 6.45 pm on a Wednesday in Feb). Staff helpful and friendly. Vegetarian pasta tasty...big bowl, couldn't finish. Far better than expected from previous reviews.
E.
We had a Sunday drive, from Oxford. We stopped for brunch, loved the fresh tomato soup and the warm applepie, recommended this cafe for a good atmosphere, it was just what we needed 👌
G.
Good food, great atmosphere, and friendly staff.
R.
This place is in between mountains so one would expect to pay a little more than your average centrally localed restaurant.
Price wise- it was fair.
Staff service- good.
Good quality- everything we ordered was delicious. We ordered the mushroom soups and chips with gravy and cheese.
Atmosphere- warm and cosy.
S.
Other reviews noted, however, when we ate here the service was quick and friendly, the beef nachos were well portioned and nicely seasoned, and the salad was nicely dressed. It is slightly expensive for what you get (especially if you go for the pizza I fear) but for a cafe situated in the middle of nowhere definitely not unreasonable. Recommended.
M.
Stopped in for lunch on the way back from the coat. The haloumi and peer salad was really yum and the place no too busy at 1pm on a Sunday. Sat out back in the sun but shame about the clanging compressor(?) chugging away there.
P.
An honest review. The place has a nice vibe, pleasant staff, great surroundings. We had Pizza, something I love making myself. It was plenty for two, & full of ingredients, it was however a little boring. A little use of cracked Pepper, some herbs & spices, would make a huge difference. I very much doubt it was mozzarella cheese they used, much a pity!!!. And the bought base was a big downfall. Why don't they make their own. There is just is no substitute to a freshly made base.
P.
The coffee, the hot chocolate, the carrot cake and the banana cake were really good but the waitress was not really smiling, we felt like we bother her... so I recommend this place for the drinks and for the food and even if I know it is not always easy, I encourage this person to smile, and let the customer feel welcome :).
Thank you anyway.
D.
Best bar (only) in town. The beer is Cold and the pizza has promise. The toppings are good but the crust is thick and tough. Nice relaxing atmosphere.
A.
We wandered in there after completing Avo Peak loop. 3 pints of beer cost an astronomical $38. Service was friendly and it was nice to sit outside at the back. We left thirsy because that's just too expensive, and found a more affordable pub enroute to Chc. Would've happily paid $10/beer and spent $90 there, and bought food. Business owners need to understand greediness is not good for business. I'm in a tramping club and several of us visit AP - but will make sure to take our own beers and chilly bin.
J.
Almost a British pub in the middle of Arthur's Pass. Good food offerings at nice prices. Good service. Very nice ambient. Overall an excellent place to get warm while exploring Arthur's Pass.
R.
Great chips, very clean and tidy! We will definitely stop here on our way through again! We were very impressed 10/10
V.
Delicious food after climbing Devil's Punch Bowl. Pizza, hot soup of the day, tacos and salad. So yummy. Cheers.
P.
We had the vegetarian fettucini, which was really tasty, fresh, hot and was a large portion. It arrived quickly(15 minutes) , although we had been warned the wait could be longer.
Good staff.
S.
Stunning sandwiches, very filling, hot drinks beautifully presented, comfortable surroundings, great music, highly recommend. Lovely hosts.
L.
What a fabulous space. We ordered Pizzas they were amazing as was all the other yummy things we purchased. Happy tummies all round.
W.
Funny queue management
R.
After a day's hike (Avalanche Peak), I was ready for a beer and FOOD. Despite being packed with people (many of whom we had seen on our hike), the Wobbly Kea was efficient in taking orders and serving people. The pizza (veggie) was delicious and a good size for two people. It was a great stop to refuel with food.
O.
This was some of the best sausage we had in NZ! Delicious, home-style meal! My Indian boyfriend was very surprised with the spicy chicken curry as well. He said "this is what you actually get in India".
D.
Great service, good coffee, decent menu for lunch options. Was also nice and warm on a freezing cold and wet day!
S.
Nice little place, food looked good but didn't eat this time.
K.
We came here for a hot drink on our stay at the budget camp site down the road. It’s a nice place for a hot drink or meal given that there’s not really much around the area. We were pleased and grateful for a place with free wifi and warmth.
C.
Nice and cosy place to come to get away from the cold, after a day doing the walks around the area. As there are not many options around here, it's pretty good. Honest food, with no bells and whistles. I would call it a pub rather than a restaurant. Good service
I.
Very good coffee. Good food all home cooked. Salmon sandwich and chicken curry are my favourite. Stop there when ever I go through pass. Worse the wait!!! Smal cafe not so much staff but heaps better then across the road railway through
T.
Good brews. Learnt a lot about kiwi beer sizes. Had a few handles of ale before stumbling into the gutter. Friendly staff were down for a yarn. No matter how strange my questions/ idioms were. Good times.
A.
Surprisingly nice food!!! Cosy setting. The curry my friend had met our Asian tastebud standard hahaha! The tomato soup and coffee was great too! A 5 start from me!!!
g.
Good atmosphere, very good meals and service and a bar. Friendly helpful hostess.
Ç.
After an unsuccessful summiting of Mt Rolleston, my mates and I were very upset. However the Wobbly Kea was a fantastic way to relax and contemplate our next climb. Overall A fantastic place, with lovely kiwi service and a great name!
I am not sure if the name of the Wobbly Kea was inspired by the Wobbly Goat cafe (Dunedin), but I must say it certainly does a coffee very similar to the Wobbly Goat Cafe.
J.
Staff are friendly and food was good!
T.
Big place with heaps of tables, nice quiet outside area. Food isn't cheap however truly on the larger side of things so it's fair value for your money. Order 2 meals for 3 adults and share! Best place we know at this location.
G.
Nice location , pretty good food and beer , friendly staff .
A.
Only stopped for coffee which was very good.
N.
Has some lovely alpine character & staff seemed nice but would have been so much better if they put the fire on. Especially as there was snow on the ground outside & everyone inside had their big jackets still on.
M.
Friendly service good food and great xoffee
B.
Very good staff ( helpful and kind ) we loved the fish and chips. Not many options in AP but we're happy to give 4 ! Would love table service.
R.
Had some food here on our way back from arthurs pass. The pasta was dry and there wasnt much of a sauce! Portions were good for the price.
A.
The chicken curry was excellent. Fish and chips were also good. Lovely spot to relax and enjoy a good meal.
V.
Warm and welcoming on arrival, pizza ,chips and coffee really hit the spot, really recommend stopping and taking 5 and refuelling
E.
Went for dinner, it was the only restaurant in town open. We had pizza which was premade but pretty good albeit pricey. The menu is very limited but it is in a pretty remote location
M.
The food was decent enough but the prices unbelievable. We had a pizza, a soup, and a small tap beer and it cost us 40$!
A.
Good coffee but unfortunately the menu was limited and high prices. Staff seemed uninterested in customers. This was disappointing as the location is excellent
C.
Great coffee...even the Kea likes it when he gets the chance.Well worth a stop.
S.
Big portions, value for money and a warm meal on a cold day. Couldn't ask for much else!
J.
Food is beautiful. Prices are reasonable. Portions are too big especially nachos. One serving is enough for two
R.
The Pizza's are huge and delicious! Our family favourite here. The chips are pretty good too 🙂

F.
The place is nice to have a break on the road. Coffee is really bitter though which not everyone might like.
R.
Nice little homely dinner, great place to stop on your way through Arthur's pass.
G.
We are a restaurant!! Not a charging station for freedom campers..who spend all day at a table.. Then have the nerve to complain about the price of a pizza... Tool..
