Good cafe located in convenient place. You can get nice food and coffee here. Especially I recommend pancakes.

The kids play space is why I come here... Bonus that the food is great and the decor upstairs truly excellent. Love the window addition between play room and seating!

Great value $12.50 and amazing taste of food!! I was so happy with the food

Went in for a hot chocolate and scone. On Mondays and Tuesdays you can get a regular drink and a muffin or scone for just $7. Had we been able to stay longer we would have tried the pancakes. The food in the cabinet looked good too. I loved looking at the services that people had drawn. If you do one you go in the lucky draw for a $25 voucher at The Governor's Cafe.

Returned to Governor's after the owner reached our after a not so great experience. The food was really good and as always the cheesy scrambled eggs were divine. Thanks for asking us back and we will be returning.

My go to place for brecky on weekends. Lovely ambience, friendly staff, prompt and courteous service, and a great menu to choose from. Many folks don’t realise there’s seating upstairs too. Eclectic chairs, a community notice board with everything’s that interesting and happening around Dunedin, and great coffee to boot. What’s not to love.

Favourite cafe! I wish I had discovered it earlier. Amazing food - exceeded expectations. So kid friendly!! Playroom exceeded expectations though I only wish I could get my pram up there! And the stairs are a bit nervous. But so perfect for a date, coffee with a mom friend, had a baby shower there last year, work lunch etc. Love the history and the napkin art too. Again I wish I had known how great it was 9 years ago.

Excellent Service! Great wee baby gated children's area upstairs! Berry smoothie was a meal in itself and the Chocolate milk shake was incredible, All day breakfast 🙈😂 outstanding! A Must visit for everyone

Governor's food is always good. Last time I was there I ordered a vegan version of a vegetarian meal. The waitress was obliging and knowledgeable about a vegan diet and I got a plate full of delicious and healthy food. And the coffee ... the BEST!

Wonderful place hadn't changed in over 20 years

Prompt and awesome service upfront, cafe is ran very professionally, coffee was made to perfection, breakfast was incredibly tasty. Cafe has a ground floor dining area perfect for those who want the bustling noise and coming and going of a busy cafe and a more relaxed feel upstairs with a playroom if you have to bring the kids along while catching up with old friends. Would and will go back again.

We enjoyed a fantastic meal here. The theme is very modern, and it was very nice to visit a Cafe that plays music. The staff are helpful and friendly - creating a warm atmosphere. There is a recurring napkin drawing competition and they're displayed on the wall - making some very cool art work. I highly recommend the Nacho style potato wedges with cheese, bacon, sour cream and sweet chili - Amazing! Keep up the good work Governor's Cafe - we will definitely be back!

Always reliable. Very busy today, I suppose with people who had been to the rugby last night. Plus students back in town. I had to wait about 20-25 minutes, but I was warned before I sat down and I enjoyed observing the crowds in town And ... the wait was worth it! I had the Big Salad. It was just what I wanted! Lots of flavours and textures. Reasonably priced ($13).

Cozy, warm and inviting atmosphere where super friendly and helpful staff serve you luscious deserts, fresh and generous size servings of delectible food. Truly the yummiest chicken burger i have ever tasted😋 and willing to exchange the side of french fries for a side of wedges at no extra cost. Cheaper coffees in the early morning too for that 'on the way to work/lectures' coffee. A must visit and eat at cafe in Dunedin!

Good coffee, food & friendly staff

Scrummy food but prices way above my income and the income of the students that it pretends to service. I have visited this cafe for over Thirty Years most things are unchanged but the prices have certainly escalated. I was horrified to have to pay $12 50 for a banana split. I expected my bananas to be presented with Caviar and gold leaves for that price. Governors used to be friendly inviting in a place that you could sit for hours reordering because the prices were totally acceptable and affordable period not so now. It is not my intention to revisit governors anytime at the near future unless I strike Lotto of course.

Lovely food with lovely service

Service was absolutely phenomenal and the coffee was very good. Food from the kitchen seemed quite overpriced however. WiFi was steady. Overall Governor's had more of a 'diner' feel than a traditional 'café', but regardless it was a welcome change.

Great coffee and service. Just make sure that your order is correct as the chef makes mostakes if you order extra stuff for breakfast. Has happened each time we've been there

Goveners has always been a huge favourite of mine. Love their coffee love their food and staff are amazing

The food is quite good, but expensive for what it is. Service is very slow. Expect to wait half an hour or more for lunch. Even my milkshake took 28 mins to come.

Free fluffy's for children. You can not beat this Cafe for having the best attitude toward young children. On our preschool 'Wednesday Walks' we discovered Governor's cafe. We ( the ECE teachers ) pay for our coffee's and get ten fluffy's for free, fancy as, with sprinkles and a chocolate fish. The children are developing social skills and resilience, a sense of belonging in their community, and an appreciation of others that serve us. Thank you so much Governor's Cafe, we love you. York Place Nursery and Preschool, Dunedin.

The lady on the counter wasn't familiar with the menu and I got a Chai latte instead of a Caramel Latte. Love the kids platter for 2 and the Playroom though!
