Outstanding! Absolutely wonderful food. I had the fish pie, it was super tasty and wholesome. The potato bake as a side dish was excellent with other grilled vegetables in top. Can't wait to come back and the other dishes on the menu.

Good pie and coffee. Good information for local attractions. Five years ago we discovered Sandfly Bay walk from the owner. This year the road to Sandfly Bay was closed, but we got Allans beach from the owner and we found several sea lions there. Very friendly and helpful.

Very good coffee options, true Kiwi hospitality, friendly staff and amazing slices! By the way the only open caffe in Portobello in the mornings. The amazing view is a free bonus and plenty of parking makes the things even easier.

Great place to eat or have coffee! The food is delicious and the staff is super nice! Everything is homemade and served with a big smile! :-) If you're having a break in Portobello, I totally recommend this place.

Compliments to the chef who did an amazing job with our orders (pretty much customized it to our liking) and coffee was also very good. We were pleasantly surprised on the low prices considering the high quality (which can be an impossibility in Auckland sometimes). Please make sure you stop here if you're in Dunedin :)

Really nice family ran cafe on the way up the peninsula. We ordered a chai latter and cappuccino. Both were delicious. Also grabbed the French toast which was very filling and good value for money. There is a cute bird who comes into the store to hang out. Very homely place and would recommend.

Good old fashioned homemade food at reasonable prices. So glad we stopped here. The soup was fantastic and the chicken and mushroom pie was possibly the best I've tasted in a long time.

Run by a pleasant older couple. Currently for sale. Everything is ok without being tops. Toilet outside is a bit basic. Nice outside seating options and inside kept warm on cold days. Very reasonable prices and usually have good homemade options on the daily specials. They do excellent gluten free toasted sandwiches. Good information on display for other local attractions.

After visually checking out the few eating places in Portobello we chose Penguin Cafe and were very happy we did. It has a nice atmosphere (inside and out), very pleasant staff, and the breakfast dishes we chose were every bit what a full-on breakfast should be. The other food we saw on tables and on display looked terrific too. Don't think you can go wrong here for daytime food (not open in the evening)

Very cute place with premium pies - they're much more "homemade" than the average pie. Didn't have a chance to get out the watercolors and sketchbook but it would have been a great place to do it. Lovely, friendly lady who helped us.

One of my favourite Saturday pleasures is to spend a couple of hours fishing on the Otago Peninsula ('Point X' LOL) followed by relaxing at the Penguin Cafe. Very nice service and a lovely outlook, however they could improve their coffee presentation a little bit.

Odd little cafe. Second time we have visited and second time the door says "closed" when it was actually "open". Food, coffee and service was all average and prices were high given that it was average. Only thing really going for it is the view across the harbour and sometimes the only place open. We will probably keep on driving the next time we pass by.

The selection of vegetarian savory dishes could be better (there were exactly 2 vegetarian panini we have taken 😀). Very nice service. All in all, good for a little stopover :) (Original) Nettes Café in Portobello mit einer Auswahl an herzhaften (Snacks, Sandwiches...) und süßen Gerichten (Kuchen, Muffins, Brownies). Das Ambiente ist ganz nett, aber nichts wahnsinnig besonderes. Die Auswahl an vegetarischen herzhaften Gerichten könnte besser sein (es gab genau 2 vegetarische Panini, die wir genommen haben 😀). Sehr nette Bedienung. Alles in allem gut für einen kleinen Zwischenstopp :)
