What a place and delicious food! Take a hike to Lake Matheson before or after eating here. The views are breathtaking, try to go on a spring day with no wind to see the perfect reflection of Mt. Cook.

Awesome dishes, including the lamb leg, fish of the day and homemade ice cream, as well as the cup of flat white (which we took away for the Lake Matheson Circuit hike). Not to mention the fantastic view from the cafe and their very friendly and attentive staff. Never would we regret going to this cafe, even if we need to walk 6km for the visit like what we did today.

We had a wonderful breakfast at this awesome cafe! Always wary of cafes and restaurants in incredible locations because they rely on the view not the food but this was different... excellent breakfast while looking up at one of the best views of the surrounding mountains! Very quaint cafe with very good food. We ordered the Eggs Benedict with Salmon on bagel and the Lamb Salad with Roast Veg. Presentation is rustically placed and portion is more than enough to fill you up. Coffee is pretty nice also.

We came here for brunch after our walk around Lake Matheson. We took a table on the deck and almost had the whole place to ourselves. The meals we ordered came promptly and the service was excellent. The lamb burger was really yummy and the best topping on top was the shopping in the lovely gift shop. Really cool place and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Cafe is nicely decorated with open modern design and big windows. (You can not see the lake from here) Food was presented well but not hot and taste was less then delicious. I had the salmon bagel with scrambled eggs. I can not say how other foods tasted. Maybe they were better. The food was served quickly. The gift shops next door is of a similar design and features NZ souvenirs along with local paraphernalia related to the glacier’s and Jade stone.

Don't forget to eat your food by staring at the view! Great, peaceful spot with some walks around the cafe. Coffee was ok, waffles were great.

Nice cafe to enjoy the views while staying warm and dry during the rain! Service was friendly and food satisfactory. This is the only place we ate in Fox so cannot compare to others... salmon and mushroom benedict’s were on the smaller side and we’ve had better tasting and hotter, food was only room temp. Cafe has large glass windows to take in 180 degree view of the mountains and also a gift shop with some cute things. Five stars for the establishment but only four stars for food.

We had lunch at Lake Matheson cafe before trekking in to see the lake. Seafood risotto and chicken satay rice was good, lamb burger was passable. Didn't like the mocha due to personal dislike of cinnamon. Latte was alright though. Dine here with a lovely scenic view.

Beautiful cafe very conveniently located at the start of the Lake Matheson track. There is a nice gift shop nearby. The Cafe has a great ambiance, lovely views, great service, and amazing food. Coffee is delicious as well. Great place for breakfast after your morning Matheson walk.

At first I thought it looked like every other visitor centre with a shop and cafe in it, same same. Then, I quickly learnt otherwise, the staff were very welcoming and friendly. We ordered the Merino Lamb Burger and Bagel Benedict and a couple of flat whites. After spending a bit longer in there and turning around and seeing the view I was quite taken by this cafe. The food arrived and we were very surprised at the presentation, it was very nicely done. It reminded me of being in a fine dining place in Wellington. The burger was fantastic, a great stack of flavours and the chips cooked perfectly I just inhaled it. As for the Bagel Benedict that was the icing on the cake, I have never seen Eggs Benedict that well presented and again it tasted so yummy. Hats off to the chef. The coffees were ok, a little foamy for my liking, but considering what we have had so far travelling down the west coast it was the best so far. After lunch we took a stroll around the lake, dam thats is beautiful. This place is a little out of Fox Glacier but it is worth it. Don't just pass by this place go in and eat some great food. A very nice cafe.

It's rare you come to a senic attraction for the food, and not the other way around, but this was the case and it didn't disappoint. Great food, and that's coming from a couple of Melbourne Food Snobs 😁 Plus the view is not to be missed.

Not bad for a breakfast at a tourist place. We came over for the view and walk, and fully expected prefab sandwiches or toasties, but the food here was quite good, tasty, plentiful and not overpriced. The walks are worth it, even if it just the short ones to the lake . Nice to sit out side , drink your latte, and drink in the view

This place will not be our favorite place and we actually only went there because there are not many options around. We had an afternoon meal (vegetarian tuscan, cake, tea) and also breakfast (vegetarian mushroom omelette, coffee) the next day. The cakes were not that bad but the tuscan and omelette were not tasteful at all...

This is a good cafe with sophisticated food combinations. We came here for breakfast one day and lunch other. The photos show the most recent menus, which have limited offerings although these are executed well. There is one vegetarian lunch option which was delicious (roti salad per photo) and a few vegetarian breakfast options. The coffee is Laffare which is nice, particularly if you get a large / double shot. There seems to be trouble with their ordering system as on our second time the cafe got my order and one of our coffees wrong and the coffee of a neighbouring table wrong. However, the food is tasty and it is convenient for the lake walk and fox glacier viewing.

Great views (not lake view) from the restaurant. Can be very busy (they are the only restaurant there) hence a bit of a wait for the food. Seafood risotto was quite bland, didn’t have enough seafood flavour and there weren’t any mussels or clams still in their shells as i have seen from some of the reviewers’ photo. Mocha was not hot enough and i didn’t like the cinnamon powder and chocolate syrup topping.

Great and excellent service and standard. I found a hair in my salmon salad and they instantly gave me a full refund of my meal and also allowed me to order any replacement food from the menu. Impressed with this level of service and would highly recommend it for the ambience and seafood risotto too!

So good we ate breakfast there two days in a row. The first day was wet so just enjoyed the Wanderer Breakfast with its delightfully crispy (yet fluffy & soft in the middle) hash browns, thick wedges of toasted home made bread, sausages and bacon. (Disappointed that supply problems meant the Cowboy breakfast was unavailable as there was no black pudding). Second day was sunny so after our breakfasts of Salmon bagel and the waffles (with bacon and caramelised apple & maple) we did the lake walk then returned for a second coffee afterwards.

Seeing Lake Matheson at Fox Glacier is worth though not having a clear sky to see the magnificient view of Mt. Cook and Tasman mirroring at Lake Matheson. So beautiful. Spare some time to enjoy the view. Worth to walk the tracks to see its beauty.

Stopped by for breakfast, and very glad we did. For starters, it is in a great location with a nice view, a walking track, and a gift shop in the immediate vicinity. I thought my chai latte was quite nice, and the poached eggs with hollandaise on toast was simply perfect. There was also a kumara dish that my girlfriend enjoyed. The staff were also polite and professional.

I feel sorry for the beautiful and attentive floor staff. The food is too small and definitely needed sides as extras but they were not on the menu. The lamb came out with slices of beetroot that looked like it had come from a can only it was hard as rock. But in saying that the breakfast and lunch menu looked more up their alley perhaps. The 3 stars was purely for the lovely staff and the wine wasn't too bad either.

Great location to take a break and watch the mountains ahead, with five minutes drive from the town centre of Fox Glacier, you can easily arrive this lovely cafe. Albeit sale of business notice was published outside, the standard and service was found to be good and great. With the magnificent view over the Fox Glacier at distance, you can found yourself sipping in the natural comfortably and let the clock runs through very easy.

Only complaint was that they were swapping for their dinner service when we came in so there was no cabinet food available but not a biggie. If your planning on coming to Lake Matheson first thing in the morning then you might want to hold off on having breakfast elsewhere. The breakfast we had here was next level delicious. From the free ranged eggs they used to the locally grown mushroom and tomatos as well as bloody good coffee! I had never had a good breakfast until I tried this cafe. I do advise though that you get in early as crowds and toursits start to arrive it could be long until you order and find a seat. Parking is plentiful and is right outside the premises.

Delicious food and cakes. We ended up ordering a slice of each cake and enjoying every bite. The cafe is light and airy and a perfect place to relax before or after the walk around the lake.

Amazing cafe set just outside the Lake Matheson track. Cosy and warm, with stunning views of the snow-capped mountain ranges. The coffee was delicious and one of the best I've had in New Zealand so far. It was averagely priced, but the mugs were huge! The fruit bread with banana jam was awesome as well, they were very generous with portion sizes. The staff were very friendly, polite and seemed interested in doing their job - something that seems to be getting rarer to come by. Free, high-speed WiFi also available here. Hope to visit this cafe again one day, it was definately a hidden gem.

This is a friendly, comfortable place with an interesting selection of delicious food: good lunches, tasty cakes and decent coffee. Just the thing after walking round Lake Matheson. There is both indoor and outdoor seating and best of all good fast free WiFi.

This is a beautiful cafe at the trailhead for Lake Matheson. There is excellent coffee and food. There are views of Mount Cook from here, especially if the day is clear. This is a great stop if you are driving down to Queenstown from Franz Josef or Fox.

Cafe is the starting point of the Lake Matheson Walkway. It is recommended to start the walk early, around 7am, to see the reflection. Go around the lake for different point of views. End the walk at the cafe and have a breakfast while enjoying the beautiful views.

Matheson cafe along the route to lake matheson is a wonderfull place to stop over before or after a walk along the lake. Let me remind you that the weather here changes every minute - (no exaggeration , every minute literally ) one minute it’s raining , the next the sun comes out bright.it is an hour n a half walk around the lake. The view points along the lake give u a marvellous stop over point and also the reflection point is a must for photographers to click mirror images.at the end , the matheson cafe is a saviour for a chilled beer or cider or hot chocolate, fish of the day (fresh catch of the day changes), the salmon was exceptional .The pavlova and the toffee deserts were beautifull . A must when at fox glacier
