Reviews of Hayes Common
W.
Thank you to the staff and the owner of this amazing establishment.
You looked after me and my team and our visitors today and made us feel comfortable and welcomed from the get go.
The atmosphere was lovely. Plenty of space for what turned out to be quite a crowd of us.
Service was top notch! The drinks (hot and cold) yummo! And the food was not only and amazing feast for the eyes but it was delicious!!
Well done. You should be very proud.
Highly recommend 10/10
C.
I simply cannot rate Hayes Common highly enough. I have been coming here since they opened and they service, food, atmosphere and ethos is simply outstanding. Whether its a business meeting, quick coffee, staff do or just a catch up with a mate, this is one of my favourite spots.
B.
Busy today but excellent efficient service. Seated promptly and cold mineral water was a nice touch. Coffees and light meals magnificent. Highly Recommended
M.
Last minute decision was made to have breakfast anywhere new and Hayes was carefully pick up. No reservation done and luckily we got seats for 5 of us, mainly because it was before 8:30am. I do really recommend booking a table, because it is often full on the weekends. Food was served fresh and wonderfully prepared, tasty flat white accompanied my choice. Will come again very soon. Thanks for all the staff for this awesome experience :)
S.
Lovely little place!! My wife and I had a really good time dining here. Everything that we ordered was EXCEPTIONAL. My Sazerac rye whisky cocktail was perfect and I must say the bartender is a magician :). The freshly shucked oysters were bliss. Spiced lamb ribs, the best slow-roasted lamb I've ever had. We enjoyed the awesome market fish of the day and the broccolini for sides.
The service was excellent. A friendly bunch of people with smiles all around. We packed a chocolate mousse dessert for the child and she did mention that it was heavenly with a big grin :)
It is a high-end gourmet place. So can't complain about the price. It can be a once in a while affair. I'll definitely be there again!!
G.
Really good food! Probably one of the best dinners in town. Always consistent drinks as well! Totally recommended.

A friend and I were having a catch-up and decided to go for a walk by the river. We noticed Hayes Common as we rounded a corner of the walkway. I have visited the café a couple of times and knew we would not be disappointed.
We saw that people were flocking to the café and jumped on the bandwagon.
The exterior is rustic and I love the colour scheme they used. The interior was breathtaking, whoever designed the interior deserves a big high five and some.
As we approached the entrance a couple of the staff members greeted us with warm smiles and informed us that they'd just be a moment.
Walking through the front entrance into the cool breeze from the air conditioner was heavenly.
The atmosphere was peaceful and the ambience was vibrant and carefree, full of happy faces and laughter and chattering here and there.
The host welcomed us and poured some ice-cold water as we settled into our seats. I loved the water jugs and the other ceramic crockery they had – so unique.
Our waitress came moments later and took our coffee order with a great big smile on her face. It's always lovely to see staff smiling. It sets the tone for the kind of service you'll receive.
Hayes Common serves Atomic coffee, which I am particularly fond of. I'm not quite sure what blend they used. At first, I thought Veloce, or maybe Essenza but I'm not sure – I really should have asked.
The coffee was to die for. My friend ordered a mocha and was pleasantly surprised. She lives close by so will be returning, she had said, happily sipping away.
The profile of the coffee did shine. If you enjoy espresso/short black then I highly recommend you try this beautifully crafted blend of Atomic coffee. The barista is a master of his/her craft. Even though it was busy, the drinks came out swiftly and with great care.
My friend ordered the pancakes and was intrigued by the presentation and was blown away by the variety of flavours and textures – delighted she was. I order the scrambled eggs with bacon and mushroom. The dish as a whole was well cooked, succulent and flavoursome.
As my friend and I ate and chatted away, we stopped at moments to gawk at the food that other patrons received. We were in awe. Everything that came out of that kitchen looked so appetising and colourful: the presentation of each dish was flawless. Kudos to the chef! I can see that the chef had put his/her heart and soul into the menu, and some. The passion did shine through each dish as bright as day.
Each staff member we engaged with were efficient and effective at their job while maintaining a calm and down-to-Earth, always with a smile.
If you are traveling, live in Hamilton or are close by then I highly recommend you visit Hayes Common. You will not regret it, scouts honour.

Busy crowded place, a bit of a wait for a group of 5 on Saturday morning. Obviously a popular place with the locals
Top notch menu, all food amazing. Very inclusive menu for all, vegan, keto, gluten free, etc
Great variety of dishes, from gnochi to bao
Coffee was good, and drinks menu as well, you can get different teas, like cava, and juices
Awesome ambiance on the river bank with a view of a good looking suburb
Taking away a star for the 35 minute wait, which wouldn't be an issue if they warned us in advance as we were in a rush
N.
Excellent dinner options, fantastic service
C.
Such a cosy and friendly spot to have a Sunday morning brunch with friends and family. Really like the location and it is even more comforting if you are a winter person like me. The atmosphere is great and the staff is very friendly and efficient. Their menu is great and their food is really well presented, balanced and really delicious. Definitely a new favourite to go back to again.
R.
I love this place. It is situated in residential area near the river so it gives a very beautiful feeling. I love going there for lunch and dinner. If you're a vegan or vegetarian, I'd say lunch and dinner menu is almost the same but the portions are wee bit bigger in dinner menu and of course the price too. They don't do coffee syrups but their coffee is real nice. I ordered cappuccino in almost milk and it was delicious. All the food is prepared fresh. During lunch hours on weekends, expect a wee bit of wait but if you're with friends/family that should feel too long. Plenty of parking. Also, try their 'on the counter dessert' which is an absolute delight. They do vegan and gluten free dessert too.
K.
Had their tofu bao buns, absolutely delicious. Iced coffee was good but have had better.
J.
One of those local treasures that you should put on your list of places to visit! Always fantastic food and beverages here!
S.
Incredible atmosphere, and super friendly staff. Serving sparkling water is a nice touch. Coffee arrived quickly, was nice that the server asked us if we would like to order coffee as he gave us menus. This way we could have our caffeine fix right away. Coffee wasn’t bad but want great either. Tasted a little bitter perhaps the shot was to long or maybe machine a little to hot. Food on the other hand was to die for. Never had such perfectly poached eggs before. And oh lord the miso potato’s we’re out of this world! Will definitely be back again.
S.
Great coffee and great quality food. We had the friand and the Danish pasty. Both were superb. It's a lovely venue and there in ample on street parking. The place is kid and pet friendly.
H.
Friendly staff, great location, historical attributes, fantastic for picnics. A nice bike trail toward Cobham Drive. You can also cross over to the other side and bike to Ngāruawāhia via the river path.
A.
Always love Hayes! The best part is always the friendly staff, they make the visit so welcoming. Of course food is great too!
K.
2nd visit here, first visit mid week we raved about food and service. Visiting in weekend big waits for food and coffee, both lukewarm and not as tasty. Wouldn't visit again in weekend.
A.
Fabulous eatery by the river in Hamilton. The "feastival" happening on the night we were there made for a very busy atmosphere with lots of families having fun. The staff did a great job keeping everyone fed and watered.
Food was very good too. Duck Breast perfectly cooked and calamari as tender as can be.
Recommended if you're in Hamilton.
J.
Very nice food, well prepared and beautifully presented. It was quite busy, so the food took quite a while to arrive, but the location is lovely and the staff are great and kept the water and ciders flowing so it was no hardship. Nice aircon inside and a bit of a breeze out on the tables at the front. Cute puppies for patting too. A couple of annoying flies though.
r.
Very busy place on a Saturday morning yet they managed to serve everyone on time. The staff are very nice and food is 👌👌👌
C.
Great coffee. Was a good set up when I went for contactless and and was nice that I could just walk across the road to drink it by the very scenic riverside.
N.
Seriously impressed with this place. With a no fuss menu, amazing service and impressive food quality, this place ranks highest so far for breakfast fodda. I'm told the dinner experience is well renowned. UPDATE: Ventured back and I'm certainly glad I did. Had the BEST tasting breakfast I've EVER had! Check the photo out. Love this place.
R.
Such an awesome experience! Simply the best breakfast ever. Food here looks amazing and tastes even better than it looks!
I.
Love Hayes common. If you have a dairy allergy go here! It's wonderful. Monique (one of the fantastic wait staff) is so friendly and just super at her job. We are regulars. Looking forward to summer and having a drink outside in the sunshine.
k.
excellent choice of breakfast options, all superbly prepared, a delight for both eye and taste buds
B.
most excellant considerate service very good food loved the coffee thank-you
S.
The Zimbabwean man who serves us is ALWAYS amazing. We are regulars because we LOVE the food AND it makes a huge difference having someone who makes us feel comfortable. We always look forward to seeing him. He is fast, efficient and friendly like some of the other staff.
R.
Excellent food and service. I love coming here.
A.
Great taste of all the food we order, only down side is the portion is small with its price. At least for the taco we ordered.
F.
This place was magic! Great food, and great customer service. We came while on holiday in New Zealand
C.
Only been here a couple of times, but these guys do a good job. Friendly laid back vibe with music to match. Good coffee.
P.
Had wonderful time at Hayes Common. Had soulful food and amazing service from Monique. She was very engaging, recommended good food and was very friendly. The food, the ambiance, the service and Monique makes Hayes Common a must go place.
A.
Delicious meal at Hayes Common in Hamilton. Plenty of off street parking with indoor and outdoor seating. Service was friendly, coffee was top notch and the food was delicious!
A.
I have been disappointed by Hayes Common in the past - expensive food, poor service, and unpleasant drinks.
We had planned family outing and it was decided to bring along a dog - I admit I was very hesitant to suggest Hayes Common due to my past experiences.
However I am pleased to say that today we were extremely impressed with the entire experience. Food was delicious, staff friendly and helpful, and even though it was quite busy, the wait wasn't that long. Redemption achieved, and will definitely be back!
H.
The coffee is amazing! Great service! Will come back again!!!
R.
Awesome! Great location, great food, friendly and helpful staff
L.
Fantastic food excellent service great to take kids and dogs
T.
Popped in for lunch after spending the morning at Fieldays and had an absolutely delicious lunch here!
Highly recommend the Braised Awhi Farms beef shin melt with jalapeno cheese, crispy onion, sourdough!
Such good coffee, speedy service and friendly staff too, just all round good vibes!
Definitely stop by if you’re close by!!
C.
Lovely food, service, coffee, and atmosphere. Will definitely be back.
a.
One of our favourite places to eat at. The menu never disappoints.
I.
Great spot. Handy to Hamilton East and conveniently located right beside the river path at Wellington Beach - easy access from the Hamilton Gardens, or across Cobham Bridge if you’re coming by bike from the west side of the river. Quiet spot with a good mix of indoor and outdoor dining. Great food, friendly and fun staff. It’s our favourite local spot for breakfast, brunch and lunch.
M.
I had pancake with fruits. It certainly was different- pancake came out with sides, like bowl, but sides were quite crusty hard. The taste wasn't anything to write home about. They did quickly bring cream when asked for.
I had some food envy when saw friends dish- avocado on toast.. Till he and other friends' dismay saying needed a chainsaw to cut through the bread! Not great.
Be aware, the coffee is Very strong good if you like it gravely strong ! Most staff were nice though, and lovely manager & helpful
D.
Nice food . No dessert choice at lunchtime looses 1 star 🙂
W.
One of the best eatery in Hamilton, hidden away near the river. Great place for a nice brunch in the weekends, lunch catch up or dinner and drinks with some mates..
E.
What an amazing place to eat. Everything was amazing food, atmosphere., lovely surroundings. I will definitely be coming back again.
A.
Great atmosphere, tasty fresh beer on tap. Mushroom gnocchi was so good! Plus a warm welcome to a fam of 6. Thanks 😊
K.
Had an amazing dinner. Kid friendly. Staff were really good, excellent food and service and lovely setting too.
M.
Fantastic brunch as always. All meals served by awesome friendly and attentive service staff. Food was well presented, warm and tasty.
The only other comment I would have is that the fold up chairs are very uncomfortable and don't feel very study
Other than that 10/10
C.
Food was delightful, the lamb share plate was out of this world tender and flavourful. The broccoli broad bean side was over-lemoned, which drowned all the other flavours (and I like lemon). Front of house service was practically absent. With 3 FOH staff on duty, I personally had to get up requesting various services for our 5 person table at the counter over 7 or 8 times... 30 mins to even get our order taken!
S.
Had lunch there today. Service was friendly but slow. We had to ask for menus. I had jerk fried chicken which was well presented but disappointingly bland to eat. Nice setting and atmosphere, but not so sure I would go back.
K.
Excellent coffee and food. Great location
M.
Our coffee and tea was just lovely. You have to try the chips amazing!
H.
Amazing food in a quaint little cafe with a bustling crowd at lunch time. Would definitely visit again!
T.
Thanks Lisa for arranging the vouchers at a very busy time. Fantastic service!
G.
Had lunch here on Sunday. Ordered the Kingfish Crudo as I wanted to enjoy something different. And it did not disappoint. It tasted amazing and was perfectly paired with my McLeods Longboard Lager. My partner had the Cauliflower Salad. Very generous serving and hit the mark perfectly. Great atmosphere and eclectic mix of patrons. Coffee was excellent too.
A.
Awesome place for brunch, ordered a commoners breakfast something and my partner ordered a variant of an option from the menu. Great service, inviting environment.
m.
Really good food portions and the staffwere lovely
C.
Very awesome place. They were pumping at lunchtime today and we still got excellent service. We’ll be back!
More vegan options coming on line.
S.
The food is good, good location but being a vegetarian, I wish I could see more veg options in menu.
Definitely a nice place for non-veg eaters
L.
Fab service, an exciting and unique menu with delicious food. We enjoyed our brunch today. If you are looking for something fresh and unique, definitely visit this thriving and popular eatery.
T.
Place has a nice feel, and the staff were very friendly and personable. The cabinet food was really good. I ordered the fish deep fried in beer batter, alas this was average. The fish was fresh which was good but the batter wasn't crunchy and was a little tasteless, also the shoestring fries were luke warm, my workmate got the calamari and he had the same complaint, a little underwhelming. Good coffee though
N.
Food was devine, lovely staff who knew all the wines to match our starters and mains. The restaurant is situated away from the hustle and bustle of the city and is next to the mighty Waikato River, always nice for a walk after or before dinner.
C.
Great coffee! Friendly staff and a pleasure to support local. Thank you!
J.
Yummy food and great atmosphere.
P.
Awesome Cafè service is amazing and they cater for most eating types. Would highly recommend going there
S.
If you are happy that the chicken is all gone even though it's 12. 30am
and no eggs after 11am the salad consists of literally a quartered lettuce, stalk included, you'll love it
J.
Hayes Common never disappoints! The food is fantastic, we've ordered different things every time we've gone and it has never been anything short of excellent. Most recently we had the pork belly bao buns and the beef brisket sarnie. Both meats were cooked to perfection and the accompaniments were well balanced and full of flavour. Great quality coffee and friendly helpful service too. Can't recommend highly enough!
S.
Best Customer Service, Best Coffee and great food.
We walked in and a staff member smiled and greeted us immediately, despite it being busy we were not left waiting, my first impression was made then.
They made the effort to seat us, brought over sparkling water, menus and took our drinks orders immediately so we had something while we waited for our food, at this point I knew it would be a good experience.
The barista brought our coffees out personally and noticed we looked ready to order so (despite not being assigned to us and this not being their job) took our orders and committed them to memory (no notepads here). The coffee was also fantastic. Strong but perfectly balanced flavours and consistency from the foamy first sip to the bottom of the cup.
The customer service at Hayes meant that all we had to do was show up and every other aspect of our cafe experience was taken care of with minimal thinking on our behalf. They satisfied and exceeded our expectations. Our food was delicious. I go back regularly.
A.
great food and friendly service. Awesome!
K.
Set in a peaceful and quiet end of the city alongside the river. Very fiendly staff, beautiful food and coffee is delish 👌
d.
Had beetroot hummus with olives and bread which was tasty. Bread was amazing. Crispy duck was amazing. Almost had an arm wrestle with darling over it. Mains were pan fried Hapuka which was well cooked and beautifully presented. I had tofu bao buns which were fresh and delicious. No room for dessert. thanks
J.
Never disapointed.
Every time really good food, good sélection of wine and cocktails and perfect service.
Always a pleasure to come back
K.
Pictured is the big breakfast with eggs and bacon. The service was great, and so was the good and coffee
O.
Beautiful spot with a gorgeous menu and excellent drinks list. Only downside is that the mains are pretty expensive, over $30 each. Otherwise I would wholeheartedly recommend!
N.
Amazing service and the food was worth the wait. Only down side was the wait was a little long... sparkling water on tap helped fill the gap. The baked pancake was incredible. Beautifully balanced flavours, enticing presentation and big wow factor.
L.
I prefer the breakfast menu, and honestly find the lunch menu very limiting. Although I enjoy different tasting foods, there is very little for those that require a simpler fare to choose from. Quite expensive for lunch. Our selection was between $22-30 for each plate. Cabinet food would be great. The venue is lovely with ample indoor and outdoor seating. The service is good and the food came quickly.
W.
Enjoyed a tasty Brunch. The service was excellent. Very efficient and obliging. Will be returning.
S.
Fast, friendly service but limited menu
G.
An interesting menu with good range of choices. Excellent staff. Nice indoors and outdoors. Enjoyed it very much.
A.
Great premises and good food. Servings sizes were generous, and the staff were patient and very attentive.
B.
Very squished seating when it's busy; which is a regular occurrence since it's a popular cafe. Otherwise a very unique menu with meals that deliver on their promise. Friendly and approachable staff with great atmosphere. Overall aesthetic of the place is very pleasing. Being so close to the river means nice places to walk to before or after meal. Outdoor seating gives a reasonable view. Parking is not too difficult, though be mindful as it is a residential area.
I.
Excellent service, river outlook, sparkling water (complimentary) and fish (Sole) main course. The gnocchi was entree size and a bit hopeless really but overall the experience was pleasant and we will return.
R.
Great food and service as always. They were very kind and accommodating with my friends special dietary restrictions. 💯
S.
Wonderful experience. Great food at great prices (the first reasonable one I found in NZ so far compared to Australia). They cater well for kids. There was also a near peanut incident that I was at fault for but it was dealt with quickly and without any fuss. Double thumbs up.
J.
Lovely atmosphere! Wait staff are great
C.
Awesome spot for a bite to eat in Hamilton, close to the riverside walkway. Great decor, food and coffee delicious & seems popular with the locals. Prices more restaurant-y.
S.
They were very busy and still managed to seat us straight away and service was extremely quick and well organised. Food was tasty, would def recommend. Even have sparkling water on the tap, fancy ;)
R.
Great service, excellent quality of food and coffee! Great ambiance and decor is muted and relaxed. Can I mention quality of food again? Exceptional 🤩 child friendly and great children’s menu 🥳
A.
Ordering a lunchtime beer with the eggs Benedict wasn’t my most inspired choice but I couldn’t fault either.
The cafe’s in a less pretty area but it’s a good little spot and beautiful to sit in on a hot day.
C.
Great place! Had the black beans tostadas
K.
Very lovely place. ordered a pork bao. Pork was crispy and very tasty.
First time having Rabbit sage pappardelle was such a great taste.
You guys are a great place and are doing a great job.
D.
Finally made here to see what all the fuss was about. This place did not disappoint at all.
The food was spot on, we tried many different menu options between our table of 7 people and every person was saying WOW. Food came from the kitchen in a timely manner.
Wait staff are super friendly and always attending to the tables needs.
No shortage of nice beer, yummy cocktails on the menu.
Keep doing what you are doing team, you have a great place there.
D.
Loved the look and feel of this cute cozy little spot. Coffee was lovely and the staff were really warm and friendly. However, we were disappointed with the food. We ordered the duck and the beef burger. The duck burger was really rich and could mostly just taste the eggplant, whereas the beef burger tasted like it was not seasoned at all and couldn't really taste the smoky cheddar, the slaw was nice and fresh though. Aioli with the potato skins could definitely be heaps better, didn't have that vinegar punch to it like aioli should, the skins were really under seasoned as well. Food aside, I enjoyed my visit here.
R.
Great value for money, amazingly quaint location, near the river in the suburbs. Warm and friendly staff. My only qualm is that they default to sparkling water...and I'm not a fan, but when the normal water comes out its got ice and lemons in it...
Great place for medium sized groups, for brunch breakfast or lunch. Love it
D.
Good for casual dining or coffee. Food always good and interesting, although is sometimes served colder than ideal. Menu changes regularly. The wine list exceeds expectations, but there are no guarantees your glass won't get mixed up with others on your table. Seems to be the go to place for dog walkers.
G.
This visit was a birthday dinner for my wife, arranged by one of our daughters who lives in Hamilton. She and her husband had been a number of times before and had enjoyed the visits.
The menu is mostly shared plates and each that we ordered was well presented and delicious. Beef cheek tagliatelle, crispy calamari, bruschetta, crispy fish amongst others. All good. Efficient service. It's a bit off the beaten track, but worth a visit in my opinion.
J.
This is a wonderful place for great soul food. You must order the steam pork buns!!
I wasn’t aware that menus can change in ingredients over seasons. When I ordered a greenie bowl which had changed since I last had it, I was unpleasantly surprise with how different it was. I’m very pleased the manager was happy to swap the dish to something else of my choice. The Semolina Gnocchi was my choice. Amazing dish! The chefs really know what they’re doing.
Staff are very friendly and accommodating!!
Thanks!!
M.
Great food and service. The brussels sprouts vegan option and kumara focaccia were particularly good.
G.
Good coffee. I ordered shoestring fries. Very disappointed with the portion size - about a cup. They were on the kids menu, but for $9 I felt totally shortchanged. Either bring the price down, or up the amount. Nice & crisp tho'.
M.
Excellent breakfast and great service. Free sparkling water was a nice touch and the bathrooms had towels. Also a nice touch. Magazines were new not old and screwed up like some cafes. A minor quibble- my rice pudding was a little on the sweet side for me but still good.
B.
Came in for lunch today with my girl friend. We had a couple of wines and shared the ricotta dumplings and the duck tacos. It was all delicious and your service was excellent. Thank you! We will be back 👍🥂
N.
Beautiful food & good coffee but the service needs to ramp up. Make sure you have a long time to wait here.
r.
Food was delicious, great place for a good catch-up
I.
Lively place. Nice surroundings. Very good coffee and scone.
B.
Lovely healthy breakfast. Polite and speedy service in a relaxed setting.
F.
Food is innovative and well executed. Fresh ingredients and balanced flavours. Add some nice pour over to finish - excellent!
B.
We ordered a very tasty chicken tikka masala (medium spice) with C4 naan, to take away. It was very yummy, and left a nice couple of beads of perspiration.Menu was well explained, food recommended was so so good. Add to that the owner and chef joined us for a drink at the end of the evening.
V.
This place made our holiday! The best one of all places we had been to. Great meal and great service, and the café has a very thoughtful interior design. It’s an edgy spot.
C.
Best meal I've had in a long time in Hamilton. We are dairy free and the options they provided were not just delicious but nice portion sizes too. Will definitely be going back for more.
F.
Some dishes are straight fire and some are Ok, nothing bad tho :). Service is nice also.
C.
Great service from the gentleman, took the feedback I gave seriously. Great coffee as usual and good raw slice.
M.
Amazing food and hospitality. We ordered Tofu Bao buns and Beef Shin which was mind blowing. 5star to the chef and staff! 👍
A.
Love this place, you guys do a great job and I love that I can have a delicious cocktail with my breakfast! so nice to finally find somewhere for breakfast and have something to choose from other than ‘eggs bene’ or ‘big breakfast’.
J.
I left my keys there and didn't realise for like an hour, they were so friendly that they even put a note on my car saying I left my keys. The dude gave me a mystery question to make sure that it was my car, and every single staff member was friendly with a smile :D will be back for sure!
D.
Nothing spectacular. Just a wee beach a public toilet block and a nice walkway alongside the river. A bit less busy than some parts of the river , plenty of parking and a cafe or restaurant ( I couldn't tell which, and haven't been there) across the road.
l.
Amazing food, tasty, looks good and is beautifully thoughtful. The menu is shared plates so order a few between friends.
Great service from friendly and attentive staff that know their food. Will answer questions willingly and check what they dont know.
Cant recommend Hayes Common enough ❤
M.
Love the food service and the coffee
A.
The food is really good, but a tad pricey. You definitely get your money's worth! It's always full and dogs are welcome outside. Make sure to reserve a table in advance.
M.
Have visited Hayes Common times, lunch, dinner and breakfast so experienced the full range of the menu. I found the food to be exceptional, the staff friendy and good ambience.
Will definitely visit again when in Hamilton
J.
I can not recommend this place more. The atmosphere is great and the food is even better, if a bit pricey. One thing that might be a problem for some people is that they allow dogs, personally I enjoy it because they have decent leaching places for dogs and they improve the experience for me. So in conclusion great atmosphere, great food, slightly pricey and allows dogs.
M.
Staff were extremely friendly. Coffee was good as well. Definitely will go back.
I.
First time here. Nice concise menu, covering everyone's dieting nerds. Fish, meat, vegetarian and vegan. We had fish and chips, and the Nourish bowl. Served in minutes, not the normal 10's of minutes which was. Good for those in a rush. Immaculately cooked fish and chips, which was big enough to share. The Nourish bowl was amazing, nice and fresh, crisp vegetables with a very tasty dressing. It was one of those few meals where you leave energised by what you've eaten, not weighed down. Awesome setting, friendly staff. Just brilliant.
M.
Really lovely service and great food. The atmosphere is amazing and everything is so beautiful. Shout out to our waiter - the guy with blue eyes and long hair, he's really great at what he does.
F.
We went to Hayes Common to have lunch. Unfortunately they forgot to prepare our order. So everybody else was eating and we waited for an hour for our food. Waitress apologized, but didn't offer us anything for the meantime. Food was good when it finally arrived.
S.
Nice place to meet a friend... unfortunately i struggled to find anything on the menu... its trying to hard.. keep it simple.. service was great. We will be back.. but I'm sticking to drinks. The food was good just notvto my liking.
D.
We had the Chefs tasting menu, it was fantastic. Good value, definitely more than we would usually order. Good atmosphere and excellent staff.
P.
Definitely won't be going back to that cafe... Cost me $29 and the duck was the only part of the dish that I liked (duck & mushroom).
I tried eating as much as I could simply because I don't like paying $24 on a meal and letting it go to waste (that's a good 2-3 hrs work to pay off)...
When it gets that expensive, you eat everything on the plate even if it makes you cringe; which this thankfully didn't make me react THAT bad; but if I were to ever return I'd recommend the duck without the mushroom 😁 (even tho I love mushrooms).
I had a mochaccino which was great but I think it cost $5 not the typical $4.5 so it was overpriced. The barrister did a terrific latte art on top tho so you knew they have a skillful team working there.
However the wait between the coffee and food was ages, they also never asked if I wanted flat or sparkling water and assumed sparkling... Which I hope isn't a common mishap.
All together the staff was friendly and the place was clean, the choices showed a good variety but their recommended 'duck and mushroom' is definitely an overrated dish; and won't appeal to everyones tastes buds even if you happen to love duck and/or mushrooms.
S.
Great service. We ordered the chefs menu and the tasting plates were great. Definitely reccomend the calamari, jerk chicken and brisket croquettes. Good selection of tap beers. Will definitly be back.
J.
Lovely place for lunch or coffee and treat.
Staff are always friendly
B.
Would like more Wholefood, plant based, oil free options. Watch 'Fork over Knives' Netflix.
D.
Amazing example of a suburban cafe as a community hub. Situated on a sunny north-facing corner next to Wellington St beach with great food, tasty, expertly-made coffee (2 different blends available!) a regularly updated menu, and an amazing team who'll make you feel like one of the locals.
T.
Nice river setting, super tasty menu and coffee, staff are amazing. Good selection of beers. A top Hamilton cafe and community hub. Highly recomended.

You ROCK Hayes Common! Thanks you so much for accommodating us! We were running late to make the breakfast menu before it close as I wanted my partner to experience the Commoner breakfast for his birthday. One of the best breakfasts in town I reckon.
I was cheeky enough to call Hayes Common and ask if we could please order two Commoner breakfast 10mins out from the menu change over to lunch as my partner had an injury on his back which made it hard for him to get around fast. I even explained I didn't care if the breakfasts waited there for us and got cold.
The team was fantastic especially Brent, it was no problem for them, they made us feel so welcome even though we were "that type of customers".
Thanks so much Hayes Common, chef's out the back and most of all the fantastic Brent!
B.
Wonderful meal tonight! Highly recommend the chef’s tasting menu for a ‘best of’ selection! Waiting staff were so lovely too!
D.
Small brunch menu, not many cold non alcoholic drinks. Struggled to find something on the menu, it’s trying very hard to be trendy and could do with being abit simpler. Food was very good, but a little pricey
Q.
Great service, great coffee
A.
Excellent atmosphere, interesting food.
Most of the music was cool.
Staff, very polite & helpful.
If we lived in Hammy we would probably go back.
A.
Friendly attentive staff. Good coffee and food. Would go again. Love the bacon.
A.
Only because I can't give 6 stars. Food perfect. Service brilliant. Parking and setting... Quaint but you need to go to understand. Really busy but you can see why
A.
This is a great spot to head to on a warm morning if you want a fantastic brunch, and don't want to feel like you're in the city, their spot down by the river is fantastic, and so is their food and coffee, if you're in Hamilton they're a spot to get to!
E.
Love, love this place for a flat white and a delicious cheese scone and the bonus is they allow dogs outside with places to tie them up and water bowls!! Staff are amazing!! Awesome place!!
J.
Always a nice atmosphere, and definately can't get food with the same taste anywhere else. Always fresh and super tasty!
A.
My new favourite cafe in Hamilton. Lovely ambience, good customer service, great food and drinks. Also nice location if you fancy a walk along the river afterwards. Will definitely be coming back.
One thing that is missing: Wi-Fi
P.
Such a sophisticated place for a calming experience of a simple cup of coffee, chill out on a Sunday but book if you want a good seat
L.
First time to visit this place and with friends. Great space for both inside and outside dining whether snacks and coffee or lunch meals etc. Well worth a visit and especially when the weather is ideal for getting out and about.
C.
Great ambience and location but the food was not up to the same standard. Some of the food ( fish and skins) was undercooked, and some of the food slightly overcooked. Have had better luck on previous trips so worth another go.
J.
Love the ambiance. Waiter was pleasant but forgot a few things. Chairs could be more comfy. Food was of high standard
C.
Nice spot down by the Waikato river. Busy and not a lot of parking so allow plenty of time to hunt for one which is usually a short walk away. Not a great deal of choices for people with special diets (GF, vegeterian, vegan, dairy free). Lovely interior, pleasant staff and good coffee.
S.
The chicken baguette was really good but may not be enough for some. My partners fish and chips was average. A lot of fried food on the plate with no greens.
B.
Location, service, food & coffee - all amazing. Would give 10 stars if I could.
