28Apr22 1516 Stopped with little granddaughters on the way from Manukau to Tauranga. Very clean. Friendly and hospitable owners. So we sat at the storefront table eating our ice creams and filled roll .. while the trucks and cars roared past. This cafe has a great display of fresh rolls, savouries and cakes. First time ever I have stopped here though I've been passing this store and intersection since 1986! Stop by with your passengers .. help the local economy.

First time here. Don't normally commute back to Auckland this way and was surprised to see a cafe. Stopped for a break and was impressed with both service and coffee. The food looks very good and I look forward to trying on my next trip. Open before 8, but it is a reasonably busy link to Morrinsville, Matamata and further south.

Perfect place to stop between Tirau and Auckland. Friendly staff, yummy food, good value for money. And their loo is very clean!

Nice couple, good to support nice out-of-the-way family cafe's so they're there when you need them.

Finally stopped after driving past many times. Nice coffee, food and people. Actually the cabinet food was great with loads of delicious options. Recommend the chocolate donut and the salami roll 😎 Will stop again.

Great coffee nice food amazing smoked fish pie

First time here. Coffee wonderful - even had a second long black. Disappointed with my Chocolate croissant as was my partner with her Almond Croissant. They were cold and doughy. We were asked if we wanted them heated and should have said yes. We will call again and next time try some of the fresh cabinet food.

What a pleasant surprise along the highway. You have to visit, building a little rundown but wait until you are inside...the breads so light...brioche Devine, coffee fab and lovely owners. I'll be back!

I’d drive from Auckland to this cafe just for the almond croissant and flat white. This place is amazing. Well worth the stop off.

We stopped here for a snack lovely people, nice food. Need to tidy up outside in garden area as this would be a great space for customers to use. And you need a toilet for customers to use very important.

Warm atmosphere and lovely baking. Just finding there are no toilet facilities on site was concerning as the cafe is pretty much off the beaten track. Is this acceptable in NZ to have an eating facility without restrooms? The owner appeared nonchalant when asked and pointed writer to the sign at the front door. Not good enough Patetonga Cafe

To find such superlative ciabata in this tiny place was a dream come true. The best Italian bread I've ever had in NZ!

A long way from any sort of Italian cafe like the sign suggests. But staff seem nice and coffee is OK. Tidy inside.

Food was tasty. Grandies pies looked nice, with lots of filling. They enjoyed them. Nice selection of pastries, though didn't try them. Outdoor area could do with a tidy up.

I just arrived in NZ from Canada and this place was unreal. The coffee was amazing, long black, and the meat pie was to die for. I don't know if it was the food or the fact it took 26 h to get to NZ but I have never had anything taste so good. I have also never reviewed anything but felt compelled I had to for this place.

Great service and coffee. Pity about the woman in front of me who was so impatient wanting her chips yesterday. Definitely try the homemade goodies in the cabinet selection. A great spin on eggs bene. Loved it. A must coffee and snack stop. Overall a solid 9 out of 10. Would have been a ten if I had stayed for a second eggs Benedict.

2019 management: The Italian Bakery & Espresso The best pastry I've ever eaten!!! My partner described it as taking him back to his childhood in Portugal, it was just that authentic! We will be stocking up on the drive back to Auckland!

We were on our way home to Pukekohe when we stopped in to get a quick bite to takeaway. We both bought cream doughnuts and filled focaccia bread. Delicimo 😋 Graci.

Was on a casual road trip with sister when we started feeling hungry so we said - lets stop at the first cafe we see on our way and We are so glad that we did!! Had one of the best toasted chicken sandwich and the carrot cake was to die for!! Will save address as favorite for next trip down this road!!

New owners have rejuvenated this cafe. Food and coffee are of a high standard as is the service.

Only a brief stop for a coffee and tea - so no comment re food. Male service staff ignored us while we waited for service and he continued to finish making coffee for people waiting - a "wont be a moment" acknowledgement would go a long way. No please or thank yous in service / to mirror ours. Coffee and tea was splendid though; nice and strong with no bitterness - the sour grapes of service hadn't infiltrated the beverage!

This place is now called Italian Bakery & Bakery. Well worth 5 stars, strong proper coffee, good hearty pies and simple yet tasty doughnuts. Almond croissants to die for!

It's ok for a coffee or tea..... when we arrived late afternoon one of the cakes..... chocolate brownie was stale. Difficult access as being so close to the main road and very tricky to get back out onto the highway, due to large volumes of traffic.

An awesome refuge with surprisingly interesting and delicious food. So much better than some of the options on this road. And seriously authentically Italian. Will stop in on the return trip.

Stop and get an almond croissant. That's not the cheapest place but the quality is amazing. Will have your taste buds begging to go back.

Had a great conversation eith the owners but they advertise an all day breakfast.,which was not availabke at 1pm due to kitchen closed. But i did get a toasted sandwich which was second choice..
