Well worth a visit
V.Roughly 2 hours out of Auckland on State Highway 27, many traveller's will have seen this place. A great stop for good coffee, take out items like sandwiches and savouries etc or cooked meals from the menu. Stand out here is almost everything is made on the premises including the cakes, all baked from scratch with no premixes used and taste like home made! Pies are the same, made on premises and the best! One won an award at the pie competition. Easy parking and good truck parking nearby so popular with truckers. Clean bathroom and great staff. Pop in next door for a Gelato, by the same owners

P.Very warm and welcoming place. They make lovely coffee and take extra care to ensure that put the right amount of sugar that you have requested for at the time of billing. The sandwiches are are also very well made and fresh. Clean and a very well decorated washroom. I will stop there everytime I pass that place.

J.I saw a sign outside this shop "Best pies and pastries" and I literally made my boyfriend pull a U-turn as I was hangry and it was sitting cute next to a gelato shop that also looked promising. We shared a steak and cheese pie and I wish I had gotten my own because the flakey, sxc pastry melted in my mouth, the steak and gravy was so ON and the cheese made me quiver with joy, it was on the more expensive side but worth the $. We ran into the owners Mom outside who would definitely do well in NZ's biggest sweetheart contest. We hit the gelato shop next door to finish off our cravings, same owner and same awesome quality. Will be stopping here every time from now on and if pie isn't your thing, it's worth just stopping for a good yarn with Mom.
C.This was by far the most amazing pie shop we have ever been too. The pies were to die for and the donuts were dreamy. To make it even better the beautiful lady that owns the store was so kind and friendly. You know the kinds of people that just make you feel like your at home.... I will 100% be going back.

G.Cheerful, friendly and helpful staff who took great care of us. The food was fantastic, both the items in the display cabinets and the cooked selection. Plenty of seating available inside, even for a group of 10 and quick service on the cooked food. No designated parking available, but there was plenty of space on SH27, within close distance
K.They have a wide selection of very tasty desserts and pies for lunch. Espresso as well. Only negative I can think of is they don’t have their fly problem under control (maybe try some fly strips??) feb 2020.
c.I had THE best eggs bene ever there. The ratios of all the ingredients, simply perfect!!! I will definitely go back when passing by again.

k.Would like to give 5 stars for the excellent coffee but the bacon, eggs and toast with mushroom itself I found to be very average. Service was pleasant enough but they forgot part of my order which I had to then wait for & when the food arrived it was luke warm. Rather disappointed after hearing rave reviews from locals and in the local paper in Matamata.
D.The cafe is simply superb, the stuffs we ordered tasted amazing. A special thanks to the staff team for providing a warmth environment.
6.Fantastic food. Good service. Great coffee and a nice relaxed place to stop on your trip south. If we need a rest break as part of our road trips we will definitely stop here again.
J.Sweet Painted Lady great place staff helpful, we called in following both my husband and I having surgical procedures and they were so helpful keep up the good work girls. And what's more the food is great.
J.Best donut ever! You can’t go through Matamata without stopping here! Lovely family spot, we even met the legend herself (grandma) who bakes everything onsite every day! So impressed with this spot, the carrot cake, oaty slice, chelsea bun, lemon slice and coffee.. all top notch! Thanks for having us guys! See ya soon
R.Food was quite normal , but I guess the cafe is overrated.. Too much crowd and not managed very well. Not a very good customer service, had to wait long for the orders..
Q.This place deserves a five star ....the food was delicious and staff was polite. I ordered a bran banana muffin, a toastie and a chai latte!! One of the best chai lattes i have had in a long time and muffin was so delicious as well!! I will come back here whenever i can:)
j.Just ok really. Reasonable food but overpriced in my opinion. Seating, eating area was hot, open to a very busy main road and therefore is noisy, smelly with petrol and Diesel fumes and had cigarette smoke drifting in from outside smokers. So cannot honestly recommend this place.
B.Legit "old school" New Zealand cafe. Old school as in homemade baked goods are their speciality (and they are excellent!). Nice staff, coffee is pretty legit these days too. A favourite stop when going to/from Auckland.
L.That bacon burger I've just had was excellent. The bun was excellent, it deffinately looked home made. The lettuce was very fresh too. Staff are polite too. Thanks Guys. 👌👍

j.Over the course of 5 weeks me and my friend rode bicycles across all of New Zealand. Every day we would stop off for lunch, and usually we would encounter a trade off between cheap food and good food. That was not the case here. The food at the sweet painted lady is like what you'd encounter in a gourmet inner city cafe, but with the pricing of a rural takeout shop. On cold hungry nights we would talk longingly about this cafe. Enjoy.
