Reviews of Birdwoods - Gallery, Cafe, Sweet Shop & Sculpture Garden
C.
Neat little spot with loads of room and fun things to do. There is art and sculptures all around the garden with loads of room and activities for the little ones. Sweet shop was awesome and had tons of old school lollies. Staff were friendly and nice. Can’t go wrong if you want to head here for a coffee and food - plenty of things to keep the kids busy too.
M.
I went for a special morning tea with my daughters. A first time visit and we loved it. The cakes/desserts were delicious and when there was a problem with my coffee order they were very keen and happy to solve it. We found the staff very welcome and friendly. And then to work off the deliciousness we enjoyed a stroll around the garden and statues, and then a browse with a little shopping in the store.
Would definitely return.
D.
Recommended by another traveler. The cafe was chocka when we arrived but we were seen to quickly and only waited 5 minutes for a table. The staff were great and the food was scrummy. A perfect place for kids to play and wonderful to be able to stroll through the garden and check out the sculptures while waiting for lunch to arrive.
N.
Wow, had to stop off and look at Birdwoods. Staff are awesome, the shop excellent, the cafè is just fantastic, now you may or may not of heard about the Wendy or her custard squares.... but this is a highlight so good. Walk around see the sights and on the way out buy a sweet or two.
W.
A perfect day to enjoy a perfect place. We went for a stroll around the grounds, watched children (and some adults) having a great time in the toy area, bought a big bag of choose-your-own-sweets and finished off with a lovely meal.
R.
Beautiful, peaceful spot to enjoy a coffee and food. Lovely staff. Well worth a visit.
H.
I just love this place. I've been taking children since 2007.there is such a lot to see as well as awesome food, and service.i will continue to go and take my care children. Thank you birdwoods.
M.
Really pretty garden cafe.
Home made custard square.
Moist Savoury scone with yummy relish.
Ice cream shed-very popular or
pick n mix your own lollies.
Art on display is all for sale.
J.
Got a table straight away. Ordered freshly made lemonade, this was very nice and not too sweet . The Caesar salad came in good time, but with no anchovies and such a small amount of parmesaen it lacked taste.
The cafe however offered a good glutenfree menu and some dairy free dishes too. There is lots to see while your waiting as the outdoor galley is all a round you.
W.
Very beautiful place with a nice sweet shop and garden. The granny at the shop was very friendly. The garden area looks nice. One thing I can add is that they should add some soap for the toilets.
d.
The service and food is absolutely 💯 👌. The atmosphere is lovely, warm and inviting for the whole family. The little extras we received here today was so lovely. Manager Chelsea carves up a beautiful smile to her prompt service. Thank you Birdwoods staff. A+.
T.
My God this is a little gem of a place in Havelock. Food was delicious, shop had a great variety of exquisite items to buy. A nice stroll in the sculpture garden and too top it off a visit to the old fashioned sweet shop... This place is a must do sculpture walk is free to have a look at.
V.
Truly stunning, quaint place to take the family for lunch in the countryside. Huge outdoor area with games to play, a swing, and sculptures to admire. The food and coffee is also outstanding (highly recommend the lemon tart!). It felt like we were inside wonderland. Just stunning. Highly recommended!
W.
Decent place for a coffee, high tea or a meal. Went on a public holiday so it was quite busy. Deco in the restaurant, garden, sweets shop is amazing. Take a look on all the sculptures, art pieces, crafts etc on display and they are available for sale too. Foods are good, portion is ok for the price.
H.
I love visiting here. Feels like an escape to another location. Beautiful food and surroundings. Attentive staff. They also have flowers for sale at the front door by a local small business.
W.
Fabulous afternoon shared with special friends. Loved our lunch the atmosphere and great background music. Sculptures in the garden magnificent.
T.
An essence of nostalgia but Quirky & Fun! What's not to love ... It's a candy shop! Jars upon jars of colourful lollies and chocolates!
Thank you Glenn for a lovely experience and patience with our group of 7 people!
Don't leave without meandering thru the gardens next door and the restaurant/gallery!
g.
Nice place to visit. Unless you are having food/drink I wouldn't visit as there is minimal other things to see and do.
M.
We went with my friends for morning tea, and honestly the food and coffee or tea was great! All really nice and beautiful, I would just suggest the waiter to be a little bit more welcoming and smile more. Otherwise everything was perfect.
A.
Lovely place, inspired in South African vibes with a really nice garden and art exhibition, but with almost just one breakfast option (Benedict eggs + additions).
N.
Lovely place to visit. Real fruit ice creams were great value, espresso coffee available. Setting is beautiful and well maintained, plenty of shade and set up for children to visit . Lovely staff at sweet shop . Would be a great place for a wedding or family function. Worth the short drive from Hastings/Havelock North .
C.
Recommended by a wine company as a gem of a place! Not wrong, the lamb was perfect, and the potatoes where something else. Busy when we arrived, always a good sign. A craft shop with plenty to buy, also a garden to walk around with great metal work display. Don't miss the sweet shop.
J.
A pretty cool place to visit. The sweet shop has a huge selection. There's also a nice outdoor area for the kids to burn off some energy.
A.
Nice plc to visit as awesome statues/sculptures to buy and a gd gift shop and an amazing place in the gardens in all weathers to have an amazing meal and drink alcoholic or not and am amazing old style sweet shop and an amazing south African family as ownership
H.
Incredible space and venue. Immaculate gardens and well stocked art gallery with diverse art from around the world. Food was well cooked and presented and the coffee was a highlight in the tiger china cups
M.
Great place to visit, lots of different things on display and for sale, some really nice sculptures out the back, nice coffee and scones and of course the lolly shop !!
W.
The smell was delicious. Its a shame it can not be photographed. Enjoyed our lunch and then the sculptures. A must do.
P.
Perfect summer lunch venue, beautiful lawn and treed outlook and gardens to wander. Excellent service. Thoroughly recommend it.
M.
Great food, stunning art work. Their custard square is AMAZING.
D.
Wonderful spot!! Kids loved the lollie shop!! We loved the gallery, and the cafe was great. Fast service and yummy food!! Picturesque setting in the beautiful garden. Loved it alll. 👌
M.
Enjoy a coffee and the view out on the sun drenched deck. Typical cabinet food + cafe menu in a beautiful setting. Enjoy the sound of Tui's and Bellbirds. Plenty of room for the kids to run and play hide and seek, and look at the various garden ornaments. Staff are very friendly and helpful.
P.
A peaceful and magical space of green surrounded by beautiful sculptures and other amazing art. The stone sculptures are made by talented artists from Zimbabwe and are well worth the hefty price tag they ask. Any one of them would be a centrepiece to your garden. Having them together as an outdoor art exhibition feels like a truly tranquil experience.
Inside is many other wonderful artwork from paintings through to pottery and jewelry. It also houses and extraordinary good cafe with fantastic food and home made fizz for those hot days in the garden.
The old fashion sweet store is a site to behold, making many of the sweets themselves.
K.
It's excellent setting with amazing views over a beautiful garden staff are friendly food is great
M.
Yummy food and lovely dining location. Attached shop has a great collection of items. Sweet shop has great new zealand collection of lollies. Garden and sculptures lovely.
R.
This was a lovely day out, with my sister, the meals at the Cafe are nice, but the lollies at the sweet shop are better.
B.
Absolutely love Birdwoods Gallery. They have fantastic merchandise and fabulous iconic sculptures. Great food and coffee. Highly recommended a visit.
K.
Beautiful afternoon strolling the gardens and looking at all the beautiful sculptures. The huge windchimes are amazing. Yummy savory scones, real home made lemonade and Chai lattes. The lolly shop was so busy, totally got carried away in there. All the old fashioned lollies, chocolates, fudge, bubblegum.
A.
Nice little place to visit, the garden with the statues look really pretty and the old looking sweets shop brings up old memories.
J.
Everything was perfect about this place from the food and coffee, table service, environment, sculptures even in the pouring rain it was all lovely until we met the lady in the shop...maybe she was just having an off day and I hope she is OK tomorrow
T.
Such an amazing hidden gem. My family love looking at the statues and the Cafe is one of the best in Hawkes Bay this definitely a must see.
M.

K.
Such a wonderful spot! Service was excellent and quick. I had the seafood chowder and my partner had poached eggs on panini and then a sweet scone. Food was excellent and great value 👍 we then stopped at the Sweet Shoppe and just had to buy a bag of sweets each. We'll definitely be back
T.
We always recommend our customers to visit Birdwoods as its great place for the whole family to visit. From their old fashioned Lolly shop, to walking around the sculptures or eating their lovely homemade food.
J.
Birdwood is a lovely place to eat. The food is always great and the staff are wonderful. It's a beautiful place to visit, with an interesting shop and lovely garden to enjoy. Love going there.

J.
Absolutely love this place...recommend going here ...Must go and see place ..peaceful..beautiful surroundings ...
F.
A really cute little sweets shop. They have everything from chocolate to lolies. You get a bowl and then can walk through the room and pick your own sweets.
The price is $3.50 per 100kg which is not really cheap but therefore the sweets are really delicious.
The place also has an ice cream shop which will reopen in summer and you can sit outside under a tree so you are protected from the sun.
C.
Great place . Great food. Very busy. Wouldn't go back on a public holiday as 15%surcharge was a bit of a over kill
s.
Delicious savoury scone and coffee. Lots of sculpture to look at and yummy sweets to choose from plenty of gift ideas.
J.
Lovely food that is well priced, very tasty and presented beautifully along with their outstanding coffee. Staff are very friendly and venue is very beautiful and cute. Garden is great to look around and very nice and peaceful to walk through. Shop also offers some great items for purchase
S.
With a great shop offering fantastic design art from Zimbabwe, excellent food and service and a cheerful and warm owner, this place is a must if you visit Napier! The prices here are fair. What makes this place stand out is the real fruit ice cream and the amazing garden where are several pieces of art on display, awesome place for the children to frolic and just for a relaxing walk. Please do visit this place!
C.
Must go for brunch. Eclectic shop and gallery. Be sure to stop in at the candy shop before continuing the road trip!
D.
Great place, huge lawn & sculpture garden, plenty of seating for the cafe, don't forget the sweet shop
A.
Took my 92 year old mum here for lunch. Bought sweets in the sweet shop, had a lovely lunch, and then bought gifts in the gallery. The staff were wonderful. Would have been great to sit outside but the weather wasn't playing nice.
A.
Always a great selection of lollies. Know exactly what lollies to go for now!
Every time we’ve in Havelock North, we head to Birdwoods 😊
N.
Lovely, peaceful venue with great food and friendly, helpful staff. We had our greyhound with us, and they were very accommodating. I highly recommend Birdwoods, we've been several times and it's always good.
J.
Absolutely brilliant, peaceful. Lots for the kids to do, and allows adults to relax. Very nice staff.
L.
Had a great cup of coffee and look around birdwoods at their sculptures in the garden. Beautiful venue.
R.
Beautiful set-up with a "home wares" type shop, an old fashioned sweet shop ( you must try the chocolate coated prunes made on the premises), cafe, and sculpture gardens.
B.
Absolutely love all thats on offer. Beautiful atmosphere and surroundings.
O.
Nice place for affordable lunch, sweets and fruit icecream. Sculpture garden full of artefacts from Southern Africa (mostly Zimbabwe).
A.
Devine food and drinks lovely surroundings, the sweet shop draws u in for old fashioned sweets in jars. Could do with an adult swing!!
C.
Always a great place to stop in at. Lots to look at and the good is great. Very friendly staff and very helpful.
Nice outdoor setting and room for large groups. Candy house next door for some treats...
Tasteful art and good atmosphere.
Definitely worth a stop.
P.
Gorgeous decorations and gallery. Good atmosphere for relaxing. The meal was average.
A.
Very pleasant surroundings and lovely food!
Enjoyed the best pork belly I’ve had in a long time with a yummy tangy salad - great combo!
Couldn’t fault the beef burger either being moist and tender. To top it off out came the homemade vanilla custard square - delicious!
Then walked around the sculpture garden and purchased lollies from the quaint Lilly shop.
Will definitely return
H.
Wonderful afternoon wandering around amongst the sculptures. Sweet shop wonderful and staff are always pleasant and helpful
Went again on Monday, the staff were lovely and friendly and so is the atmosphere. This time going I found the food not up to standard, I ordered a bowl of fries that were very over cooked and I had the custard square which I found a bit tasteless and quite small when you are paying $8.50 for it
S.
Fabulous place with gorgeous roomy garden. Plenty of parking and seating. Great staff. The braised beef burger was absolutely perfect. The beef was very very tender and succulent. Others rated the pork belly and the custard square. Will definitely visit again.
M.
Really great food excellent.Just want to go back again.Staff wonderful.A plus
S.
A rather busy cafe but had a wonderful outside space of sculptures and beautiful spaces
J.
Can’t say anything overly negative about this place. Sweet shop was great, cafe was also good but could have done with a bit more menu variety, the shop was pretty cool too
R.
Lage, busy, lovely food & excellent staff. Indoor/outdoor, something for everyone
Z.
Super place for family and friends to hang out and take in the grounds and excellent food.
The gift store is unique and a perfect place for purchasing a wedding gift or something special for a loved one (or yourself !).
Love this place, could sit outside and spend the whole day there while the grandchildren enjoy the tree swing and the wind chimes, not to mention the beautiful white ducks and the fish pond and the art ..... just make sure you don't miss it if you are visiting, the locals sure make the most of it !
H.
Nice outdoor area. No coffee (except for plunger), just tea and scones mainly
A.
Quite busy. Booked in for 1.30 served at 2pm for order and drinks and told half hour wait. Soup extremely hot, took a while to cool down enough to eat. Those that ordered pudding and coffees had a wait.
e.
Coffee needs some work.
A good coffee brand, but not good results.
A beautiful garden with lots of artwork.
J.
Interesting things to buy, great food and service, good atmosphere. The woman in charge was really helpful and mad about the dog we had with us! Really very nice. Recommended.
W.
Lovely place many interesting sculptures in the garden. Unfortunately arrived too late for lunch but had some lovely baked scones and coffee. Sweet shop next doors was very inviting.
P.
We had coffee and savoury scone. Both were delicious. Wonderful staff and fabulous surroundings
A.
Something for everyone in the beautiful shop: top quality, interesting and gorgeous items : jewellery, accessories, decor. The cafe serves delicious light lunches, coffees etc. and THE most yummy cakes. Beautiful sculptures and gardens.
Z.
Amazing sweet shop run by incredibly wonderful and friendly staff

It was fantastic. My daughter and I totally loved the sweet shop. Our walk around the sculpture garden while eating real fruit ice cream was enjoyable and relaxing. The gift shop has some very interesting and unique items.
B.
Wow! What an awesome place to go for coffee. Such a beautiful & tranquil country setting. So quiet & peaceful.
I had a cappuccino with a scone with jam & cream. The scone was light and the jam was scrumptious 😊
The shop has so many interesting things and the lollie shop, took us on a trip down memory lane.
Well with a visit! 👍
J.
Lovely place to visit, something for everyone. Particularly enjoyed the sculpture garden ... coffee not bad either :).
S.
Very good place excellent food nice gardens.
E.
Love this place! The setting is beautiful and the cafe food is delicious. A great place for children and the quaint sweet shop is an added bonus. Lovely sculptures and crafts. Dont miss it when in Hawke's Bay.
D.
Absolutly brilliant. Good service, good food and great atmosphere.
A.
A great setting that combines gift shop, garden walk with sculptures (for sale) and a cafe with a mix of indoor and outdoor seating - all very tastefully decorated.
The food is beautifully presented and our afternoon tea was delicious.
Be aware though that the kitchen closes bang on time at 2.30. We got there at 2.36 and got the 'sorry, closed' message. Lesson learnt!
S.
A nicely setup collection of experiences in one place from the cafe shop to the authentic lolly shop to the outdoor art works.
A.
Delicious food with a simple menu, served in one of several beautiful settings. We ate outside beside the ice cream van and loved wandering through the unusually curated collection of the sculptures outside and items and art inside. A great holiday-stop.
J.
Beautiful and relaxing atmosphere lovely ice cream and sweets that will bring back memories of youth
S.
Beautiful set up.
Gardens are large with activities for kids and sculptures to view and buy.
Cafe need to book a seat for brunch and lunch.
Sweet shop is pick and mix yourself with old favorites.
A great place to relax.
V.
Beautiful garden art including stone sculptures from Zimbabwe. We bought one and each comes with the photo and story of the artist. Lovely garden Cafe and shop too. Well worth the visit!
L.
Was barren without the art on display in the garden. Last visited in summer where the vibe was buzzing and heaps of people around. Loved the lolly shop though.
E.
I have eaten here three times and each has been outstanding You just don't expect this kind of quality from a 'Cafe'. The smoked salmon today was one of the best meals I have had in the Bay. Each component was faultlessly executed and coherent with the others. I rarely say this, but it was a perfectly conceived dish! The chef here just understands food.
A.
An absolute gem near Havelock North. From the sweet shop to the gift shop, from the eating area to the sculpture lawn, everything was delightful. Amazing scones, variety of teas and marvellous ambiance. A must do.
A.
Awesome experience.. great coffee.. good family fun
L.
A lovely place for an afternoon tea. Has a beautiful garden full of interesting things to look at and/or buy.
J.
Great sculpture park with lots of space for the kids to play.
J.
My daughter took me here for my birthday along with my 2 granddaughters and 5 great grand children. We had a fantastic time great food and great service from the staff so friendly the gift shop and sweet shop both awesome. Would recommend this place such a lovely setting.
K.
Overwhelmed.
Lovely environment beautiful food amazing staff.
A very happy customer. 👍😃
J.
Great set up. Our Grand children were attracted to the jars of Lollies like bees around a honey pot. The ribbon licorice was very popular and l loved the little box of matches. The lemon tart was to die for!
S.
They were very busy but that worked out perfectly. We had a wander around all the stone carvings and a look in the gallery before a table was ready for us. The meal was really delicious. Coffee was also good! Then back to childhood as we chose an assortment of lollies from the lolly shop. So much fun.
D.
Lovely spot to find during our travels. Very interesting shop and sculptures, nice outdoor area, great food & coffee. Staff were so friendly - and nice to sit somewhere and being able to chat without competing with a noisy room or music .
P.
Was extremely busy so wait time in receiving meals was expected though staff were extremely kind with continual apologies due to time delays. A small hiccup was made with our order but soon recified with the offering of an extra scone for the mistake-very considerate.
Atmosphere was warm and welcoming.
J.
Lovely visit today, great cafe food and coffee. Big thanks to your lovely young man who took care of us. Didn’t catch his name but a great asset to your staff. Well done.
R.
Very interesting place to walk around looking at the art and statues also a great lolly shop with alot of old fashioned lollies. A great variety to choose from. Also all the staff are very friendly. The lady in the lolly shop is very friendly.
G.
What a great place to visit. Really pleasant on a sunny day in the garden. Also nice inside with the shop and gallery. Reasonable prices and obviously a very popular place. Would visit again.
J.
Fast service. Awesome food
D.
A great place for a family. The grounds are beautiful, the service is great and the food is delicious.
J.
Beautiful setting. Amazing food. Always have to visit when in town.
R.
Quiet, contemplative, just beautiful. Cafe is great and I love the plunger coffee option.
The items sourced in southern Africa are wonderful too.
If you are in Havelock North treat yourself...
And then there is the back garden no field for you to roam in and enjoy the statues...☺
G.
Amazing Food, Amazing Service, Georgia and Chelsea were very friendly and helpful.
e.
Lovely lady kids had a ball picking there treats
R.
Amazing building and grounds. Very well set up. Food was lovely, and service faultless. I had a very enjoyable time there and would recommend it highly.
B.
THE best place in Havelock North, not only for the coffee and food which is great but also for the actual location and the wonderful artworks. Simply brilliant. And then there's the candy shop!!!
K.
My favourite part was the sweet shop. Armed with a plastic glove and a bowl, you were free to help yourself to as many sweets as you wanted. And don't blink at the price because you've probably picked more lollies and chocolates than you should 😊
S.
What a beautiful place yummy food.
L.
Food in cafe lovely. Staff really smiley and friendly
C.
Wonderful setting & goods. Loved the statues in garden
V.
Worth a look in the lovely gardens and the beautiful shop. Sweet shop is ok but not truly authentic old fashioned lollies, the quality could have been better. Carrot cake wasn’t great.
D.
great experience - one thing thou- when we rang to book were told it was looking like rain so no outdoor tables available! thought it was strange as we were in sun - when we arrived beautiful day and tables set up and being used outside-if fully booked outside just tell the truth
S.
Plunger coffee just nice and desserts are highly recommended too.
T.
Didn't eat here bit have previously, delicious. Brought a stunning sculpture. Great service and well worth a stop
A.
A beautiful experience relaxing venue and wow...the sweet shop, cafe food is great. Definitely worth a visit.
N.
Location is amazing, sweet shop has great selection
J.
Beautiful setting, great for young and old. Amazing cakes and iced coffee and a perfect trip down memory lane at the sweet shop. Friendly staff too. An overall lovely place to meet friends and a great drive out to it.
S.
Love our coffee from here, found the roaster at the Hawkes Bay Market and bought beans to have at home.
L.
This place is a must, highly recommend it, it is absolutely stunning. The kids loved it, had outdoor activities for the kids - swing, pogo stick, kids house and beautiful sculptures on display. Will definitely be back.
J.
Wow! We have been here before & loved it the last time. The sculpture garden was a real treat to explore, after our fabulous coffee & amazing custard square.
A.
Absolutely loved our visit here. Soooo much candy. There was something for everyone one....even memory lane gifts were brought for our elderly parents. The aroma of the lollies of old brought was overwhelmingly pleasant. Prices were ressonable too. I believe this place is worth a drive too.
R.
Very stylish and interesting. Also good for children. The food is good and the sculptures for sale are fascinating .
K.
Beautiful place with little affrican souvenier shop and art walk and mouthwatering food (food is really amazing)
I.
Hadn't visited this cafe before & got such a lovely surprise to discover the fascinating eclectic collection hidden behind a closed door. Such quirky fun to be found in this place. Brought along friends from the USA who have lived in Africa for 28 years & they loved what they saw too. They left with a variety of iconic kiwi sweets for their grandchildren to enjoy...A very happy discovery. Thanks.
L.
Great little shop to take my grandson to for a treat, he couldn't believe his eyes when he saw all the old fashioned sweets displayed in the glass jars
L.
Beautiful place, amazing crafts, good coffee and eats. Bit pricey?
Enjoyable morning spent there.
P.
It was great, lots of interesting things to look at in very pleasant surroundings. Plus a great little sweet shop. Cafe looked good but didn't try it.
K.
Absolutely delicious lamb salad and custard square. Love the silver teapot. Definitely makes the tea taste better 👍 lovely friendly service in a beautiful setting. Great to walk around the sculpture garden.
P.
A fantastic venue for wonderful food, hot and cold drinks served beautifully on a tray decorated with fresh flowers. There is also a wonderful selection of ethically sourced articles for sale. The sculpture garden is amazing. Sculptures from Africa and locally are displayed and got sale. My favourite venue to relax.
R.
The appeal seems great, how can you go wrong with a super cute little lolly shop in an amazing setting. I think the nostalgia of it is probably the most appealing thing, and it's really cool to check out all the old and newer sweets in all the jars. For kids and adults alike it's a bit of fun collecting some treats in a bag. It's really nice how they're weighed and must be said very nicely wrapped up as part of the service. As for the flavours I could take or leave them really. One of the soft red heart lollies we bought tasted like medicine, and was quickly disposed of in the bin (glad I'd talked my son into buying less at the time) and some others ok, but nothing special really...and this is from a fan of lollies and more so chocolates. There's also some quoits and stilts out the front, to play with and tables to take a seat if you wish.
K.
Today with three friends had a very moorish lunch. As well as the food, wine & coffee being Tops the service was Tops as well.I would recommend Birdwoods as one of the best eating spots in the Bay.
L.
A most perfect Autumn afternoon. The 4 of us had superb lunches and we all purchased a small memento from the Gallery.
H.
Great food and service. Didn't feel rushed, was allowed to linger over our meal. Eclectic mix of display and things for sale. Loved the sculpture garden (wanted to take the tree windchime home). Also loved the sweet shop.
L.
An interesting place which I have been to and enjoyed on many occasions but it has become far too expensive for the type of food served.
M.
One of the best places for a visit with family and even the family dog is welcome at outside eatting area around back, a dog friendly Restaurant/cafe. Room for supervised kids to run outside (water risk in far garden so supervise please) in the large grounds strewn with outdoor art pieces. Lovely fancy food, great service. Just took Mum for her Birthday with family and then on to Ocean Beach (20 min drive approx) for a walk on a lovely sandy beach. The lolly shop will have the kids eyes popping open at the sight of thousands of lollies. Expresso and plunger coffee available. Beautiful ice creams as well. The nick nacks inside are worth a look. Suggest ring book a table and the waitress will come take your order. Alternatively you can line up at the kitchen ordering window, but you can be behind a group of cyclists as I have seen. A destination in its own right allow 2 hours to eat and explore on a sunny day.
M.
Lovely food in very pleasant surroundings. Children also would be kept happy and the is a lolly shop there and ice cream
V.
Just beautiful out there. Coffee good and gluten free eggs Benedict worth eating!
I.
There is a fabulous cafe, a gift shop, an ice-cream shack with freshly made flavours. There is also a traditional sweet shop and an interesting sculpture garden.
Well worth a visit!
C.
Lovely lunch and ofcourse some yummy sweets from shop
E.
Great place to take kids for a trip through time to the sweet shops of the old days. The shop has a little park with a bench to sit and eat ice cream on a warm summers day. Will be coming back next time I'm in Havelock North!
H.
Beautiful setting. Amazing food.
T.
A great place to take the family for the afternoon. A nice cafe, excellent food and drinks. Excellent store with lots of African crafts. A beautiful outdoor area for the kids to run around, then top it all off with a visit to Ye Olde Sweet Shop for an amazing range of lollies and sweets. Plus there's some silly games to play. Always a fun visit.
L.
Food was Devine. Cuppa tea was too strong and a too longer line at sweet shop☹☹ grand children very disappointed. But aphoshire lovely and grpunds.
R.
Icon shop and restaurant in Hav.Nth. Worth a visit
A.
Such a beautiful place. My second visit. Beautiful gardens, staff, food. Shop is delightful and interesting. Amazing sculptures and the Sweet Shop is a must treat!!
c.
This is a quaint venue with a welcoming family feeling. We were able to be relaxed the entire visit. The welcome at the door was warm and genuine. The winter coffee in the conservatory is cosy. I particularly like the summer visits with coffee in the statue garden.
P.
Amazing place. Love the shop, the cafe is nice and the outdoors garden with art pieces are great. Lovely spot to bring visiting family or friends
M.
Interesting shop, lovely grounds and excellent cuisine. What more could one ask .Thank you again.
C.
Delightful garden setting with heaps of outdoor space. Ideal spot for young families with good food. Because it can get very busy you may have to be prepared for quite a wait, though.
J.
I love Birdwood, the setting is easy to get too, there's lots of sculptures to see in the grounds that appeal to children and adults alike. There are some old fashioned games for the kids to try, a nice Cafe and gift shop and best of all the Old Fashioned Sweet Shop. Good luck trying to get the kids out of there!! I'd recommend it to anyone.
T.
Beautiful food, always!! Stunning views. Their desert cabinet and sweet shop are just Devine 💚 One of my favourite places to visit.... weekly!!
B.
Very interesting has a nice cafe and shop plenty to look at.
H.
Charming as all hell, garden area is fun for kids to run around, the stuff they make is amazing... Not personally tried the cafe but given the care they put into every other aspect of the place, I'd imagine it's great c:
A.
Serene sculpture park with lots of space for kids to run around. Nice cafe and ice-cream place.
P.
Such lovely shops with lots to choose from. So many sweets and the real fruit icecream is devine
A.
Peaceful setting, artistic and creative African curios, Excellent food
K.
Beautiful setting, lovely food and great company! Ducks were nesting and the sculptures were in short supply because of Covid 19, sadly.
C.
Fantasticc choice.lollies. from long ago.to new style sour beasties.. our grandson. Loved them..a great place to spend some time and $$$..
R.
I love birdwoods and come regularly for the great food , great service and wonderful gallery indoors and outside. However didn’t stay and order as the children's menu was for 10 and under and the sole item was cheese and ham sandwich. Recommend removing age specification as the two 11 year olds with me felt very left out. Also recommend 2 more choices for the kids menu.
S.
Beautiful setting and fantastic service .The little touches like pansies on the deserts and asking us if we needed a rug as it was cold were awesome.
P.
Was a fabulous lunch, great food, wine and company. The grounds are great but the shop is fantastic, some different things and dear little sweet shop. A must to visit
M.
What a hidden gem, the lady greeted.me show me the.enamel bowl and glove.so I could put my hand In the lolly jars. So reasonable.too $3.50 per 100 grams. The gallery was a delight as well as the cafe and gardens
H.
Birdwoods is a delight to the eyes and to the taste buds. The garden setting is relaxing with beautiful trees and the most amazing sculptures which are available to purchase. We ate a delicious salad when we visited recently. It is an experience for visitors and locals.
J.
Exquisite surroundings.Delicious scones.Good coffee and service.Fabulous gift shop.
C.
Beautiful location, lots of lovely gifts inside, food pricey for amount and sadly the sculptures weren't out as delayed in arriving into NZ.
The sweetshop is cute a worth a visit on its own...plenty of your favourites on offer☺️
M.
Amazing statues set out in restful surroundings, followed by beautifully prepared tea/coffee/cakes/sandwiches in the comfortable cafe. The separate shop sells delicious unusual sweets and chocolates.
C.
Lovely cafe with nice food
M.
Beautiful gardens and yummy food and sweets
L.
Nice setting and food good, not a large selection for children or youth.
T.
A really nice setting for lunch.
C.
I just love to visit here.
The coffee and cakes are devine
The gallery is gorgeous, and soooo many things to look at.
Then to visit the cute lolly shop is a must do, for kids of all ages
Baby girl loves the huge grass area for running and checking out the Art in the garden
Always very busy with locals and visitor's to Hawkes Bay
T.
We haven't been in the Hawkes Bay long but Birdwoods Gallery and Cafe have fast become our favourite spot to relax and enjoy a coffee and a bite to eat. It is also dog friendly which really appeals to us and set in the most beautiful surroundings. Added bonus is the sweet shop and beautiful gift shop.
T.
One of the best art Cafe's in New Zealand. Enjoyed the food, art shop, grounds and the sweet shop.
C.
This place is amazing. From stilts in the garden to the nostalgic lolly shop, the kitchen the shop and the sculptures wow.
S.
Lovely cafe plus interesting nic nacks etc in the shop on site along with sculptures in the grounds
A.
Have been there twice when visiting the Hawked Bay. Fabulous food, gift shop and next door the old fashioned lolly shop. Will go again on my next visit to the Hawkes Bay.
Y.
So beautifully set out, gorgeous array of others, best coffee shop ever, the cakes are definitely Devine!! Loved the old English sweet shop and ice cream parlor. The gardens and sculptures are amazing
N.
The sculpture garden is pretty. The food is delicious. Best hot chocolate I have had. The sweet shop was so cute. The gallery was pretty. Great spot!
S.
Sort of place you can't resist once your there absolutely amazing array of sweets. Delightful lady behind the counter. First time visit next time will check out gallery and cafe (plus revisit the sweet shop)
M.
Very nice food at a reasonable price. Beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces. The interiors store screams 'middle class clutter' but otherwise all good for a look
J.
This is one of the best places to visit in Hawkes Bay it is so beautifull to sit and chill, with fantastic service and awesome food. It has everything you could possibly want for all ages. I love this place it is full of heart and love for what they are doing. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 I give 10 out if 10🤗
A.
An interesting place to have a meal, wander through the garden the craft & lolly shop. Well worth the visit
R.
Great place e to visit and friendly staff
S.
Lovely place to visit enjoyed the food...homemade and delicious..art and sculpture walk was very interesting...and the sweet door was delightful
k.
Amazing Cafe, great food and desserts.
K.
Very cool little sweet shop. You pick the lollies yourself from jars that line the walls and weigh your bounty at the end. The staff encourage you to taste any lollies you want before placing in your bag! Great stuff.
L.
A visit to please the whole family. A garden where children play and adults view the many fascinsting sculptors. Tea under the trees or in inside where one is able to look at the eclectic collection of art pieces and jewellery. But, wait, there is more! A little sweet shop where children pick out of glass jars the sweets they want to buy.
J.
This place is delightful... The selection of sweets is outstanding... From treats you haven't seen for decades to all to the current favourites theres definitely something for everyone.... Go next door and visit the beautiful cafe and shop... Great food and beautiful gardens out the back with unique art to buy or admire...
D.
Lovely food and service go u will love it
A.
Beautiful garden and good Coffee, would've liked to see more GF options though.
M.
We always take our out of town visitors here. It's great food coffee and theres always something to entertain kids. Great atmosphere and a nice garden to walk through as well.
R.
Lovely place for brunch. Im in love with the garden. So beautiful! Service and food was good too. A bit pricey for the size but wasn't a deal breaker.
J.
I can highly recommend Birdwoods, the gallery is full of unique work, and the cafe has food I'll go back for.
It is not a place to go for a quick visit, a walk around the extensive grounds to enjoy the beautifully crafted garden sculptures is a must.
H.
Great food and interesting shop and grounds. Note that there is only one 'breakfast' option on the weekends - better for a lunch out.
C.
Love everything about Birdwoods. Located 5 minutes out of Havelock this renovated church has a peaceful rural setting opening at the back onto gorgeous north facing gardens with a summer house for hire, contemporary statues of sheep and other animals that are for sale. Also the second garden with its large formal lily pond, more animal statues and gazebo. Inside is packed with goodies of all descriptions to buy many with an African theme and the cafe at the rear looks out over the gardens and more table settings around the large trees. Delicious fresh food is cooked on site daily and you can have a full meal or buy from the cabinet.
I can't visit Havelock without calling here for a coffee or home made lemonade and something freshly baked to eat which arrives beautifully presented on a wooden tray with napkin stand and fresh flowers, and the friendly staff complete the Birdwood experience. If you have children with you then visiting the old style lolly shop next door is a treat and recently an ice-cream cart has been added beside it. It's always 10 stars for me!
D.
For adults it brings out the kid in you. For kids it's a sweets wonderland. Get the supplied plastic gloves, grab a bowl and tongs and go mad, go crazy and mix sweets almost anyway you want. Most things are the one price so you can easily see what it's going to cost you.
N.
Amazing place to visit. Child friendly, a great big area for them to run around outside. Amazing stuff to buy and of course the lolly shop. Amazing food & coffee
M.
There was a lot of confusion about where the café reception was. It's actually in the gift shop. We were not the only ones who had this problem. The menu is limited however the food was excellent and service could not be faulted.
R.
Always come here when we can . Love this place
M.
Stunning place, great stop for a coffee, snack and a little walk around the sculpture garden to stretch up your legs if on a journey.
Q.
Absoltely stunning place, will advise to book in advance if you want to have a bite to eat...lovely garden and yummy sweet shop
G.
My partner and I have just come back from Birdwoods and we recommend in going there. The cafe where we had lunch the service and food was excellent.
J.
Beautiful! very well thought out and peaceful place for a great coffee & scones. Grandkids will love the lollie store.
R.
What a beautiful little place to find! Do not miss out on this one when visiting Hawkes Bay / Napier. Five min. drive out of Havelock North. The greatest place to bring kids. We just fell in love with it.
S.
Food was delicious, nice relaxed atmosphere. My boyfriend got the ravioli though and was very small portion. The cake filled the gap though 😁
K.
Good food and great surroundings, although Sunday 1pm food delivery time is very long time (40 mins) for salad, mushroom soup and avo mash on toast. Venue was extremely busy so maybe an extra pair of hands in the kitchen were required.
M.
A delightful experience, such a lovely setting.
C.
A wonderul cafe with the bonus of being able to wonder around lovely artifacts and gifts. Always a joy to visit.
K.
Lovely place. Great food and an interesting shop and a lot of sculptures in the garden
G.
Lovely stop for afternoon tea and a wander around the ground under the shade of mature trees. Great scones😀
J.
Great ambiance lovely sweet shop gardens and sculptures. Disappointed they wouldnt accept a booking of our group pre arrange definite numbers of 20 people for lunch?
Their reason they needed space for ?? (unknown numbers of walk ins.)
We traveled from Tauranga for a weekend away stayed a night in Taihape and on to hawkes bay via the gentle annie rd.to Havloch North then Napier for a night.
MX5 Car Club run. A great trip well planned enjoyed by us all.
M.
Excellent table service, beautiful food, relaxing ambience. The shop is a great digression too.
M.
Beautiful and a lot of fun. A must visit for any age.

This is one of my favorite places in the world. Beautiful things to look at (and buy), the cafe makes delicious food and the sweet shop is so fun!
D.
A quirky little place, full of neat knick knacks. They offer unique lunches, which are quite tasty. It is a nice place, but did not live up to the local reputation.
N.
Great ambiance and wonderful story. Food superb and welcoming staff. Take time to wander through the sculptures
M.
Lovely venue but the food was over priced and there were an excessive amount of flies around that we had to keep batting away from our food.
R.
Delicious food with the advantage of looking at the exotic goodies in the shop. Make a reservation on a wet day. Otherwise outside and the sculpture garden is a real delight.
A.
Had a lovely lunch and cup of real tea 🍵 the food was awesome 👌

N.
Food tasted great, but still hungry - a bit overpriced for the quantity.
Fake cooking chocolate in the sweet shop is awful though...feel like I should have been warned ☹
M.
Very busy today, great service still overall still a great experience a little pricey but not to bad lovely for all ages
S.
A rare unique jewel of Hawkes Bay. There truly is a special Something for every one. From a art gallery full of stories, and precious surprises, delectable and plentyful scones, cakes(all served with a generous helping of cream or yoghurt and spoonfuls of love) and café fare. Then take a stroll through the inspiring gardens that, while housing some stunning sculptures from the owners home lands of Zimbabwe, is both well maintained and still homey in feel. O the way back to the car make a final stop to see the lovely ladies of the lolly shop they have a unequalled rage of sweet both new and old, which you can pck and choose into your own little bowl to be run up with antique wooden til(or eftpos of course).
Everything truly does have a story at Birdwoods, I suggest you take a page from your diary and head down to hear and read some of them.
L.
