Reviews of Niagara Falls Cafe
A.
What a find - seafood chowder gorgeous and my friend loved her nachos. Lovely setting with fab gardens. Coffee was good too!! Well worth a visit. Staff really friendly
얍.
Awesome food! Staffs were so lovely and kind. Will definitely visit again!
C.
Cute cafe to visit. Dog friendly! Nice coffee (& the smoothies others were having looked delish too!) Ordered a lamb burger & a beef burger - delish!
D.
If you're going past, you may as well stop. This place is an oasis in a desert. The hot chips are also some of the best I've ever tasted. When we were there the main server was super friendly and our food was nice. Whoever maintains the gardens does a fantastic job and it's a really beautiful outdoor spot for somewhere to eat (they have indoor too - the gardens are just nice to be in).
B.
Popped in for a takeaway coffee and scone while visiting the Caitlin's. Wish we hadn't already had breakfast. Menu looked yum.
Recommend a visit if you're passing, great service and really good coffee!
D.
Nice place to visit..!! Quick food and so 😋 yummy. Second time I went up there.!!
B.
If you are visiting the Catlins then this cafe should be on your list! Beautiful old building, good coffee and food. Selection of cabinet food and a full menu. Cheese scones were fantastic
C.
On a cold rainy day when we were busting for breakfast, we came across this oasis 😊 Our breakfasts were superb, the coffee was really good, and the ambiance was perfect!
We toured right around Southland, and I would rate this place 10/10. They even have reasonably priced kiwiana for sale. Put this place on your 'must stop here' list.
Thank you for showing us some real Southern Hospitality ❤
J.
This little place saved us for our coffee fix! I don't drink soy and this cafe was the only one we found that did almond milk. This was going into winter so other cafes in the area were already closed for the season or didn't offer other milk substitutes. If you're in the same boat, don't bother going to Owaka, stop here instead. The coffees here were pretty decent and the place itself is quaint and picturesque. There are some cute souvenirs and local artwork for purchase as well. I also tried a chai latte with almond milk that was delicious. Nice little stop, definitely recommend it!
J.
Lovely garden setting. My coffee and muffin were really good. I seem to be the only one who didn’t feel too welcome..
B.
If you're staying in the area, Niagara Falls cafe is a worthwhile stop in a great setting. The meals though reasonably simple are good. Prices which seem quite high, are fair considering the cafe is quite a few kilometres from any major town or city. The only negative is that one of the staff members, possibly of German origin needs to be a bit more customer friendly.

This place was highly recommended by some of our friends. The cafe is nicely set up in what was a primary school, so the ambience, garden setting and building was really cool. We ordered fish and chips and was a bit disappointed the fish looked like it came from a frozen box. Since we were by the sea, we had high hopes for the price we were paying.
L.
Friendly staff, great coffee and food. Amazing open space to chill out and reenergise to keep exploring the area
C.
A lovely little spot if you’re driving through. Set in a historic old building that used to be a school, this was a cosy little lunch stop on our drive through The Catlins. The staff are warm, chatty and thoughtful. The seafood chowder was great and just what a cold day needed. The cafe also has a little store with some art, photos and trinkets for sale. A tiny selection of books as well and a batch of books you can borrow if you’re in the area ($2). A great stop in the Catlins and a sure recommendation.
A.
Old school converted into a cafe. Fantastic outdoor area, food & coffee is decent. Good place to stop to refresh after the beach or passing through. Recommend the nachos and sitting outside is good day.
M.
Lovely quaint cafe. Food and coffee great 👍.home made pies mouth watering.good atmosphere.
S.
Delightful, cozy warm and delicious baking. A perfect place to call in when traveling the scenic highway through Catlins
D.
Lovely old building with great food and service. And it was the only place open when we visited the Catlins last month. Very pretty gardens on a nice day.
K.
Lovely atmosphere and garden. Superb food and service. Highly recommend
S.
We stumbled across Nigara Falls Cafe towards the end of a long day's drive through the Catlins, and with few other options grabbed the opportunity to stop for a break.
We ditched our plans for coffee when we saw the smoothies on offer and had a very pleasant break sitting in their garden listening to the cows, and drinking the smoothies.
We'd already eaten so can't give a verdict on the food, but the menu had plenty of interesting choices.
M.
Excellent cafe in the Catlin's. Always friendly efficient service, great food and environment.
L.
lovely lunch, amazing food and stunning location. The lamb absolutely raccomended, and the staff was super nice!!
N.
Friendly staff, very helpful, nice warm stop after a cold wet ride from McLaren Falls.
F.
We had an excellent time stop here for a late lunch, fantastic soup and salad and great coffee. Highly recommend if you are in the Caitlans
K.
Loved this little gem of a cafe, friendly staff, great scones and delicious coffee. Worth a stop
A.
Good ambience, only cafe for miles. Friendly staff and plenty outdoor seating area.
F.
Really fascinating repurposed school. Great food. Helpful staff. Well worth a visit.
P.
Lovely cafe and super friendly staff. Great stop on the Catlins roadtrip
T.
UN-FREAKING-REAL
The meal I ordered was amazing!
Great service! Personable and attentive.
S.
You can have a twice killed cod with fries. or i prefer to say: fries with a bit of cod.
E.
Fabulous place loved it, coffee and cake were excellent.
B.
Nice place in unlikely location. I couldn't help but feel the whole place was screaming out to be more funky. Menu needed jazzing up (but love the commitment to local produce) and the building is fab so why not make the decor really quirky? Give it a point of difference!
C.
Husband and I there labour weekend 2021. Great atmosphere, helpful staff, wonderful food. Even gave us water for our dogs.
T.
Smoked salmon summer salad was so good. Stop in to this charming little cafe.
B.
We camped overnight at Owaka on the Catlins Scenic Route and when we found nothing open for breakfast we decided to press on. How glad we were about that decision when we came across the Niagara Falls Café, literally in the middle of nowhere. Set in an old school house, this place is delightful. The staff were super friendly (and our waiter entertained with some singing) and the rustic menu was delicious from my wife’s Eggs Benedict to my choice of the Southern Man Breakfast (very hearty). Beautiful setting overlooking the old school yard to the sheep paddocks. Make sure you stop here if you’re in the neighbourhood for an experience to remember.
L.
Great meals, wonderful coffee and friendly service. Highly recommended
N.
Lovely venue and food. Super friendly helpful staff.
N.
Lovely little cafe in the Catlins - stunning outdoor area, with plenty of room. Nachos were lovely.
The only reason this wasn’t 5 stars - no aircon in the building and was unbearably hot. You simply could not remain inside for any length of time. Additionally we were eaten alive by bugs and the cafe would only sell repellent (at a high $19 price) - same for sunscreen. They noted that people kept stealing them, so I understand not providing it, but a more reasonable sale price should be offered.
N.
This Csfe is fantastic staff are super friendly & food is very good 👍
M.
Nice café but a little expensive. Had the nachos which was big enough for two people, and the lamb burger which was nice, but the bread used for it made it hard to eat (too thick, not appropriate for a burger).
L.
Great service, great food, nice staff
j.
Nice late lunch on a lovely day. Sat outside in the sun (started melting the choc chips in my cookie). Good strong coffee.
B.
Very nice. However, another place that charges extra for soy, and decaf??
D.
This place is very beautiful, lovely outside seating, staff are super friendly. They even gave my wife a small bowl of icecream with a candle in for her birthday.
F.
Lovely place in the middle of nowhere. Friendly staff. Top food. Daughter and wife obsessed by the chips. Sonnloved being able to get out and fire the Frisbee around while waiting
I.
Excellent stop over to curio Bay. Very friendly and helpful folks. The cupcakes were delicious . We tried the "atomic" coffee latte and it was excellent. Also had pasta with olives they made specially for our daughter and berry smoothie. Beautiful garden and also clean restrooms. Would recommend highly for the stopover going to Curio bay.
Y.
Great vege soup and the nacho's would have to be the best eaten so far 👌 The cafe was very overheated tho, with heat pump and the sun streaming through the windows.
K.
The food was all homemade and very fresh. We loved seeing the pride the Cafe showed in their local heroes
J.
Seriously good food! Warm welcome from the staff. Portion sizes are unreal. You wouldn't go hungry here!
As it was quiet, we got talking to the brother of Para Olympian Laura Thompson and was shown all the medals on show and awards she'd won.
Such a unique place. Well worth the stop if you need to refuel.
Thank you Niagra Falls Cafe!
A.
Love this converted old schoolhouse. Nice grounds to sit outside, decent food and don't forget to see the falls across the road...
R.

Very special cute cafe. When we were there, a live band by local ladys playing nice relaxing music made countryside atmosphere.
W.
Good food and service nice place
M.
Awesome setting, delicious food. The carrot cake, seafood chowder and nachoes were tops! Can recommend!
l.
Located within a charming old building and garden setting. Conveniently located and family friendly. The food was fine, but not memorable. They did have an interesting local craft brewery selection.
R.
Very nice food and setting, quite busy which is good. Smoothie was to die for. Pretty close to 5 stars.
R.
Such a fantastic spot! Beautiful scenery, delicious food and amazing coffee. Well worth the drive from Invercargill just to visit here.
T.
Great coffee (atomic). Massive breakfast this morning with lashings of bacon (Southern Man). Great burger lunch too. Highly recommend their freindly service.
K.
Had a great day at Niagara Falls bluegrass festival
M.
Yes, it's the only real option in the area, but that doesn' t mean they take things easy. Great, honest, homemade meals, locally sourced or even homegrown. The location is worth the visit in itself, and after you've recovered laughing from the very nearby, grantly (and ironically) named Niagara Falls, do stop by this place.
L.
Such a lovely surprise! A nice oasis in the midst of the country roads (mostly gravel ones). Friendly service. Good coffee and smoothy. Very relaxed enjoyable ambience.
A.
Fantastic carrot cake, not too sweet
R.
nice country side setting. good ambience. prices on the high side and no trim milk on hand. staff were friendly.
A.
Called in here for lunch today absolutely fantastic food and great service great conversation loved it here we can't wait to go back to check out the breakfast menu top food and service well worth calling in here we walked the 3hour track to the waterfalls before hand hard going but this cafe stop made it all better
B.
Food is okay and price is touristy. But they got a great backyard. So, order some shake and fries and grab a seat outdoors or under the tree.
C.
Delicious food and good atmosphere. A gem in the middle of nowhere.
L.
Great cafe along the south scenic drive route. Food and service were great. They had a few sheeps and a lovely big garden where the kids had fun.

D.
A nice meal served by a very pleasant woman, we would definitely go back
s.
There is not a lot of choice around the area. This is a cafe which opens at night, very limited menu, pricey for what you get, home made herb bread great with soup, but for your burger!
D.
Served by a great bloke on the counter. Coffee and caramel slice hit the spot
G.
Unbelievably pleasant staff; left with free end-of-day pastries after they stayed open to serve us an excellent dinner.
S.
Awesome place ! Service was extremely friendly, and the food was really good ! One of these (many) remote jewels you will find in New Zealand !

(Translated) Nice cafe. The entrance looks inconspicuous but behind it lies a small pearl in an old school building. The coffee is very good but everything is surpassed by the house smoked salmon. You have to try it.

(Translated) A cafe similar to a museum. In the building of a former school, built in 1893. As exhibits, numerous New Zealand souvenirs on the shelves around the perimeter of the room. Nice view of the very well-kept garden. The walls are decorated with paintings. There is a photo of the New Zealand Paralympic team and real Paralympic medals. Decent dishes. The staff is professional.
