Very tasty food. I got the buttermilk chicken sandwich, which was fab. Bit hard to cut with my blunt knife though. I also got a banana milkshake, it was nice but not a real banana one more the fake flavoured type one so that was a shame.

Nicely set out, comfy with decent background music at a good level to allow for a chat. Excellent, friendly service, great coffee and the yummy range of slices and cakes in the cabinet is well priced. I had their WOAP burger entry and of the 6 burgers Ive had around Wgtn theirs is so far the best. Definitely worth a visit again sometime soon

Came in on a busy weekday. Staff were a little slow at recieving our order, but once done food and drinks arrived fairly quickly. Vietnamese Chicken salad wasn't bad, plenty of flavour but was missing the mint. I had a salmon bagel which was nicely presented. But most importantly the sweet as chocolate challenge hot chocolate was delicious, dark & slightly bitter 👍

Absolutely scrumptious brunch at Bellbird! The staff welcome you and attend to your needs promptly offering Menu or cabinet food to eat in or takeaway. Prices are competitive and if you get there early there's plenty of choice.

Delicious Vietnamese chicken salad although very spicy so be warned if you don’t love spice. Seafood chowder and buttermilk chicken sandwich were also enjoyed. Service was fairly good, friendly staff. Free sparkling water is a bonus ;)

Delicious food, great vibe and very popular cafe in central Lower Hutt. My Vietnamese chicken salad was very tasty. It is also reasonably priced. If you're looking for something casual, tasty and well priced then I'd highly recommend. Just be aware: it's very busy so either reserve a table or be prepared to wait a bit.

Awesome atmosphere and great tasting food! This place is one of our hutt favourites. This is the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich with fries - one of our go to whenever we’re here.

Probably one of the best places to eat in Hutt city. We went here to try their Welly on a plate dish and it was excellent, slow cooked lamb with gravy and veg. My wife also had a fried chicken sandwich which I also though was very tasty. Prices aren't bad and the place itself has nice modern decor and outdoor seating. Recommend it if you are in the Hutt.

My elderly mother was seated at 10.40. I arrived with my grand daughter. After walking to a table with 4 stools when a female staff member approachednd said under Covid only 2 persons can sit at the table. While I appreciate social distancing is required the distance for 2 persons was not different for a third. And her approach for this nonsense was confronting. She did not provide any alternatives while others continued to be seated. Not a friendly environment at all.

Usually really happy with the coffee and the food, however, this time (maybe due to the fact that it was really busy) the large flat white had way too much foam and was very milky, so we took it back and asked for another one. Sadly the replacement was still very milky, so a fail on the coffee this time. The pizza was ok, but not amazing. I expected the chorizo to have some chili but it was completely mild and bland.

Lovely atmosphere, talented kitchen staff, delicious food, superb coffee and serving staff with personality plus! Unfortunately all this amazingness is let down by a lack of robust systems. I would imagine everything runs well on a normal day - but the wheels fall off when the cafe gets super busy. I saw several instances of orders delivered to the wrong table, customers waiting too long to order, and orders that were forgotten. All of these take away from the profitability and reputation of the cafe and could be easily fixed. Otherwise awesome cafe!

A very reliable favourite place of ours - good for kids as its a quite a noisy space. Does consistently good coffee. They also do a mean lolly cake, and the best fries ever!

Great food and service. A really interesting menu with a diverse range of offerings. All three of us enjoyed our meals (which ranged from a steak meal, soft taco shells and a thai salad). They have both indoor and outdoor seating (which was ideal of a sunny day) and the cafe looks out across the courtyard next to the Dowse Art Gallery in Lower Hutt. The meals were very reasonably priced (all under $20) and the serving size was generous. The service was friendly and professional. I would definitely recommend this venue for brunch or lunch, especially on a typical sunny day in the Hutt Valley 🙂

Their attention to detail is notable from the quality napkins to your choice of free plain or sparkling water from the fountains to the ingredients they use. visited last week, the ambience was beautiful especially when sitting near the windows. they appeared to be overstaffed, as they were a little too attentive but chirpy and kind nonetheless. I ordered the burger and it wasn't until 5 minutes after I ordered it that I was informed that it was unavailable. we found this strange that someone could run out of burgers - on a Sunday afternoon, you'd think they have a surplus! additionally, the wait staff should have been told prior. this wasn't a big deal, however, and I ordered the sirloin. meal was great and good value for the price. coffee was average and a little over extracted. however, as I said earlier the staff were friendly and I overall enjoyed my experience :) would return to have the burger as I'm sure it would've been superb!!

Nice food. Had the Vietnamese chicken salad - beautiful flavours. Maybe a little heavy on the coriander. Teenage kids had hot cakes with berries and bacon and enjoyed them. The prices are a little on the high side compared to some other local cafes, but free sparkling water with a slice of lemon is great. They do get busy, as food and location is great, so sometimes it is hard to get staff attention if you need something. They have, on a couple of occasions, forgotten our drinks and we have had to go to the counter to ask for them. But overall very happy with food and service.

We visited here first in 2017 when it opened....here is that review: You have to wait at the entrance now and be seated. unlike a cafe now. we were told they had no tables free so we should go to the gallery and come back later. not a good introduction. they could have invited us in, given us a glass of water and the menu and allowed us to wait inside. so they blew the hospitality aspect of running a cafe/ restaurant. I wanted to go somewhere else but my wife was hungry so we came back within 2 minutes just as about 8 people were leaving...proving they could have welcomed us and seated us quickly instead of sending us away. Then we were seated and given a menu and told to get our own water...no service offered. Then we had to go and ask the waitress who was talking to her work friend at the counter and ignoring our efforts for 5 minutes to get her attention. We had to leave our table and go tell her we needed her...she never bothered to check on us again. The meals came and the coffee was very good...the food was ok. But no bill came when we were finished. we went up and waited 3 or 4 minutes while two people tried to work out someone elses bill...they did not even look up and smile and say be with you soon...just left us waiting while they talked. and when they did finish the person did not know what table we were at so we told them..and then she told us what she thought we had....which was not our bill. I left at this stage and my wife is much more polite stayed and paid for us. These guys are very amateur. Not a well run place. We used to love the cafe at the Dowse but boy its gone off now. It was like they were all trainees. BUT the coffee was excellent. Another visit on saturday June 20th 2019. Excellent food, we both enjoyed our mains which were reasonably priced and were of really good quality. Well done. But service is still very patchy.. Very lovely young people milling around. No water offered. No cutlery on table, and then bought to us...but with no napkins, I had to go to another table and get them. Still very dreamy under trained wait staff, who are very nice but sort of not quite with it.

Lovely outlook over the grounds of the Dowse Square for lunch or coffee outside on their raised "deck", especially on fine, sunny days with good parking close by. If you're visiting the Dowse Art Museum the BE would be a great place to wind up your trip where you can get a good cup of coffee and more without having to leave the Dowse Square (and thus avoid the inner-city parking hustle and hassle!).

I find it really hard to disassociate the Lower Hutt of today with that of my bogan youth but it seems way better than back in my day especially around that council precinct. Queensgate remains the awful monstrosity to avoid at all costs that it always has been but the Dowse is a haven of creativity and progressiveness. The café there is a big part of that. Excellent food, friendly staff, very accommodating of children, EV friendly, cyclist friendly, no plastic straws so environmentally friendly and they make a damn fine coffee. I will come here again no doubt. This place is nouveau bogan. They get us and it's great.
