Reviews of Sugar Plum Cafe

in our experience to date, the south island ranked as being the best for date and orange scones, Sugar Plum has just shifted the balance, friand, carrot cake and coffee also did not dissapoint, Marton has a very skilled baker here.
W.
Staff, food and coffee was fantastic i will definately go back worthwhile
P.
A cool little Cafe to stop for coffee or a bite to eat if your passing through Marton.
S.
Excellent food and friendly staff. Will go back again next time
P.
Stopped for a late breakfast with the family and the grandparents. I had the big breakfast, the kids had pancakes and my wife had a BLT. Everyone enjoyed their meals and coffees. The kids also had banana smoothies which they said were yum. We sat by the fire which was nice and cosy. Would definitely go there again.
S.
Love this little Cafe! Delish food and great staff
B.
Great service and sandwiches
Thank you
Will be back to try cooked meal
S.
First time, already had smiles everywhere 😍 Lovely atmosphere, and also warm indoor & outdoor areas. Worth the money 😊
S.
Nice atmosphere, good food excellent coffee
T.
Went Saturday a.m. Had the most delicious date & orange scone ever! Excellent service, lovely ladies! And a very good coffee! Best cafe in Marton! 😁
c.
So impressed with this cafe and the service. We were a party of around 30 people who stopped at this cafe for lunch without any prior notice. We were welcomed and told that there may be a delay because of the numbers which we expected. However we were amazed that the meals and drinks arrived within 10mins of each couple ordering. The service was the best I have experienced in a long time. The coffees and other drinks were served first with the food following immediately after. We all got exactly what we ordered and every meal looked good and tasted delicious. Always a good sign when there are no empty plates.
There is plenty of space and tables inside and out in the courtyard. All the staff were friendly and welcoming and the coffee was good which is important to me. Definitely worth stopping at if you are in the area.
r.
Great Quantity and Quality. The staff were very nice. Good for the town to have this place ,will be my weekly go to. I had the waffles 😋and iced chocolate, i was very happy with them. THANK YOU SO MUCH. 😊
K.
I really enjoyed morning tea with a friend here and it is sad that it is closing😢
M.
Went on recommendation, historic building with untapped potential, which I understand is for sale. I am tempted, however there is lots of work involved. If you are young , and ambitious, go for it, live above the shop, or develope that too.
The priced are a bit high $7.50 for carrot cake, and they close at 3.30pm.

First time I have been since it moved from State Highway 1. The staff member that served us went out of her way to ensure that the food was Gluten free. Food, as always, was amazing. The staff member was great with the children. I preferred the old decor, but everything else was top notch. Thank you!
E.
Amazing lunch! Fish & chips and Chicken Ceasar Salad sampled. These were absolutely delicious, well presented and fresh. A MUST stop if in the area. Real friendly staff... HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
B.
You have to go to this cafe. I had the open chicken sandwich - wonderful balance of flavors and a generous serve. My wife had the quiche and raved about it. Coffee was excellent and we got 3 cups of tea out of the tea pot. Ambience is relaxed, service is pleasant, efficient and low key. A well deserved 10 out of 10.
C.
Have been here several times over the past year installing air con / Heat Pumps in different parts of the building. Coffee is great, kitchen is very clean, and the food I've tried has been great too. Last time I was here the trays of huuuge sausage rolls coming out the oven smelled and looked incredible!
C.
This place makes seriously good coffee and has lots of different kinds of seating areas - indoors, outdoors, table and chairs, coffee table and comfy lounges. Plenty of interesting reading material. They also have an eating option of 4 small pieces of different slices on one plate. This is most helpful when you can't decide which one you want😊
M.
It moved from SH1 to Marton but still gret coffee, food and service. When we returned at 3.30pm from an 80k cycle ride it was actually closed but they let us in we had a late afternoon tea.
C.
Situated just off Main Street is a cafe which used to be an old granery built in 1856
Good to see it is still being utilised and brought back to life. You can understand the sloping floor and old world rustic charm.
On entering there are hints of local paintings for sale and knitted tea cosys.
Highchairs are available for the wee ones and there is a cosy corner with couch.
Shabby chic is decor and seating comfortable and ladies are very hospitable.
Ebony coffee with a fudge slice lollie nice treat.
I ordered sausage roll which had been microwaved so pastry was soggy and roll flavoursome thankfully there was plum sauce to add flavour. A bit more love and few minutes in oven whole lot difference.
For $5 salad offer though most other cafes it’s free.
Their menu I found to be expensive compared to other cafes.
However the carrot cake is absolutely delicious and more than single serve.
T.
One of our favourite cafes. Always enjoyed the Thai Beef Salad, still do, but recently noticed that the salad is become a wee bit drab Needs to get to the one we loved, easily fix though. Just a bit more of the sweet spicy sauce.
Hopefully next visit will see the reinstallation of 5 stars.

Lovely cafe out of town, fantastic service!
A.

T.
Really great place to stop off on a drive through. Great fast service and the food was really good. Mostly breakfast and brunch menu but also has kids menu. We sat outside and watched the farmer and sheepdogs rounding up the sheep in the neighbouring field - kids loved it!
v.
Great Cafe great service and excellent fresh food. Cabinet food looked great and great variety of delights to choose from. Breakfast was excellent. We high recommend this Cafe.
V.
Very good cafe on SH1 but unfortunately moving soon to a new location in Martin in what looks like a very cool building, ex grain store dating back to 1865. Typical cafe offerings, friendly staff. Lighter brunch option was a toasted bagel with garlic butter, olives, bacon and sun dried tomato, it worked well and hit the spot. Bach coffee was well made and very good
L.
I go there about once month always great coffee the food is mostly great but I am not a fan of the way they do a BLAT Staff friendly and attentive
J.
Very nice. Good coffee, apparently roasted in Palmerston North and not bitter like Wellington coffee. Real cream on the scone and not out of a can. Interesting art work around the walls for sale.
B.
Very cozy little cafe with lots of great food options! Hot and cold food and some of the best coffee in the area. Modestly priced but good if you're looking for something better then fast food!
A.
Came for lunch with some friends. Food was good, coffee was good and staff very friendly. A pretty standard NZ cafe experience, everything was good but not amazing, probably your best option in Marton.

Great food and nice staff in an old house with a courtyard. They were flat out when I last went, but that's testament to the cakes, meals and cabinet food. Child friendly. A favourite.
