Amazing service at The General! Staff were amazing and super helpful, service was quick, coffee was fab and food was Devine! The best French Toast I’ve ever had.

If you're living for the weekend and searching for that caffeine hit with some decent food action, go no further than the General. I went on a Monday, so seating was easy pickings. Head there on the weekend and you'll be flicking the waiter $100 to get a seat. Get in there early for sure on Saturdays and Sundays to get their wicked Pulled Pork Asian Slaw Rolls, or one of their Beetroot Buns with Avo, chicken and Brie. Filll up those hungry teenagers on Pork & Fennel sausage rolls with a mountain of sweet treats on their counter to choose from. The toilets were clean and staff were super helpful. There's parking down the side but they'll be gone in a blink of the eye on the weekend. Yep, you'll be forking out an easy $100 for savoury, sweet treats and drinks for a family of 4, but who cares? It's not often in Tauranga that a cafe gets it all right right?!

Coffee was good but service was slow. We ordered 2 takeaway coffees but it took 20 minutes to get them on a non peak hour. Seems like only one person was making the drinks vs a bunch of people were serving. Not one to question their operations but the overall experience would have been better if it would be faster.

The wait between our food and drinks was too long, one member of our group didn’t get their food until over 45 minutes after the person before and then my coffee didn’t come until after then even though we all ordered at the same time and I enquired where it was.

Excellent! The fact that this place is constantly packed out says it all. Very hard working staff as well. I went to a top Auckland restaurant last week and paid ten times the price and it wasn't even half as good. More fool me.

Delicious breakfast, but expensive, so make sure you bring your $$$. Worth it if you're after a delicious breakfast. The coffee was delicious, really smooth. The mushrooms are spicy, spicier than you think they will be. Eggs on toast, with a side of avo & mushrooms (the avo was massive!) was delicious. Reminds me of aussie eateries by the beach. It was busy so we had to go up and order ourselves, plus it was so busy, so there was waiting, would of been a 5-star rating if we had gotten our orders at the table etc. as i saw some people were able too. Same with the bill. Took ages to pay the bill, while others were paying the bill at the table. To comend them, they tried their best, but they were so busy and looked understaffed! Either way, will be back :)

The best coffee I ever had in NZ. After being here for 6 years I finally got an unburnt coffee! I'm fussy with my coffees so I was very pleased with the coffee here. (why does everyone else burn the coffee....?) The breakfast was outstandingly delicious as well. I highly recommend "The General". Keep up the good work.

Had the pancakes for breakfast and OMW that was delicious. It was a huge portion but I forced the last bits down. One of my workmates had the Eggs Benedict and I was dissapointed at the portion size and the small bit of salmon on this serving.

A neat little place tucked away off the main drag of the Mount CBD. It was a very busy cafe which was a little loud at times. The food was amazing and had a great selection of cabinet food. Highly suggest stopping here after going round or up the mount for breakfast!

Came here for lunch after climbing the Mount with some friends. Service was on the slower side but it was extremely busy - we did have to wait a while to find ourselves a table. I had the Loaded which seems like their “Big Breakfast” option which lived to the expectations of the name. Only downside is the portions are a bit small for the price range, but I feel that this is about on par given the area.

Service was prompt and very friendly. They have unusual names for things, which does make you read the menu rather than heading straight to a favorite. I had the 'Because', which is basically their take on Eggs Bene. The dish was great, very generous serving of bacon :) and big fat slice of delicious sourdough bread. The coffee (long black) was also excellent.

Good location, staff friendly and food was good, delivery wasn't fast but not too slow. Was disappointed that I was asked to pay extra $6 at the end for an order error as they forgot my bacon with my meal even though we asked for B & E. They couldn't provide evidence of this so I had to take their word for it, saying I never asked for it. Ummmm. Surely it would be their mistake, at their cost not something I had to cover. being an expensive side of bacon at that. Almost got a 3🌟 but gave benefit of the doubt.

Oh my goodness. I think I may have just had the breakfast of my life! Soooooo good! It was worth the wait for a table! We had mon Amore and Because and shared between us! The French toast especially delicious with incredible flavours spread across the plate! We will be back! Now a note from miss 10: it was amazing the food was exquisite and very filling. The waitresses greeted you kindly and was extra nice. It did take long for the food but it was worth waiting. I recommend this place if you like a nice sweet or savoury breakfast .

This place offers good coffee. However, the food is completely made for Instagram photos - over the top pretentious but not over the top yummy. 😰 the restaurant also has serious access issues : I blocked the same waitress twice as I was getting water! All you need to do is to remove one table and suddenly you might even be able to serve customers with mobility issues!

We ordered the granola which had a delicious combination of flavours however for $17 I felt the portion was too small and we were left feeling hungry. Even just more of the yoghurt (the menu says labneh but it wasnt thick) would have helped as it came with a very small ramekin worth. We ended up buying a scone to fill the gap which was one of the best I've had. Coffee was good if a bit slow and service was friendly and reasonably attentive

Wow. The General is what the mount has been in need of for a while, a fresh take on what brunch should & could be, with a hint of middle eastern flavs rocking in there. Completely loved it and if I lived at the mount I would get coffee and breaky here every day.
