This gorgeous cafe is a hidden gem in Nelson! Absolutely stunning ambiance for a relaxing weekend . Extremely friendly and courteous staffs with great service. Kudos to the team! Food over here was impeccably impressive!! One visit is definitely not sufficient to curb your cravings! They have a wide selection of desserts which is a cherry on the cake for me. Totally loved the experience. Looking forward to my next visit for their extremely gorgeous High Tea! For starters, We had potato w sauté mushrooms with two eggs , for mains ,we had the roast meal which was just heart filling ♥️ and also Creamy mushrooms. For desserts, we had a super creamy and rich lemon posset and also a chocolate cake which was absolutely decadent! It’s a must must visit place!

Great menu, good food, good prices, excellent service. The ladies at this venue could give lessons in table service. We had a lovely lunch and were very impressed. A must visit venue if in nelson.

Well-presented, affordable and tasty. Really enjoyed relaxing here for lunch. Tables inside, out on the deck or on the lawn in the sun (you choose). Friendly staff.. Everything was presented beautifully and my friend and I both enjoyed our mains - salmon gravlax (not pictured) and pan seared salmon with smashed peas (pictured). My slice of rhubarb yoghurt cake was quite large, but when I requested a box to take half home for later, the staff kindly cut it before serving and put half aside for me in a box to save me the trouble. Main was nicer than dessert but the lemon dessert pictured was lovely.

A much more exciting breakfast venue than the old style interior suggests. The menu here is really innovative and if you are looking for something more than average eggs on toast I would give this place a go

From interior design prospective, A few beautiful things I would like to highlight here. 1. How apply the blue and green tiles around the old fire places. 2. Use the flowers as the theme for the arts on the wall and deco the food. 3 the big attraction is to access some rooms with the historic furnitures and see the Victoria interior design style. Melrose Cafe could have made the interior design feature more attractive based on this very social social history house. 1. The exterior colour scheme of whole building: only applying white and grey here, make the huge building looks pale in the strong sun without clear outstanding frame line. 2. From outside to inside, no clear theme to be shown to feel the continuous flow. 3. The wallpaper takes the darkness instead of refreshing feeling. All the best

Amazing food, really nice staff and great for dogs, I suggest exploring around the house because it is beautiful. Now to the food in depth. I got a platter, Best platter I've had in a while, great cheeses,meat and crackers. Drinks were great, I suggest getting the lavender soda. Overall 10/10

We had a lovely afternoon sitting by the rose garden, experiencing the high tea the Melrose House Cafe offer. The tasty morsels were not only presented beautifully but tasted as good as they looked! We had a choice of cold beverages or teas to accompany. Staff were kind and friendly 🙂

Such an amazing place! We just moved to Nelson and this will definitely be a regular cafe to go in the future. Love how they serve food with the fresh rose. And it’s also very yum.

A very special cafe as it is a historical building. A well spend over there as the environment is cozy. Highly recommend the all day breakfast, it's very delicious! The cost of menu is medium high but it's worth! Hope can try the high tea set next time, it's look nice too!

Wow, wow wow. We made it here for breakfast today. What a high class, upmarket yet unpretentious place. The homestead and grounds are amazing. Staff incredibly friendly and helpful. The food is simply superb. Top notch, fresh healthy and very good value. This is quite simply a beautiful place on every level. We recommend it highly and will certainly be back. Not sure that there is a reason to have breakfast anywhere else in Nelson.

The staff looked after our party of young ladies with ease. Top marks for food and service! Hosting a high tea for kids and treating them as good as the adults! Thank you everyone there, you made a special occasion very special indeed.

Had high tea there yesterday , the platter was beautiful, everything was delicious BUT the cups that were on our table, two out of the three had dirty rings around them from the tea, this is not acceptable when you are paying good money for high tea, all cups should be rubbed with salt to get rid of these stains they replaced them without any problems. Also new aprons for the staff would not go astray. Service was great.

$30 per person for high tea. Was not regret for the ambiance and surrounding.

We were seated on the deck in the sun, overlooking the gardens. Grilled haloumi salad super yum, best I've had. Well put together, with lots of flavour and texture. Wines on menu limited selection but really good quality. Great spot for a mid week lunch

Went there for lunch on Monday. Only 1 chef and 2 waitresses on and they were amazing. So friendly and did such a great job looking after everyone when it was so busy. Plus can’t complain about the yummy food and beautiful atmosphere

Stunning place, food I had was great.

Overall an average experience; expensive for two slices of cake and two sodas at $32. The cakes were nice but one was stale, perhaps pre cut from the day before. After our first drink options weren’t available we ordered an elderflower soda, which had no elderflower flavour at all, and a “pink lemonade” which was red- so unsure if we received the correct drink. Pretty interior decor and nice settings though.

Really nice setup, you can sit on the veranda or inside. The grounds are beautiful and Melrose House is one of Nelson's finest historic timber buildings. The food and service was great.

Couldn't wish for anything nicer, than sitting at a table, on the vehrander at Melrose House having Hightea.among some of the most beautiful Rose's. I have ever seen. Exquisite home made food delights.A must Celebration, Birthday, Anniversary , or treat yourself.I will go again. Judi Billens.

A beautiful setting in a truly romantic building. The food was delicious, my green eggs and ham were devine! My rose lemonade was a highlight!

Lovely location. My partner and I had a delicious breakfast here this morning. I had the Haloumi salad with Israeli cous cous. I was happy with my choice it was great with interesting flavours, healthy too. Sharron had lemony pea mash that was also praised for flavours. We both enjoyed our meals. Lovely garden setting.

Melrose house is a wonderful place for tea or coffee serving delicious cakes and savouries in a beautiful old house. Food and drinks are served using lovely antique china cups and plates. In summer you can sit outside in the garden which makes it an extra special place to go.

It feels special to go to Melrose, beautiful house and gardens. Great coffee and teas, amazing cabinet food and menu. Treat your Mum, Daughter, Grandma, friends with ordinary Cafe prices.

We love visiting Melrose House. Have done many a child's birthday High Tea Party there and have always had a fantastic result. Staff are very accommodating and friendly.

We had a nice dinner here. My husband reserved a table via internet and requested for a table by the front window. We had a nice view but you must go there around 6pm to enjoy the view. Or else, it will be too dark to see things. Food was good. I loved brichetta here and caesar salad with blackened fish. Lamb was delicious. Pumpkin and chickpea soup was yummy.

Loved it here. Will definitely go back. A gorgeous wee place that we have neglected to visit and always thought ' will pop in one day' .. Can't believe we waited so long. Went for brunch on my birthday and staff were so accommodating. Amazing food came out super quick and coffee was great. Couldn't believe how reasonably priced it was for such a dreamy experience either. Beautiful, thanks for a gorgeous birthday brunch!
