The Best cafe in Taranaki! Awesome food and coffee, great gf and vegan options, arty decor, but the stand out is the exceptional service with actual personality! I assume the guy that served us owns the place, because he had such humourous yet genuine interactions with us. If he's not the boss he should be!

Baked eggs were brilliant. While there is no kids menu, the staff were very happy to throw something together for our boys. The coffee was pretty good. When we visited the staff did a great job but it seemed like they were at least one staff member short. My wife's Vaccine Pass was checked...mine wasn't.

LOVE this cafe. We came here two days in a row as the food was just too good not to try more. The staff are so welcoming and friendly. They were literally chaos the first day we came but they handled it like champs. Highly recommend here. Thanks Chaos 😊

We’ve discovered that New Plymouth has a collection of good cafes and this is one of the best we’ve been to. The kedgeree/Break-Xit and the eggs Shashuka were both delicious and the Summer Daze smoothie refreshed. (All three are shown). Enjoy. We did.

Busy, well spaced out, brunch place. Place is well looked after and staff look after their customers as well. Food is well flavoured, with a good selection to choose from. Although the scrambled tofu we ordered can work with something to neutralise it, like an avo or a ciabatta on the side. Coffee was good and honey ginger tea was refreshing. Would recommend the cafe.

The friendliest service we've had in a while. So easy yet bloody uncommon in the service industry these days. Really lovely staff. Great prices and the most delicious aztec spicy hot chocolate and creamy porridge. Porridge was a little sweet but I'll ask for no brown sugar on top next time. Great place with an excellent atmosphere. Excellent coffee hubby gave it 5/5 my mocha was also great! The chocolate bar on the side of the mocha and iced chocolate is a excellent bonus! Our son said best muffin he ever had.

We stopped by for a few drinks. The hot chocolate was one of the best I have ever tasted and the chocolate stick that come with the drink made the drink even more special. My mates got the sausage roll and a cakes snacks which they also enjoyed. We were also made to feel very welcome by the staff who work there and had a great atmosphere. Thank you I highly recommend coming here if your in New Plymouth.

Visited on a busy Sunday and found the place buzzing. Friendly staff and the Eggs Bene were great - two big free range eggs and (plenty) bacon or salmon (not small) with tasty coffee and tea. Staff quick to spot a better table and helped move over. Good atmosphere and reasonable prices.

This place is something different and inline with the Cafes in Wellington. Great vibes and ultra relaxed when you walk in and very friendly staff. I ordered my usual coffee (that I normally get down in Welly) and much to my surprise they serve single shots rather than the usual double. So I tailored it and the guy (sorry name escapes me) helped me out further by charging me for just the one extra shot. Breakfast was great and arrived quickly and was delicious - had the eggs bene. Will be back here tomorrow for pancakes.

Incredible food. I went here for the first time today with a girlfriend of mine, we both had Eggs Benedict and it was amazing! Perfect portions! Iced chocolate was a generous size. Very very reasonable prices. Would highly recommend to anyone who wants to visit a cafe with a bit of a funky vibe. Overall a very nice place. Definitely want to visit again and give some of the other food a go!

A very vibrant place to sit and have breakfast or lunch. A shame it's not open til later. I'd love to come and enjoy a wine and dinner in this atmosphere! Huge selection of food and drink, nice staff and good music. Caters to all dietary requirements. A little pricey but some things are well priced. Worth it for a nice treat every so often.

Came here on Mother’s Day morning and it was definitely chaos... but organised chaos ;) Despite being flat out, staff were incredibly friendly and attentive and the food and drinks came out really quickly. Food was really yummy and looked great too!

Great coffee, friendly service, this is one of the nicer places to grab a coffee (and cake if your diet allows) and to either catch up with friends or just take a moment out of your day to relax on your own. Good selection of snacks, quiet enough to talk, but noisy enough to have atmosphere, its bright and spacious. Don't know if they still do them but order a hot chocolate and you got a bar of chocolate to melt in the drink itself!! Had to stop going for a while because of that!

Here for late breakfast, I had the waffles - the oat batter was a nice touch and the rhubarb and ginger a refreshing combo. Pretty decent menu for breakfast or brunch with standard fare uplifted a little. Service was a bit messy, it was a bit busy but meals came out at very different times and 1 item missed. Tasty food and fast turnaround even if the order wasn't spot on.

This is an amazing cafe. Eclectic mix of decor and menu. Vegan and vegetarian options as well as all the normal options. Both cabinet food and menu. Service was very fast with a few tables outside on the (sloping) pavement. The coconut milk turmeric latte was really nice.

Having earlier seen the cafe buzzing for Saturday brunch, I was enticed to visit Chaos later in the day for a coffee and cosy up with a book. The Havana coffee sign, a tug of nostalgia to my previous life in Wellington. I entered and was greeted at independent times by all 3 front of house staff, although clearly busy packing up after the lunch rush, I received great service and the staff were clearly well trained, and had their regular customers. The cabinet food looked almost too good to resist, and the cafe presented a well spaced out variety of seating options. It was about 2pm and I ordered 1 regular sized mocha to have in - general prices for barista mochachinos are $4.50-$5.50 so I didn't bother checking the board for prices, as I knew what I wanted. So you can imagine my surprise to hear "that'll be $7" and indeed $7 came up on the eftpos machine, as well as $7 next to it on the menu, as I stole a quick glance before inserting my card. Of course I was too shy to change my order after placing it and hoped it was a worth while investment! Just to be clear, all other coffees on the board were standard prices, just an unexpected $7 mocha. My mocha was served with a Whittakers milk chocolate bar on the side, which although delicious and is clearly the reason for the marked up price of the drink, I didn't necessarily want a "loaded mocha", let alone to pay extra for it. Overall, a nice drink, perhaps the lesson here is for me to always read the menu and prices before ordering a coffee! Otherwise, there is an opportunity to have a regular mocha on the menu @ $5, and offer an upgraded "loaded mocha" @ $7? Just an idea! I loved the cafe vibe and artwork relating to the Chaos before the big bang, good selection of food and from the business I saw at brunch must be a spot to try in the near future :) Thanks Chaos.

Yep, our second favorite place for breakfast in New Plymouth. The coffee comes out fast, and is very nice. The food, in general, is great. We've been here a number of times, and had very good experiences. Not to mention the service, which has always been proper and polite. One note...I ordered a reuben on my last trip there. Being in NZ, this was, admissibly a dumb choice. The egg dishes, and salads, are amazing here. The reuben was, clearly, not a specialty. Lesson learned. But if you stick to their main line good dishes, you will NOT be disappointed!!

What is it about names in the 'Naki? On the same day I breakfasted at (should that be in, or midst?) Chaos, I gymed at Rampage, and dined at Arranged Marriage; only here where the wind was sufficiently strong to ground my flight out and according to the animated display at the museum, the mountain could re-erupt any moment (or alternatively subside into the abyss), can one Rampage through Chaos (is there any other way?) to Arranged Marriage all in one day. But back to breakfast, bracing coffee, and scrumptious well prepared fare with in-house artistry and hospitable staff. Take your copy of Paradise Lost or your chaos theoretician of choice and enjoy the entropy.

The food was ok, coffee wasn't good at all, I've asked for a latte which arrived not hot with very high milk froth just like a cappuccino. The cue for ordering at the counter was about 10 minutes and service was very long, more than 30 minutes wait.

Lively place for coffee and healthy veggie choices which look DELICIOUS! We were only sorry we had already eaten our breakfast.

Just had breakfast and ordered the eggs bene with Salmon. Would be one of the best I've had and good portion serving. It was reasonably busy but service was quick and polite. Would recommend for locals or anyone just staying for the weekend.
